The Coming Global False Revival
We are witnessing a growing number of spiritual movements in our time that are masquerading as authentic revivals, but seem to originate from a different spirit. Let’s examine how this spiritual deception sets the stage for the coming global false end-time revival and the worship of the Antichrist. Concerning The Times: Howard Green (00:10)
Hello friends. Welcome to Concerned at the Times. I'm Howard Green. So great to be with you today. And what we're going to talk about is the coming global false revival. So when I say the word revival, what do you think of?
What I think of are the great revivals that we've had in the past and in church history and certainly in recent Christian history and in ⁓ last couple of centuries. Revivals like ⁓ the first and the second great awakening. We think of people like Jonathan Edwards and others, George Whitefield, different people that came along in a time in history to refocus us on the word of God and on the holiness of God.
in what our job is to do in this, this rekindling this ignition of Holy fire inside of us to love the Lord, to love his word. Not only that, to reach other people. It's a renewal to personal holiness and corporate holiness. And, ⁓ so yeah, we got the first and second grade awakenings here in America and also simultaneously in, ⁓ great Britain and in central and Northern Europe. And then we also had the British evangelical revival. And we think about.
The times there and some of the great men that spoke and, I think in the past of people like DL Moody and others who rekindled a revival fire through the Holy Spirit, the hearts of men and women and young people and the UK and other places. And then of course we had the great Welsh revival of yesteryear. And here's the thing. When we talk about revival, it's such a, again, it's a term that's thrown around like a lot of other terms, but revival, true.
Biblical revival has always been predicated on a few different things. And here's what it is. It's marked by fervent prayer, intercessory prayer, fervent prayer before, during, and after these special times of refreshing. Certainly marked by intense times of fasting and seeking the Lord. Definitely marked by, always marked by biblical preaching. Biblical, powerful biblical preaching.
that's focused on the Word of God and focused on His holiness. And certainly, what are the outflows, what's the fruit, if you want to call it, like the Bible would call it, from some of these revivals? Actually, all of these revivals, it's always marked by personal renewal, holiness, and certainly repentance. If you read about every single one of these revivals, one of the major marks of these revivals was a renewal of personal holiness and repentance.
among individuals, groups and churches, and even wholesale many geographical areas and cities and towns and even countries for a time. Portions of the country was affected by renewed sense of loving your neighbor and renewed holiness and a call back to Christian morality. So when we think of the word revival, it's just something that comes in at an appointed time of the Lord's doing, and He comes in and will literally
bring the hearts of the people back to himself. And again, like I said, it's always marked by prayer, by biblical preaching, sound doctrine, fasting, and the result is always repentance and personal renewal and personal holiness.
Here's the other thing. When these revivals have come and gone over the years in history, who gets the glory? Are we focused on men? No, we did talk about people like Spurgeon and Moody and Whitfield and Jonathan Edwards and people like that. But isn't it interesting these men never sought the glory for themselves? They always pointed directly at the Lord Jesus. Don't focus on me. I'm just a messenger. Focus on him. And isn't that how it works?
It's true revival. God always gets the glory and that's the way it should be. Amen. Let's continue. Here's my concern and I've read many different articles and different books about this and know some great fellow Bible teachers, people in the past like like Dave Hunt, people currently like Roger Oakland and other people have warned about this type of thing consistently. And it's this that there is a global
false revival that's You think about it. do mean false revival? What does false revival look like? Well, I'll tell you, here's exactly what it is. We're going to talk about that for the next few minutes here on the video and the podcast, because I don't know if you've noticed, but we've had a lot of quote unquote revivals breaking out lately. Now, before we go any further, I want to differentiate between true and false revivals, but I also want to say this for the record. I'm not saying that every
so-called revival is inherently wrong because time is going to bear out all truth. You know what I mean? We say the cream rises to the top, right? Well, time will bear out all truth and as these revivals come and go, these so-called, sometimes self-named, self-promoted revivals, we'll see the fruit that comes from these things. Was the glory of the Lord's?
Did many people come to saving faith and repent? But we'll see, right? So I'm gonna withhold my judgment, but we are gonna talk about how to differentiate what is true revival from false revival. Recently, we've had so-called revivals break out at places like Asbury College here in the States, Auburn University, Florida State University, and actually so many other university campuses, I can't even name them all here during this video and podcast, but.
It's suffice it to say that many of these quote unquote revivals, on the surface, you read some of the articles, you do some of the research, you think, wow, you know, a lot of young people, you know, coming forward, gathering, singing, worshiping, okay. And understand my heart in this. It is my heart and my hope that many young people did and will continue to come to saving faith and repentance in our Lord Jesus. And that's a fact and that's what we should all hope for, right? But let me continue by saying this.
We have to employ Acts chapter 17 verse 11 and be Bereans. Remember the Bereans were noble Jews, more noble than others. When Paul came to speak, they searched the scriptures daily. Why do they do it? To see if these things were so. And that needs to be our attitude. We need to lovingly, diligently seek the scripture to see if what's being said and done at some of these
so-called revivals are biblically accurate if they line up with, not with my opinion, but with God's word. So again, like I said, time will bear out all truth and the fruit from these events and we'll see. But it's reminder, we have to examine scripture and we have to be discerning to see if what is being done and said in Jesus' is so. Because...
Here's the problem. We have in this day, in these last days, we have two spirits at work. We have the Holy Spirit of the Lord that's working in the world through God's people to bring people to saving faith, to woo people to himself. And we are out there being salt and light, full of the Holy Spirit, spreading God's word, making disciples and evangelizing. Amen? So there's the Spirit of the Lord, the Holy Spirit at work today, but there's also
the spirit of Antichrist that is alive and at work in the world today. Now, is the actual Antichrist here? Maybe, maybe he's somewhere behind the scenes now, ready to make his appearance very soon. We don't know, but I'll say this. I know that we're close to the Lord's coming, so all these things are happening so fast, but I can tell you right now, the spirit of Antichrist is here. So is the Holy Spirit is out doing his work for God's glory, for his glory and winning people to the Lord.
calling people back to himself. The spirit of Antichrist is out there corrupting people and pulling people away from the gospel, away from the Lord, away from personal holiness into some type of experience, a type of religious experience. Here's why it's so insidious. Because you know, Satan comes as an angel of light. And mark my words, he is the deceiver. He is an enemy. He's the enemy of every man
woman and child souls in this world. He's only got one job, friends. You know it and I know it. So, steal, kill and destroy. So, how does this work in the context of true and false revival? Well, very simple. Whereas we've had true revivals in the past where you could see times of renewal and refreshing and renewed holiness and repentance. Satan's also out there trying to counterfeit what is true.
and make what is false appear true. This is a deception. Oh, we have revival breaking out. Like I said, some of these revivals may be legitimate. Time will bear that out. But the thing is, is it seems like as we get closer to the Lord's return, I'm seeing more and more of these things pop up and you start to do your due diligence and look into these. Like I said, using Acts chapter 17, 11 and being a Berean and seeing, well, you know, there's a lot.
People getting excited here.
But where's the follow-up? Where's the soul winning? Where's the discipling? We're in mass because of all these people are coming by the thousands and even tens of thousands in mass and just supposedly getting revived and having this great revival and coming to the Lord. Where's the fruit? I see a lot of excitement. I see a pep rally with spiritual platitudes, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of what we would expect from a traditional revival, the great revivals of the past. Let's continue.
Some revivals, some, excuse me, some false revivals are easy to discern. I'm going to give you a few personal examples from what I've seen in the past. I'm going to talk about Lakeland, Florida, 1993. All right.
It was unbelievable. Um, I went to Carpenter's home church, um, one night in 1993, I heard about this great revival that have come to town and that came to town in Lakeland and boy, they were just filling up the Carpenter's home church, which is a, at the time, a, a great in size, a huge church that seated, I believe up to about 10,000 people, a lot of contracts to come through there and different people will come through there. Well,
We had this one preacher come through town, an evangelist from South Africa, Rodney Howard Brown. He came to Lakeland and, okay, I'm going see what this is all about. There was a lot of excitement and a lot of hype. I'm like, well, okay, let's go check it out. And I was a really young man. I'm not super new in the faith. I was in Bible college. Of course, I was curious. Went to the church one night when this quote unquote revival first started. And let me tell you, the worship service started. Okay. A lot of...
A lot of hype, a lot of excitement, sort of a lot of emotion. And then the evangelist came out, Rodney came out and.
spoke for a few minutes and before I know it, I mean, I'm talking within minutes, he starts kind of posting up like this. And if you're listening by podcast, he kind of had his arms folded and he would kind of cock his head to the side and start staring at people and the people in front of him. And I'll never forget this. They started laughing, chuckling, and then a whole hearted just belly laughs and just heaving and moaning and these deep belly laughs. And he would post up in front of different people and they would start laughing and shrieking and just
busting out and started falling on the floor and rolling around and he would do this to tens, dozens, even maybe hundreds of people. And I remember seeing this from one of the upper parts of the deck there, the balcony and thinking, this is not of the Lord. This is weird. And he was out there, you know, just calling himself the Holy Ghost bartender and, you know, new wine and just people were falling and laughing and
And friends, I'm here to tell you because I was there and I can tell you firsthand that this was not the spirit of the Lord that was falling on that place. This was the spirit of anti-Christ, the spirit of deception and
There was no soul winning going on. There was no repentance going on. This was an emotional high, albeit coming from the deceiver of our souls. We take people's attention away from the true and living God, put it on this man and put it on Satan. It was all done in Jesus' name. It was all done under the guise of this is the Holy Spirit being poured out. No, it was a different spirit being poured out. I saw it with my own two eyes. Let's continue. We have the quote unquote great Brownsville
Or if you're not from Florida, Pensacola, a revival that broke out in 1995, it was another circus, another absolute religious sideshow where people would get baptized. They would moan, they would hiss, they would bark like dogs. One person would get baptized. There's actual footage of this. You can check it out for yourself in 1995 Brownsville slash Pensacola revival. And people would bark, moan, hiss, roll around in the ground and
people go to get baptized and the person that was getting baptized would be shaking, convulsing. mean, no control. I think the glory of God is so strong up here. My body just can't really take it. And that's why I'm doing this. There's other times whenever I come into God's presence and I don't move at all, but inside me, it's like there's just waves of God inside of me. And then there's other times.
whenever I'm interceding and it's not painful to my body but it's painful to my heart because I know that God loves people so much and he's in a hurry. He wants everyone. There's not much more time.
He aches and he grieves for his parents. He grieves for you.
You think of peace, love and a sound mind, right? We talked about the Holy Spirit. No, this was not a sound mind and this was not order or control. These people were uncontrollable, convulsing. They would start shaking and they would literally, the person that was baptizing them, the person would come out of the water convulsing and the person that had their hands in them would start convulsing. Friends, this was not from the Holy Spirit. Again, it was from the deceiver, the counterfeit Holy Spirit, the spirit of Antichrist, it was satanic.
So got Lakeland 93, Pensacola 95, and again in Lakeland in 2008. I wasn't living in Lakeland at time. I was another part of the country. Actually interesting about this, there was an evangelist that came to town in Lakeland again, another evangelist come to Lakeland. name was Todd Bentley. Now you can do your own research on Todd, a time permit with the podcast to go into all of it today, but spicy to say this was the quote unquote
great Lakeland revival of 2008. And man, people were coming by the tens of thousands and, and God TV was there and other, other large Christian networks that acted, ⁓ did specials on this. And man, they just wanted to see what was happening in Lakeland. It got so big. It started at Ignite church, which was a subsidiary or a spin-off from Carpenter's Home Church. And it got so popular that they had actually moved it to the Lakeland Civic Center. ⁓ there was probably 12, 15,000 people there at night. ⁓ well, Todd Bentley would come out.
And the thing about this guy is, is he would just make the most preposterous statements and he would talk about kicking old ladies in the, in the, in the face. And the Lord told him to do this and that. he had some, some angel named Emma that was appearing to him and weird stuff rolling around on stage and screaming and I'll show you the video.
when an angel appeared to him in his hotel room. was praying in the afternoon, the second day, and I just had an unusual sense that I was going to have an encounter with the Lord. I was like, God's going to visit me here. And sure enough, I had an angelic encounter. And it was very real. And it was revival. You know, this doesn't just happen just in any old meeting and conference. And this was very significant. God wanted to get my attention.
He spoke to me that there was going to be an outpouring of signs and wonders. didn't know what form it was going to take, how long, but I knew by the fact that, the angel of Lord is here. This is...
you
But what's the point of all this? Things are being done under the guise of revival and being done under the guise of the Holy Spirit's being poured out. The friends that are not, that is not the Holy Spirit. Now that, these type of Christian, excuse me, religious side shows are easy to spot. You can say, no, that's not of the Lord. But here's the problem. You add a little emotion, you add some beautiful sounding songs and the music and the lighting, and people get deceived by this stuff.
It is spiritual deception from the pit of hell. But let's continue.
When I think about this, I think about all the rolling around, screaming, running, hissing, shrieking, convulsions, slaying the spirit, things that are not in the Bible, but are readily available at places like Lakeland, Reading, Toronto, and other places.
It's not in the Bible, but it is so common. I still believe in the gifts of the Spirit.
Not that. That's just weirdness. And more than that, it's demonic. It's a different spirit, deceiving spirit. I don't condone the nonsense. Moaning, barking, miracles in demand, running around. But God is working through his spirit, through his people, for his purpose and his glory. Amen.
Jesus gave many signs of his return. You can name them, go to Matthew 24, Luke 20, all of that discourse, Wars and rumors of wars, you're thinking of birth pains. Wars and rumors of wars, pestilence, famine, earthquakes, but he warns, Jesus warns about deception at least three times that I counted Matthew 24, at least three times. So mentions all the other things once, but spiritual deception three times.
It's much like when he said in Revelation, it was said, Whoa, whoa, whoa. It's like your ears perk up the first time, but the third time you're like, what is the Lord trying to say? Many deceivers will come. Many will come in my name and leave many astray. That's the key in his name. Be careful just because someone says it's revival, just because someone says they're a Christian doesn't mean it. So remember in the last days, the Lord comes back to say,
Many people are going to say, Lord, Lord, did we not do this? Did we not heal? Did we not speak and do this in your name? He's going to say, depart from me. Never knew you.
So we know that some false revivals are easy to spot, but other ones are not so easy. What do I mean by that? You think about it. Some of what's happening now under the name of revival. Now, again, like I said, I'm withholding judgment because some of these, maybe a few might actually be a time of refreshing and revival time will tell, but more often than not, what I'm seeing, I don't see any fruit from most of these movements that are going on, but we'll see.
Some false revivals may look like this. They might be some of the pop-up. Think about this, the pop-up spontaneous or mass baptisms that are so popular in all the rage right now. I mean, mass baptisms. Well, we baptized 5,000 people, 10,000 people all came together and got baptized. Well, wonderful. But how many people have actually come to saving faith and repentance in Jesus' name? How many people? Do you know?
There was a lot of excitement, a lot of tears, a lot of crying, a lot of t-shirts, a lot of hugging. Maybe. I know that Lord's word, I know the Bible, the word of God, excuse me, does not return void. Maybe some people were actually saved. Maybe some people did come to saving faith and praise God for that. But friends, by and large, if you look at these events, where's the massive outpouring of people going into their communities and winning souls for Jesus and just...
out making an impact for the Lord and just going to missionary work wholesale or getting into the ministry and just you see that the Lord's work going forth that was the result in the the Outflow of what happened in the great revivals in the past. I just don't see it. I'm sorry. I don't see it Baptisms are awesome But if it's all motion and no fruit all people are doing is following the party into the water and getting wet coming back out unsaved and unchanged
You think about these big worship movements that are happening. You know, we have these big worship events that are happening in stadiums out West and out East here, here in the Midwest and these great, whoa, this is this country in this place. So many people come to the stadium to hear so and so speak and always a massive revival. But you can see the hype of the moment. We got these big churches and they're calling this revival and these big movements are, calling it revival. And so many people came and responded. What are we responding to? We're friends.
You got picture this, you got professional worshipers up there with you got the lights and you got the beat drop and you got the spotlights to come at just the right time. And man, they're singing these sweet and sappy words. And one great preacher named David Hawking, a lot of you probably know him, used to call it this. He actually called it this not too long ago, 7-11 worship. The same seven words sung 11 times. And I thought that was spot on.
Sure, you get a response. People are just raising their arms and the tears are flowing, but many people go away unchanged and unsaved.
the proofs in the pudding and the fruit as it were. Emotional responses and their repentance. Again, what does this have to do with the coming false global revival? has everything to do with it because we're rapidly approaching a time when Antichrist and the false prophet will deceive hundreds of millions and perhaps billions into worshiping him. Now, during this podcast and video, I love the rapture. I can't wait for the rapture. I know it's coming.
But I'm not going to get into rapture timing today. It's going to take away from what we're trying to accomplish here. And I don't want to do that. But here, suffice it to say, we're moving towards a massive spiritual deception and global false revival. And here's my question. I want you to think about this. If people right now, right at this time, especially many Christians are duped by false revivals and spiritual deceivers now, how are they going to discern the truth?
when the deception and the lie will be so believable and it'll be underscored by many signs and wonders, albeit lying signs and wonders. Jesus said it. He said Matthew 24, 24. He talked about it. Deception, I want to paraphrase, will be so prevalent and be so believable that if possible, even the very elect will be deceived. Friends, there is massive deception coming. It'll be coming in the name of peace, in the name of love, in the name of unity, in the name of
Christian love and other religions getting together and just having one big ecumenical love fest friends. It is satanic and it's alive in the pit of hell. How about this? Second Thessalonians 2 9 talk about people being deceived. I'll read that to you real quick. Second Thessalonians 2 9 the coming of the lawless one, the antichrist is according to the working of Satan with all power signs and lying wonders and with all unrighteous deception. Can you imagine?
how bad things have to be or people will be deceived wholesale. It's gonna be a terrible thing. It'll be terrible. The world stage is being set right now for a global false revival and spiritual deception and mass that'll unite religions and all peoples under one false savior. What do mean unite all religions? I'm telling you certainly, you think it's not happening now? It's starting to happen. For the undiscerning, I'm gonna tell people
You look out there in the world, it is happening and many quote unquote Christians are buying into this nonsense. It's dangerous.
Look what Pope Francis, now know he passed away recently, but look what he said just not too long ago. He said, and I'm quoting, all religions are a pathway to God. Well, friends, that is deception. It's not true. He's not telling you the truth because all religions do not lead to God. They're not a pathway to God. Because Jesus said, I'm the way, and John 14, I'm the way, the truth and the life. But all these other religions say, no, you work, you do this, you do that.
You work your way to heaven. We have a path. He's he may be he may be a path that we're a path to know Jesus said I'm the only path I'm the only way I'm the door You think about it. It's so deceptive. It sounds so loving boy. All religions are a pathway to God. No, they're not It's a lie
Satan comes like an angel of light, doesn't he? But let's continue. How about Rick Warren? The great purpose-driven lie pastor. Famous man. He has got himself pushed into so many churches right now. So much of what's motivating the church has been driven by him lately. Not the real church, not the remnant church, but the false church. People are being deceived, friends. Rick Warren said this. He said, 1.5 billion Christians and 1.5 billion Muslims must
It's been made to believe that we should live in peace and harmony. Well, do I believe that Christians should be peaceful people? Absolutely. As far as it is to me to be at peace with all men, right? But he's talking about Christians and Muslims working together on the common good, on goals. Well, friends, as a believer, as a Christian, the only goal I have is to go into all the world and to make disciples not bring ecumenical understanding.
or somehow work on common goals. I love Muslims, I really do. And I want them to come to saving faith in Jesus. But I don't have any common goals to somehow come to some sort of understanding and some type of work together with Muslims for the common good. There is no common good except to bring people to Jesus. I humbly ask this in the name of the one who changed my life, Yeshua, Isa, Jesus, Jesus, who taught us to pray.
complete nonsense. So can you imagine we have this type of ecumenism going on? What's gonna happen when Antichrist comes under the guise of this great end time revival and outpouring of power and ecumenical following? And we got the false prophet that's gonna perform great lying signs and wonders. The Bible says by all the activity of Satan, that's how it's gonna come and it's gonna be through.
Will there be powerful soul stirring music? Well, can you imagine the worship and the power and and this, the soul stirring music that people are to come in mass. We've got a great peacemaker here. This man is awesome because we're not going to know that people aren't going to know him as the antichrist. He's going to be this great world leader bringing this wonderful spiritual movement of worship and we're all getting along so well. And this piece is coming. No, it's not. It is short lived. So will there be soul stirring powerful music? Maybe. But one thing is for certain and it's this.
Billions of people will be so moved to worship they're gonna say this and this is right out of Revelation They will say who is like the beast and who can fight him? It sounds worshipful doesn't it? Who is like the beast and who can worship him? I'm sorry who can fight against him? Who is like the beast and who can fight against him? That sounds like worship to me It sounds like a wholesale revival of people just a false revival by the way people coming together and just just
adoring this this this man that is that is basically remote control Satan The club the coming global false revival will begin with peace miracles and worship It's gonna last a few years, but you know where this revival ends That global end times false revival ends at the lake of fire
Friends, have to warn people. If people are getting caught up in this nonsense now, these false revivals, how are they gonna discern with all lying signs and wonders? People are gonna be deceived en masse. Bible says that God's gonna send a strong delusion that those who refuse to love the truth are gonna believe a lie. It's terrible. It's coming. We gotta warn people. So, how do we prepare?
As Christians, as believers, how do we prepare? Well, Paul gives the answer in 2 Thessalonians 2, 10 through 12. 2 Thessalonians 2, 10 through 12, and I'll read that to you here real quick. I can find my place. The coming of the lawless one is according to the power and working of Satan with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish because they did not receive the love of the truth that they might be saved.
And for this reason, God will send them a strong delusion that they should believe the lie, that they may be condemned because they didn't believe the truth and had pleasure and unrighteousness.
So, Paul gives the answer. How do we prepare? We, right now, we love the truth. We study the truth. We live for the truth.
We have to read our Bible. We have to pray. We have to be discerning. We have to understand the times we live in. Jesus said, how can you discern the seasons and you cannot discern the signs of the times? It's amazing to me that all these things are happening in the world economically, geopolitically, spiritually, spiritual mass deception starting to creep in, apostasy starting to break out in different places. And a lot of quote unquote Christians have their heads buried in the sand like everything is great.
Friends, everything is not great. Now, speaking of revival, where does revival start? Revival starts in the heart of every true remnant believer who puts the Lord first and loves him and loves his word. I want to recommend two resources for you here real quick. One of them is a great book by Leonard Ravenhill and it's called, I'll try to hold it up for you. Leonard Ravenhill, Why Revival Tarries. It's an excellent book. Why Revival Tarries. And then we have another one by one of my favorite preachers,
and writers A.W. Tozer and it's called Fiery Faith. Wonderful book. Fiery Faith and it's called Ignite Your Passion for God. So revival starts in the heart of every believer that longs to live for him, longs to see him glorified and longs to see his appearing, amen. That's revival always starts. If we're gonna see true revival in this land, in different places, we're gonna have to get back to prayer.
We're gonna have to get back to fasting, intercession, and certainly the results will be repentance and renewed faith among people. Amen. We gotta be ready. We gotta be alert. We have to be discerning because this great end time false revival is coming. And I think because we see so many false revivals happening now, we're making a crescendo towards that moment.
Remember what Jesus said. Here's the ultimate litmus test and the ultimate way we show ourselves to be ready for whatever comes and be grounded and rooted in His word. Jesus said, sanctify them in the truth. Then He said, thy word is truth. Here it is. This is our benchmark. This is our denominator. This is our litmus test. Friends, we have to be rooted and grounded in the word. Amen. Thanks for joining us today.
I want you to think as you look at each quote unquote spiritual movement and revival that comes along in our nation and the world, be discerning because not everything that's supposed to be of God, it looks like it's from God, is of God, amen? Worn people, get out there. It's not just enough to know this knowledge and know this and all that's false and that's a apostasy. Get out there and warn people. Expose these type of things, amen?
