Throughout the whole Bible, both Old and New Testament the Bible teaches that God creates instantaneously with the power of his spoken Word (Logos). The universe with is stars and its planets where declared to be and placed in their orbits immediately according to the text. But we will also see in a minute that God will create humanity in the same way. Adam will be created with “apparent age”. God did not create the 1st human being as a baby, he didn’t create a boy, he created a fully grown mature adult man. When Adam appears on the scene by any reasonable measure, we can assume he looked like a grown adult. The same thing is true of the garden of Eden When he created the garden, it was done in a moment. If you or I needed to grow a garden the scientific fact would be that we would have to grow it from scratch over many years. We would have to plant, and water it, to fertilize it and to wait. We would have to wait a long period of time for the garden to gradually appear, but that is not the way God did it. God will also create the Garden of Eden instantaneously with “apparent age”.
But the best illustration of all is the fact that Christ himself miraculously created instantaneously. Jesus at the wedding of Cana turned water into wine instantaneously. Normally the process of wine making needs fermentation, yet Jesus took a jar of water and turned it into wine in an instant. The wine he created, was created instantaneously “matured ready to drink as wine, not grape juice”. When God creates, he doesn’t have to take long ages of time to put things in motion. The bible tells us that God always creates with instantaneously with apparent age.
Repeatedly the bible tells us the means of His creation is the spoken word of God. Genesis and the Psalms both say the repeated us of the phrase By the word of the Lord, illustrate this. (Ps 33, 36, and 39). God does not need long periods of time he simple speaks and it come to pass. Direct creation. ex nihilo, out of nothing, with apparent age.
Recent development in science are amazing and they tells us everything about the world that we can observe at this point, from this point. Only 100 years ago science thought there was just one Galaxy which we called the milky way. Then a scientist named Edmund Hubble built a telescope and put it in the Californian mountains and in 1919 he gazed heavenward and noticed distant objects were moving and they weren’t single stars they were other galaxies and he noticed that the universe went way beyond our galaxy. Suddenly humanity view of the size of the universe increased experientially. He and every scientist and physicist have been saying ever since, In fact, as recently as 2017 Professor Brian Cox in a published that year says the size of the known universe has been revised it is now though to be at least 10 time larger than we thought even just 5 years previously. So, the universe is expanding and accelerating, not only in size but in our understanding of its scope and size. I believe we can trust science with confidence in so far as it shows us what we can understand at this point, up to this point, from this point. But true science accepts that the theory will be revised upon, expanded and accelerated.
All this is well and good but how do we apply this in our lives because without a spiritual application all of this stuff become meaningless. And that what I would we shall consider in the next chapter.
