James was not condemning wealth. He was confronting misplaced worship. God is not anti-rich — he is anti-greed. He is not anti-abundance — he is anti-idolatry. The question is simple: does money have you? Whether you have much or are still sowing in faith, God is calling us to trust in him over gold, to give rather than withhold, and to live for something far greater than personal comfort. As Deuteronomy 8:18 reminds us, it is God who gives us the power to get wealth — and he gives it to establish his purposes, not just our own.
