If you've ever felt like you're "not doing enough" because your practice isn't chasing seven, eight, or nine figures... this one's your permission slip. Andy and Jacinta are getting real about the quiet pressure to constantly scale, and why they turned down a multi-million-dollar opportunity to keep growing on their own terms.

In This Episode:

  • Why the post-COVID coaching world convinced everyone that bigger is always better (and why that's a myth)
  • The real story behind turning down a franchise opportunity for Open Space Healing
  • How a plane ride brainstorm turned into one of their biggest lessons in alignment
  • The home renovation analogy that explains exactly why "more" doesn't always mean "better"
  • Why Andy and Jacinta define "scaling" completely differently, and why they're both right
  • A client story about choosing to stop opening more clinics and freeing herself instead
  • How to actually work out your true values (hint: look at where your time and money go)
  • Why choosing "enough" can feel like rebellion in a culture obsessed with faster and more

Key Quote: "The coaching world has told you that if you're not scaling big, then you are playing small, and we're calling absolute bullshit on that." - Andy

We've learned from past lessons. When we actually tuned in, we sat with ourselves and we thought about our top values, what phase of life we're in right now, what we actually want, and what we need to sustain our lifestyles and the freedom that we want to have in our lives. That was not aligned.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And some of you have also got our sickness, which is welcome back to another episode of the Wealthy Warners Business Podcast.

SPEAKER_01

And today is going to be a bit of a pep talk, a really short, punchy, juicy episode. And it's something that Jacintha and I have had a couple of disagreements about, and something that we think really needs to be talked about more and shared. And so that's why we're delivering it to you today, into your ears and your eyes. Essentially, what I'm getting at is that since COVID, especially in 2020, and the explosion of the coaching and mentoring space, there has been an influx of noise from media, from social media, uh online, right? Because we were so focused on online, we we couldn't leave our homes. And with that explosion, there has been this really slow creep of uh comparison of you should be wanting a seven-figure business. Everybody has a seven-figure business. People are having six-figure launches. Seven-figure business isn't enough. You need to be going for an eight-figure business. And that is just not true. And I think it overwhelms a lot of people. And we want to just like bust, bust this theory, this stigma out there that bigger is better, that bigger is better. And that if you're not constantly growing and moving and the next thing, then you're playing small or you're not good enough. Because in our opinion, that couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth in some instances. Actually, in most instances, because the majority of the beautiful, heart-led, impactful, smart women who come to us who want to learn from us, they don't want the huge empire. They want the beautiful business that allows them to have the flexibility, the freedom in their lives so that they can make the impact, they can live well, they can go on holidays, they can have the families. And that often it doesn't look like a seven-figure business. And so that's what we wanted to speak into today. And for us personally, there have been many times, many times over the last, well, we've had open space healing, so our clinic for 14 years now. And many times where we have been gifted opportunities. Once a colleague actually floated the idea, because he's over over East, um, of helping us open a brad over in Bondi, which would have been so fun.

SPEAKER_00

Definitely pricked up my ears for a little while, to be fair.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we were so good at going with that. Um, and then we were on a business retreat over in Thailand and on the way home. We have the best, we have the best airplane idea brainstorming.

SPEAKER_00

We're closer to God, that's why.

SPEAKER_01

Closer to God, and I think it's the container. It's having the container of the airplane. There's no kids, there's no distractions, it's just us. And no, you know what it is.

SPEAKER_00

It's you have trapped me, you trapped me in a vessel in the sky, and uh then you've got me uninterrupted. Because Andy is like, I I know how to work, but this woman, she knows how to work. Yeah, yeah. I think I think you like uh energy on energy for that type of stuff. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So for those playing along, I'm an Aries, Aries sun, Aries rising, and a generator in human design as well. And in the Chinese zodiac, I'm a rat as well, which is the first, is the first zodiac sign. So you get you get my drift. It's the pioneer achiever. It's great. Um, potentially why we've achieved so much. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, in this plane, in this plane uh ride, uh, we had the idea after the business retreat to franchise. And so that was, we did a lot of investigating. And look, these ideas looked so good on paper, and they made so much sense for the brand, for the business. And I know within our hearts, like within my soul, I know that we could have executed them. Like we could have run with it, we could have made open space, which is a multi-seven-figure business, we could have made that into an eight-figure business or even nine-figure business if we wanted to. And then, because we've learned from past lessons, when we actually tuned in, we sat with ourselves and we thought about our top values, what phase of life we're in right now, what we actually want, and what we need to sustain our lifestyles and the freedom that we want to have in our lives. That was not aligned.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And some of you have also got our sickness, which is you build something, you get to like the top of that, and then you're looking for what's next. And quite often, when that happens, you're finally, finally reaping the rewards of all the things that you've worked for. And so instead of just enjoying that for a sec, it's like, what else can we do to like frazzle our nervous system and then put us back into gross mode? And that has been a real lesson for me is because it's like I really enjoy growing. I really enjoy, I just enjoy the job, right? So it's like it, I have to really catch myself when I'm going to that next thing and be like, you know what? It's just fine to be here for a sec. That pause, so important. Yeah. So important. And then maybe we can pick up something after that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And I think about the analogy of your home. Right? At the moment, you're renovating. I'm renovating, kind of. And so you're okay. Imagine this. You're in your home, right? And you have the choice, the ability, either do a few renovations, make this home perfect for you, make it beautiful, do little things, tweaks, and whatever to optimize where you are, or you have the shiny object syndrome, keeping up with the Joneses, grass is greener, and you buy a bigger house. Yeah, in the nicer suburb. And when you're in there, you realize, okay, I didn't actually understand the expenses, the maintenance, all of these other things that come with that extra growth. And so that's that's what I think about when you know you're you're constantly thinking about scaling and and growth.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Yeah. And I think about also what we have been very purposeful in creating with open space. Obviously, in all of our marketing and things we throw around seven-figure business. Of course, when you're marketing, you have to give yourself some credibility. Who's really going to care what we have to say if they don't actually know what we can do, right? But someone said to my mum the other day, she was like, it's just interesting renovating her house. And I was, she was like, Yeah, yeah, it's really expensive with the trades at the moment. She was like, but doesn't she have heaps of money? I'm like, we're comfortable, but the business is built around the lifestyle that we want. Because look, if me and you still were wanting to consult full-time in the practice, mate, we'll be rolling in the dough. The houses would be done, but I would be hating life. So, so the fact that, you know, for us, success in what we have created looks like actually just being able to do the things that we enjoy every single day and be able to be with family, have other projects going on, build other businesses.

SPEAKER_01

And I think that not that we're poor, but no, we're very privileged and we're very grateful as well. And we take ownership of all of the time, energy, like all of the investments that we've made over the years to get to get to where we are as well today. Um I think in this current space, when you say, okay, enough, and you don't take that opportunity, it's almost like it's a rebellion. Like you're rebelling against the culture scape, like our modern, our modern world of bigger, better, more e you know, um AI and uh faster content, faster, quicker. By sitting in the seat of this is good. This is enough. And this is this I'm going to enjoy this. It's almost like a F you. Like I I'm rebelling against the the norm here. And I'm thinking about one of our one of our clients. So she has her second, she's opened her second clinic with us. Like they're they're busy. And look, she could easily like go and open more, like more clinics, more team. However, we actually with where she's at and her values and what she wants in life, we we helped her get to that decision of okay, well, that this is enough. I'm I'm gonna stop now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and then it was if it was who I'm thinking of, it was then about building out the processes and the structure within that for her to then take herself out of more of the day-to-day. That was really where the wealth of her growth was going, not to getting more clients, but actually freeing herself. Yeah. Freeing herself from the chains of what she had created in her business. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And so funny because when we were m mapping out tangent, you know, we go on tangents. So when I was when we were mapping out this episode, um we had a bit of back and forth with the producer as well, because um Jacintra and I had different definitions of what we thought scaling, scaling was. So for me, when I think of scaling, I think of okay, 10x, uh franchising, global, like bigger.

SPEAKER_00

And for me, scaling means um making more money and growing more without using more resources, so without putting more team on and more hours in. And but isn't that just you and me in a nutshell? I went straight to the system, you went straight for the big idea. That is just our personality.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely. And so there was a bit of a bit of back and forth. We're like, what are you what's going on here? What are we talking about in this episode? You know, you know what? We're both right. Okay, sure. Always. Like we're both, we're both correct. And I think that the the gap between what you're talking about and what what I'm speaking about and into, like, that's kind of where people get lost in the middle because they've lost that connection with what they truly want. And it's one of the first things that we get all of our clients to do is to actually figure out what their true values are. Because if I asked you, if I asked anybody off the street now, like, what are your values? They'd list stuff off family and you know, um, like work and like all friends. But these are the things that we're taught as a society that we should value. And just because you should doesn't mean that that's actually the truth. And so there's a whole process, and if you're wanting to do this yourself, think about where you spend your top two resources, so your time and your money, and that's going to give you a really great insight into what you actually value.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and these are also things that we map out for people when they have their first initial practice plan call with us. So when people are starting to think about whether or not they work with us or not. So for those of you who are like, oh, I don't really know where I'm wanting to go, whether or not I can achieve the lifestyle that I actually want with my current business model, whether or not we need to expand that or shift it, then if you comment the word practice plan, then we are so happy to offer you a free call, which just gives you a bit of a breakdown as to okay, where are we at? Could we help you in your next evolution? What are some of the blocks that could be stopping you from getting there as well? So would love to offer that for any of the listeners who are kind of in that place of this sounds like me, but I don't really know what my next step is.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Um, so valuable, so valuable those calls. And absolutely, if where you're at, like we're not a good match, then we'll say no. And quite often, actually, just last week, we turned two people away because we're not the right fit for them, and we we pass them on to another another uh mentor who was aligned. Yeah. Yeah. So to wrap this up, the coaching world has told you that if you're not scaling big, then you are playing small. And we're calling absolute bullshit on that because having a quiet, sustainable, freedom giving practice is actually the real deal.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. So that is your permission to just bask in the thing that you have created and actually enjoy where you are at. That is our final takeaway for this episode, and we look forward to seeing you next week.
