Aloha and welcome to Livestock Bala'au , a podcast aimed to provide educational support , information , guidance and outreach to our livestock stakeholders in Hawaii and the rest of the US . We are your hosts , melia Oshiro and Shannon Sand . Today we're just going to talk a little bit about what's going on this month and updates on some programs that will be coming up . I wanted to share a project myself and Dr Caleb Reichart , and it's to support some beef cattle management workshops that are going to be happening over the next year . It's a three-year grant . Currently we're limited on space in the first year for how many participants we can put into each of the different workshops , but it will be offered again in the next , subsequent years .

Mele Oshiro

We're going to have an on-farm food animal processing workshops in March of this year we will be sending out more information about that and another workshop we'll have will be focused on calving and grazing management for grass-finished beef and it's going to be in Kamuela on the Big Island and that will be in April and likely the weekend of the 12th the dates are still being confirmed , but it will be in April of this year and then we'll have a workshop in the ending part of the year looking at beef cattle weaning , management and replacement heifer selection . This is all part of a grant beef cattle management workshops . We'll share the full details and dates of everything and registrations , but I just wanted to give people a heads up that these are things that are come up . So if you're interested in these workshops , send us an email , or send me an email so that at least I'll put your name on the list so that when things do come out we can share that information directly with you . And that's all I have right now .

Shannon Sand

No , that sounds pretty exciting For Nebraska and the rest of the West . Preliminary information on the Ag Land Value Survey should be forthcoming around mid-March . I just spoke with a colleague about that . So I'm pretty sure around mid-March I just spoke with a colleague about that . So I'm pretty sure around mid-March . You can check for the Nebraska land values and at least a preliminary will be available . There is the soft launch of the ABC or Ag Budget Calculator . The livestock version will be coming out in March . I know I'm so excited . We'll have to talk to Glynis , who's one of the web developers , for it and have her on . I know I'm so excited . We will have to talk to Glenys , who's one of the web developers for it and have her on . I think it's pretty exciting .

Shannon Sand

We will be talking about this more . Yes , I said the last two years helping develop this . We will be talking about this more .

Mele Oshiro

Yeah , you've been talking about it for a while .

Shannon Sand

March 7th and 8th we're having the returning to the farm workshop . It's a little bit more like a retreat than a workshop , I would say , and that you and all of your family members are supposed to come to it . So you work together as a family to begin developing that estate and transition plan . So in terms of succession , creating those timelines , in terms of management , transition plans , how that's going to work . There's also an attorney . There's all different kinds of experts that will be present so you can ask lots of questions too , and it is two days long . So it is a commitment .

Shannon Sand

But if you're really wanting to get started on this whole estate and transition planning , it's a really good time to do it . And again , bring yourself , bring your family members , so that you guys can all start out on that same even open playing field . So it's a good opportunity . And then we have a grain marketing series starting March 11th . It's all online and it's free , so if you're interested in it , please check it out . Jessica grosskoff , our panhandle regional ag economist , is in charge of that , so that will be available online . So , no matter where you are , if you're interested in it , you can check it out oh right , and our upcoming guest this month is going to be Yunuen Bustamante .

Mele Oshiro
