welcome to mom cave live um this is a live show that we've been doing for a while on YouTube through google hangout and tonight is the very first time we are trying it here on facebook um the reason that we're trying it on Facebook is because apparently that's where moms hang out we're too old for snapshot where the right age for facebook so here we are we're on facebook finally doing this live well gosh if no one's ever seen us before on facebook i guess who should introduce ourselves I'm Jen from mom cave and this is a antenna is my partner here or in crime hey Dina and Tom guest and this is a very very special guest because we're going to start doing a feature on mom cave called hashtag badass moms and we need to define like the ultimate in badass moms and I think we have Jordan us is the founder of breastfeeding and combat boots Robin hi Robin hello y'all are going to embarrass me with all this badass mom stuff that's okay we've determined that you are about us and we wanted to talk to you a little bit about what you do and what badass moms means to you right so though as i said i'm the founder of breastfeeding and combat boots which is I guess about as badass as you can get serving your country and in effect kind of my my little tagline is giving the breast for baby and country it takes pretty strong woman to to do that to be strong enough to serve her country and also you know give give the breast for for her baby and you know you were talking about badass moms and I was thinking in my head some of the moms that I've worked with over the years sending their milk home while they're stationed in Afghanistan pumping their milk while they're out on the range in between weapons qualls pumping in the back of a humvee and I can think of you know you're police officers pump it in their patrol car or Annie t in the back of the ambulance those those kinds of things so yeah there's lots of badass moms out there Wow while we have you I want to think yeah I want to thank you for your service and all the badass moms that work with you as well thank you we got you same here in here it is it makes us feel a lot less badass because we complain about pumping in our car on the way home from an audition t-then but uh yeah yeah that kind of thing but anyway I'm I'm fascinated by deployed members the military sending the rest milk home how does not work yeah so there's there's there's a bit of getting it all kind of kind of together so of course they've got to find time to pump while there while they're out there in between you know Afghanistan getting bombed for heaven's sake so finding the time to pump and then they've got to get it frozen they've got to package it up they've got to figure out how to get it to UPS FedEx DHL you know some way to to get it shipped out and the one story i'm kind of thinking of with with the mom that did this most of her most of her pumped milk made it home just fine but it had to go through customs and in one instance she was sending it through and it was held up by the Department of Agriculture because it was an animal milk and they had to get home at nerium and because it got held up so long that one she didn't didn't make it because the milk at that point started to thaw and and they had to ditch that entire igloo cooler full of it don't don't razeen but got it can be done moms do ship it from from overseas or if they're here in the states and there's some kind of training or something like that they they can ship it um you know obviously across state lines that sort of thing so yeah lots of planning on that one wow that's amazing you know where there's a will there's a way I've got a picture of a mom that was out doing training out in the you know the eastern part of Washington state and she was out there for a couple of weeks and she had a Yeti cooler and those things keep stuff really really cold and there's a picture of her with that thing full of her frozen milk and she was pumping washes out there and gonna bring it bring it all home with her wow that's amazing syndication that's dedication yes yes yeah well it makes me think about how it's not just about breastfeeding however moms choose to feed their babies or or whatever we do as mom's we have to put so much thought into like the planning and the logistics of it and if you want to be a working mom um even more so and a huge amount of such a way I'm he's these guys are consider that are taking our lunch break it or not eating for themselves because they've only got a little limited amount of time you know one of the things that the military they have policies in place and that's all fine and great when the following policies are followed but a lot of times the mission comes first and so that takes precedence and you got to fit in that pumping session even it's only five minutes wherever wherever you can so that's that's definitely an issue as well do you have any embarrassing breastfeeding stories to share with us embarrassing we like to embarrass people mmm my own embarrassing breastfeeding story I don't know how embarrassing it is um I was at work and you know I kind of didn't say what my own thing was I was I was active duty in the Navy and I was an aircraft mechanic when I was in I've now switched gears and of course in the lactation consultant and this was before there were any policies anything kind of covering me and so I had to make do and kind of pump whenever I could figure it out and there was no backup for me and so I had been at work for 12 hours and they came to me and said oh you've got to stay another six and stand watch out on the flight line sandy watch is just what it sounds like I got a walk around the hangar bay and make sure nobody's trying to steal airplanes I have been pumping all day my bottles were full i had no more space for any kind of milk and i was a wonderful producer so I had tons of milk and I'm looking at these bottles going what am I gonna do it this milk I'll be damned if I'm going to pour this down the drain I worked too hard for it so you know what I did back it went green cap one haha reuse recycle night and um so if people think that's embarrassing maybe so I you do what you need to do and then I had a freed up bottle so I can I could pump and take some more home for my baby boy wow that's amazing yeah what is the bigger never occurred to me you do them cool i'm sorry i said i need to draft you go ahead go ahead I never occurred to me when I was ever in a situation like that to drink the milk and reuse it like that's brilliant oh I once had someone walk in on me when I was in the restroom like hand expressing cuz I was it hurt so bad he and I was tough work and somebody walked in and I'm like hi how are you um I wish I would have thought of your idea and so if anybody ever asked me what it does I can honestly tell them what it tastes like it is very sweet now they need ice cream out of it okay yeah were there is one buddy makes ice cream out of it wasn't that like over in Britain or something like that somebody was somebody was making ice cream from human breast milk yeah it would get there from the work is super sweet no sugar necessary what is the biggest thing you want people to know about your organization like the thing that if you can get across anyone that you're you know that we should really know the most breastfeed no combat boots is here for for any mom military active duty guard reserves I think I said earlier your first responders so police firefight or any of these kinds of the back saying hey you did a really great job and that means the world when you're out there on the range pumping or you've been sent out for two weeks to the eastern Washington State and nobody else is doing this and you're like do I keep doing this do i keep getting up at two o'clock in the morning when I haven't slept and I'm dirty and I'm filthy and I'm hand expressing because there's no electricity out here is it worth it for me to keep doing this yes it is worth it for you to keep doing it and we're here to tell you that you're doing a great job and that you are indeed a badass mom
