Revelation 22: How the Glorified Christ "in the midst" of our Churches is More Powerful than any Caesar! (1:13-15)

Theophilus

Today we'll talk about the phrase "the son of man" and what it means to have the glorified, resurrected Jesus "in the midst" of our churches.   What are the implications?   How can this bring encouragement both to us as individuals and to our churches as a whole?

We'll also talk about a possible reason why Jesus gave John the glorious revelation of His divine Personhood.  We consider the historical and spiritual contexts of John's day, and how that parallels the issues we face in our day.   For instance, as there were "Caesars" in John's day, there are "Caesars" in our day.

How does seeing the revelation of the divine Personhood of Jesus Christ strengthen our faith and help us to overcome our fears?

Before I go into our study, I talk about the need for a spiritual regimen (or scheduled spiritual disciplines) in the face of devious, ever-changing enemy attacks.  I also talk about the various ways the enemy seeks to steal our precious time away from what's most important.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1.  What are some of the ways the enemy has stolen away your time in lesser pursuits?  How does the enemy hook you in those pursuits?   What can you do to "redeem the time" in those particular areas?  Remember:  the greatest enemy of the best can be the good.

2.  Do you practice any spiritual disciplines?  Do you have a schedule for them or do you do them when you find the time?   If the latter, how can putting those spiritual disciplines in your schedule not only ensure that you'll do them, but improve your spiritual life?

3.  Do you believe Jesus is in the midst of your fellowship with other Christians?  In the midst of your church?  How would having this conscious awareness of His presence change the way you interact with other believers?  How can you encourage fellow believers or your church with this revelation?

4.  Who or what are the "Caesars" of our day?  They could be social media corporations, globalist entities, powerful people, politicians, etc.  Do they see themselves as "gods" in what they attempt to do and say?   In the power and control they try to exert over mankind?

5.  Do you agree with the statement that a greater fear can drive out a lesser fear?  Why or why not?  How will you make God more your "fear" and your "dread," so he can then become a sanctuary?
