She got down from her camel 65 and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?” “He is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself. 66 Then the servant told Isaac all he had done. 67 Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

It’s sad to  say but where there's a wedding there is sometimes a conflict between members of the two families, and it look like there  might be something going on here. Abraham’s servant wants to go right away, and take Rebecca with him back with him, but they wanted him to stay for at least 10 days . Rebecca really is  an amazing woman, she's willing to leave everything she's ever known because she's convinced the Lord is in this situation. The text tells us that Rebecca and her maids arise and mount on the camels and followed the man and they depart. So, they all head off to go meet Isaac.

The climax of the passage is approaching, and we are told that Isaac was sitting under a tree meditating in the field in the evening very interesting. I think the Bible puts a premium on meditating only the meditation is not like eastern meditation where you clear your mind is the exact opposite. Meditation in the Bible is you filled your mind by thinking about scripture. Rebecca sees him and she dismounts from her camel…. And they meet Isaac then he brings her into his mother Sarah’s tent. Now remember at this point Sarah has been passed away about three years. So, taking her to his mother’s tent is significant because this means he is immediately taking her as his wife. Now we to pause for a moment because this means they got married sight unseen so to speak. They got married if I had time and I don't have love to talk about what constitutes marriage from a Biblical point of view. 

The book of Malachi talks about marriage being a covenant between two people. What is significant about all that is that there's a covenant involved here. What constitute marriage is a legal relationship, but what constitutes that legality varies from culture to culture. In our culture you go to the church, or the council registry office and you get a marriage certificate. You may have a ceremony and you say, I do, but this is also a legal contract and thereafter follows all kinds of legal ramifications. However, they got married straight away, he married her, then he loved her. The Bible says husbands love your wives, I doesn’t mention about finding a woman you love and then marrying her, I’ll just let that sink in for a minute. I'm not opposed to the idea of love before marriage that's a good thing there's nothing wrong with that, however that is not seen as a requirement in the Bible. What sometimes occurs in the Bible is you get married and very often in the scripture the parents picked out the bride or the groom, and then your responsibility is to love the person you marry. Marriage today is wholly based on our feeling that we are in love with the person we are going to marry. But let me just tell you feelings can change and married people can fallout of love, so we also need to learn to love. Love is a choice, not just a feeling. Here Isaac married her, and then he loved her .

This passage closes with a very interesting comment saying he was comforted after his mother death by her. Sarah’s been dead for three years and Rebecca comforted him and provided companionship for him in the years that follow. You need to get all those elements in order to really understand what's going on here and to understand what the Biblical idea of marriage is all about. Companionship, partnership, compassion, caring and to willing choose to love the other person.
