at the midpoint of the tribulation. 00:06:50.319 --> 00:06:59.360 So 3.5 years in, and with 3.5 years to go within the trip the tribulation will be the abomination of desolation. 00:06:59.600 --> underline, highlight, circle the word that. 00:07:34.720 --> 00:07:49.680 Because after that tribulation, not after the tribulation, he's saying, after that tribulation, and that's referring back to exact same thing in chapter 13, verses 9 through 13, and I want to read it to you because it gives us some great detail. 00:08:39.919 --> 00:08:44.639 Indeed, the stars of the sky and its foundations at the wrath of the Lord of armies on the day of his burning anger. 00:09:18.799 --> 00:09:33.279 And then we see that Jesus already said back in this same chapter in verse 19, for those will be days of tribulation, the kind that hasn't been from the beginning of creation until now and never will be again. 00:09:33.679 --> 00:09:39.200 You know, and as we read these verses, that's a lot of doom and gloom that we just kind of covered there. 00:09:39.360 --> 00:09:45.200 But I want us to remember as followers of Christ that we are not appointed to wrath. 00:09:45.519 --> 00:09:49.519 Jesus took the wrath of God for us already. 00:09:49.759 --> 00:09:51.759 That's why he came. 00:09:52.000 --> 00:09:58.320 And that's one of the reasons that, as I mentioned last week, that I believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. 00:09:58.480 --> 00:10:09.759 I believe and I take comfort in that if we're a follower of Christ, that we don't have to worry about those verses that we just read because we're already going to be taken up with Christ. 00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:19.679 But the point of verse 24 and 25 is that things are going to get really bad, especially in the second half of the tribulation. 00:10:19.919 --> 00:10:22.080 Let's look at verse 26 now. 00:10:22.480 --> 00:10:28.480 It says, Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 00:10:28.720 --> 00:10:33.120 So this is Jesus' second coming that we're talking about at this point. 00:10:33.279 --> 00:10:34.879 This is him glorified. 00:10:35.039 --> 00:10:40.559 You know, we've seen him all through Mark coming as the lamb that was going to be led to the slaughter. 00:10:40.799 --> 00:10:53.840 And now we get a picture of him coming as a lion with eyes like fire and with like a sword coming out of his mouth, and the armies of heaven behind him on white horses wearing white linen. 00:10:54.080 --> 00:10:58.480 You know, the prophet Daniel gives us a bit more detail here as well. 00:10:58.639 --> 00:11:06.559 And he says in chapter 7, verses 13 and 14, and suddenly one like a son of man was coming with the clouds of heaven. 00:11:06.720 --> 00:11:10.639 He approached the ancient of days and was escorted before him. 00:11:10.799 --> 00:11:18.639 He was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, so that those of every people, nation, and language should serve him. 00:11:19.039 --> 00:11:27.200 His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed. 00:11:27.440 --> 00:11:34.799 You know, there's something about when we read those verses about reading about Jesus establishing his kingdom. 00:11:35.840 --> 00:11:37.759 That gets me really excited. 00:11:38.000 --> 00:11:51.600 You know, just to read about, okay, this is when He He comes and He establishes just all of these things, and He takes away just all of the horrible things that we experience on a daily basis, and those things are gonna get worse. 00:11:51.759 --> 00:12:01.120 But it's just when we read about Jesus coming back and establishing his kingdom, I think that should generate some a good amount of excitement in us to actually see that day coming. 00:12:01.360 --> 00:12:03.360 Look at verse 27 with me. 00:12:03.600 --> 00:12:12.559 It says, He will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. 00:12:12.799 --> 00:12:21.039 So last week we talked about how context showed us that the elect that were fleeing from Judea were Jews. 00:12:21.440 --> 00:12:25.919 But here the definition of elect seems to have broadened a bit. 00:12:26.080 --> 00:12:34.480 From those Jews that recognized Jesus as their Messiah to all that have ever recognized Jesus as their Messiah. 00:12:34.639 --> 00:12:41.840 Because it talks about the elect being gathered, not only from the ends of the earth this time, but the ends of heaven as well. 00:12:42.159 --> example here, it will be as obvious when these things are going to come to pass. 00:13:46.240 --> 00:13:55.440 As we talked about last week, Daniel 9 says that the abomination of desolation will take place at the midpoint of the tribulation, 3.5 years. 00:13:55.679 --> 00:14:01.600 And it tells us specifically in Revelation that that's 1,260 days to be exact. 00:14:03.360 --> 00:14:19.840 And what that means is for those that know the Word of God that are still on the earth, that have a Bible and are reading it, that are still on the earth during the tribulation, that they're going to be able to calculate to the day from the abomination of desolation to Jesus' second coming. 00:14:20.960 --> 00:14:25.200 So definitely we can know the times and the seasons. 00:14:25.919 --> 00:14:31.039 But I want to point something out here specifically about the fig tree. 00:14:31.200 --> 00:14:37.440 And this is one of those things that many people disagree on, and I'm just going to be giving you my opinion at this point. 00:14:37.759 --> 00:14:43.279 But I want you to go home and search this stuff on your own and not just believe me. 00:14:43.440 --> 00:14:48.960 But my opinion is that the fig tree is symbolically talking about Israel right here. 00:14:49.200 --> 00:14:56.639 Now, I know it's been weeks since we covered the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree and then the fig tree withering away. 00:14:56.960 --> 00:14:58.799 But that was weeks for us. 00:14:58.879 --> 00:15:07.360 But this is the same day for Jesus and his disciples, from the time they found the fig tree withered to this teaching that he's giving the disciples right here. 00:15:07.519 --> 00:15:11.200 So on that day, they were headed into Jerusalem. 00:15:11.440 --> 00:15:15.279 They saw the withered fig tree, and the disciples were amazed. 00:15:15.360 --> 00:15:16.879 They went into the temple. 00:15:17.200 --> 00:15:19.919 Jesus was tested by the religious leaders. 00:15:20.240 --> 00:15:24.399 He points out the widow giving and how to properly give. 00:15:25.039 --> 00:15:32.559 And then they leave, and the disciples point out the beauty of the temple to Jesus, and they recognize that, and he talks about that. 00:15:32.799 --> 00:15:34.960 Then they head to the Mount of Olives. 00:15:35.120 --> 00:15:39.039 The disciples ask about, you know, when will all this stuff take place? 00:15:39.120 --> 00:15:40.399 And Jesus starts teaching. 00:15:40.559 --> 00:15:43.200 And that's still the teaching that we're in right now. 00:15:43.440 --> 00:15:49.279 So that very morning, the disciples had just seen the fig tree withered. 00:15:49.440 --> 00:15:54.320 So the fig tree is still very much fresh and alive in their minds. 00:15:54.960 --> 00:15:57.279 And here Jesus brings it up again. 00:15:57.519 --> 00:16:09.360 And again, you can disagree with me, but I think when Jesus cursed the fig tree, that it was a foreshadowing of Israel's end in 70 AD, when the Romans came in and destroyed everything. 00:16:09.600 --> 00:16:16.159 And I think this mention here is of Israel coming back to be a nation in 1948. 00:16:16.399 --> 00:16:26.559 When you see the fig tree start to come out of its dormancy, Israel, when you see it come back to life, know that the end is near. 00:16:26.799 --> 00:16:30.879 And we're going to get into that a little bit more as we move into verse 30 00:16:40.799 --> 00:16:49.440 So don't be confused by this and think that Jesus is talking to his disciples specifically right here, that they, that their generation won't pass away. 00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:59.840 And we know it's not that because his disciples all died, and the horrible things that we see happening in the last three and a half years of the tribulation still haven't happened to 00:17:13.920 I believe that when it says this generation, that it's tied into Israel and it becoming a nation once again in 1948. 00:17:14.160 --> 00:17:16.799 So a little backstory, a little history here. 00:17:17.119 --> 00:17:29.359 Pre-1948, there was a lot of theologians that tried to understand the abomination of desolation without Israel being a nation, without there being a temple in Israel. 00:17:30.160 --> 00:17:39.119 And they tried to fit the abomination of desolation into the at the midpoint of the tribulation, into the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. 00:17:39.200 --> 00:17:43.519 And they tried to see if they could make all of that work and make sense of it. 00:17:45.359 --> 00:17:52.400 They tried to, or they believed that it had to have happened during that time because they couldn't make sense of anything else. 00:17:52.640 --> 00:17:59.680 Because if it didn't, then how would these things come to pass that we're reading in Scripture if Israel wasn't a nation? 00:17:59.759 --> 00:18:03.119 And if there wasn't a temple in which all of this could take place in. 00:18:03.279 --> 00:18:10.240 And they claim that a lot of those things that we just covered, that we needed to read those things metaphorically. 00:18:10.559 --> 00:18:20.000 But history doesn't have anything close to the abomination of desolation taking place between Jesus' words and the temple being destroyed. 00:18:20.319 --> 00:18:25.440 So there are two ways that we can look at this verse and kind of interpret it. 00:18:25.680 --> 00:18:33.359 First, that the generation that sees all of these things that Jesus has been teaching come to pass will not pass away. 00:18:33.839 --> 00:18:40.000 So the first way we could read it is the generation that sees Israel come into being will not pass. 00:18:40.240 --> 00:18:44.400 You know, which then begs the question, how long is a biblical generation? 00:18:44.640 --> 00:18:53.599 You know, and that's really hard to pin down because you'll hear people say, well, it's 30 years, and then you'll hear other people say, well, it's 80 years, and you'll hear other people say, well, it's a hundred years. 00:18:53.839 --> 00:19:01.440 And it doesn't make this explanation wrong, it's just that it's really hard to calculate and pin down exactly what a generation is. 00:19:01.759 --> 00:19:05.680 And we don't know exactly when to start the clock in that regard. 00:19:05.839 --> 00:19:18.079 Was it 1948 when Israel first became a nation, or was it 1967 during the Six-Day War when they actually took old Jerusalem back, which is where all the temple property was? 00:19:18.319 --> 00:19:20.640 So that's the first way that we can look at this. 00:19:20.799 --> 00:19:32.960 Now, the second way that we can look at this verse is in reference, uh, in reference to the fig tree, is that the word generation in the Greek has two meanings, unlike our English word for generation. 00:19:33.119 --> 00:19:37.839 Now, in the Greek, it can also mean a race of people or a nation. 00:19:38.079 --> 00:19:44.400 As it says in the Greek definition of the word, men of the same stock, a family. 00:19:44.799 --> 00:19:54.480 So it could read, This nation or race of people will certainly not pass away until all of these things take place. 00:19:55.279 --> 00:20:01.599 Meaning that the Jews would never go away, even if they didn't have a country. 00:20:02.160 --> 00:20:11.200 That they as a race would be around until the very end of time, that they would not pass away until all of these things take place. 00:20:11.440 as a nation, and this is a sign of the nearness of the second coming of Jesus Christ. 00:20:36.880 --> 00:20:44.880 So Israel becoming a nation, if you're not familiar with it and all that took place, it was really nothing short of a miracle. 00:20:45.200 --> 00:20:54.240 No other race or nation has ever gone 1900 years without a country and then come back together to form a country again. 00:20:54.559 --> 00:21:04.880 If a race doesn't have a country, then typically they just meld into other cultures and other countries and eventually they use they lose their identity and they lose persecutions through history, and it's truly a miracle that they survived for 1900 years without a home country, and then in 1948 came back together and formed that country again. 00:21:27.200 -->
