Episode #59: Helping Local Employers Retain Talent
Show Notes

In episode #59 of the Voice of Business podcast, we sat down with Nicole Lim, director of Movers and Shakas. The company helps Hawaii employers retain talented employees who have recently relocated to Hawaii by providing a six-week place-based acculturation program. When Movers and Shakas launched in 2020, Nicole wrote an op-ed in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser opposing the program. After reading her article, Movers and Shakas reached out to Nicole to explain their mission and then asked her to join the company. Nicole has been the Executive Director ever since. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, she traveled the world and worked as an “analog nomad” for five years.

In this episode, Nicole talks about why Hawaii needs this program to hold everyone accountable for serving the community. She also discusses her experience integrating into other cultures and suggests things people new to the Islands should consider to build authentic relationships.
