The Vital Goddess
Reframing Resistance/ 4 Steps for Cultivating a Successful Jade Egg Practice
Jun 17, 2021
Season 2
Episode 3
Dianne Shepherd
In this episode, I delve into the topic of resistance. To be honest, I'm not crazy about the word.
When someone (teacher, coach, therapist, etc) tells me I'm in resistance or that I have resistance, it can feel like it's a problem, a pathology even.
There's a subtle but inherent shame and contraction around it. And I start to feel like I'm a problem to solve; that I need to be fixed. Not the best place to be for healing, empowerment, and learning new skills. Can you relate?
The more I learn about our amazing nervous systems, how we naturally respond to stress and trauma, and how those events and corresponding emotions can be stored in the body, the more I feel we need to level up the conversation on this theme. How we navigate "resistance" determines our success with any embodiment/transformative practice and ultimately determines the quality of our lives.
It's time for a reframe.
I riff on:
- why we need a reframe on this.
- my scope of practice/what is a trauma-aware coach?
- some programs and teachers that inform my coaching practice
- TRE Trauma Release Exercises
- what is resistance? a nervous system perspective
- why we need to celebrate resistance
- when it can become maladaptive
- why resistance makes sense
- how it shows up in a Jade Egg practice
- why you don’t have to get over your “stuff”
- an overly simplified explanation of the Poly Vagal Theory and how it applies to a Jade Egg practice
I also share...
Four steps to navigate "resistance" in a loving way
- Awareness (Polyvagal Map)
- Activate your Inner Queen ( a short and sweet breathwork practice)
- Get curious and meet it with love and compassion
- Microdose your practice to build power
As promised I’ve got some robust resources for you!
