Romans 8:1 KJV There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The Message of Romans, by David Bernard, Pg 173 “Those who are “in” Christ Jesus-those who believe in Him, live in Him, and have Him abiding in them-are under no condemnation. Their record is clear in God’s sight, and their own conscience is clear. The Christian should not let Satan, other people, or his own conscience condemn him for sins of the past. Of course, if he is still living in sin, he should feel condemnation, and this should motivate him to repent and receive forgiveness.

Romans 8:2-3 KJV For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Remember chapter 7 and the dilemma the apostle presented to his readers?

Romans 7:22-25 KJV For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: (23) But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. (24) O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? (25) I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Paul testifies in chapter 7 that the law is good, it’s human nature that is terrible! The answer to the dilemma is;

Romans 8:4 KJV That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

The flesh will tie you up, make you feel worthless for the Kingdom of God, but;

Romans 8:1 KJV There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:5 KJV For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

I know we used this as supporting scripture the last episode, but here it is again;

Colossians 3:1-4 KJV If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (3) For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (4) When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Paul puts it this way in Ephesians;

Ephesians 2:2-3 KJV Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s read on;

Romans 8:6-9 KJV For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

This is why we’re Holy Ghost pushers! There is a doctrine out there, I dare say prevalent in the Pentecostal world, that the Holy Ghost is some sort of “second work of grace” that prepares people for ministry. Well although it is true we all have a ministry of different sorts, he’s plain in verse 9 that if you don’t have the Holy Ghost you aren’t even Christ’s.

Romans 8:10 KJV And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Well hold on a second! If Christ be in you? I thought that we were indwelt with the Spirit of God?

2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

So, we have the Spirit of God, we have the Spirit of Christ, we have the Holy Ghost preached on the day of Acts, but we are oneness and we understand what the apostle says in Ephesians;

Ephesians 4:4-6 KJV There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Romans 8:11 KJV But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

This is the promise that comes with the gift of the Holy Ghost. There are many moral codes out there. There are many laws out there that are just if everyone obeys them, but there is only one promise that I know of anywhere that promises a resurrection.

Many religions have an after life that you spend in Elysium or Hades or some sort of paradise. But your body stays there in the grave. This is what got Paul laughed at in the gentile city of Athens.

Acts 17:29-32 KJV Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. (30) And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (31) Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (32) And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

The created religions of men all want a promise of an afterlife, we have the only promise of an eternal life.

Let me make a couple more points on this to be clear;

Isaiah 26:19 KJV Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

Clearly this is not speaking of some disembodied spirit wandering around, but Paul clarifies this;

1 Corinthians 15:35-44 KJV But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? (36) Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: (37) And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: (38) But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. (39) All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. (40) There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. (41) There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. (42) So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: (43) It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: (44) It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

So, we are sown in corruption, we are raised in incorruption, but Romans puts a sharp point on this one!

Romans 8:11 KJV But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

The hope of our eternal life in and our hope of reward is predicated on the believer having the Holy Ghost! The Holy Ghost is our resurrection!

Romans 8:12-16 KJV Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. (13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

The whole world is in bondage to fear! There are people on this earth that will fight tooth and nail for a couple more years in this body because of the terror of what comes next.

Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; (15) And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

But we have a witness that gives us peace!

Romans 8:16 KJV The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

I very seriously doubt my experience is unique, but I can remember a point of hopelessness in my life, but once repentance came and my life aligned with the Holy Ghost, in an instant the hopelessness, and the turmoil were gone. When you do it His way He sends His peace to bear witness that we are the children of God!
