Canadian Australian from Melbourne. Wow, a little bit going on there. Hence the name, I guess, Fall Weather. Quite a mixer. Yeah, it is. Mix of this, mix of that. I like what you did. SPEAKER_03Uh I said get into the news. Let's do a very quick tour out because there's been some highlights, some low lights, and some lights already this week. So I thought, why not just rip a few of these band-aids off?
SPEAKER_02Start with the good news, the bad news.
SPEAKER_03Let's start with the bad news, go through the medium news, and then uh wind up at the uh the good news. Are we talking about we are Post Malone has post-poponed Sam? That was one of the funniest comments I've seen. It's not bad from the from whoever that was, but excellent stuff. Uh the so he was on schedule to be on the Stowing Bird lineup, uh which was going to hit town in October uh in Ballarat. No, Geelong, somewhere in Victoria, um the Sunshine Coast and Newcastle. But he has delayed both those shows and his uh solo tour with Don Toliver. Um if you're if you had tickets to Stowing Bird, you can get refunds based on the fact that that lineup has had such a big change. They've brought in James Johnson and a couple of other people to cover the gap, but there are a fair few people who obviously want their tickets back, they want to go for the post-Malone show. Yes. Totally understandable. Um, and yeah, that uh you'd have he's he's definitely said postpone rather than cancel. So hopefully that means there is something else down the line from him. But I know a lot of people who are really keen to just go see Don Tolliver as well.

SPEAKER_03But so that's the bad news. Postmalone has uh postponed the both his appearance at Stonebird and his full tour. Now for the news, Sam. The the lights, you know, that was hard to watch. I like to watch.
SPEAKER_02I tried to maintain eye contact and scale a whole coating of sugar while looking at Max. I think my stomach might explode. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03We'll give this man a minute because he's about to die. As he goes back in for a second swig, you know what? I didn't quite get enough of the full bottle of coke. Keep it down, sir.

SPEAKER_03So uh Long Haul Festival, another music uh country music festival was meant to be uh coming up this or sorry, next year in January, um was headlined by or was said to be headlined by Casey Musgraves as well as a few other people at Came Brown. Uh that has fully cancelled. So um, while that is not good news for the festival in particular holders, there's a lot of chatter online about how Casey Musgraves will now probably just uh announce a solo tour um doing some arenas or some probably not stadiums at this point, but some big arenas. Um seeing some of the footage of her shows uh from around the world. She comes into the stadium on a disco ball that looks like balls. Uh very cool.
SPEAKER_02Nice vibey. I have a theory. Here we go. So with Long Hall Festival being cancelled, Strummingbird having to re-jig their lineup now post-melone cancelled. Do we think the country trend that a lot of beige people were getting behind has led to the country revival in Australia being affected?
SPEAKER_03Uh no, I don't think so because like Gimpy Musicmaster, true, CMC Rocks, Denai Ute Master, like all like they're still massive mainstream music f Country Music Festival events. I think what we might be discovering is for a lot of people who for a lot of festivals that trying to we're trying to get onto that trend, like as newcomers, there's some challenges. So long haul facing, you know, not being an established brand within, you know, it also was at the same time as Tamworth Country Music Festival. If you're trying to drive music fans away from Tamworth, like you got a lot to compete with. So I I certainly don't think there's any problem with country music festivals in general at all in Australia. I think it's that for newcomers that wanted to kind of capitalise on that that may not have the name or the you know the the uh the pedigree, I think um that might be where they might be struggling. But I think in general, both like postmone and Casey Masgraves, two massive names in the industry right now. Um, I think probably probably more of a description about the costs of festivals and putting them on Australia. Does cost a lot. Does cost a lot.

SPEAKER_03Well, I'll just have good algorithms, Sam. Anyway, uh, one final piece before we get to the suitcase, Sam, is I wanted to shout out the ARIA charts for being mad dogs. They often are mad dogs, but they are especially mad dogs right now. They announced last week that uh there's gonna be changes made to the way that the songs get counted in the Aria charts. For anyone who's international aria charts are our billboard charts, they're the charts. And for our Spanish listeners, uh it's the big solo song and an opera. Um the the so the aria charts have announced that they will be removing or not counting songs that are either wholly or substantially AI generated. So there goes pretty much all of the AI slot that we already know. The there is some nuance down to what constitutes substantially AI generated. So they've said, for instance, it's not uh this is not a catch-all, but for instance, any song where the vocal is um AI generated will be ineligible. Yeah, and any song where the lead instrumentation is AI generated will be largely taken off. So I imagine if you're Or you know, if it's a rock kind of song and guitar is the the lead thing and that's AI generated, that's out of there. If it's a an EDM banger and there's you know the Synthie bits and the drops are EDM generated, I think that's out of there. I think it will come down to interpretation some of the time. And I'm sure there'll be those edge cases where we're like, should this be in, shouldn't there be this be in? But I think as a general rule, this is a pretty good win for human-created art.
SPEAKER_02Huge win. I think the sooner we can get away from AI the better. There's nothing I dislike more than talking to people who love AI. I love AI, it's so helpful. Fuck off. Just because you have to write an email this time, Susan. Beat my ass. Honestly, I hate AI so much.
SPEAKER_03I think I do appreciate that, as we've often said on the show, the as I've contended on the show, I think there's a space for AI as a tool or a single instrument within songs. Um and I like that Aria has allowed some movement in that because I think we'll start to see people experimenting with their like blending human and AI created art in one piece. And I think we have to have space for that. Even in the space of it just being is this art kind of thing, like that conversation. So I like that there's some nuance in there. It's not a hard and no AI whatsoever. Um, but I think it's really good to say this chart very much is primarily focused on human creation to some degree.

So just a little quick example that's what we're doing this week.

SPEAKER_03Uh Sam, I took a little sojourn over the weekend down to the city of churches, Adelaide. And I had I was talking to a uh a young cousin of mine, and I was talking about how good the Adelaide scene is right now. So I thought, here's five Adelaide bands that you need to get amongst because that scene is blowing up. This first one, we've talked about them probably too much. I'd say ad nauseum, but it's it's rare that you and I uh kind of come together on a band this much. Um the band is Blinder, and this song is Chrome. Hell yeah. This, like I'm I'm gonna hold my fire on making full decisions about this band until I've seen them live this week at Big Sound. Yes. But I think they're on track to be one of the most important heavy bands in the Australian scene at the moment. They just they it's so good. This is Chrome, it's towards the end of the song, and this is just think like that the new loath album. This could fit right in there. Um, get ready, prepare yourself.
SPEAKER_02The sick thing about Blinder is they have different members who can do vocal. Yes, yes. That to me, like 480 that we for 480p that we brought to the show the other day was very shoegazed with the female vocal. That feels almost if Thornhill stripped it back a little bit and just went rock. Yep. There's they're gonna be such a big deal.
SPEAKER_03I think across that AP, there's so many different sounds that they love playing with, and it there's just it's good. It's good, it's good stuff.
SPEAKER_02The yeah, the momentum that are that is behind Blind are coming into Big Sound's insane. Like every year at Big Sound, there's one band that comes in with ha ha ha like everyone's talking about this one band. Last year it was Southern River band, this year it definitely feels like Blind R.
SPEAKER_03But so yeah, we go when we see them live. Uh Sam, next one is if you're more into the indie rock kind of thing, the Talamoraines, friends of the show. Uh, they've they've got like their hooks are so catchy, it is ridiculous. I think they're gonna be really occupying that sort of indie rock, pop rock kind of sound, that space for the next little while because it's just so like they're just so good at crafting such a good hook. Uh, this song is called Loser. It's a couple years old, I think it's about 2024 now, but it's just such a banger, I can't get it out of my lip out of my head sometimes. Yeah. Catchy. The hooks are just fun. Yeah, just fun, hooky, vibey. Fun in the sun. Sam, uh, next up, um, a bit more on the heavy side again. Win big. We've been talking a bit about this band. I brought them to the show a little while back um with uh one of their really one of their songs from their new album. And this is another one off that album called Gates to Heaven. It's a bit pop bit pop punk, a bit hardcore, like almost like a violence soho, but slightly heavier. Um, I think they're like kind of a six spiritual successor to that band. Yep. Um, they've got the riffs that are gonna get like huge pits, but then there's still and melodic, and the instrumentation is interesting, interesting enough that I think they're quite accessible. Yeah so if you are a bit on the fence with when it comes to hardcore, I think Wind Big would be a good way in. Okay. Uh this is Gates to Heaven. Also, this is a hella short song. They're whole they packed ten songs into a 21-minute record. So yeah. They they they go by to clip. I thought I'd give us both parts there. That's a bit of hardcore. You're not hardcore unless you have hardcore. Sam, lest ye think I'm all about the guitars. Got a bit of uh EDM electronica for you as well. Lonely spec, um, think kind of hyperpop meets EDM. So many different sounds all together in one song where it shouldn't work, but it does. Um dropped an album last year, uh, played a big sound last year as well, and I just think some someone who I think we need to keep an eye on because I think there's so much going on with this uh with Lonely Spec that I really want to kind of watch where they go. Uh, this is Tether, um, and just best of luck keeping up with this one. That's it. Yeah, it just works. It just It does. You think, what the fuck? Oh, oh, oh every time. Every fucking time. And Sam, one for the pop girlies, like me. Uh, George Alice, she's been on the scene for a little while, uh, but had a bit of a blow-up off the back of being included in the off-campus uh soundtrack for the the show, um, with I believe this song with with SOS and also works with friend of the show Dan from Towns. Hell yeah. Think kind of that pop EDM sort of space, like very much waiting to blow up as kind of one of those alternate pop sh pop artists. Um so fucking good. So this is SOS by George Ellis.
