The Wicker Man & The Devils (with Alasdair Bayman)
Making his Season Two debut, returning champion Alasdair Bayman has programmed two British classics:
Robin Hardy's hugely influential The Wicker Man (1973) is something of an urtext for the genre now known as "folk-horror". An unlikely mix of mystery, pagan lore and catchy songs - The Wicker Man has spawned many imitators, but nothing quite lives up to Hardy's original.
Since its release, Ken Russell's The Devils (1971), has been censored, banned and maligned. Over the years, there has been a steady reclamation of Russell's manic vision, which is now rightly recongisned an ascendant study of the abuse of power.
