Crape Myrtle

Lagerstroemia spp.

Appearance: The myrtle tree has supple branches and oval leaves. The flowers grow in bunches and are deep purple to pink or white and have a crinkled appearance from which the tree gets its name.

In the Old Testament, myrtle trees were a symbol of divine generosity. The myrtle was one of the trees used in the Feast of Tabernacles, which commemorated God’s provision while they wandered in the desert.

And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.
