I would like to conclude our time together in Chapter 24 by trying to spell out the main points of what I believe this chapter of Genesis wants us to grasp hold of.,

Number one Abraham believed the Lord and the whole the reason this story is in the book of Genesis to begin with is to demonstrate that. God promised Abraham the land through his descendants and that means that in order for that to happen Isaac has to have a bride. Abraham, believing that God is going to provide that bride, so he sends a trusted servant to find a bride for his son. One of the things you need to see in this passage is the faith of these people who are all trusting the Lord.

The second thing you need to see is that God was faithful to fulfil the promise he made with Abraham and give him the promised multiple descendants, like the stars of the heaven and as a sand on the seashore. That means his one and only son has to have a bride, so God is going to be faithful to that promise and provide that bride.

That leads me to the third and final point and that is simply the way he did is through natural means; there was no supernatural miracle involved here just a group of individual people who were obedient to the call of God in their lives. Rebecca didn't parachute out of the sky he did it by having Abraham’s servant meet her at well. God sometimes works supernaturally, but God often works through natural means. And I believe that happens more frequently than a lot of people realize. I also believe, when we are trusting and praying and believing that when God is most likely to fulfil his promises.

I’m tempted to say if you're not married, then this is all you need to do to find a partner. That would be as direct an application of this passage I have ever suggested. You can just pray and say, “Lord I need the right mate, I’ve got a few ideas, and this is what I'm praying for” and then let God providentially bring you to the right person. I don't know how many times in my life believers have come to me and said, wow you wouldn’t believe what happened to me this week.

God really answered my prayer. There is no such thing as an accident in the plans of God. This is what I want you to put in your pocket and keep with you as we exit this chapter. It is simply this God works through normal means when we trust in Him. When we are praying or we are trusting in Him, he will work it through often in the most natural of ways.

I listened to two Christian radio stations one after the other the other day. I heard two things within minutes of each other that really struck me as interesting. Firstly, was the testimony of someone who said God had called them to leave the UK and travel to Africa and to pray for miraculous healing of people. He believed he had been particularly called to go there and lay his hands on the blind and to pray that they might see. Then shortly after the was an article about the mercy ships who fill a ship with medical supplies, and Christian Doctors and Nurses travel around the world calling into ports of developing countries and in partnership with local churches bring people to the ship. One of the ministries means that in a single day they can perform 300 cataract operations enabling the blind to see.

So, here's the message, in all things pray and believe the Lord. The God will providentially bring people into your life, and you will be able to see his will performed in your lives. However, don’t be so focused on looking for the supernatural to miss the miraculous that God is doing in the natural, every day.
