New Wine, New Skin: Transion During Transformation

When a nation demands a crown it can see, it often loses a King it can trust. We follow Israel’s push for Saul, the missed opportunity to wait for David, and the hidden mechanics of compromise that feel small until they swallow the tent. Along the way, we name the pressures that lure us—comparison, speed, image—and offer a sharper path: sober patience, formed character, and choices that honor God’s timing over our impulses.
We open up the camel-in-the-tent parable as a living picture of drift, then link it to the very present tension many of us feel: a global standoff, frayed systems, and a rising expectation that God is about to pour out new wine. That promise comes with a condition—new wineskins. We explore what it means to lay down good things that no longer stretch, count the cost before saying yes, and receive authority that fits the season. This is not hype. It is the steady work of becoming people who can carry weight without bursting.
We also talk about practicing spiritual gifts with wisdom, the need for safe formation, and how the kingdom shows itself with clear signs: healing, freedom from oppression, and joy that lasts. The victory of Jesus is secure, but the battle is real; our part is willing surrender and faithful stewardship. If you’ve felt the pull to rush a decision, to mimic what “works,” or to cling to an old structure out of fear, this conversation offers clarity, courage, and a next step.

SPEAKER_01Howdy folks, I want to welcome you to another episode of Life Around the Fire. My name is David Rutari. I'll be your host today. We are a podcast that is devoted to spiritual growth. And what we mean by spiritual growth is this growth in our relationship, first and foremost with God, then in our relationships with one another. What I'd like to do today in this episode is continue on with this time of transition that we are in between looking at the life of King Saul and the life of King David, and the transition time in between. And we're wrapping up our look into the life of Saul and his inauguration as King of Israel, and then his rule as king, and we looked at some of the high points and some of the low points, and just the whole scene leading up to his inauguration, which was really a time of Israel, the nation, its leadership, pressuring Samuel, the leader, the judge, the prophet in Israel, excuse me, they wanted a king, like the other nations had a physical king. And up to this point in time, God was Israel's king, and he was the one who was defeating the enemies and making a way for a nation to be born, and a nation that would be known as his people, the nation of Israel. And yet they rejected him as their king because they didn't really have confidence in the people that they saw who were going to be next in line for rulership as judges in Israel, and that would be Samuel's sons. Even though Samuel was a righteous man, his sons didn't follow in the ways of his father. And so they were compromising, to say the least. And they were the ones who were next in line because of the way things worked in the priesthood. The high priest, his son, in his his his next son would be excuse me, the oldest son would be the next high priest. And there would be a lineage of priests under Aaron, who would be the high priest, and then the Levites would be the ones who would take care of the other things that were pertaining to temple service, serving God, and facilitating the sacrifices people brought. And so Israel, though, they had moved away from that lifestyle because they looked at what the other people around them were doing, and it appealed to them. And they started comparing their lives and the lives of the other people, and they saw that things were appealing to them that they weren't allowed to participate in, because ultimately they weren't good for them. But even though they looked at and they liked what they saw, even though it wasn't good for them, they wanted what looked good for them. And it sounds all too familiar to most of us, if not all of us, myself very much included. I want what I want, and I want it. And I did. And it didn't matter who got in the way, I was gonna get what I wanted. And I soon found out that that was not uncommon, that that was really the way of the world. If you don't do it, ain't nobody gonna do it for you. And God is something that is relegated to some religion that people do in order to feel good about doing wrong. It's just a money-making scheme. So, you know, like light light they did there was a whole lot of things that were tempting the people, and they were putting pressure on Samuel to give them a king like the other nations had, because it looked like that was their that was their means to being victorious, because some of the kingdoms that were still active in Canaan were oppressing the people of Israel. And every time Israel would compromise, the other kingdoms would become stronger and overtake Israel. And that seems to be the way it works in life. When we started compromising, it isn't long before the things that we were saying we would never do were doing. Kind of like the camel in the tent story, where there's a person who has a camel and he has a tent. And his tent has only enough room for one person. And so in the desert, one night they're out, and it was time for sleep, and the man sets his tent up and goes in, and the camel's outside, and it got cold. And the camel puts his nose inside the tent and says, Could I just keep my nose inside of here, please? And the owner says, Well, I suppose that'll be all right. So pretty soon the camel squeezes his head in the tent. Could I just put a little bit more? I just I just need to get my ears warm. And it wasn't long before the camel put two of his feet in, and it really started to get very crowded in the tent. And over the course of the evening or the night, I should say, the camel kept inching his way in, and the man started to have to inch his way out until it wasn't long before the man was on the outside of the tent and the camel was on the inside of the tent. The moral of the story is that it is just a little bit that can open up things that become a whole lot larger, like compromising a little bit. And ultimately having that thing that you said you would never do, you're doing the camel got in the tent, and you're now on the outside. Okay, so Israel was you know, they they they wanted what they wanted, and they were gonna get it. So God said to Samuel, give it to him. Even though we know now, because we can look at it in the book of 1 Samuel, chapters 1 through 16, we can see the lead up to this whole transition, and we find that had Israel waited a few more years, 10, 15 years, had they just waited, David was in the wings, getting ready to be anointed by God as the next ruler. And they wouldn't have had to go through the travest it's the travesty of experiencing the negative aspects of kingdom life when there is someone who is not fit to rule. It's just they waited, man. And in my life, I can I I I can I can relate, man. I only waited another year, I wouldn't have gotten in debt had I just waited. Had I had the discipline just to hold off and have delayed gratification, it would have been good. But you know, so so I I I I I I know what it means to I want what I want and I want it now, and I'm gonna get it. And it might really have to be so, so, so, you know egregious as Israel wanting to continue to pursue idol worship, blatant idol worship, and all that went with it, and we don't have time to talk about all of the activity surrounding idol worship, but it makes the things that go on in our culture around the world that are that are degraded, it makes them look like child's play. And that was something that was that culture was being elevated as being the superior way of doing things, because it appealed to the lower base nature of mankind, and that's what we call the world. Society under the influence of evil, the world. And so they were looking at the world, and the world was enticing to them, and they soon found out that the world got in and they were on their way out, but there was gonna be something that happened before that took place, and they were gonna experience something very significant. That's good, and that's where we're going to be leading up to, or entering into, I should say. We're leading up to it. We're just taking a couple of weeks off, and we're gonna be going back in and looking at the the life of David emerging, because I believe it's there's a timing to this. And once again, we around here at Life Runs Fire, we we we know that we are one drop in the ocean, right? Of communication, of information. We're one drop. But we also know that we are one of God's drops, and there's a whole lot of drops that are dropping in the ocean of communication these days, and they have the markings of Jesus on them. It's kind of like, well, you know what? The airways belong to the righteous. Just like wealth belongs to the righteous. I'm not talking about money in Manan. That's a system that belongs to the world.
Personal Transitions And Timing
SPEAKER_00But wealth and wealth can involve money, but wealth wealth righteous wealth, peaceful wealth, joyful wealth.
SPEAKER_01If you have some people who are wealthy about joy, they say, I get it when I get drunk, and that doesn't last very long. I get it when I do this, but by and large, I'm not joyful.
SPEAKER_00I'm miserable.
A Global Standoff And Coming Outpouring
Count The Cost And Lay It Down
SPEAKER_01When you do things according to the world, the thrill lasts only so long. It's unsustainable for a long time. We're not designed for that, we're not built for that. We burn out. But Israel went through a time of transition between Saul being king and David being anointed king, and the light that went on in between then, between that time. And that was a transition. And, you know, I mean, it doesn't take a word of knowledge in a group of people to say, you know, I sense that someone here is going through a transition in life. You could be accurate if there are three people in the room. You're probably gonna find out that your odds are that one of the three are gonna be going through some kind of transition. So it doesn't take a a master's word of knowledge for that. Or, you know, we're in a time of transition. Well, I mean, that can be said about society at any point in time that there's a transition going on. I mean, there's a transition from spring to summer, there's a transition from one administration to the next. There's a transition. So, you know, understand the fact that there's transitions. And it also transitions in the spiritual realm. And here's where we're gonna take a little bit of time and release some of these more prophetic elements to this ministry, and that is talking about the times that we're living in. Whether you're looking at the Hebrew calendar or the Gregarian calendar, we're in a time historically, of transition. We looked at the world around us and we could see there's a standoff going on right now. The year 2026 AD. And we're in a standoff. We're in a transition. There's a transition from one way of doing things to another way of doing things, and there's gonna be a period of time where there's gonna be a significant surge of God demonstrating his kingdom in a very, very, very pronounced way, a very sovereign way. He's gonna display his mighty right arm to the world at large, across the nations, a revelation of Jesus, like no one's ever seen before. It's gonna be so clear that it will almost be as though he's here, because his presence is gonna be so strong across the waters. We don't have to say, let's go here to experience the presence of the Lord. Let's go here to experience the presence of the Lord. No, if you hear that, don't go, because you can wait upon the Lord and He will renew your strength, but he'll also show up in a powerful way. He's doing it. We're experiencing the raindrops now, but it's gonna pour. We're experiencing water's flow, but it's gonna go over our heads. This is a big deal, folks. We're in a major transition. The armies of the world are in a standoff. Can you imagine what's going on in the heavenlies right now? In the heavenlies, there's a standoff of ethnic proportions going on right now. And this is a time of counting the cost, man. Counting the cost. It's gonna cost us something to be involved in what's going on. Our price of citizenship has been paid. But in order for us to move on in the things of the kingdom, at times we have to lay things down. They might even be things that we used at one point in time and they were good things. But it's now time to lay them down because they're not new skin for the new wine. New wine needs new skin. And God is giving new skin. He's given new skin, and he's giving new skin. Hallelujah. Some of you who are young have been given new skin. You have the ability to expand and see things differently. As the kingdom expands within you, it doesn't burst out and create a mess. It expands and people can get refreshed from what the kingdom provides. But we are in a time of transition. Standoff. And Jesus is victorious, the victory is secure, but the battle is real, and the battle belongs to the Lord. Are you willing to enter into the battle? You gotta count the cost. A wise king counts the cost before he declares war to make sure that he's got enough supply to fulfill what he said he's gonna do. Otherwise, he gets into it and has to withdraw, and it's a shame, and the worst things are worse as a result of it because he stirred up trouble.
SPEAKER_00Count the cost.
New Wine Needs New Skin
SPEAKER_01Count the cost before you say, Yep, I'm in, I'm in. Well, yeah, yeah, I I I I agree. It's good to say I'm in. I mean to say with all everything and with exuberance, I'm in. But only after you've counted the cost. And also are you willing to lay down things, even if they're good things, in order to get things that are the best things.
SPEAKER_00Something that's something that's a promotion. You have to let go of the old job in order to get the new job.
SPEAKER_01You gotta get old things of the way that we've done them, the way that they have been done, sometimes they need to be let go of. There are times we can build on them, but other times you gotta let go of them, man. The old wineskin. But the good news is that there's new wineskin. We don't have to have the old wineskin. And one of the sheer ways to find out if you got new wine, is pour it in the old wineskin and see what happens. I know what'll happen. It'll explode. I've been in it when it's happened. Put a little bit of new wine in an old wineskin and gablowy, man. You got ten church splits on your hand. Man. But you know what? Through it all, through it all, Jesus is victorious. It's already been decided. In fact, it's already been done. That's the unique thing about life is that we are already seated with Christ in heavenly places, but here we are right now.
SPEAKER_00We are experiencing resurrection life, seated with Christ, and here we are right now.
Practicing Gifts With Wisdom
SPEAKER_01God is an amazing God, and there are things that are in store for us. There are promotions in store for you if you're willing to count the cost and lay the old stuff down. Count the cost and lay the old stuff down. Count the cost and lay the old stuff down. Receive the new privilege and responsibility, meaning the new authority, to function in the power that you've been given so that there could be a demonstration of the kingdom of God that's real, not some phony thing that's drummed up because we have some sort of sense about something. It's all right to practice and have places where you can practice safe, away from you know harm. But giving people information or trying to if you just have a sense of it, you don't put That don't know how to hit a hundred mile an hour fastball in a major league game when they're six years old.
SPEAKER_00They won't be able to do it.
Life In The Kingdom And Its Signs
SPEAKER_01They won't be able to play. Same thing goes with us experiencing certain things of the supernatural realm. Man, it is available in the new wine, meaning it's part of the kingdom of God. There are only certain things that are allowed in, and they're amazing things, and there are other things that are not allowed in, like sickness, poverty, oppression. These things are not part of the kingdom. So we can say when the kingdom is at hand, that's what we are administering is the kingdom of God when we see healing, when we see deliverance. It's the kingdom of God touching that situation.
SPEAKER_00Because that's what life is like in the kingdom. Hallelujah. Yeah, man.
SPEAKER_01We're going through a time of transition, and there is a standoff going on, and the victory belongs to the Lord, and the battle is going to be won, and there's going to be many, many victory stories, but it's time to count the cost. If you're called to lay down the old wineskin and get some new wine, you've got to lay down the old marching orders to get the new ones to walk in them.
SPEAKER_00Let's pray. Father, thank you.
Prayer, Commission, And Closing
SPEAKER_01Thank you, God, once again for who you are and for how you're doing things, why you're doing them, where you're doing them. Hallelujah. You are worthy. And we lift up the name of Jesus and we say, Jesus, we worship you. We honor you. We praise you. We adore you. Glorify yourself, glorify your name in all the earth. To us and through us. Help us host and steward your glory, Lord.
SPEAKER_00And that we can walk in the beauty of holiness and experience rich fellowship with you and with one another. With peace, with righteousness, with joy in the Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_01We declare these things to be true. And your kingdom come, your will be done in earth as it is in heaven. In the name of Jesus, we stand here and we say amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.
