What would change if you stopped playing it safe and said a full, unapologetic yes to your creative calling? We unpack the five shifts that begin the moment you surrender the hustle and create from identity: peace replaces pressure, favor opens doors, your art becomes an encounter, provision flows with integrity, and fresh ideas arrive on demand. Along the way, we share stories from the studio, practical steps to steward your gift, and scriptures that ground the journey without turning creativity into performance.

We talk candidly about moving from striving to sonship—the difference between creating for approval and creating from love. You’ll hear how opportunities start aligning when you stop tweaking the algorithm and start honoring your gift, why collectors and collaborators respond to clarity, and how your work can carry presence without turning preachy. We dig into pricing with dignity, shedding guilt about profit, and building simple systems that support flow: daily rhythms, capture habits, and creative rest that multiplies output instead of draining it.

There’s also a vital warning: pushback often shows up right when momentum builds. We name the common forms—doubt, distractions, tech glitches—and share tools to keep going. Then we point to the secret multiplier: community. When artists run with artists who share faith, craft, and courage, resilience rises and isolation loses its grip. If you’re ready to trade anxiety for alignment and let your studio become a place of peace, favor, and transformation, this conversation is your map.

If this spoke to you, subscribe, share it with an artist friend, and leave a review to help others find the show. Ready to lay a solid foundation? Check out the foundations course and join a global community of artists on the same journey.

The Power Of A Bold Yes

SPEAKER_00

Hey, what would actually happen if you stopped holding back as an artist and fully surrendered to the creative life you know God's got for you as an artist in his kingdom? I mean, really going all in, not just playing it safe and in the corner and kind of hiding your creativity, but giving God a big old yes and stepping boldly into the life that you've only dreamed about as an artist. Unfortunately, a lot of artists never do that. They find it easier to stay on the fence and just kind of play it safe. But in today's video, I'm going to show you the five specific outcomes that will absolutely start to happen in your life once you give God that big old yes. I'm also going to share with you one critical warning that you need to hear so you don't get blindsided if it happens to you. So be sure to stay to the end. Well, hey friend, I'm Matt Tommy. Super glad that you're here on the channel where every week I'm creating encouraging content for artists just like you who are looking for clarity and confidence and that creative freedom that they know is theirs in Christ. Listen, I am so passionate today about this idea of saying yes to God as an artist because God's not looking for your perfection. And when you get that, man, it changes everything. See, He's looking for your yes because your yes brings him into agreement. You you into agreement with each other, and your yes ends up opening the door for everything that God has for you as an artist in his kingdom. And so once you do, everything in your life as an artist begins to change. One of the first things that begins to happen in your life is that peace and joy and fulfillment start returning to your life, to your creativity and to your studio. And you know why? Well, it's because the pressure is off. You're not having to do all this stuff on your own. You're not operating as an orphan by yourself that's, you know, striving and perfectionism, performing and hustling to make it happen and all that. No, you shift into sonship. You start realizing, hey, I'm a beloved daughter and son of the king. You start realizing that verse in Colossians 3:15 that says, Hey, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. That becomes the atmosphere you're creating from being loved by him, not for his love or for approval. And you're you're no longer worried so much about the critics or being paralyzed by perfection. You can actually start enjoying your creative process with your father again and having fun. And listen, there's nothing like being able to walk into the studio every day full of joy and full of passion and full of life and peace again. Now, the second thing I see happen for artists all the time once they give their yes to the Lord is that doors of opportunity that they never thought they could open by themselves all of a sudden start to open. They're not having to manipulate it, they're not having to, you know, tweak the algorithm, they're not trying to make things happen. All of a sudden, their yes opens those doors and they start entering into what many people talk about as the favor of God. In fact, I love it in Proverbs 18. It talks about, you know, a man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men. Not your striving, but your God-given gift makes room when you give God yes. Listen, that was my life for many, many years trying to make it happen on my own. But when I started saying yes to the Lord, it was like double doors of favor begin to open in my life. And a collector started coming, connections started happening, sales begin to happen. It's like it says in Revelation 3 that I've set before you an open door, which nobody is able to shut. See, when God opens a door, no critic, no crazy economy, no bad feeling, nothing can shut it. You just got to be ready to walk through it. Now, the third thing that happens when you start saying yes to the Lord is that your art itself actually gets transformed. See, the core of kingdom creativity is that others start to experience genuine transformation through your work. In other words, art stops being this little side, you know, hobby, little fun thing, just decoration and just content. It actually becomes a conduit for the Holy Spirit. Listen, I got so many testimonies over the years, you've probably heard them, of people being healed and delivered and set free and comforted and encountering God's presence. Even in the Bible, we see when David played his heart, distressing spirits left Saul and released the presence of God. Even Bezalel, it says in Exodus 31, was filled by the Spirit of God to create work that became a point of intersection and contact and interaction with the presence of the Lord. So, you know, you just may think, well, I'm just painting a landscape, I'm just painting a pretty picture, but God starts to use your work as an opportunity, an intersection point to minister to people. And that is powerful. Now, the fourth thing that I see happen in the lives of artists who give God that big old yes is so many times God begins to pour out financial blessing and provision in their life. You know why? Because they're getting positioned for them to be blessed by what God designed them to do. See, if you start treating your art with dignity and you stop feeling guilty and stop feeling shame about prospering from your gift, all of a sudden you're positioned to receive the blessing of God in your life. See, God knows that you have bills to pay. He knows that you need art supplies, he knows that you need time to create and do what you do as an artist. And see, when you steward well that which God has entrusted you, he brings more resources your way. See, there's a pattern that I see over and over that artists who give God their yes are able to move from a poverty mindset to really creating wealth that's not only a blessing to them, but also funds the kingdom and is a blessing to others. See, when you value what God gives you, the market values it as well. Now, the fifth thing that I see is so exciting for artists because fresh creative ideas begin to flow. There's this supernatural flow of creative ideas. And so if you've ever felt stuck kind of staring at a blank canvas and feeling on your own, like, what am I gonna do? In alignment with the creator, you never run out of ideas because you're tapping into this infinite source of creativity. It's kind of like upgrading from dial-up to fiber optic, right? You stop worrying about your limited imagination and you connect with him to receive unlimited downloads of creativity from him, of ideas and dreams and visions and and impulses. You enter this flow where heaven is working with you, where God is moving by his spirit through the brush that you're having. That's an incredible place to be as an artist. Now, I promised a final warning, and and this is it. You know, anytime that you say yes to the Lord and yes to your calling as an artist, you can expect there's going to be some pushback from the enemy. You know, when you raise your hand and say yes, it's kind of like shooting a flare up in the sky, and the enemy goes, Hey, uh, what's going on? You know, we need to bump up the resistance because you're starting to take authority and step into what God's got for you. See, the enemy hates that. I mean, he was fine when you were a paralyzed artist, when you were just kind of a hobbyist playing it safe. But when you start to move into your calling, that's a threat to the darkness. And so forms of pushback often look like sudden doubt or tech issues or distraction or second-guessing yourself. But you got to remember what the Bible says greater is he that is in you than he that's in the world. See, pushback isn't a sign to stop, it's actually confirmation that you're going in the right direction. Listen, the only way to thrive as an artist in the kingdom is to be connected to other artists that are on that same journey. They can encourage you and you can encourage them at the same time. Listen, learning to encourage yourself in the Lord and connect with other artists, it's easier said than done sometimes. That's exactly why we do all that we do here at Matt Tommy Mentoring and creating opportunities for artists to not only learn to encourage themselves in the Lord, build a strong foundation of faith and in business, but also connect with other artists all around the world who are on that same journey. My friend, I want to encourage you, check out the foundations course. The same thing he's done in my life, the same thing I've seen him do in the lives of thousands of artists, he wants to do in your life as well. And all it takes is your yes.
