(19) I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. (20) For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. (21) What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. (22) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. (23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
I want to dig into what the apostle is saying here by first going to the words of another apostle.
2 Peter 3:15-16 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; (16) As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
When you dig into Paul it would be easy to take what he is saying out of context.
Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
On the surface this is terribly aggravating because John says;
1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
This gets clarified in the coming chapters, but Paul has already told the Romans in chapter 2;
Romans 2:14-15 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: (15) Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
This backs up what Jeremiah says;
Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Our problem in this dispensation of “soundbite Christianity” is people want to take the verse and make an entire doctrine out of it. Moses said, and I try to make this my practice;
Deuteronomy 19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
If we have one scripture stating, let’s go with Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
This is the only scripture in the Word of God that makes this statement in this way. 9 times in the book of Acts people are baptized into the Name of the Messiah and knowing this, denominational Christianity still insists on baptizing according to Matthew 28:19. This goes against maybe not the exact instance of Moses’ statement, but against the working principle that comes from the instruction.
Romans 6:15-16 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. (16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Jesus speaking in John John 8:31-36 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; (32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (33) They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? (34) Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (35) And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. (36) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
This type of freedom is hard to grasp. If you took your sacrifice to the priest under the Levitical priesthood all the priest could do was offer up your sacrifice for you. He had a prescribed order he had to operate under. If you were bound by lust when you went to the priest, he couldn’t help you. If you were bound by alcoholism he may feel bad for you, but there was nothing that priest could do. In function he might as well had been a robot!
That’s why; Hebrews 3:1-6 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; (2) Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. (3) For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. (4) For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. (5) And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; (6) But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
Messiah deals with the sin nature. 2 Peter 1:3-4 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Moses could offer a temporary reprieve, but no matter the offense, Hebrews 10:9-12 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. (10) By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (11) And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: (12) But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Romans 6:18-21 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (19) I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. (20) For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. (21) What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
I’m reminded reading this, especially verse 21, of a story I heard, it may have been on Holy Ghost Radio, of a young woman that was invited to church and she came. She came wearing a mini-skirt, and under the preaching of the Word she became convicted for her salvation, went up front and got the Holy Ghost. She quickly after receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost ran out of the sanctuary. Well of course people were looking for her, wondering what happened that made her run off. She comes back into the sanctuary after pulling the hem out of her skirt trying to get that little bit of extra material in her skirt down over her leg.
She walked in unashamed, but when the Spirit filled her and quickened her mind evidently the first leading she had of the Spirit was telling her she needed to cover her nakedness!
She probably had no idea that she was in the wrong walking into church like that, but when the Spirit came she found herself “ashamed” of what she had been 10 minutes earlier.
Not to go hunting wabbits, but Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? (13) But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
I believe many times well meaning people of God push people away because they are judging those that are without that God is trying to bring in. Sin must be preached about from behind the pulpit, but I think many times God is already working in that persons heart and we become impatient and chase them away. However, if it’s a saint, fire away with wisdom, Paul said we are to judge those that are within.
Romans 6:22-23 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. (23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
But the gift! Ephesians 2:7-10 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. (8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast. (That is the justification Paul speaks of) (10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
(This is the sanctification Paul speaks of!)
