It's hard for a full, grown, well-educated adult to look dignified being on roller skates for the first time (ever). I remember my "baptism" on wheels at the age of 12. I stood up on my roller skates and proceeded to gyrate all over the place only to ultimately fall down hard on my rear end. That's a little bit like experiencing some "changes" in our way of looking at things. If it's new and different it can feel a bit undignified and awkward.
