Women United ART PODCAST

Art, Identity & Advocacy with Stephanie Morton-Millstein

Mona Lerch Season 4 Episode 92

Welcome to another episode of Women United ART PODCAST, Season 4, in which Mona chats with Stephanie Morton-Millstein, a Los Angeles-based painter and sculptor whose work explores the ever-evolving cycles of nature, identity, mood, and consciousness. Embracing an intuitive, abstract expressionist style, she allows her mediums—oil and clay—to guide her, layering and sculpting until each piece feels complete. Her creative process is deeply immersive, often unfolding over months in moments of clarity and explosive creativity.

Stephanie’s journey with art began as a form of self-grounding. From childhood, she felt a strong urge to document time and change, drawn to photography as a way to capture fleeting details. Influenced by visionaries like Diane Arbus, Helen Frankenthaler, and Louise Bourgeois, she continues to push the boundaries of her artistic practice.

Beyond her work in the studio, Stephanie is a proud Jewish artist and a passionate advocate, using her voice and platform to fight against antisemitism. In a time when standing up against hate is more critical than ever, she is unwavering in her efforts to combat discrimination and celebrate Jewish identity.

In this episode, we dive into her creative process, artistic influences, and her powerful commitment to advocacy. Join us for a compelling conversation about art as both a deeply personal and profoundly impactful force in the world. Tune in!
