Reason 3, Part 4 Why Christians Need to Care about the Jews: The Church is One New Man from the Union of Jew and Gentile

SPECIAL NOTE:  Next week's episode will come out on Saturday as normally scheduled.

We look deeper into what it means for the Gentiles to be grafted into the root system of Israel and the Jews.   What implications does this have for the Church at large?  Where and when did this grafting in process take place?  The answers to these questions will be explored through the course of this episode.

We also look at how the story of Ruth is a "type and shadow" of this grafting in process whereby a Gentile joins the community of Israel.

Our study shows how God the Holy Spirit was the One Author overseeing the writing of the whole Bible.

SCRIPTURES STUDIED:

Story of Ruth
Ruth 1, especially verses 14-18
Genesis 2: 21-23
John 20:17
Acts 2
Romans 7:1-4, especially verse 4
Isaiah 11:1-3
Ephesians 2:14-16

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

1.  Why does it make a difference to understand that the world's population came from one race (with a variety of ethnic/people groups) versus many races?

Note:  In the past, the word "race" was often used as a synonym for ethnic or people group.  Now with the heightened focus on race, it'd benefit us to be more accurate about how we speak about this subject.

How can we present this truth more accurately to other people?  In order to unite rather than to further divide?

2.   How does God doing divine surgery on Adam to create Eve compare with Jesus dying on the cross to give birth to the Church?

Just like Adam longed for the lost part of Himself when he encountered Eve, Jesus longs for the Spirit He caused to dwell in us.  (Read James 4)

3.  Why is it important to understand that God simultaneously created the Church, while He grafted the Gentiles into the Jewish root system to make one new plant/man?

What kind of Church was God looking to create?  Why does this matter?  Is a unified Jew and Gentile Church the way most Christians view the Church as a whole?

How can we encourage this process of unification, building a bridge between Jews and Christians?
