Women United ART PODCAST

Exploring Tactile Memory and Community with Stacy Isenbarger

Mona Lerch Season 3 Episode 70

Welcome to another episode of the Women United ART PODCAST! Today, we are delighted to feature Stacy Isenbarger, the remarkable artist who won 2nd place in the Women United ART PRIZE 2023 in the Collage & Fiber Art Category. Stacy's artwork is known for provoking a sense of tactile memory, engaging viewers with collisions of materiality within precariously occupied spaces. Her work challenges us to confront the sentimentality of distance and restraint, and the tensions she creates put us at odds with comfort and the familiar, inviting us to confront the shifting air around us.

Stacy’s artistic practice spans sculpture, installation, and mixed-media drawings, with a strong emphasis on supporting community exchange through art. Her creations often remind us of what seems just out of reach, yet still worth pursuing, encouraging a deeper reflection on our interactions with space and memory.

In addition to her vibrant art practice, Stacy is an Associate Professor of Art + Design at the University of Idaho. She splits her time between Moscow, Idaho, USA, and Cardiff, Wales, enriching her creative perspective with diverse cultural experiences. When she's not teaching or creating art—and sometimes even when she is—Stacy finds joy in dancing, an activity that continuously validates her love for community acceptance and the dynamic nature of space.

Join us as we dive into Stacy Isenbarger's artistic journey, exploring the profound themes in her work and the ways she fosters community through art. Discover how her unique perspective and creative pursuits challenge and inspire us to look beyond the familiar and reach for the seemingly unattainable.
