Well, hey there, my friend. Welcome to Five Minute Mentoring. I have to admit, I'm a huge, huge coffee fan. And when I was sitting down this summer to write my book, Prophetic Art, which is a practical guide to creating with the Holy Spirit, the Lord actually started giving me this picture one morning as I was sitting in my chair about what I called in the book, prophetic percolation. So I'm going to talk about today how the creative process and the percolation process of coffee are so much alike and how you can get some really great keys about that today here on Five Minute Mentoring. Have you ever wanted to have someone in your life who you could ask real questions about your art, your business, and even your walk with the Lord? Well, that's exactly what we do every Friday here on Five Minute Mentoring, where I answer one question from one of my awesome podcast listeners in order to help you start really thriving as the artist you know God created you to be. Why, my friends, so glad that you are with me today. Listen, like I said, I love me some coffee every morning. You're going to find me in my comfy chair with my journal and with my cup of either. I like two kinds of coffee. I either like the dark roast Kauai coffee, which is Hawaiian coffee. I love it. Or the dark roast General Dickinson's Pete's coffee, which is from Washington. I love both of those. And by the way, if you're looking to send me a present, I'll take both of those. But they're like my favorite i love them but you know it's funny as i was sitting there this summer thinking about you know writing the book prophetic art and just talking about that process with the lord and just really wanting a beautiful kind of example to share with you guys uh prophetic percolation sort of started percolating in me and the lord started showing me just this beautiful process of how coffee actually happens and how it's very much like our own creative process you know when you think about coffee coffee doesn't just start in the cup right coffee starts way way way beyond you know before that with a coffee harvester actually harvesting the beans and actually going out into the fields and getting those beans and and then not just getting the beans but actually taking those beans and doing what roasting those and letting all you know that roasting and that drying that oil starts to come out of the bean and then guess what it gets crushed and it gets pulverized after it's been roasted and that sort of thing and I'm like that feels just like the creative process sometimes you know sometimes we just think gosh all these things that I'm collecting all these ideas all these inspirations all these things that are bubbling up inside of me All the time, all the things that I'm putting in my journal, do they ever mean anything? Will they ever come to fruition? And the Lord just started reminding me, man, these are just like the coffee beans. You're just collecting these. And then in the fire of my presence, guess what? As I began to go through the process, of the creative process of pulverizing and roasting and testing these ideas and pushing some and they don't go far enough or really breaking them down. And I start to see, oh, there's the essence. It's just like the coffee process. It's not until you dry it and you let it rest a little bit and you roast it and then you start to grind it. That's where the magic begins to happen. But it's not only that. See, it's not only that, because coffee doesn't happen until what? Water comes into process and heat. See, when you think about, and I know some of you are saying, Matt, there's cold pressed coffee. Follow the metaphor, okay? Water, cold or hot, all right? Cold or hot. I'm thinking hot because I like hot coffee. But think about this. It's not until the water comes and the heat comes into that coffee and extracts that oil and all the flavor and everything that coffee actually happens. And I think about that with my own creative process. I can have the best ideas. I can have all the inspiration in the world. I can be working on tons and tons and tons of things. But listen, it is not until coffee. The inspiration and the life of the Holy Spirit begins to come over everything that I have pulverized and crushed and collected and fiddled with in the studio. It's not until that happens that beauty really is manifested, that transformation actually happens. See, my friend, coffee is not just made of the bean that you collected. A lot of people think, well, gosh, I got inspired. That's art. No, that's just a one piece of the process. You got to take that idea and you got to roast it. You got to work it. You got to fiddle with it. You got to let it rest. You got to come back to it. And then you got to let the heat and the fire of the Holy Spirit and the water of the Holy Spirit begin to come and infuse, literally infuse your ideas. And guess what? Every time, every time what happens is coffee. And when you allow the Holy Spirit to run through and to infuse all of the ideas, all the work that you do, something supernatural, something transformative happens. And it's called art. Art is healing. Art is powerful. Art is transformative, not just because we're talented, but because we offer that talent. We offer those ideas. We offer that inspiration to the Lord and we invite him to come and to move through our process. You know, the other thing that I think is really cool about coffee is that at the end of a great cup of coffee is always a bunch of leftover coffee grounds. Somebody said to me one You know, Matt, art is not about what you can add, but it's about what you can take away. And I think about my own art process and walking with the Lord. There's always going to be things that you thought maybe were going to be in the process of your art, but are left over that are not the things that are going to be actually included in the final piece or in the final expression. And that's totally okay. It's part of the process. Part of being a great artist is learning what? to leave. behind and learning what to include. Some things were there just for the process and that's okay. Well, listen, I could talk forever about this, about coffee, about creativity, about Jesus, but this is supposed to be five minute mentoring and I've already gone over. So listen, I love you. I'm glad you're here. Wherever you are on the podcast, on YouTube, on Facebook, on Instagram, super glad that you're with me. Remember, you were created to thrive and Jesus loves you. He's got a plan for your life. And I'm just so honored that you would allow us to walk with you, to allow me to walk with you every week. And I encourage you in the thing that God's called you to. All right, my friend, I love you very much.
