Andrea: Yeah, trichlor has gotten a bit of a bad rap in recent years because it can increase the cyanuric acid levels in swimming pools. But the truth is, every chemical we use to treat pools increases multiple parameters in water chemistry.

Rudy: That's right. Trichlor is just one of many chemicals that can affect pool chemistry. But what makes trichlor unique is its acidity.

Andrea: Exactly. Trichlor is highly acidic, which makes it effective at killing black algae. Black algae is notoriously difficult to get rid of, but trichlor's acidity can break through its protective layer and kill it off.

Rudy: And while trichlor may increase cyanuric acid levels, there are ways to manage it. Regularly testing and balancing the water chemistry can help keep cyanuric acid levels in check.

Andrea: That's right. And in fact, trichlor can be a good option for certain pool owners, especially those with black algae issues. It's all about using the right chemical for the right situation.

Rudy: And speaking of using the right chemical, it's important to note that trichlor should never be used in a feeder or floater. It's too acidic and can damage the equipment.

Andrea: Absolutely. Trichlor should always be added directly to the pool while the pump is running. And as with any chemical, it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and use the proper safety equipment.

Rudy: So, to sum it up, trichlor may have a bad rap for increasing cyanuric acid levels, but its acidity can be a benefit in killing black algae. With proper management and use, trichlor can be a valuable tool for pool professionals.
