Speaker 1:

One day I was like, ah, i've not even thought about that for a few seconds. And the next day was a few more seconds, and what I was doing was replacing the negative with something positive. Like it was an hour networking. I knew I couldn't come onto the networking event as the negative because I want to be able to attract people to speak to me, and so for that, one hour was full positivity, but I mean one hour less of being negative. And so I was like, okay, well, i'll go to three networking events, three hours of positivity.

Speaker 2:

Hello, i'm your host, aveline Clark, and this is the Six Star Business Podcast, where we have conversations with amazing, incredible people, all about what it takes to be Six Star going beyond the status quo, doing things differently, and how they bring purpose, love and impact into their businesses every day. And in this episode, i had the pleasure of spending an hour or so with my new friend, bobby Semple. Bobby has overcome so many obstacles and he has this brilliant way of seeing things in a different way, literally teaching his mind how to flip a really bad negative into a positive and how to create that change in his life, in his business life, in his personal life. He's got a really interesting story fascinating, actually, would make for a really great book and he brings it all into this conversation. I had such fun with him, i learned a lot from him and he's very inspiring. Naturally, he's a super humble guy and, yeah, i know you're going to love it. This is Bobby Semple. So here we are.

Speaker 2:

I am very, very excited I've got my new friend, bobby Semple, here with me for the Six Star podcast. How are you doing, Bobby? I'm good. How are you? I'm really well today. Thank you, it's just the two of us. I don't have a co-host. I feel quite lucky in that, you know it's just the two of us, because sometimes I do have a co-host, and it just worked out today that it was just you and me, and that's good, because it means that I get to take all of your attention.

Speaker 1:

So we need, we only need me and you.

Speaker 2:

That's it, that's it, that's it. So let's get started. I am really looking forward to hearing from you. I know a little bit about your background, but let's get started with some questions to let our audience know more about you. So could you tell us where you are in the world?

Speaker 1:

Yep, i am in a little place called Bryby Island. It's just off, about an hour north of Brisbane in Queensland, australia. So, originally from the UK, i was born in Manchester and raised in a place called Wolverhampton, which is just near Birmingham for anyone who doesn't know the UK as well as that, and I've been in Australia for about 12 years and became an Australian citizen this year on Australia Day. Congratulations, thank you. It's a great country to be in and I'm really proud and honoured to be part of it. And it's interesting that not many people go through becoming a citizen of a country And I honestly think that we should all do it, even if it's your own country, and you should have to go through it because it makes you understand the country more.

Speaker 1:

Like we, have to do a test, do a little test and you learn so much about the country and the history. And there's a thing in Australia called Mateship which I didn't know about until I came and go through this process, and Mateship is a really cool thing to be part of And it's all about helping someone else in need, and when the whole country talks about it, i get goosebumps about it because you don't hear about it anywhere else, and so having to go through that process really makes you feel like you belong somewhere. And even though I'll always live in the UK, this is my home, and one of the questions I get asked is I pay lawn bowls And who would I pay for if I became an international superstar? Am I going to pay for England or am I going to pay for Australia? The weather's better here, so I'm going to pay in Australia.

Speaker 2:

I've never heard of Mateship and I completely agree. I mean, I think what you went through to become a citizen why isn't it that every person goes through that at some point, maybe as part of their schooling or something, to ensure that everyone goes through it? I mean, it makes sense.

Speaker 1:

Have a look at it, have a Google of Mateship. It's pretty impressive And we did it on a special day. I know a lot of people have different, conflicting thoughts about Australia Day, but to be in a room full of 150 people going through we knew the history of Australia and having to stand there and sing the national anthem but with a meaningful national anthem, not just a sports event or something made me really proud to be able to sing those words and to be able to provide my skills and services to this country and to the people of this country, and it makes you want to do better. And I think having that national anthem and feeling that passion, you can take that into everyday life and that's what can really get you through really hard times. And that's when we talk about Mateship. And so everything around the Aussie is about that And you can see that when you walk down the street.

Speaker 1:

I've lived in a lot of places around the world and especially in Queensland. It's the most friendliest place. Walking down the street, people are going to say hello, how are you doing? And once you start a conversation, sometimes you can end up at a barbecue on Sunday with someone who you just met walking across a bridge or something like that. You can't get that in London. If you were to speak to somebody on the tube, you probably get arrested. This guy's attacking me or something like that and just talking about the football or whatever.

Speaker 1:

I've been on the train here and it was in Melbourne and it was around Grand Final Week, so there was a lot of sports going on and Aussies are sports mad And there was a report on the back of the newspaper and I was like oh no, i didn't realise they were going to play in the Grand Final And all of a sudden that person then just had a full conversation about the whole history of Hawthorne Football Club And that's kind of like if that was the UK you would be running away from that person, because it doesn't happen like that. And so Mateship is very special and very unique to this country. So anyone who's watching you're not sure what it is. Google it And you have that in your ethos when you're talking to people and makes life a lot easier.

Speaker 2:

I love that. What a great story and intro to this podcast, especially being six-star And we'll get more into six-star but I already feel warm and fuzzy just hearing that And it makes me feel really proud actually to be an Australian. It really does, And I have to agree we are a friendly bunch of people. You are, You can talk to people.

Speaker 1:

And you're also very unique. There's only 25 million. There's only 25 million Aussies. It's not a lot. And then we put this into perspective right In the UK. There's a freeway or motorway in the UK called the M25. And that goes around to Norbert Hall. It goes around the outskirts of London. It's massive. It takes about four, five hours to go around it, but there's 25 million people who work inside that little circle Monday to Friday, nine to five. 25 million people work inside a small circle of London And you only have 25 million people in all of Australia The elderly, kids. It's massive. We forget how big this country is and we forget how many minimal people we have in this country compared to a lot of other countries. So be proud to be Aussie because there's not many of them around, or others because I can say that now, because I'm Australian, And be proud and be honoured by that because there's not many of you guys around.

Speaker 2:

I've never thought like that before. Thank you, Bobby. I love new perspectives, Love it All right. I'd love to hear from you And if you can tell me and the audience, what is it that you do So? who do you serve and how do you serve them?

Speaker 1:

So it's small business and really you know small to medium businesses And really the story all started from about 15 years ago And one of my businesses I have is a recruitment business And I fell into recruitment by chance. I was a temp, but in the UK I was doing temp work for Virgin Atlantic And Virgin Atlantic turned around to me and wanted me to go and work for them permanently And I was like I was going through a stage in my life where I'd just been to. I lived in Ibiza for four years, i was a DJ over there And it was like I should really grow up. Virgin seemed like a really good option, a stable company. They liked what I did And I thought I could grow in that company And so I spoke to the recruitment agency that I was temping through and they turned around and said, hey, don't go and work for them, come and work for us. And I thought, oh, i wouldn't mind seeing what recruitment is like. And so I ended up being given like the administration for that recruitment company And then within about six months I moved away from the admin stuff to the temp desk And so I was providing temporary staff to that town.

Speaker 1:

One of the clients was Virgin, and because I already knew them, it was very easy to move across. And so I started to really get a feel for finding candidates. And the best thing about recruitment is that call. When you call a candidate up and say, hey, you got the job. You know you change people's lives Anyone who's watching this most people have worked in corporate or worked a job. That phone call is just a call call to get, it makes you day, it makes you weekend, and to be able to give that good news. I really enjoyed that And so I wanted you to have more and more of that. And then I started to see the pay packet, like oh my God, you get paid a good money to go and do buying people jobs. And so I was like this is a win-win situation And so.

Speaker 1:

But where my skills really came into play is actually then moved into internal recruitment, and so we have two different versions of the recruitment world. One is where you work for an agency and you know you might work for multiple clients. I found more my skills and more line to being internal recruitment, where I would recruit so if a one company, and so I did that for companies like Rolls Royce, virgin holidays, a company called EDF Energy in the UK also Goodrich Aviation, where I'd go and sit in their HR departments and just recruit for all those departments And really hone my skills over a few years. And then I started to work for a dental company where I was the recruitment manager for that dental company And that's where I met my ex-wife and she was Australian And she came over to the UK to work and the recruitment agency who worked for me called me and said this girl wants to come over from Australia. She's looking to work in dental. Would you only give her an interview. Anyway, gave her an interview and gave her a job in the town that I was living in And then we just became friends and one thing led to another And we moved in together about four years And she got cold It was very cold apparently And we came back to Australia and really from that point onwards, you know, that's where I kind of fell in love with the country.

Speaker 1:

It's such a beautiful country. When you've been here for so long and you go back to the UK, you realise how big this country is. The space and the air and the sky seem so much bigger And the opportunities here because of that are so much bigger as well. You're such a young country and again, 25 million people and a lot of people, so there's lots of opportunity you can come into. And so I brought my recruitment experience over from the UK and realised that recruitment in the UK is very different to recruitment in Australia. We have, you know, it was very cutthroat in the UK So when you come over here it's quite an easy market to come into because we're so driven in the UK we get, you know, we've got big targets and it's not so much like that over here. And so it was fairly easy for me to get into the recruitment market.

Speaker 1:

And but at that time we started another business, another company called Mobile Dental Clinics Australia And I joined that business at full time and moved away from my recruitment career and joined that business and realised I had more to offer than just recruitment. But because I sat in these big corporate businesses in the HR departments and absorbed all this information from multi billion dollar companies and I put that information into this really small business, it was crazy when I was talking about it I was writing, you know, doing an org chart. I did an org chart for one year, two years, five years, 10 years, and it was massive. It was crazy. I was thinking this is bonkers Like, but it's anything that I knew how to do And I had to make it a difference in this business to make it succeed. And once I started to write these things down, it really started to paint a picture, and then all I needed to do is then connect the dots of those pictures, and those are the processes and systems. And I was like, ok, well, i didn't even really understand what that meant, even though I'd done it a lot. But then I just started to go OK, well, you know, the system is about how to get from A to Z and do it the most efficient way. And so I started documenting all the processes and systems down And really, from there the business kind of exploded.

Speaker 1:

We went from two employees to 70 employees in two years, and to give you an idea of how crazy that journey was, that was $70,000 turnover year one to 4.5 million year two. And it was bonkers Like. It was crazy. And it was all down to the fact that we wrote things down, we documented processes and systems, we recorded them on programs just like we're using right here. And so when we brought in new people. It wasn't the way to take in my time up trying to train somebody. Being a small business, i could just give them a whole series of videos to follow And they could do it. And they could go and do it within the week. And so we exploded.

Speaker 1:

And one of the reasons why I started the recruitment business is because we had to hire a lot of people. We went out to traditional recruitment agencies And the traditional agencies charge 15% to 25% of a salary package And so to give you an idea of what that means, it's, if you're going to pay somebody, say $80,000 a year plus super, let's call it $90,000, inclusive of super. Let's say they're going to get a car and the car's worth $30,000, so let's say $120,000. Let's say you're going to pay them commission and on target earnings is $200,000 in total, you're paying 15% to 25% of the $200,000. And we had to hire 14 people And I was kind of like I can't even hire one person for that. There's got to be a better way. And I couldn't find a better way And so I was like I'm going to do the better way. I know recruitment, so why can't I do that? And the frustrating part was I was still very corporate mindset And I had a fear of direct the word.

Speaker 1:

Director, founder, business owner They were all the people that I bowed down to for 15 years of my life. I thought, oh yeah, you're the boss. And it took me a long time to realize that they're just human beings. The same insecurities as me, the same fears, the same oh my God, when's that next deal coming or how am I going to pay this bill? And so I went away. Unfortunately, the relationship did not go so well.

Speaker 1:

In the end, i ended up moving away from that company and started the company called Simplified Recruitment Solutions literally in November before the pandemic started in Australia, and joined B&I Networking And there was a baptism as a fire. I had never done networking before and went straight into there and it was very interesting And they helped me a lot. It was probably a really bad time for me to join because it's even going through a pandemic, but you've got to go and do things, you've got to push yourself out of your comfort zone And I knew that all those people in that room could help me And so it was a good win for me. And then, once you start to learn that it's not about those people, it's not about those people in that room. There's 20 people there. They all know 100 people each And so by you knowing all those 20 people, you know 2,000 people. And so once you start to understand that there is so much business out there, there's so many businesses out there, and you start to have an abundance mindset. And this is what I'll talk about a lot in this call, because my past is really bad.

Speaker 1:

Things happened And I was actually through that timeframe when I started Simplified Recruitment. my ex-wife she committed suicide And it was a crazy time. I ended up losing everything. I ended up living in a garage in a place called Mount Eliza, living on what is Centrelink, coming into a pandemic with $50 in my bank account And I was kind of like what do I do? What am I meant to do? And people who had the answers for me were in the networking event And they were there to support, not just there to provide referrals or leads or whatever. I could go and have a one-to-one with them and go. Mate, i am, this is what the situation is And, yes, they're not going to provide me with money, but they provide you with a place to go and talk and be able to put your worries and say, hey, what would you do in this situation? And it really helped me. But what it helped me do the most, it helped me learn about myself. It helped me learn how to speak to business owners and not fear them. It helped me learn about my product and how that's helping clients.

Speaker 1:

I remember sat there one day I was doing a market, i bought this marketing package, this thing, and the first thing was what's your why? It was all about Simon's Cinex Y and they were talking about Apple And I was like, i don't know, i'm just trying to get some money in. That's the why. I'm just going to eat mate, i don't want to do anything else. And the frustrating part about that was, i'm sure Apple didn't have a why when they were in that garage And they just knew it was a thing there that they could make. It was really good and they wanted to build that. And the why came later And so I was really stressed out about it. I was kind of like why? And I was like and it's okay to have a why, i need to survive. And that was what it was all about.

Speaker 1:

And so I threw myself into meeting people. We went into lockdown, so I was in just on this computer, like you see right now, and it was the best thing that would ever happen to me, because I'm an introvert And by me, sat on this screen and looking, right now I can see obviously you have, and I can see me, but I'm in my house, i don't know who in my house, So my energy is perfect, i don't need to shy away from things. And so I threw myself into networking And I was like, okay, well, i gotta do something, because I'm going to sit around still going through my ex. I've got to deal with an estate. I've got to try and sell a house Remember the pandemic I've lost a business through a lot of things that I can't talk about, and so I lost a business that was trading $4.5 million.

Speaker 1:

I just say goodbye to that. And that's really hard to do when you've spent all this time doing something that you didn't even know you could do. But then I realized, hey, if I can do it there, i can do this again. And so I had to force myself to get out of bed to jump on a networking event, have a one to one with people, because what will other's are going to do? I'll sit around thinking about stuff. Well, that's the worst thing that can happen, unless you're sat there thinking about positive things. And I wasn't sitting there thinking my life's over. I'm never going to do that. I'm never going to have again.

Speaker 1:

And it wasn't until I start to have one to one with people and open up about my life. And I said and people ask me, what did you do before this? And I'd go build this business from $70,000 to $4.5 million, and their face would drop. And I'd go isn't that what normally happens? And they'd be like, no, that's not normally happens. Oh, maybe I am Got something in me that I can give to the world. And that's what I was afraid of that nobody would want me or need me, because it always had that in my life. And now I was literally on my own And so I was like, well, what can I do? And I said, well, if I go meet people, i can then learn how I can help people. And so I went to four networking events a week. I had 21 to ones a week And I got to the point where I'd go to a networking event and people would go oh look, here's Bobby again, here's Bobby again. And I'm like, yeah, hi, everybody's me.

Speaker 1:

And then I started to learn that people would go oh, i'm looking to be connected to a bookkeeper, or I'm looking to be connected to a it's only a franchise in. I'd go, oh, yeah, i've got three people, oh, i've got two people for you to do that, and I go to that. And so it gave me a purpose in my life. Because I couldn't no one was recruited at that time. But I had to somehow bring positivity into my life. And do you know how cool it is when, like, i'd call that person and go, hey, i met somebody, i want to be introduced to somebody in franchise in. I know that you've got a few contacts, so you're happy for me to do that connection. And they would go, yes, i'd get tingles on it now, how cool is that? How cool is I'm going to send an email to introduce two people and that could change anyone's lives.

Speaker 1:

And that was the basics of how I started simplified recruitment solutions. I started by giving people referrals or intros, and meeting people and doing this And again, no recruitment was happening until the end of that year. But then, all of a sudden, because I put all that legwork in and help people and support people again at Bundin's mindset, i'd give people, my network, no expectation in return. I don't expect that you're going to provide me something, but by meeting amazing people on one-to-ones. This is why you should have as many one-to-ones as you can. It's because you meet great people. You meet these people who are experts in their fields.

Speaker 1:

And so I was meeting a lot of business coaches and mindset coaches because, number one, they had a good target market for me so they could help me. I can help them with recruiting staff for their clients. But also they were mindset coaches and business coaches. So why wouldn't I want to go and have an hour with them? Because they would always give me the great information.

Speaker 1:

And so I learned about mindset. I learned that you it doesn't matter what other people think about you, it doesn't matter, you're always going to find your own crowd. There's always going to be people who are not going to like what you say. There's always going to be people who do like what you say. But if you don't put it out there, then you're never going to find that crowd. And so I was like OK, that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to meet people, i'm going to help people And I'm going to make sure that people understand that I have an abundance mindset And that abundance mindset changes everything in your life, because life's bloody hard. I don't have a mind running a business, and so if you're sat here and you're always looking for that sale and that's where you get your buzz from And we might do a client a month OK, well, there's a lot of 30 days in a month And for me to be happy only for five minutes just because I got a sale.

Speaker 1:

So I then pushed myself to go and listen to people and go how can I help you? Because by me, helping you is bringing positivity in my life. And then I started to learn about marketing Right. Again, everything is marketing. Everything we do is marketing. Whether we're going to a one-to-one or we're going to a local networking event or we're hiring somebody or we're doing a job out there. It's all about marketing Right.

Speaker 1:

And so I started to learn that the more introductions are moved away from referrals, referrals are more hey, this person needs this service and you've got that service. Intros are really cool because it's like hey, there's no, you're not going to do a deal between yourselves. But there's synergies there that you're going to help each other out Right. But every time I did that intro, both of those people were seeing my marketing, they were seeing my email. They were going oh isn't Bobby a great guy? And so every time I did that, i went out. I went out my way to help somebody else. It was a positive thing back to me At some point.

Speaker 1:

If I do 100 intros at some point, something's going to come back to me in that universe. And when you start to understand about abundance and the universe, whatever you give out, you get back 10 times over. So if you go out there and you screw people over, you're going to get screwed over 10 times worse at some point. And it might not even be you right. The universe was really weird. Like you might go okay, nothing really bad's happened to me, but my daughter didn't get into university. That's the universe, mate. That's the universe Like don't be a bastard, don't be a horrible person and expect everything to be rosy.

Speaker 1:

You can go out there and be abundant and provide support to people in numerous ways. People look at you in a different light. People see you as a great person, a positive person, and people want those people around them. There's not many people out there who would. I've done introductions to people who've just met, literally now, to clients I'm recruiting for right now, because I know that that could help that person. I don't have any control over the client who's going to use that person or not, but at least I've bridged that gap and said, hey, here's an opportunity. You've got to go now. Go and do that. And why wouldn't I want to do that? It makes me feel good. It makes me feel good about myself, like businesses hard, like I said before, and so all through that year I pushed myself to meet people, to shake as many hands as possible, virtually, and it changed my life.

Speaker 1:

Like I had no network when I left the mobile dentist. I had no personal network, nothing at all. And then I realized I am very vulnerable right now. I don't have anything. But fast forward to today, i know that if I've got anything going on, i can call Ab. Hey, ab, how's it going? I'll get whatever's going on. I couldn't have that before. I remember actually putting something on LinkedIn. I'd never really used LinkedIn. Hey, i'm really struggling, i need a job. Like ghosts. Nothing, no, no, i haven't even commented on it. I didn't even understand why. But now, if I went on LinkedIn and said, hey guys, i'm really struggling, if anyone got any work, i would no doubt be. Some people are going to come and help me. And so fast forward to where we are right now.

Speaker 1:

simplified recruitment has over 105 clients all around Australia And we've serviced everything from lawyers to chefs, waitresses, and we do it 50% cheaper than a traditional agency. Because, again, remembering the story of why I started is because people were getting ripped off by traditional recruitment agencies. Don't get me wrong, they're needed, but small business can't afford that. And so I was like well, i'm going to help those people. And so we made the small business champions award 2021. We made the finals of that. We'd only been trading six months, we only had three clients, but because of what we're trying to bring to the market, people saw that And so it gives you confidence to be able to go out there and make that call, because you know you're providing a service that is a good service And, as long as you're abundant about it, you're always going to find clients.

Speaker 1:

It might not be today, it might not be tomorrow, It will happen at some point. But again, what are you doing to make yourself feel good through that timeframe, when you're waiting for that? I'm waiting for that to happen And that's why having this abundance mindset and helping people and going out there and with intent to help people and understanding, yes, this person I might not ever speak to that person, ever again, ever again, but the universe knows that. The universe knows that that person has a spoke to me. So you've got to go out there with positive intent and abundance and everything else comes from that.

Speaker 1:

And it's hard. You're like, oh my God, i really hate what I'm doing right now, but you've got to just trust the process and take action. This doesn't happen overnight. It's not like I sat there and just sent a few emails and I had to get up at six in the morning, go to a B&I. I had to then go to another meeting after that. I had to then go and have one-to-ones. I had to go and do. It's all about action, life's all about action And you can have the amazing ideas in the world. You can go okay, well, this could change and save the world. But if you don't go and take the steps that go and do that and take the action, then it's never going to happen. It's never going to happen.

Speaker 2:

There's so much in what you just said, bobby, and for those listening, just hit rewind and just go back and just listen to that again And then come back to this point, because there was so many little permutations or different ways that you expressed this overarching principle of the law of reciprocity and people call it manifestation what you give out comes back. Where did you learn that?

Speaker 1:

Business coaches. Honestly, i met there's one lady who really helped me, mary Jensen. I would highly recommend you guys having a chat with her. If you want some details, let me know. And she was telling me about manifestation and all this kind of stuff And I was like, why am I out of crap?

Speaker 1:

So I was in that mindset of like and I remember I was walking the dog in lockdown. I was walking the dog and I was thinking about his manifestation. I was like, seriously, if I think about having a Ferrari, is that going to give me a Ferrari? And then, more and more I thought about it and the more the universe was like kind of punched me in the head, which really is, and I'll be honest with you, i have a lot of visions and things like this and I stream a lot of information And I was like, all of a sudden, this, it was a map, a roadmap came in my head and the end of the roadmap was Ferrari. Right, i don't want a Ferrari, maybe in the future. It's not one of my things, but just one of the things I was thinking about. And then it clicked And I was like it's all about like having a vision. And I said what you have a vision board. I want this vision, i want to have this house, but when you see that house every day on your vision board, you do everything you can to create a pathway to that vision, to that house, and that's what it's all about. And so these people started to teach me this, and it's like, if I'm thinking about living in a mansion, okay, well, i need to earn $5 million to go and live in that mansion, right? So what are the steps I've got to take to be able to get to that? And again, this is what I'm talking about action. We can all have a plan and write down a plan as much as we want Great But the universe doesn't go. Then go. Oh, there you go.

Speaker 1:

There was a guy who was on we'll get to this in a moment a big fan of TikTok, right. This guy was on TikTok and he manifested winning the lottery, right. But the lottery ticket didn't just turn up in his pocket. He had to physically go and buy the lottery ticket. So he took action and go and do it.

Speaker 1:

And that's what we have to do. We have to have the vision of what we want, we have to have a process and a map to get that, the business plan, to go and find what you want. And if I want to be living in a mansion worth $5 million, then I've got to have 10 million clients, and so I have to have a pathway of how am I going to go and get those clients. And that's what it's all about. And to meet people, go and speak to them. Most business coaches and mindset coaches want to tell you how to do this. Yes, they want to sell your product, don't get me wrong. They want to earn money And I understand that. But I'm just going to give you some tip bits. And the internet's amazing. Go on to it.

Speaker 1:

I'm learning a lot about vibrations at the moment. I always had this thing. I always wondered why. Sometimes I felt funny when there was certain music or whatever And I did this meditation kind of like 10 day thing And it was all about vibrations when you were doing the meditation And it made me feel so different. And once you start to understand how, you can make yourself feel different.

Speaker 1:

We all listen to music and we all get emotional or we get happy. If I'm having a bad day, i'm like it's OK. I'm like OK to have a bad day. I'm not saying that every day. I'm like, yeah, let's go, i'm abundant. Sometimes I want to go, i'm just going to go lie in bed, and that's OK to do that. But you don't want to do it every day. But there's things around us that are so powerful. Music is so powerful. You find that music that makes you feel good and you put headphones on and you get into that music and you listen to it four or five times over. That's going to reset you. It's going to reset everything in your mind and get away from that negativity. You've got the power.

Speaker 1:

Half the time, people don't want to make the effort. They don't want to make the effort to be able to go and do that. Being positive is hard work. Being negative is hard work. Which one would you want? We talk about a lot in business. We talk about working for someone's hard work, but also having your own business's hard work. Which hard work do you want? It's hard work being positive. But you've got tools there for you to be able to do that. Music is the answer to most problems.

Speaker 1:

You want to cry? I've got 10,000 songs I can listen to to make me cry. But if I want to be buzzing and jumping around and I've got way more songs that are going to make me feel like that, because I have a whole playlist of what's called Upbeat, because I know I put that on. It's going to make me dance, It's going to make me feel energetic. And so meeting people and meeting business coaches, and meeting as many people as you can and understanding their expertise People spend years and thousands of dollars to become business coaches. You can go and speak to them because you can go hey, i'm having a really bad day. What would you suggest? And they will go oh, have you thought about doing meditation or whatever, and vibrations? There's so many things out there, but if you don't go and ask the question, then you're never going to get any answers.

Speaker 2:

And the last thing that you just said is the key. You've got to go and ask the question. Ask yourself out there, make the connections. Like you're saying, talk to people. At the end of the day, business is about serving people, that's right, i see, business is the second part of it.

Speaker 1:

I want a relationship with people. Sometimes it doesn't work. I can't have a relationship with everybody, but you have to meet people. The more people you meet, the more hands you shake, the more deals you'll make, and whether that is a bit harsh, but that's what it's about. You're only going to meet three people and only meet those three people all the time. Unless they know really, really, really good people, then you're not going to get anywhere, and so everyone has a different view of life, different way of doing things, and you go out there and meet these people and you just take a little bit of it.

Speaker 1:

Ah, i like that idea. Take that little, tiny, little word. I'm going to use that. I'm going to use that positivity And I use that word about myself I am good enough, i can do this. These things are really strong, really really strong words, but so many people sit there and go oh, i can't do that job, oh, i can't do this. Forget that, forget it. There's so many things that are positive. You can focus on whatever you want, you can focus on anything you like. So why not focus on that little positive thing? Just that little thing is going to make your life so much easier, and it might be just for one second a day.

Speaker 1:

When I was going through the stuff with my ex and I remember I looked at the clock and I thought, oh my God, it's 24. I've got to get to another 24 hours. And I remember one day I was like, ah, i've not even thought about that for a few seconds. And then the next day was a few more seconds And what I was doing was replacing the negative with something positive. Like it was an hour networking And I couldn't come onto the networking event as the negative because I want to be able to attract people to speak to me, and so for that one hour was for positivity, but I'm in one hour less of being negative. And so I was like, ok, well, if I go to three networking events, that's three hours of positivity. And then I first started having one to ones, and so I said, literally my diary was so packed with meeting with people that half the day I had to be positive. Don't get me wrong. In the meetings I was in bed crying my eyes out, But it meant that I had freedom and allowed myself to be kind to myself, and this is what people taught me If you're not kind to yourself, no one else is going to do it for you. You've got to treat yourself like the king. You are the king. You are that person.

Speaker 1:

If you say you are negative and rubbish and ugly, you are negative, rubbish and ugly. Your brain doesn't care. It just follows what you want it to be. If you want to go and be a footballer, you want to go and play football. You have to think about that and be positive about that. But you have to take the action as well. You have to go and train, you have to go and practice. You have to go and be fit and healthy and eat properly and all those things. But you've got to tell yourself you're that.

Speaker 1:

So I used to say in my meetings I had no clients, i'd go, i'm an international recruiter. I'm an international recruiter. I wasn't. But I'm telling my head that I am. Because then my head doesn't care about the facts. It goes you are, you are an international recruiter. You are a business owner. You are a successful business owner, i am.

Speaker 1:

And so once you start saying those kind things to yourself, it doesn't matter what anyone else says, because you build this resilience up and you understand that, however, i speak to myself. I am what I am. I am what I say I am. I say I'm ugly. I'm ugly. If I say I can't do this, you can't do it. There's so many things that I do that I don't wanna do. I do lives. I do all these things. I do it because I know other people wanna do it, and so if they see me and go, well, he's doing it. You know I used to look at people and go, how the hell are you doing that, mate? Like, well, if you can do it, i'm gonna go and do it. And so you can be an inspiration. And once you start being an inspiration for people and people go, you know they give you the feedback of like I got a message from my old boss, my old boss in Ibiza, right, not spoken for 20 odd years.

Speaker 1:

He sends me a message on Facebook. So we're doing this thing called SRS TV And what we do is we talk about how you know, do your resume and we talk about mindset for business owner and we bring all these tips and stuff like that. And he messaged me on Facebook I've not spoken for 20 years And he went. I'm so proud. I knew that emotional He goes. I'm so proud of you because of what you're doing And I was like, oh my God, i'm reaching people without even realizing you're reaching people So you never know who's watching.

Speaker 1:

So by you taking that space up and bringing your positivity and your mindset, you're changing people's lives. You don't know how it's gonna affect people. People will look at you and go thank you, like I needed that message. If you can do it, i can do it. And that's important, you know. Important to talk about your journey, to talk about mindset, to talk about. You know we are what we think we are. We'll make a difference in not only just your life but everyone around you.

Speaker 1:

You know my partner I talk to her about it all the time. Now she'll come home from doing something and she'll be, you know, a whirlwind of negativity And I'll let her get it all out and go and then, once she's finished, i go okay, what's the positives that happened today? I came home to you Like we've got dinner on the table, we're living in a beautiful house. You know there's so many positive things that happen. We take for granted Even just the small thing of hey, we've got a nice meal on the table, we get to sit and have dinner together. You get to go to work and have a job. You know, if you go to work and help disabled people, like a day would have it.

Speaker 1:

There's an interesting meme on Facebook where there's a guy who is walking and he's looking at the guy with a car and goes, oh I wish I had that car. And the guy with a car he's looking at someone else with a better car and there's a Ferrari and so on and so on And we always look at, and so the guy who she's looking after is in the wheelchair, looking at her going. Your life must be amazing And I'm like you know, it's all about perspective. There's positivity in everything that we do. We choose to look at what we want to look at in that moment in time And we look at the positive part. It makes us feel better. So why would we not fill our lives with positivity? I so love that, bobby.

Speaker 2:

I heard from someone a while back, a few years I guess, and it stayed with me. It's a little line, and that is that what you focus on expands, and that plays into exactly what you've been talking about. You know, if you focus on the negativity or you focus on what's not working, your life or your business, it gets bigger And then you're allowing that space and that energy to take up valuable time and energy like you said, the minutes on the clock And then you're choosing to focus on the negative instead of something else, instead of the positive. And everything is a choice. Everything's a choice in life.

Speaker 1:

Do I go to McDonald's, or do I go and have cook food from home, and we only have. And once we start to learn about the moment, like right now, that's where joy comes from it. Like this second, right now, nothing The next hour, whatever happens in the next hour, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what happened two seconds ago, it's what we do right now. But that affects everything that goes forward.

Speaker 1:

Because if we sit here and I think, oh my God, i've not had a sale for two months and get down about that, that's not gonna help me 10 hours time or the next day, and so you have to have this understanding of, okay, well, what can I do to take action, to make the difference, to make sure I have a sale? Okay, well, i can meet more people, go to network events, i can collaborate with somebody, but you've got to have that abundance mindset and the positivity to go into that. And that's the key to life, isn't it? If, living in the moment, not, oh my God, in six months time I'm gonna have a gas bill, why are you thinking about that now? You're gonna ruin the positivity you're in that. The money's going to be in The positivity you're in at the moment.

Speaker 2:

You obviously learnt this from the last number of years, would that be correct? This has been a big learning and living experience for you.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's amazing, honestly, for the people who've been corporate and who have jobs and we get brainwashed by so many things in our world And we don't get told how powerful we are. Now we think what we want, we get it. But as long as you take those steps, action in that. And I never understood that. For me it was corporate life, that was my parents lived in the corporate life, monday to Friday, nine to five, that was it, that was the world. That was what you did. You bought a house, retirement, all good, but life is just so much more to life And we can do anything we want as long as we put our mind to it and action and take steps to go to do that. I'm not saying just because you wanna be a multimillionaire that you're gonna be a multimillionaire, but if you make steps to go towards that, you've got more of a chance than if you're not doing that. And so, again, it's about those choices. Life's hard. Which hard track do you wanna take? You wanna take the hard track which is positive, which will bring you joy. I'm not saying it's gonna make you rich, but it'll bring you joy, it'll make you happy, guaranteed, guaranteed. You're gonna be more happier on that path than if you go down the negative route, cause all it does is it attracts that negativity. You will get the bad paying job You are gonna get because you're not. You know. Surely just having a job and getting paid, that's positive. Okay, i've got money, so the people out there can't even work. And so I know I sit here on a laptop, i'm looking at a canal, like why that's that's joy. Like I don't, that's joy for me, then that's what I wanna keep, and so that's why I work my arse off to be able to keep this. Forget about millions That'll come down the line. So right now, i have to go in this moment. I've gotta be in this moment with you and these people listening, not thinking about what's gonna happen in the next hour or what happened 10 years ago.

Speaker 1:

Yes, like, bad things happen. I've had lots of bad things happen to me, trust me, And if I sit here and think about that, all it does is bring anger and pain. And those things can be really good, right, as long as you channel them into a positive. If you put them into the negative, it comes. You know bad things happen in that area, but you channel that into positivity, you end up with a business like I have, and I put that into there. I put that anger in that. You know all the things I wanted to do to those people that took away so much from me. I channeled it into everything positive And here I am now. I won't be talking to you if it wasn't for that.

Speaker 2:

Exactly exactly. But those listening, you know you're probably now thinking about your past and you know probably, if you're like me, kind of listening to what you're saying and going, yeah, you know I have had things in the past and it is a choice and everything is a choice. You know everyone's got stuff that's happened to us. and guess what? Life is not a bed of roses. It's not about that. The reality is stuff happens all the time in life and most of it we can't control. So except that stuff will happen. But what I'm hearing from you, bobby, is the power that we have to control ourselves, our feelings, our joy, and create the energy to attract more good stuff, more positivity, more positive outcomes, and that comes through meeting people and staying present and being open in the moment.

Speaker 1:

And helping people. Support people. You know we see all the time like content on Facebook. We see these posts. You know it doesn't take anything to like a post. Like that post. That person who's providing that content has gone through a big mindset shift to go. I've got to go and post this onto Facebook and people are going to judge me And so like it. It takes two seconds to write a comment. Like support people in their journey. Whether you believe in it or not, it's not your journey, that's their journey. Like you don't have to buy that product, so you don't have to believe in that person or anything. But at the end of the day, if they're your friend and they're on their journey, then why not Like? why not just go and do that?

Speaker 1:

There's so many ways we can help people. It doesn't have to be with my time. It doesn't have to be giving them money or buying a product from them. Share that post. You know it makes me cry sometimes when people share my posts and they write about something. It makes me feel so great, all right, and that person is taking them two seconds to do it. It makes them feel great. Do it. Go and share that post. Go and comment on it. People take hours and hours, and hours to try to create content And you know, and just by that little comment it makes them go. I'm going to do it again tomorrow. I'm actually going to do it the next day. I'm going to do it the next day, i'm going to do it the next day, and that's what they need. And so you can support people in a number of ways. Just with one to one or referrals, just like a bloody comment. That's it. It's great.

Speaker 2:

So simple and so powerful. Let's talk about six star, bobby. This is the six star podcast, so tell me, what does six star mean to you?

Speaker 1:

See, i have a background in hospitality, i used to run hotels and stuff like that. And when I compare the words six star, it's about providing A service and servicing people to the best of your ability. And so if your ability is, you might think, oh well, no, i'm near a six star. Well then you've got to really do some looking into yourself, because everyone has the ability to provide. I said, forget about business service, and it can be anything. It can be servicing your partner, it can be servicing your family, your kids. You know, it's about showing up and being the best person that you are. This second doesn't matter in the future or the past, it's right now and being present in the moment. Where you find well, i find a lot of people lack is listening and supporting people how they want to be supported, and so that little extra thing takes you above a lot of people.

Speaker 1:

There was a one of my old bosses. She used to have a lot of quotes on her in her office And I always look at this one. I used to say you should always go the extra mile because it's always quiet. I always found that really interesting, because we talk about five stars, four stars, three stars, but how many people do the extra? to be six star, we all have it in us. We just have to listen and take action to be the extra, and it's about being your true self with somebody, so you can help people and support people in what they do.

Speaker 1:

Whether it's reading a book or whether it's trying to get a client, or whether it's creating a Facebook post, i could say not many people will comment and like on it. And so when I do that, most people are four or five star. That makes me six star. Makes me six star because I am the person who is. I'm taking the effort, i'm taking my time to help and support somebody in whatever they're doing, and not many people do that And that's why I like that saying is go the extra mile, because it's always quiet, because not many people go the extra mile. So to me it's kind of like six stars being true to you and true to the person you're trying to help us support And go the extra step, even if it's just an inch. Go the extra step.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, i'm going to do an introduction to you. Not many people do that. I'm going to write a comment on your post. I'm going to share that with my network. I'm going to email that to somebody I know. That's what six star to me means. It's about being the person to lead that way and go and show people hey, this is an amazing way. You can be a great person and support people at a minimal time, a minimal cost, and so it doesn't take a lot of effort. I don't believe to be six star but you have to have the mindset of it. You've got to have that mindset. You've got to want to do it. If you don't want to do it, then you can't be six star. You've got to want to be able to help people. You've got to want to be able to support people, and that's what that extra bit to me is is that that's what makes you stand out. And so don't do that extra bit. Go and just be that extra.

Speaker 2:

So you say it's a mindset. Is it also a heart set, as in, does someone need to feel genuinely concerned or caring about helping someone right, rather than doing it for with an expected return? Do you know what I'm saying? Like, you talked earlier about doing things without expectation. So with this six star, this extra bit, is it? Yes, there's a mindset, but do they need to have that genuine desire to help, the genuine care Is it got? Does it have to come from that place as well?

Speaker 1:

I think when we talk about the mind and the heart they're so different. In my head, like your mind is about action, you think about it, you write it down, you do it. The heart is there to back up and to provide a more human element to it. You know, the brain is just the computer and the heart is what makes us care and stuff like that. I don't think the heart, i think you have to care. I don't think it's about the want to do that Like I want. If you want to help people, then do it, go and help people.

Speaker 1:

The heart comes into it, whether you know, i think the heart is such a powerful tool and it can get in the way of a lot of things because we think, oh, you know, we don't really care about that product as an example, but if we get the product, the person like we're trying to help people And so it's taking that action and using your brain to put it out there that you're helping something. And you know we don't expect anything return from that person. I have expectation the universe is going to return, is going to give me back, because if I didn't, life is really hard then to be able to go out there and do that. You have to have some belief in something, and so I believe that if I go and help 10, 20, 30, 40 people, at some point something is going to come back to me, because what's the point? Why would the universe allow me to do that?

Speaker 2:

And there lies the law of reciprocity. but that it's all energy. you know, the energy you put out then does come back to you. And it does, And it's obviously showing to you, because otherwise you wouldn't be where you are today, Because you put these steps into place. This is what you've done over and over and over again.

Speaker 1:

That's it. That's exactly right. We just want to talk about repetition. You know, processes, systems, like people talk to me about.

Speaker 1:

How do I go through bad days Is why I make sure that my diary is set up for the year Like my diary is set up with meetings and networking and whatever, And so when I come into a bad day, all I've got to do is go autopilot. It's already there, booked in my calendar. It's got to go and do it. It's got to go and do it. And then you know, sometimes when I'm like I don't want to go and do it, but I honestly believe anyone can be successful in business on the good days, Yeah, That's easy. It's when the chips are down and that's when you've got to go right. We just got to get through this. We've got to get through this.

Speaker 1:

Always, ups and downs, There's always going to be bad days and good days, And so we need to prepare ourselves for the bad days, because they're the harder ones to get through. You know I can easily prove the good days. Oh, that's great. You know, no problem at all. But you know, when the bad day does come along, we still have to do the stuff we don't want to do. You've got to get through that. So having a structure and process and things booked out, And you know, you know I'll do my books on a Monday. I have networking on certain days, I have meetings on certain days, And so when it happens and I really don't want to do it, it's just autopilot because it's already there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

That's a great, great tip. What would you say? your genius is Bobby.

Speaker 1:

I've learned and that I have like this mind. I remember meeting a business coach and she said I'm a streamer, right, and so I can sit here and you can talk about something And I will stream information to my head about what you're talking about, even though I've never even probably thought about it or whatever. I've got a real open mind and ideas And so sometimes I can go on a one-to-one and people will be talking about what they're doing and I go have you thought about this? And I go, oh, not really thought about that. And I go you know, maybe you should try that. And I go how did you know that? I don't know, it just came into my head.

Speaker 1:

And so I really trust that, i believe in that, like I really allow that to happen, like so many things happened in my businesses because of those things, and I think that that's being connected to a higher, whatever it might be, and because I know not everyone thinks like that, not everyone has that ability, and so I really enjoy meeting people and brainstorming things and going, oh, have you thought about this or about this or how about you can at least things?

Speaker 1:

And I really enjoy that part of it And you know if you've got a power like that, you use it. You know I sit here and think about ways I can improve my businesses and you know, srs TV came from a vision. It was just kind of like ah, why don't we do a TV show about recruitment? I go, well, i can do that, because I can do it just on zoom, and why can't I just do it? I'm just going to take action and go and do that, and so I really processes and systems really just kind of like fall into place in my mind And so so, yeah, so processes, systems and just the ability to think outside of that box.

Speaker 2:

What a great superpower.

Speaker 1:

He's great, It's also. It also occurs because you get a lot of ideas and you're like, oh, like, oh, I've got a few businesses I want to start. It's kind of like no, just like, way a little bit.

Speaker 2:

So you've got this big box and you put all the streaming ideas to this box. You can't do anything with most of them.

Speaker 1:

A whole spreadsheet with business ideas and something will come up. You know, it's all about time and effort and money, and if I was a multi-millionaire I'd probably have all of the businesses, because I wouldn't have to do them all Or I could just get people to do it. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I love that. What do you see as being one of the biggest barriers for business owners and people in today's world to achieving six star or even achieving their goals and getting to where they want to be?

Speaker 1:

Just mindset. Mindset, action Those two things will make you successful. It doesn't matter what you do. You know if you've got the right mindset and you've got the action to go with that, you know you can't just sit here and think about being successful. You've got to go and take those steps. You've got to go and meet people, you've got to have a product and all these things We get around way so many times. Oh, no one's going to want to read my post and no one's going to want to watch my live. I've just proven that people watch it, even though they don't see them watching it. They've messaged me and said hey, mate, you are making a difference. You are doing talk about things that people don't talk about. Those things all come with like a. You've got that mindset to be able to go and do that, but you've got to take action.

Speaker 1:

There's no point having an idea that could revolutionise power, let's say, is going to replace petrol or whatever. It might be Great idea, but if you don't go and speak to somebody about it, you don't try and contact Elon Musk and give them an idea. It was interesting TikTok or so and they were taught it was Elon talk about rockets and he was being interviewed by somebody and he guided Oh, have you thought about putting boosters or something on it? And he was like, ah, do you know what? That's a really good idea. We should do that, shouldn't we? And all of a sudden, just because he said, hey, you should, you thought about it just because it's Elon Musk, you think, oh yeah, he's probably got it covered, but you never know. And so until you go and have that conversation, or go and try and have that conversation, or try and reach to somebody and go, hey, i've got this idea. What do you think of it? Everyone's going to say it's a great idea, but you go and speak to other people, you get a good idea.

Speaker 1:

But, again, it's all about that action, isn't it? Action, having the positivity of going at some point. There are terrible products in the market and they're so successful, And there's also amazing products that are successful. It's because people took action and went out there and did it. That's what it's all about. Action and mindset will bring you six star, But if you don't have that mindset and you don't take action, why? why do you even think that you could be six star?

Speaker 2:

That's it. That's it, thank you. All right, we have. you've just given such an amazing, i guess, foray into your world and you've shared so much with me and the listeners. Bobby, we're coming down to the wire. As much as I'd love to just keep talking to you, because I love your energy and I love your positivity And you know, what I love also is how much you've grown from your journey. I guess I love hearing about people's journeys, but I also see, because I've talked to so many people you know when they go through hard times and what people do with that. And it's the people that go through these really tough times and they learn from it and they figure out the positive pathway. Through that they really do inspire other people, and that's you. You don't need to talk about the bad stuff, you know, but just knowing that you've been through a lot and look at how you've turned things around is so inspiring.

Speaker 1:

So I just want to acknowledge you for that And thank you I think like if you're at the bottom and there's probably people who watch this who will feel like they're at the bottom the bottom is a great place to be man. Honestly, there's no expectations And this is why you know if you're, say, 18 or you're watching this, that's the time to go and take chances. I really wish I'd made so many choices, to take so many risks when I was younger. Because you're at the bottom doesn't matter, if you go.

Speaker 1:

If you fail or you don't make money doesn't matter, you don't have money anyway. And that's the good thing about being in the bottom is, once you're there, really there's only one other way you can go. But you have to remember when you were at the bottom right, i was terrible with money. Right, really bad. But because when I came to the bottom, i had to learn really quickly about that. And so now my life is lived like I'm at the bottom, like I don't spend money, i don't do anything.

Speaker 1:

Any money comes into the business gets spent on the business, whereas if I was 10 years ago it's a different story. I would have been really spending that money. You know even at the bottom makes it easier If you have less outgoings. You know there's less stress trying to get that sale. You know if we don't have nice cars and stuff like that, we don't need that. If you're at the bottom right now, don't feel like it's the end, it's just a start, and try and keep your mentality as in, like your money and all that kind of stuff. Try and keep it there. So as soon as you start getting money again and you then bring in expenses, you're then going to increase the bottom. You're always going to be at the bottom because you know you've got to. If it wasn't for that bottom part, i wouldn't understand so many things about myself. So it's a good place to be.

Speaker 2:

Sometimes It is, it is. I know that that was a wonderful analogy and you know certainly around being able to keep the mentality of being at the bottom and being frugal, you know going. I don't need this extra thing, i don't need the fancier version of the thing. That's a lot cheaper. You know I can save that money. So keep your expenses as low as possible and do it simply, and it's really great advice. Have you got any sort of final words or parting tidbit, piece of gold or nugget for the listeners?

Speaker 1:

Action, honestly, just action. Anything in life, anything, forget about business. You know if you, if it's a girl that you like, don't say hello You never know And what's the worst that can happen? They're going to say no, well, okay, well, they don't deserve you. If your house is a mess, action Go and clean it. Everything in life is about action. You know you want success. Go and meet people, go and talk to people, go and hang around multimillionaires. If that's what you want, if that's how you feel you're going to be successful. Just about taking action and be positive about it. You're always going to have bad days. You're always going to have good days. Everyone goes through it, and so just go and take action and be positive about it.

Speaker 2:

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much, bobby. Thank you, i'm really, really grateful. You have a fabulous day and I look forward to speaking to you soon, and I hope that listeners got as much out of this as I did. It's just great, wonderful.

Speaker 1:

Thanks for having me, Ed.

Speaker 2:
