Joshua Takes Moses’ Place
SPEAKER_03Well, hello, everybody. Welcome back to Teach Me the Bible Podcast. In this series, we're going through the Bible in a year. My name is Alex Wolf. I'm here with Dr. David Klingler. I want to remind you before we jump into our book today to head on over to teachmethebible.com. We have plenty of other resources, book studies, along with study guides to go with other book studies. We have daily devotionals and blog posts, many resources for you to continue to learn and to understand God's word and the story of the Bible. Today we're coming out of Deuteronomy and going into the book of Joshua. So Moses, we learned, did not make it. He doesn't get to go to the land. And so now we're looking as Israel's getting ready to go into the land under the leadership of Joshua. And so, Doc, if you would uh teach us.
What “Strong And Courageous” Means
Dr. David KlinglerSo we jump, uh so we'll we just jump right in here. So it came about after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, that the Lord spoke to Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses' servant, saying, Moses, my servant, is dead. Now therefore arise, cross the Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I'm giving to uh to them, to the sons of Israel. And every place which the sole of your foot treads, there I've given it to you. And so off they go into the uh into the uh into the land. There's a couple verses uh in the book of Joshua that seems like everybody knows, right? One of them is uh uh you know, be verse six, chapter one, verse six. Be strong and courageous, uh uh and that's it, right? Be strong and courageous. It's interesting how we we just you know chop the verse right out. You know, uh uh uh the other one is as for me in my house, we will serve the Lord. Those are the two verses that people know. Everyone's got that in their heads. In the book of uh yeah, that's right. So so you know, we play this uh game with our seminary students, right? You know, I'll name the uh you know, tell me how long you've been in church, uh and then I'll name the book, and I can tell you how many verses you know in that book. That's good. And and literally no other verses. I mean, there's nothing else in the book, but be strong and courageous for you um for you, talking to Joshua, shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to the fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to do according to all the law which Moses, my servant, commanded you. Do not turn to it from the right or to the left, so that you may uh have uh uh have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, you shall meditate on it day and night. That sounds a lot like Psalm one, right? Uh the uh the the the uh the law was to be on their heart, uh, and that which fills the heart comes out of the mouth, and so you shall be careful to do according to all that's written in it, then uh your way will be prosperous and you will have success. Well, now we need to explain what prosperous and success is in this context, right? Uh you will take the land, you will have success in taking the land if you listen to me and don't uh you know deviate from this uh word from the right or to the left. Now, we can cheat and know how this goes, right? Uh you know, uh we we uh next uh week when we talk about the book of Judges, uh in Judges chapter one, it chronicles their failures in chapter two. Then the the angel of the Lord says, because you didn't listen to the Lord, yeah your God. And so so um so we watch how this uh how this is gonna go, and it's not going to go well because they are not going to listen to the word of the Lord as was given by Moses, as Moses foretold. Right. So uh Moses isn't shocked. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, Moses is like, yeah, I knew you all people were gonna do that, right? It's like having kids, right? You know what they're gonna do before they do it. You can sit there and watch their little thought process. You I know exactly what he's about to do, and you think he's a fooling, he's not fooling. Uh uh. So have I not commanded you be strong and courageous, do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. And so uh so the command is uh is given. Um Moses is died, then the new Moses. Joshua has taken Moses' uh place. And uh and the the the book of Joshua is presenting Joshua as not the greater Moses. You know, you're looking for in Deuteronomy chapter chapter uh eighteen, the greater Moses, uh, and this is uh not the greater Moses, it's the lesser Moses. He's he's like Moses, just not quite as impressive. He's not you know, he only sends out two spies and tether instead of twelve. He only crosses the Jordan. Yeah, he crossed the Jordan, not the sea, right? But he's but he's you know he's doing similar things. Yeah, he's doing similar things, but always uh lesser.
Joshua As The Lesser Moses
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
Rahab And The Spy Story Twist
Dr. David KlinglerUh and it says so uh this is in chapter two. Then Joshua, the son of Moon, sent two spies, two men as spies, secretly from Shidam. Now, um the last time that we uh heard uh about this um this uh place Shittim was back in Numbers uh chapter 25. And chapters uh in Numbers chapter uh you know chapters 22, 23, 24, you get you get this Balaam and Balak where uh where this uh this foreign king is trying to hire a prophet to curse Israel. The Lord's not gonna curse them. He has vowed to bless them, he's determined to bless Israel. Uh and uh uh and we talked about this uh um you know a couple weeks ago. Uh but then you know kind of the camera, the cameraman, you know, is you you you can almost envision it, right? The the frame is tight on uh on Balaam's face, and the Lord has determined to bless Israel. And then the the the camera kind of pans over and looks down the hill, and there they are, while Israel remained at Shittim, uh the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab, for they invited the people to sacrifice to their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods, and Israel joined themselves to Baal of Peor, and the Lord was angry with Israel. Um the the harlotry, uh the the harlot, you know, the playing the harlot, the the word for harlot throughout the whole Old Testament, which we're going to run into Rahab the harlot here immediately. The word for harlotry is most often in the Old Testament not physical harlotry, but playing the harlot with the Baals, playing the harlot with foreign gods, going after foreign gods. And so uh so they began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab, uh, and they went after and they attach themselves, they join themselves to Baal. Right, and so uh so you've got this uh this um you know playing the harlot. So so they're there at Shittim, they're playing the harlot in Shitam, uh, and then the next uh time we see this, right? So then Moses preaches the sermon, uh, and then Joshua sends out two uh you know sends out the spies from Shittimm and you're going, uh oh, this isn't uh good. So they just they just came from the place where they're playing the harlot, and they go to to Rahab's house. Right? So so then Joshua sent out the sons of Noon. Uh uh I'm sorry, Joshua the son of noon, sent out two men, two spies, secretly from Shitham, saying, Go view the land, especially Jericho. And they went and they came to the house of the harlot. So they go straight to the harlot's house. They just came from the harlot, and they're going straight to the harlot's house. Uh they go straight to the harlot's house and came into the house of the harlot, whose name was Rahab, and it says they lodged there, is how the New American Standard translates it. Literally, they laid down there. They went to the harlot's house to lay down. That's the language. If you're thinking that's not what they're doing, really that's it. Yeah, that that's that's exactly what they're doing. Okay. And so there's a great irony in this story that Rahab the harlot. It's interesting that Rahab gets the name harlot. It's Rahab the harlot. Well, she did play the harlot in this story, but not in the way that you would think, right? They go to the harlot's house to lay down there, um, and the harlot plays the harlot against her God. Uh and she aligns herself with the God of Israel. Wow. Right. Uh, and so the harlot does play the harlot, but not in the way that you anticipated. And Israel's go straight to the harlot's house, and and uh, and so there's this story. There's there's this turnabout that comes back that's really, really fascinating.
unknownUh-huh.
Dr. David KlinglerAnd it was told to the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, men, the sons of Israel, had come uh here tonight to search out the land. And the king of Jericho sent word to Rahab, saying, Bring out the men who came to you, who entered your house, for they have come to search out the land. But the the woman had taken the two men and hidden them, uh, and said, Yes, the men came to me, I don't know where they came from. And it came about that when it was uh time to shut the gate at dark, the men went out, and I don't know where they went out. Pursue them quickly, for uh you will overtake them. And so there's a there's you know, this is a story that many are familiar with. Uh and so the men uh, you know, she she she aligns herself with the God of Israel. She says, I know that the Lord has given you this land, and the terror uh of you has fallen on us, and all the inhabitants of the land have melted away before you. Uh for we have heard how the Lord dried up the water uh of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and how you destroyed these these kings, and uh and so she's she's telling the story of the Old Testament. It's interesting, she knows the story.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
The Scarlet Cord And The Red Thread
Dr. David KlinglerThey're playing the harlot down there at the pr with the prophets of Baal, and she's over here, the harlot, who's telling the story. You know, she's she's she's singing the Moses songs. She's fearing the Lord, and they apparently are. She says, now therefore, yeah, swear to me by the Lord, uh, since I have dealt kind, since I've aligned myself with you, I've dealt kindly with you, uh, that you will deal kindly with my father's house, uh, and give me a pledge of this truth. And so they they uh give her uh this is down in verse 17 of chapter uh chapter two. They say, you know, when we come, you know, you need to have this they they translated this this cord of scarlet thread uh in your window. Now um this is where we need to pause, and and uh one of our students, uh uh uh Warren Truesdale is writing a dissertation on this. We'll try to get him in later to to talk about this more. This will be a really interesting discussion to have. But but the last time we saw the scarlet thread was back in uh in Genesis chapter 38, uh, when Judah uh had uh twin sons uh with Tamar. Uh and the oldest sons, uh you know, the oldest son or the firstborn, his hand comes out, that's Zeroch, and they tie the scarlet thread around his hand, and then his hand goes back in, and Perez comes out. Oh, what a breach this is, and so he's called breach. And so then the story kind of leaves it there. You've tracked the the promised uh geni genealogy of the Messiah down through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, not Reuben, not Simeon, not Levi, Judah, uh one of these two sons, but you don't know which son it is.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
Dr. David KlinglerAnd so you're tracking the red thread. Um, and so you're looking for the red thread, and then this red thread shows up here in the store, and you're going, wait a second. I've heard this before.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
Jericho Victory Then Achan’s Sin
Dr. David KlinglerRight? Uh, and then uh the the Israel comes in, they uh you know, they uh they destroy Jericho, Rahab is delivered, she has the red thread uh delivered, and then off they go to uh to the next town. They they do this uh you know this um um victory in chapter six, then they go to the next town, chapter seven, is I and they lose in battle in I. And you know, m uh Joshua comes out and throws this uh this pity party um um that uh that's really fascinating. Um he's uh he's sound sounding like the like Israel. Oh Lord, you know that you know you brought us over to kill us, you know. Oh, you know, what what's the deal? And the Lord says, you know what, uh um I'm not the problem here. I'm not the one who has sinned. There's sin in the camp, right? Um and uh and so um and so um what happens then is is they go to s to figure out who has kept things that are under the ban. Under the ban. What's that? Well, back in Deuteronomy chapter 20, Israel is told that if you when you take the land, you're to utterly destroy all the ites in the land. Kill them all. Okay, you don't make deals with them, you don't make covenants with them. That's gonna be a problem in chapter nine of Joshua. Um but you're to utterly destroy them, don't intermarry with them, nothing. Okay. Um, and um and so what has happened is someone has kept things, uh, something that's under the band. You destroy them and you don't keep anything that's that's uh that's theirs. You you utterly destroy it, okay. Well, it turns out that someone has kept something under the band. They they have taken some things that are under the band and have stolen and deceived. Moreover, they have put them among their own things in their tent. And this was for uh this was disallowed back in Deuteronomy chapter chapter seven. Uh end of chapter seven. Uh, and so they draw lots and uh to see which tribe this offense has happened in, and it was the tribe of Judah.
unknownUh oh.
Dr. David KlinglerUh, and then they continue uh uh to draw lots and uh uh see um uh and he brought the family of Judah near uh and he took the family of Zerah, the Zerites. Remember back the firstborn, Zero, the red thread. Um, and it continues to go down that line to Achan, the son of Kamri, the son of Zebdi, the son of Zeroch, from the tribe of Judah was taken.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
Dr. David KlinglerUh and so um you find out that there's a direct descendant from Zeroch, apparently the carrier of the promise.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
Dr. David KlinglerUh and uh uh he is uh uh brought out uh and all that was to him was destroyed. Uh and and that's how uh uh and Israel stoned them and burned them with fire uh and uh after they had stoned them with stones. And so uh in verse 24, chapter seven, verse twenty-four, it says uh Achan the son of Zarach, the silver, uh all his cattle, all his donkeys, all his sheep, and all that was to him. They brought it into the valley of Achor, the valley of trouble. And this valley's gonna play a role in the rest of the story as well. And so he is destroyed, and all that is to him is destroyed. Now he was the carrier of the promise. The red thread now is no longer in the tribe of Zeroch, is no longer with Achan. Where is it? It's with Rahab. And uh, and so when we uh look at the the genealogy, the Matthew of uh the genealogy uh of of uh of the messianic line in Matthew, um uh and this is uh this is uh Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, Jacob begot Judah and his brothers, and Judah to Judah was born Perez and Zarach by Tamar. And to Perez was born Hezron, not through Zerach, but through Perez, right? So so the the Matthew tells us, reminds us that these two sons, that uh that Judah had two sons, Perez and Zerach, uh, uh by Tamar, and to Perez was born Hezron. So it's not going through Zarok, the firstborn, but it's going through Perez. Um uh and to um Hezron was born Ram, to Ram, Abinadad, Abinadad, Nashon, Nashon, Solomon. And to Solomon was born Boaz by Rahab.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
The Commander Of The Lord’s Armies
Dr. David KlinglerAnd to Boaz was born Obed, and to uh by Ruth, and to Obed, Jesse, and Jesse David. And so David's line is coming through Rahab, Rahab, the red thread, the red thread, which is just really amazing. And so uh you say, well, why did why did we need to know about these two stories? The story of Rahab the harlot, uh, who played the harlot against her God, and this story of of Achan uh and the the the loss in battle. That's why, because we're still tracking not only Israel taking the land, but also uh this messianic uh this messianic sea. That's amazing. Yeah, and so uh one other thing we probably ought to go back and and and just mention uh quickly. So so in uh at the end of chapter five, so uh in chapter uh uh you you get this uh in chapter uh chapter two, they send out the spies, they go to Rahab, chapter three, they they cross over the the Jordan. Israel crosses over the Jordan, they set up stones, uh 12 stones, uh one stone for each tribe. Uh that remember that you know this this rock, this stone imagery. And so each right each tribe is dependent upon the promise of Christ. Wow, the stone, the rock, they set up the pillar, the twelve stones. Uh uh for the Lord has uh uh your God has dried up the waters of the Jordan before you. They cross over on dry land, just as they did coming out of out of uh out of Egypt. Uh and um then um it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn uh in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said, Are you for us or for our adversaries? Uh I love this story because um actually I I love how it's per uh portrayed in the veggie tales.
SPEAKER_03Oh man, I've been watching a lot of that lately.
Dr. David KlinglerUh do you have Josh in the big wall?
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
Dr. David KlinglerSo and John, you remember Larry's laying on his face? Yeah, yeah. Larry the cucumber is uh uh he uh he's uh he's playing uh uh Joshua and uh he uh it says uh uh when he he saw this angel, he said uh he you know he fell to his uh uh you know he he fell on his face to the with his face to the earth. Right. Joshua fell on his face to the earth uh and he bowed down and he said, and in the veggie tails. Oh are you for us or against us? Yeah, yeah. What are you uh you know, he turns his head to the side, spits out the sand and says, Are you for us or against us? He says, Neither. I love that. That's that's just classic. Um I you know, we get a lot of our uh understanding of the Bible from veggie page, which is uh but but this is the the the captain uh of the host of the Lord, the captain there, the word for captain is how it's translated in New American Standard, it's the word Tsar. Um uh the next time that we see this this captain of the uh the the the hosts of the Lord, the armies of the Lord, uh is in uh is in Daniel chapter twelve. Now at that time, Michael, the great Tsar who stands guard over your people. Wow.
SPEAKER_03And so Tsar meaning prince or Prince, yeah, yeah, Prince.
Dr. David KlinglerSarah gets her name from this Sarah princess. Uh so this captain or this prince of the host, the wow, the Sava Oak, the s the Sarah. Savah is an army, the armies of the Lord.
unknownWow.
Dr. David KlinglerAnd so probably Michael here, uh, who was the one that was promised back in Exodus chapter 33. Uh, Moses has told uh of the Lord, I'm not going to lead you into the land. My angel will lead you into the land. So this is the angel that's been appearing all the way through.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
Gibeon’s Deception And Dangerous Vows
Dr. David KlinglerUh, and uh, and Michael, the great prince who stands guard over your people, uh, here he appears. And he's the one in in chapter uh uh chapter two of the book of Judges is going to uh uh uh to chronicle Israel's failures to take the land. So anyway, so so in the book of Joshua, so we've got in chapter uh two uh the story of uh of the sending out of the spies, chapter three, chapter four, the memorial crossing, chapter five, the appearance of this uh uh of this angel. Then chapter six, they win at uh Jericho, chapter seven, uh uh they lose at I, uh, and they find out why because it's Achan uh who has kept things under the ban. Then they win in I. Uh now the way that they win in uh this uh in I is they uh you know they they go to battle, they lose, they go to battle to lose. Uh they figure out why they're losing, then they draw uh out the the the uh the the men, they circle around back and they come in from the back and they uh does they they win in battle. Keep uh remember that story because uh in Judges chapter 1920, uh we're gonna hear that story again. Uh there's a lot of imagery, a lot of storytelling is gonna resurface in this story. Chapter 9. Uh so in chapter 9, uh Gibeonites, these are these are inhabitant the inhabitants of the city of Gibeon uh come uh and they present themselves uh as being from a far-off place. Um it came about when all the kings were beyond the Jordan in the hill country uh that uh they gathered themselves together with one accord to fight against Joshua. But the uh when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard that Joshua what he had done to Jericho and what he had done to I, they acted craftily and they set out envoys, yeah, and uh they they acted like they were from from far off, and they came and they said, make a deal with us, uh uh, you know, and make a covenant with us. Now back in Deuteronomy chapter 20, they were not supposed to make any deals with the people in the lands, the ice in the lands. Uh and uh Israel here doesn't uh Joshua doesn't seek the counsel of the Lord, uh, and so they make a covenant with the Gibeonites to not destroy them. And so uh when you make a covenant with the uh you know uh with with someone, when you when you make a deal, when you make a vow uh uh to the Lord, you shall be sure to keep it lest the Lord your God require it of you. This is in Deuteronomy chapter 23. So when you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it. It would be sin in you, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you. If you refrain from vowing, it will not be sent in you. So you shall be careful to perform everything that comes out of your lips that you voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God.
SPEAKER_03So they put themselves in a lose-lose essentially.
Incomplete Conquest And Iron Chariots
Dr. David KlinglerThey made a vow to not keep the law. Well, what do you do? Well, we're we're gonna see this in uh in Judges chapter 17. You're gonna see this all all the way through the story. When you make a vow to break the law, do you keep the vow or do you break the law? And you're going, well, how about neither? How about let's not vow? This is what Jesus is gonna say. Right. No known vow, let your yes be yes, and your no be no. Don't vow. Well, they they get themselves in trouble here. They vow. Uh, actually, uh, this vow uh is going to show up much later in the story. Uh, and so if you don't uh know that this is what has has happened, uh then uh you won't uh this won't make any uh any sense to you uh later in uh in the story. Uh in chapter 21 of 2 Samuel says there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. David sought the presence of the Lord, and the Lord said, It is for Saul and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death. And so they made a vow here in chapter nine to you know be in covenant relationship with the Gibeonites. Um Saul's gonna go back on that covenant, he's gonna kill Gibeonites, uh, and the Lord's gonna send a famine on the land because of what Saul has done. So all these stories begin to to pile up uh and uh and begin to to uh to build on each other. So so the rest of the book of uh Joshua then is uh chronicling Israel's taking uh of the land or failure to take the land. Um uh and you'll see these these excuses repeated in Judges chapter one. Uh, for example, uh the sons of Manasseh could not take uh possession of the cities because the Canaanites persisted in living in the land. And it came about that when the sons of Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but they couldn't drive them out completely. And so uh uh and so um uh you get these interesting stories, passages, like in chapter 17, it says, And then the sons of Joseph, then uh this is in 17, right after the sons of Manasseh, uh, the sons of Joseph said, The hill country is not enough for us. And all of the Canaanites who live in the valley have chariots of iron, um, both uh those who are in Bethshan and in all of its towns. Uh and so Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph and to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, You are a great and numerous people, and have great power. You shall uh uh not have one lot, but the hill country shall be yours, uh, though it is a forest, you shall clear it, and it will and its furthest borders shall be yours. For you shall drive out the Canaanites uh even though they have iron chariots, uh though they are strong. You say, wait a second, uh you're to you're to clear out the forest. Well, back in Deuteronomy chapter 20, back in the here's how you uh just this is how you overtake the land, at the end of chapter 20, you know, you know, you you don't make a deal with the ice, right? Um it's in chapter 20, verse 20, it says uh uh only the trees uh uh which you know are not uh fruit trees you shall destroy and cut down, uh, and you are to use them to construct siege works against the city. You're not to destroy the the trees, verse 19, in the land. Only uh the only reason you would cut down a tree is to besiege the cities to overthrow the uh uh to to build siege ramps. So yeah, so you need that to to overtake the to to be able to uh overtake the walls.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
Cities Of Refuge And Why It Matters
Dr. David KlinglerSo here Joshua's telling them, yeah, go cut down the trees and live there. You know, what are you saying, man? No, no, no. And so you're getting this failure after failure after failure. Uh one other uh uh passage that we probably should mention uh that will play a role uh in the rest of the uh the story is in chapter 20, the cities of refuge.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
Dr. David KlinglerUh in chapter uh chapter 20, uh the six cities of refuge. What's a city of refuge? Well, the city of refuge is is when someone when you accidentally kill someone, uh it's not you're not guilty of murder, you're guilty of manslaughters, is where we get the uh the the manslaughter, even in our law today. That's called a manslayer. Uh when uh you you kill someone you didn't intend to, something happens. Uh you there's a this is a place where you can flee and seek refuge in this city of refuge. Uh and uh those who are pursuing you seeking justice, they think that you've committed murder, right? Then then they can come to the city uh and they will call you out, and your case will be heard by the city elders in the city gates. And um, and so uh so this so this is what was to happen, and the elders were to hear the evidence, and if you know, if you were found to be not guilty, then you could stay in the city. Uh if you were found to be guilty, then you were expelled from the city. You were turned into the over to the hand of the avenger of blood, it's called, uh, and they would kill you. These uh cities were uh uh Kadesh and Shechem, uh Hebron, Bezer, Remoth, and uh Golan. All six of these cities.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and the story's not gonna continue to remind you of this. That's right. You just have to keep it in your mind and know when these cities come back up, there's something special about them. Yep, yeah.
Dr. David KlinglerJoab is going to uh you know, he's going to uh you know uh pursue uh he's uh he's the Avenger of Blood, he's gonna pursue into the to the city of uh uh of Hebron, um, and he's gonna take action in his own hands. He's not going to wait for the elders to hear the case and uh and he's gonna kill uh you know kill the general.
SPEAKER_04Right.
The Lord Keeps Promises And Closing
Dr. David KlinglerUh and uh uh and and so you're supposed to know these things as you listen to the story, uh, but because we don't know them, then we misinterpret uh the stories. And so so you get the these six cities of refuge, um, and uh and the story ends with the Lord. It says, you know, the the Lord did uh did his part, okay? Um uh everything that the Lord promised, the Lord has done. Yeah you say, well, wait a second, how how can it be that the Lord fulfilled all his promises, but when we get to the next book, when we get to Judges chapter one, it appears that he didn't. Well, no, the Lord did his part. You didn't do your part, like back in uh uh in uh in uh the the I, right? Uh when when the Lord when you know when when Joshua comes to the Lord in chapter seven and says, you know, Lord, uh why did you bring us out over the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites, to kill us, destroy us? Uh and the the Lord uh said, Rise up, uh Israel has sinned, and they have transgressed against my covenant. I I'm doing my part, you're not doing your part, right? You are departing, you're turning from the right uh or the left, you're you're not following uh the instruction of Moses, and so you're not going to have success in taking the land completely. And because they don't, that's gonna cause problems and uh and they're gonna be led astray. And so we're just gonna watch this play out. So, so if you know the law, if you know Deuteronomy, and you and you're watching, you're reading this story in Joshua, they're not utterly destroying the Amorites, the Hittites, the Canaanites. Yeah. The Jebusa, I see where this is gonna happen. It's going exactly where Moses said it was gonna go.
SPEAKER_03Right.
Dr. David KlinglerAnd so that's that's what we're going to find next week uh when we pick it up in the book of Judges.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, man, that's great. So uh so in Joshua, we got a story of things already not going well.
Dr. David KlinglerYeah, they're already uh it's it's starting to already fall apart, and they haven't even taken the land yet.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oh boy, here we go. And then we're gonna find out even more in the book of Judges, and I think we'll be shocked by some of the things we see in there.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely.
