In this episode, I interview Cindy Rodriguez, a second-generation Latina woman living in Southern California. Her family stories chronicle the lives of Mexican immigrants who worked at the Simons Brickyard in Los Angeles, CA. She feels a sense of connection with the poverty-stricken teens in rural Kenya, as they were both given a second chance at life through education and empowerment.

Cindy started the nonprofit organization, Elimu Girls, a 501(c)(3), that empowers rural Kenyan teens to become entrepreneurs, ensuring financial freedom, self-worth, and equality. Upon graduation from our 2 year sewing and boarding program, she will have a voice, a choice, and a bank account.
