A Royal Priesthood

1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."
Most times, when we think of the word "priesthood", the last thing that comes to mind is ourselves. However, the Word of God teaches us that as followers of Christ, that's exactly what we are.
But what makes us "a royal priesthood" and why are we all considered a priest?
