Sustained heat pushed regional electricity demand sharply higher in July and continued through early August, raising cooling costs for northern Utah households even as lower rates through Rocky Mountain Power reduced the price its customers paid for electricity. Average daily electricity demand across PacifiCorp East rose from 157,276 megawatt-hours in June to 179,901 megawatt-hours in July, an increase of 14.4%, according to hourly data published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
