The DCMS has determined that the UK government should work in tandem with various publishing entities and artists to address the differences in how content aggregators, artists, and writers are paid. Currently, the share of revenue is very lopsided, and a more equitable 50/50 earning rate needs to be established. The watered down payments artists and (especially) writers have received for decades may be changing, and the evidence that Sony has paid down previous advances is a good sign.
What do you think of this decision? Are you feeling more hopeful about the direction the music industry is heading in?
