On today's episode, we break down Colombia's big win vs Uzbekistan. Portugal draw vs DR Congo, England vs Croatia was an amazing game, and Ghana get a late winner vs Panama. Tune in!
All right, everyone. Welcome back. Another episode here of the Friendly Foes, a World Cup special. We just finished watching the Colombia versus Uzbekistan game. What a what a game. What we suffered till the very end. Colombia ends up winning three to one. It was a lot closer than I think anybody would have ever expected, but a win nonetheless for Colombia and their debut in this 2026 World Cup, going up ahead in group K as number one. Man, they know how to make a suffer. That is for sure. But a win's a win, baby. Colombia tu papa. Siempre. I'll take I'll take these wins all day. I'll take these W's all day.
SPEAKER_01All day. I'm not complaining. I mean, listen. It was a a suffered win. But that first half was beautiful, man. I love that first half. That first half wasn't that. We were playing exquisite. Exquisite.
SPEAKER_05What was I gonna say? The Uzbekistan team, they were just playing the lowest of low blocks ever. They couldn't string more than three passes together, specifically in that first half. I would say probably in the first 70 minutes. They didn't know how to play out of the back. They were giving us the ball every single time we gave if they they would get the ball out of the back, they would give it straight back to us. But they played defensively pretty well, specifically in the first half, and they made it really difficult for us. I mean, I think we only had a lot of.
SPEAKER_01I mean, they had coaches, one of the greatest defenders of all time.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say, I mean, they had Canavato as the coach. Yeah. Curious to hear how they communicate, but he definitely tells them And their star player is a defender, too. Is a center back, yeah. Their best player is a center back. What are the odds?
SPEAKER_01But uh which he's a dirty little rascal, too. He is, man. He's a dirty little rascal. He almost got a Lucho. If you would have injured him, bro, all of Columbia would have came down.
SPEAKER_05Well, he got the freaking cameraman. Did you see that? Yeah, he got the man.
SPEAKER_00I hope that cameraman is okay.
SPEAKER_05I hope that cameraman is okay.
SPEAKER_00We never got a big thing. I saw him just on the floor still while they were taking the free kick.
SPEAKER_01He might have got a concussion. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05No, I think he I think he might have broken a bone or something. I don't think it was a concussion. They were checking out his legs. It looked, it looked a little rough, but I hope he's okay. Shout out to that camera, man.
SPEAKER_01Kusinov's.
SPEAKER_05I never I never saw that angle again, I'll tell you that much. No.
SPEAKER_00That was a pretty cool angle, though. That was a cool angle. That was really cool. I mean, we got a real shot. As soon as I saw Kusinov going on, I'm like, oh, damn, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_05I mean, I saw the camera started.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05That was too. But man, uh, so we get a big win, first win of this tournament, three-one, especially after Portugal and the Democratic Republic of Congo tied earlier today, and we'll get to that game a little bit later. But we talked about it, we suffered this win. But what were your thoughts? How did you think Colombia played throughout the game?
SPEAKER_01I thought we played great, man. I really liked the addition of Gustavo Puerta into the lineup. I really liked that addition. It really kept the flow of the game. You know? I haven't seen Colombia play that good in about two years since the Copa América. We played really good that first half. And I think a lot of it had to do with Gustavo Puerta being in the starting 11. And I also think Jonah Arias in the middle of the pitch. Makes a big difference, yeah. It does make a big difference, man. He he makes things flow very well. And that's because Gustavo Puerto was there making it happen too. And between him and Hamas, they kind of they were switching out on the right hand side, and then Daniel Munoz was almost playing like he played in Crystal Palace. He was almost playing like a right wing back instead of a fullback. So that was all because Puerto was there. That was a whole change of scheme right there, and that's all thanks to our our profe Néstor Lorenzo. He read the the team perfectly. He knew what we needed, and that's all thanks to Nestor. Thank you for that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, man. I mean, prior to a couple of months ago, Gustavo Puerta wasn't even in the radar for the Colombian national team. He plays in the second division in Spain over in Dracing Santander. They just got promoted this season, so he'll be playing in the first division in La Liga. He's 22 years old, and he benched one of the best players in Colombia at the moment who plays for Benfica, plays Champions League football as a starter for Benfica, one of the greatest clubs in the world, playing under Josie Mourinho. And he benched him. Richard Rios was not playing well. He didn't play well against Jordan. He didn't play well against Costa Rica. And Néstor Lodes was like, we we gotta put Gustavo Puerta on. And that's when the match was a good thing. No, he did not. He did not. So and uh what I mean, what a performance by Gustavo Puerta. He had let's look at it here. He had one assist. I'm curious to see how many freaking uh steals he had because I feel like he had a lot of four recoveries, four recoveries and one interception.
SPEAKER_01Well, that second goal was a recovery and an assist.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that that second goal was all him. All him, a hundred percent. He was everywhere on the field. I loved watching him play. I was uh a a little skeptical at first to see him in the starting lineup, but me too. What a pistol. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01Nestor knows what he's doing.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01This is all profe. He read the team perfectly well. He knew what we needed, and Gustavo Puerto was the answer to keep things flowing. And you saw, like I said, Jon Aries was able to go into the middle of the pitch. James was kind of flowing around too. So I yeah, that that that that's all because Gustavo Puerto was added onto the starting line. Exactly.
SPEAKER_05So exactly, yeah. I think he played a phenomenal game. Uh Lucho Diaz, what a debut for his first ever World Cup game. Gets a goal and an assist. What a way to make and hit the crossbar too. Hit the crossbar as well. But what a way to make an entrance into the World Cup in the world's biggest stage by having a goal and an assist in that way. And that assist that he gave to Daniel Muñoz, I mean, that was phenomenal. That was Hamas-esque. The way he broke the lines, because again, Uzbekistan was playing such a low block. The way he broke that line perfectly, that run by Daniel Muñoz, I mean, it was all brilliant.
SPEAKER_01The finish was excellent too.
SPEAKER_05Ooh, phenomenal. And Dani Muñoz, another player who makes a World Cup debut. And I mean, his story is one of the greatest stories ever, I think. You talk about perseverance, personified, it's Dani Muñoz. This guy was coming up like a huge Atlético Nacional fan. He was part of their Barra Brava, their supporters group, wanted to become professional. He didn't make it pro until the age of 20. He didn't sign his first professional contract until then, which is pretty late to sign a professional contract at that point. I think at the age of 18 or 19, he almost gave up at one point. He was denied by multiple clubs because he was too small, he was too skinny. And now look at him, he's playing in the Premier League, playing for Crystal Palace, won the FA Cup, won the Community Shield, won the Conference League, was in the Copa Medica squad two years ago, and now he's playing in the World Cup and scores in his World Cup debut. I mean, you you have to stand up and applaud to this guy. What a beauty of a player.
SPEAKER_01And a lot of people were doubting him too. A lot of people were starting to say that Santi Arias should be the starter. Which I never agreed with. I I love Daniel Muñoz. I just think he needs to work a little bit more on his discipline. If he was more disciplined, I think he would be up there as one of the best right backs in the world. I think so for sure. But today he showed that. I mean, the way he plays with Crystal Palace, Néstor Lorenzo, that's the best way to get the best out of Daniel Muñoz as a wing back. Yeah. Yeah. That's what he's doing.
SPEAKER_05And I think that's that that's what he tries to give him with that formation, right? Because it's the the the formation on paper is like a 4-3-3, but really Hamas is not playing out on that wing. He cuts inside, he's playing more of that number 10 role, would give space to Dani Muñoz to make those runs. The big thing, though, is being able to track back sometimes, and we saw it in that goal that we got scored on. We lost the ball in the middle of the field. They they put the ball through. Danny Munoz was not really there. We got kind of lost in that particular moment. That goal was pretty silly. It shouldn't have happened. Oh my God. That was such a silly.
SPEAKER_01That was so dumb. We really got caught off guard there, but completely la lack of discipline. That was lack of discipline.
SPEAKER_05Complete lack of discipline, complete lack of mental focus. Yeah. That's all it is. That's all it takes. But um overall, I thought Columbia had a great performance. I do think that after this, like the 75th or 80th minute, we let the foot off the gas. After we took James out and we took Gustavo Puerto out, we lost control of the midfield completely. Completely, and that's when we started to lose the game. And one thing that I noticed as well is that every time that we played the ball out of the back in those last 15, 20 minutes or so, whether it was Camilo Waragas, Davison Sanchez, or John Lukumi, we gave the ball away every single time. Every single time we played it out, uh, I mean, cleared it out of the back, it got to a Uzbekistan player probably nine times out of ten.
SPEAKER_01It was really, really frustrating. Yeah, no, the yeah, yes. It was it was frustrating. The last 10-15 minutes, I was just asking for the time. I was like, when is this ref gonna blow the whistle?
SPEAKER_05And this, they it looked like their their their second call was was nearer than our third, and then we've been asking for this guy since like last year. Cucho Hernández comes on in the 80th minute for Luis Suarez, and boy, did he make a standout performance. Did he make his name heard in this in this game? Because he comes on, and in the last minute of the game, I mean, that play he did was amazing, bro. He takes it to the corner, he gets fouled, the ref doesn't call a foul, he gets up right away. He gets up right away. He's like, You want to take this ball away from me? You better, you better come get it. And then he put it. That guy's a big guy, bro. He's small. Cooch is not big. Kucho's like probably my size. He's like 5'7, 5'8. I was gonna say it, but all right, you you you you took that away from me. Good. I didn't want to be the one to say he's not that big, but he bodied that guy right off the ball. He's like, You want to take this ball away from me? You better come get it. He knew this is his chance to shine in the World Cup. He hasn't gotten many minutes with the national team. He gets the last 10-15 minutes, and he's like, I'm gonna prove who I am. What a way to take advantage of it. What type of player I am, and what a ball he put in. I mean, it was perfect to Haminton Kampaz. And Hamiton Kampaz, if if Kucho's small, Hamito Kampaz is smaller. I think Hamiton Kampaz is like 5'2, 5'3, and he puts in a ball perfectly to his head and he scores it 3-1 at the last minute, right when he was back in stand was at their probably peak of the game. They were playing the best, and we scored 3-1, no better way to end the game than that. I was able to finally breathe. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I was like, oh literally, man. I was like, I it was two times closed. Yes, it was back. They had at least two chances in those 10 minutes that if they had some solid players, like if that was on Portugal or any other big team, we would have been screwed.
SPEAKER_05We that was I was gonna say, we were also giving up some really silly fouls near the box that had their players known how to put a good cross in, we would have been in a little bit of a lot of money. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00I almost felt like we did it on purpose because they knew they were gonna put in a good cross. But I never want to take that risk. I never want to see them take that risk.
SPEAKER_05That was crazy, man. I would have rather them not do that. I was yelling at them, I was like, why would you do that? That's a dumb foul. That's a dumb foul. What about that last shot that they had to hit the crossbar? That was about to be the goal of the World Cup. Bro, that was insane. That my heart started shaking after that. My whole team was.
SPEAKER_01Can you imagine if they would have tied it up, like if we didn't score that third goal, and that was the way they tied it up?
SPEAKER_05I was wait- I honestly, man, I was waiting for that to happen. I was waiting for the draw. I was waiting for the goal to come back. You were just waiting for some shit like that to happen. I was just waiting for it, man. Because we we the way we were playing those last 10-15 minutes, we just kept giving the ball away. Every single time. We weren't even trying to.
SPEAKER_00We just keep the ball. That's all it is. We didn't have to suffer like that. It's not like they were stupid. We were giving them a chance to stay in that game. Yeah. For no reason. That was was pissing me off. For no reason. There was no reason.
SPEAKER_05Like Camilo Waregas, every time he would get the ball to his feet, he would blast it up and boom, and you're a back of the same player would get it.
SPEAKER_01Dude, I gotta tell you something, man. Camilo Waregas does not make me feel safe whatsoever.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_01Whatsoever. Like anytime he's on a one-on-one with an attacker, I'm like, fuck. This is it. Yeah. Like, I I don't have any confidence in him, really. I I don't. That's the scariest thing that I would say as a as a fan, I'm feeling, is just that I feel like we don't have a solid goalkeeper. And I feel like anybody who just takes advantage of that, like if if they want to break like our low block or whatever, they can just take a shot from outside the box, and I don't think Camilo Vargas can save it. You know, like that that's that that is definitely our weakest link, and it scares the shit out of me. It really does. Yeah, it's not Camilo Vargas from two years ago. I mean, he was able to pass by with his skills in the Copa América two years ago, but I don't think it's gonna be enough in the World Cup, if I'm being honest with you. I really don't. I'm I'm fucking scared of shit to have him in goal. And then I look at the other two and I'm like, well, he really is the best one. I really don't see a better option. So it's like this is it.
SPEAKER_05This is it. This is it. There really is it. I don't know. We just have to hope and pray that he Like that goal, bro.
SPEAKER_00That goal that he let in. He could he could have done better there.
SPEAKER_05It was so weird how it like he saved it and then it bounced off the post. Like, how did that even happen? I don't understand what happened. It caught everybody off guard.
SPEAKER_01Yes, he could have got a hold of it for sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I think he could have got a hold of it. I didn't like that.
SPEAKER_01He just doesn't transmit much security to me.
SPEAKER_05No, not not security, and then he can't play with the ball at his feet. Like he just can't. Every time he kicks the ball, it's like to no man's land. It's like yeah, let me just kick it up there and whoever can get it, get it. There is no actual strategy to that, which is that was and we played with him a lot today. Yeah, that's the thing. He didn't even use his hands once. No, I was like, let's stop giving him the ball. Like, let's try to it's not like they're high pressing. Lerma was open 90% of the time. Like, let's give it to him, let's try to play out. But again, we took Puerta out, we took Hamas out, and we lost complete control of that midfield. But we'll see what happens in our get next game against Congo. Uh, I'm curious to see. I think it'll probably be that the same starting lineup. I was really wanting to see Quintero. I think this was a perfect game for Quintero, and they said in the Telemundo broadcast that in these tight spaces that they had in the in the defense, they were playing with like five or six at the back. Quintero is the one to find those those small slots and put a ball through to a player, to Luis Suárez.
SPEAKER_01He came in for Hamas, Campas, right?
SPEAKER_05Campaz, yeah. Which I mean, he ended up scoring, like not saying he didn't deserve to come on, but I was just curious to see why Quintero doesn't get on, doesn't get on. And with Nestor, he really doesn't get much minutes. I don't I don't know why.
SPEAKER_01I really have no idea, but I was like, well, it's either him or Hamas, and uh Hamas is his guy, and I think I don't know, maybe today he was looking for two up front with Kampas and Suáz, and then Suátez and or Kucho came in for Suátez later, so maybe he just wanted those two up front. I'm not really sure what he was doing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, but it and it ended up working out, right? Kucho assisted Haman and Kampas, Compas scored, so so all of that worked out, but man, it was pretty close to not working out.
SPEAKER_01I mean well, yeah, yeah. Quintetta will get his chances though. He will.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's too good not to.
SPEAKER_05He he is such a talented player, and I wanted to see more of him, but man, anyway, alas, we get a very big victory because, like we talked about earlier, Portugal and Congo tied, so they both dropped points. So we're in first place in group K right now, and we said it months ago, whenever the groups came out. We said Colombia was gonna finish first in this group. Some people laughed at us, some people said we were crazy, and here we are. We doubled down again. Colombia's gonna finish first in this group. I think so. Especially with the way that Portugal finished. It's not over yet, but it's not over yet. You're right. Uzbekistan gave us a bit of a run for our money, and they were a lot tougher of an opponent than I thought. But Congo was also a very tough opponent for Portugal, and Portugal only had one shot on goal the entire game.
SPEAKER_01Portugal was bad today. They have the best midfield in the world, and they had nothing going. Bruno Fernandez was completely absent from the game. All they had going for them was Joao Nevis's header, which that guy is like 5'5, small as hell, and always gets up in the air. That was lucky as hell.
SPEAKER_05That was like their own that was their only shot on goal, and it went in. Lucky as hell. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They've somehow found his head. Portugal has too many big stars to be playing the way they did today. Bernardo Silva, I don't know why he doesn't ever really play good for Portugal. Ever. I think he's not a right winger anymore, if I'm being honest with you.
SPEAKER_02No, he's more of a Yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Wingers usually after 30, they start dropping off. And I think he he's been playing very well with Man City as uh as a midfielder, playing in that deep role with with Guardiola. So which he's a new Real Madrid player now, by the way. Yeah, new Real Madrid player. We took it from you guys. We pulled that, we pulled that Rob. Yeah, I mean, I didn't even want to talk about this, but I don't really know. I'm not even that pumped. I'm not even that pumped. Really? Not that pumped. I mean, he's like 31 years old, two-year contract.
SPEAKER_05Like, I mean, I guess that's why I wasn't even that excited about him, to be honest. I was just making fun of Atletico Madrid last time, but I wasn't even that excited about him. I was like, if I mean if we get him on a free and we get him on this decent wages, I think he'll be a good role player. Like, he's not gonna be a starter, and I think that's the reason why he ended up going to Real Madrid is because we sat down with him and basically told him, You're not gonna be a starter, bro. Like, you're gonna have to earn your place.
SPEAKER_01I don't think he liked that. I think I think Madrid is just Madrid, bro. Madrid's got more aura than Barca. That's it.
SPEAKER_05I think you just got more money to give him for his wages. But whatever. It is what it is. Yeah, new Real Madrid player. It's funny, the two new Real Madrid players, Cucureja and Bernardo da Silva, dropped absolute stinkers of performances this week. Coincidence? I think not. I think not. But anyway, Cucureja did good.
SPEAKER_01What are you talking about? I like Cukureya. He he he did good against Congo. In Congo? He didn't play. I'm sorry, Cape Bur Kate Burnley. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_05It is it is 12 42 a.m. right now after after Colombia played. So, but anyway, uh yes, Portugal played awful. I mean, for the amount of players that they have on paper, they should be one of the best teams in this tournament, in this World Cup. But I just don't see them going that far. Like, obviously, they'll get out of the group. I don't see them coming in first. I just, I don't know. They're missing like that synergy within a team that's you see it with Argentina.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Argentina has that, man. They all play for Messi. It doesn't seem like in Portugal they do that for Ronaldo. Not saying that they're supposed to, but they don't look for him, bro. Like, that's your striker, and you don't look for him whatsoever. There's so many times I saw him wide open or trying to make runs, and they just looked the other way. It's like, nah, we're not going with this guy.
SPEAKER_05And it's very easy to like sit here and blame Ronaldo as well because he didn't have a good game, but nobody had a good game. Like, not a single Portuguese player had a good game. They were all trash. Every single one of them, every single last one of them was awful. So, and Congo gets, I think it was their first World Cup appearance. They get their first point ever, the first first goal ever in a World Cup. And it was against Portugal, who has won for many people one of the favorites to win this World Cup. I still think they'll go far, they'll probably get to a quarterfinals or so, but they won't go further than that. I don't know. Especially playing the way they did today. Obviously, this is all overreaction. We all overreact. It's the first game of the World Cup. It's all only the first part of the group stage. A lot can change, a lot can happen. In 2022, Argentina lost against Saudi Arabia, ended up becoming champions. Who knows, right? But there have been a lot of pretty big upsets so far. And this was one of them today. Uh for Portugal. So big upset. Big upset. Another big game, though. Another big game, though, today we had England versus Croatia. That was a very exciting game. England ended up winning four to two, two goals by Harry Kane, one by Marcus Rashford, and one by who's the other one that scored? Marcus Rashford scored, Bellingham scored. And Bellingham scored.
SPEAKER_01Harry Kane scored two.
SPEAKER_05Bellingham scored as well. And then Croatia netted two goals.
SPEAKER_04I forget the guys that scored.
SPEAKER_01MLS guy, Dallas, striker. Bintan Bintankur, something like that. Bintan Kur. Hold on. Hold on.
SPEAKER_05It's late, guys. He plays for Como. He was a ball. Peter Musa plays for Dallas, scored the second goal, and uh Martin Baturina, which by the way, Baturina. Yes, Golaso by Baturina. That was one of the goals of the best goals of the World Cup so far. I also really like Peter Musa's goal because of Perisic assists. I think what Petisic did in that assist, he could have easily headed that ball into the goal, but somehow he knew that Musa was behind him. He like twisted his neck to head it back to him. Yes. Finished. That was crazy. How old is Petisic? I feel like I've been watching him since I was three. He's 37. Insane. That was a great, that was a great little goal.
SPEAKER_04I like that.
SPEAKER_01That was a great little neck move that he did. Yeah. And that was one of the best games of the tournament so far. That was a good game. Bellingham played really good. Declined.
SPEAKER_05England looked amazing. England looked pretty solid. Harry Kane gets a brace. One off a pen, one off a header. Re had to retake the pen. Leave it coverage. Barely stepped off the line the first time to save it, and they had to retake it. You could tell that really broke his heart. So as soon as they were going to retake it, I was like, yeah, Harry Kane's going to score the second thing. He'll miss the biggest thing. He should have gone the same way, too. I know. I was thinking if he had if he's got balls, he'll go the same way. And Harry Kane went the same way. But man, either way, big game.
SPEAKER_01You know, I was surprised that Sokka didn't start. Madweca started over him.
SPEAKER_05I think uh I was reading about this, and apparently Tuchel's letting him uh rest a little bit because towards the end of the season he was dealing with a bit of an injury to his Achilles and he was playing injured. So Tuchel apparently wants to rest him the first couple of games. But yeah, that was surprising.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I thought so. I thought so because that I was like, Tuchel's not this stupid.
SPEAKER_05Right. Yeah. I mean, he made some pretty questionable decisions in his for the World Cup squad. But I mean No way he's leaving soccer. He's one of the best right wingers in the world. Yeah, I I thought the same thing. I was like, something he has to be injured, and I looked it up.
SPEAKER_01Same with uh I didn't look it up, but I saw that he didn't start. Rubén Diaz. He didn't start. I don't know what happened with him.
SPEAKER_05He's gotta have some sort of a knock. Ruben Diaz and uh Gonzalo Ignacio are typically the two starting center backs for Portugal, and they both did not start today, which was very interesting. I do I'm curious to see why not. I haven't looked into it either, but I was I was curious about that as well. But England get a big win in their uh in the World Cup day s debut here in 2026, 4-2 against Croatia. Yeah, and what a game against the big rival performance. Yep, against a big rival, and they go up ahead in their group and Ghana against Panama. This was a bit of a quieter game as well, but Ghana gets the uh the winner at the last minute. One nail against Panama and very last minute. Ooh, man, it's a good one. African teams are looking good. African teams are looking pretty decent, yeah. Pretty decent, especially the ones that everybody thinks that are gonna do really bad, like Cape Verde, like Congo. They they steal some points and they're coming to play. So we've had some pretty cool pretty cool stories so far coming out of the World Cup with uh with some of these players, like uh the Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozina, right? He had a phenomenal had a phenomenal performance against Spain. I think prior to the game he had about 50,000 Instagram followers. Now he's up to like over six or seven million, something insane. 40 years old. Imagine being 40 years old. That's a beautiful game, man. World Cup debut and putting on that performance. Yeah, that's that's 40 years old.
SPEAKER_01Against Spain, too. Not just against Spain.
SPEAKER_05Against Spain. That's the beauty of the World Cup, man. We get stories like these all the time. Elijah just from New Zealand putting on a world-class performance against Iran, a brace he had as well. Some of these Chris Wood had a phenomenal game. The way he controlled it.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, for that second goal.
SPEAKER_05The two assists that he gave him wasn't were amazing. There have been some games where on paper you would look at and say, uh not gonna be that great of a game. Iran versus New Zealand was one of them, and then Iraq versus Norway was another one that gave us a pretty good game.
SPEAKER_01Norway ended up winning by a pretty big margin, but Iran and New Zealand, that game was pretty packed too. Yeah. That was a packed game. I was surprised. I thought it was gonna be like half of the stadium. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But no. Yeah, they packed, they packed it. Yeah. It did, and that's the beauty of the World Cup, man. It gives us stories like these as well as the fans, man. I mean, let's talk about the fans real quick all over the US and Mexico and Canada. The Scottish fans took over New England over in Boston. And did you see this video of them at the Fenway Park singing super, super John McGinn? I mean, could you imagine being a Red Sox fan and thinking to yourself, what the fuck is going on right now? Who the hell is John McGinn? Why is he super John McGinn?
SPEAKER_01What's going on? And why are we this fucking cool? You know? Right, right.
SPEAKER_05And yeah, what what when did this game become so fun all of a sudden? We're in the middle of the season. Nobody cares about baseball in the middle of the season. Apparently, the Red Sox stink right now. The Fenway park was packed with Scottish fans, and it was beautiful to see. Uh they get their first win uh after 28 years against Haiti. John McGinn scores, and the Scottish fans have been great. There was a story that I saw that they were at a bar in Boston and they literally ran out of beer in the bar because of the Scottish fans drank them dry. Can you imagine that? Wow. Insane, man. Damn it.
SPEAKER_01The Scots are in Boston right now.
SPEAKER_05They're literally taking it. There's actually a pretty big Scottish presence in New England. Like just in general. A lot of immigrants. So there's a lot of people that live there that have uh Scottish past. I guess it makes sense. New England. There it is. New UK, I guess. And then we had the uh the New Regions fans with their with the rowing. With the rowing, yeah. They're all in sync, too. How do they all get in sync? That was it, that was incredible over at uh Gillette Stadium as well. Complete amazing, amazing from the from the New Regions fans. I even saw them going up to escalators up at Gillette Stadium, or even it wasn't at a mall. I don't know. There were the region fans going up escalators and they were they had their back turns and everybody was just in eyes closed. Yeah. They probably never met each other. They just saw everybody wearing the right jersey, and it's like, let's go. Everybody come off. We know what's a different birth. Exactly. Oh, amazing. The Dutch fans over in uh what was it, Kansas City? They were doing their little jumping. So fun to watch. So fun to watch. And today in Mexico City. They are. The Americans are going to start understanding. There's been some beautiful stories. Lawrence, Kansas, man. That's where the Algerian team is has their base camp. They're based out of there for this World Cup. And the local people have really gotten accustomed to the Algerians to the point where they're rooting for the Algerian team. They had I think for the local college was playing their Algerian national anthem with their band. It's been beautiful to see the local people are loving the fact that Algeria chose to be part of Lawrence, Kansas. These are the stories that we love to see.
SPEAKER_01Well, they got their ass whooped.
SPEAKER_05I mean, they got their ass whooped, bro. That was crazy. That was, I mean, to talk about Argentina and Messi really quick. I didn't think Argentina played all that well. It was just Messi being brilliant. And to me, even I was at a point where I don't know how good Argentina's gonna be, this World Cup. I don't know how good Messi's gonna be. He's about to be 39. He turns 39 in less than a week. He's playing in MLS, he's not really playing against big oppositions. I wonder how good he's gonna come into the World Cup. Boy, did he prove everybody wrong. Because first game, had trick, broke a ton of records.
SPEAKER_04He's still the best player in the world.
SPEAKER_01Let's see if he continues it. The next two matches I think are gonna be even easier than Algeria.
SPEAKER_05I thought Algeria was gonna be their toughest match as well.
SPEAKER_01That's why I was surprised. Yeah. So I I I think it's just gonna be a brief until the knockouts for Argentina, and then we'll we'll we'll see what they're made of. Yeah. We'll see.
SPEAKER_05But I do I do think that they will go far because they will win this group easy. And I think the first couple of knockout games, if they win their group, aren't gonna be that tough. I think it's Paraguay and I forget the other one. Off the top of my head, I'd have to look at it. But the first couple of games aren't gonna be that tough. It starts getting tough in the quarterfinals because I believe if Colombia won their group and Argentina won their group, we face each other in the middle. We win by my face. Yeah, or Portugal. Yeah. Or Portugal, yeah. That would be interesting. But again, Portugal's not winning the group. Columbia's winning next group.
SPEAKER_01But I mean it's either or so.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's one or the other.
SPEAKER_01That's when it starts getting interesting.
SPEAKER_05But you can tell too, Messi, Messi's just doing it for the love of the game. Like he's just there because he loves to play. He loves to represent his national team. Oh yeah, he doesn't need to be there. Exactly. He doesn't need to be there. He doesn't need to be there.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure I'm I'm sure he wanted to play knowing that he was a world champ too. Just growing up being the world champ from the tournament. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And defend it. And then you can tell but you can tell that he's got that weight lifted off his shoulders of not having to win it anymore.
SPEAKER_01That's a that's another thing. Yeah, he just wants to play freely now without having that pressure. Because every World Cup he's had that pressure, like, oh, I have to win it. Especially after like the last two. Yeah. So now he doesn't have that pressure anymore, like he already won it, and he can just kind of do whatever. If he gets knocked out, it's like, all right, well, whatever. Fuck you. I already won it. What are you gonna say? Yeah, exactly. He's like already won it. I'm 39 years old right now. Top off.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. And I still came out, I scored a had triggered my first game, and I'm gonna take this team as far as I can. And I do think Argentina will make a pretty deep run again. I think they'll at the very least get to the semifinals if Messi continues to play this way. So yeah, very true. But yeah. Amazing, amazing performance by Messi. Uh and we've had some, again, great performances so far at the World Cup. It hasn't disappointed. This is what we love about the tournament. Huge win by Colombia. Uh today, the fans showed out as well. We are always the home team wherever we go. Even since last night, Colombian fans were flooding the streets of Mexico City. Just a wave of yellow. Exactly. It's just a wave of yellow. The national anthem today, every single time it gives me shills. There was, I think, 80,000 people in that stadium. I think 79,000 were Colombian. Yeah. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01The other there was about a thousand Uzbekistan fans. I I don't even know how many people they have in their country. You know, I don't know what their population is, but it's a small country compared to ours.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. So, but we we travel deep wherever we go, everywhere we play, it's like every time. It's like a home game, every single time. So shout out to every Colombian fan that made the the trip over to Mexico City. And can't wait for the next game against against Congo. But huge win by Columbia, massive result. Great start to the tournament by the boys. And we'll see you guys. I don't know when we're going to record next. Yeah. We'll keep we'll keep recording for you guys, probably every other day or so.
