Today I'm going to do something different. I had 18 podcast minutes left in my allotted time for the month, and I felt led to focus on the subject of the Ulvade Mass Shooting incident.
The victims of this shooting are vast and hurting. They aren't only the ones murdered that day--two teachers, and nineteen children--but the families that have been left behind, who are grieving and angry. They're demanding answers, and, yes, justice and accountability.
QUESTIONS THAT HAVE YET TO BE ANSWERED
I explore some of those questions that have been asked, but have yet to be answered to any satisfaction.
Why was the standard protocol for dealing with an active shooter not followed?
This protocol has been in place since the Columbine shooting in 1999. The Chief of Police, who was in command, had gone through two rounds of active shooter training, where he was trained to engage the shooter, until he was either dead or taken into custody.
Did he have a compelling enough reason not to follow the standard protocol? If so, what is his full explanation?
Why did the police delay for so long to breach the door and engage the shooter?
Why was there an unlocked door for the shooter to enter the building? A door that's supposed to automatically lock when shut didn't lock that day. Why not?
And why has the police chief stopped cooperating with the investigation?
By all accounts, this incident would cause any thinking person to wonder what was going on with the police chief and the police.
This is a very difficult question to ask:
Why did they make it easy for the gunman to kill as many people as possible?
THEOLOGY OF CONFRONTING AND EXPOSING THE DEEDS OF DARKNESS
Before I go into those things, I give a brief theology about what it means to expose darkness, and why believers need to do it. We're here to be salt and light. Salt wars against corruption and decay and light exposes darkness. We're also people who are to cry out night and day to God for justice.
In other words, we don't turn "a blind eye," but we actively seek justice for those who have been victimized, especially the widow and the orphan.
I also speak about what it means to be a spiritual person who discerns the events of the day from a spiritual perspective, instead of an earthly one. In the midst of false narratives, contradicting narratives, propaganda, and cover-ups, we need to be able to see from a different perspective and a different source, in addition to our five senses.
