The Ugly Quacking Duck Podcast

Is Sunny Gunning For Top Spot?

Bruce Season 5 Episode 122

The moment Bruce steps away from the microphone, Sunny seizes his chance to commandeer episode 122 of the Ugly Quacking Duck Podcast. What follows is a heartwarming blend of family banter, youthful entrepreneurship, and our signature look at global events through a small-town Midwestern lens.

Young Lily joins us with exciting news about "Slime & Shine," her upcoming business venture with friend Anna. The enthusiasm in her voice is palpable as she details their dollar store inspiration and plans to launch in October. We explore the fascinating journey of youth entrepreneurship, from spontaneous idea to careful business planning. There's something magical about witnessing the birth of a business dream through a child's eyes - complete with all the optimism and creativity that adults sometimes lose along the way.

Between discussions of restarting Lily's original podcast ("Everyone Being Human") and her upcoming WWE Raw event, we deliver our regular weather and earthquake reports. The contrast between our pleasant 70-degree Southern Illinois afternoon and Phoenix's scorching 102-degree heat provides perspective, while our earthquake update reveals a troubling increase to 2,116 seismic events worldwide this week.

The mood turns somber as we discuss Afghanistan's devastating earthquake that claimed over 2,200 lives despite being only magnitude 6.0. Through accessible explanation of how building materials and infrastructure quality impact earthquake outcomes, we help listeners understand global events without overwhelming them. Lily's innocent observation that "natural disasters shouldn't happen" captures the simple wisdom that often comes from young voices.

As we wrap up with updates on Hurricane Kiko and predictions for a turbulent Midwest winter, we're reminded why we podcast - to create moments of lightheartedness amid life's challenges and to build connections across generations. Speaker 02:

Hi everybody, this is Sunny from the Ugly Quacking Duck Podcast. And we are, well actually, I'm recording. I'm recording from the Midwest studio, our main hideout. Bruce has kind of had to leave. He set up the recording studio and then had to leave real quickly. He'll be back in a minute. But I thought, hey, I'm going to record while he's gone. Maybe he won't catch me. Anyhow, welcome aboard. If you've not listened to our podcast before, then tell us. Yeah. We got an email, but I'll wait till Bruce gets back to tell you. But if you listened to us before, then you know how crazy Bruce is. He's kind of wild, but I keep him toned down. You know, somebody has to. I hope when you listen to this, you find enjoyment from the podcast because we do it so you can have a little bit of lightheartedness in your life. instead of all the negative. So we try not to cover a lot of negativity. And I'm here. I'm sunny. I bring that sunshine in. There you go. And he has an outline over here. He's written down kind of a guide for him. And it says episode 122. So we're on recording 122 episode. I know. I'm kind of nervous. That's why I'm giggling so much. But I'm about to get caught. I think he's coming. I hear him walking. Oh no, the door's getting ready to open.

Speaker 01:

What are you doing? I can't leave for five minutes and you take over? Oh my gosh.

Speaker 02:

Now how did you know I was recording?

Speaker 01:

Well, I seen the record button lit up. It's pretty obvious.

Speaker 02:

Oh, yeah. Didn't think about that.

Speaker 01:

Well, I hope you don't do that very often, and I'll try not to leave everything hooked up and take off and come back. But I just had to run, fix me something to drink, a little snack, you know, get it ready to go before I sat down in front of the microphone. Didn't believe something. Sonny would do that, but I guess he did.

Speaker 02:

Well, I didn't do much. I just said, welcome, everybody, and I kind of did the intro that you normally do, but there you go. I

Speaker 01:

really can't get too mad at you, Sonny, because if the roles were reversed, I'd probably done the same thing, so I won't pick on you today. I hope you do a good job of introduction because I'll probably leave it. You know how much I hate editing.

Speaker 02:

I was counting on that. Yeah. Well, I tried to do a really good job and really proactive about the podcast.

Speaker 01:

Well, I'll see how it sounds when we get back to the editing part and we do the post. Up on the volume and everything, we'll We'll hear it and we'll go, ooh. But knowing you, Sonny, it was probably pretty awesome.

Speaker 02:

Wow, you actually said I was awesome.

Speaker 01:

Well, Sonny, I'm not sure that is exactly right or exactly what I was thinking. But okay, I'll admit it. Some days you're awesome.

Speaker 02:

Well, I'm glad you finally admitted it. Who's sitting over on that other desk?

Speaker 01:

That would be our new guest. She snuck in just a second ago. She's new, but she's not new. She's new because she don't come very often. She's back in school. But everybody welcome Lily! Who am I again?

Speaker 03:

Lily! Yeah. I'm back. I'm

Speaker 02:

back. Hi, Lily. Good to hear you. Good to see you. Good to be with you.

Speaker 03:

Good to be here, too.

Speaker 01:

Lily's on our new microphone. Well, one of them. She's on the pod mic. We moved mics around again and I gave Sunny a different mic and I put the pod mic over there on her desk.

Speaker 03:

Yeah.

Speaker 01:

So we'll have to see how she sounds today. I

Speaker 03:

hope I sound good.

Speaker 01:

You sound good. I

Speaker 03:

sound good.

Speaker 01:

Well, I hope so for the podcast sake.

Speaker 03:

Me too.

Speaker 01:

But I'm glad you back here.

Speaker 03:

I'm glad I'm back.

Speaker 01:

We're making plans to start a podcast. No, not start. What do you call that? Restart your old podcast back up.

Speaker 03:

Yep.

Speaker 01:

I think it's still on Spotify. I

Speaker 03:

can look it up right now.

Speaker 01:

I haven't looked in a long time.

Speaker 03:

I will look it up.

Speaker 01:

If it's not on there, we'll just have to redo it.

Speaker 03:

Yeah.

Speaker 01:

I don't even know if your email is still available.

Speaker 03:

My Bubbles Got Clouds one.

Speaker 01:

What to see.

Speaker 03:

Because that email account got hacked, so I had to make a new

Speaker 01:

one.

Speaker 03:

Email account.

Speaker 01:

Well, you didn't have that email

Speaker 03:

account. Oh, I didn't?

Speaker 01:

No, that's one I signed up

Speaker 03:

for you. But

Speaker 01:

while she's looking, we'll go ahead and say hello. After that introduction by Sunny, it's been an interesting day. We started...

Speaker 03:

It's not on there anymore.

Speaker 01:

It's not?

Speaker 03:

It's not.

Speaker 01:

Okay. Well, we may have to just start all over. I

Speaker 03:

can look on Apple Podcasts.

Speaker 01:

We may just have to rebrand it and start a whole brand new one.

Speaker 03:

We might. We might have to.

Speaker 01:

Sounds like a plan. Sounds like

Speaker 03:

a plan.

Speaker 01:

So tune in. Keep tuning in. And maybe we will get that going and we'll let everybody know what's going on. Yes.

Speaker 02:

In the meantime, Bruce has something important to say.

Speaker 01:

I do. Yes,

Speaker 03:

you do. I

Speaker 01:

think Lily's wanting to talk to us a little bit. We may do that. All right, well, look that up, and we'll see if it's still going. I think she typed wrong.

Speaker 03:

Yeah, guys, it's not everyone being human. It's still on there.

Speaker 01:

So it's on...

Speaker 03:

The frog. I still have the frog as my thing.

Speaker 01:

Well, that's cool.

Speaker 03:

That's

Speaker 01:

cute. That must be where Sonny got the idea. Is that where you got the idea, Sunny?

Speaker 02:

Oh, you figured it out. I wasn't going to tell nobody.

Speaker 01:

That is cool. That's where Sonny got that idea. Be a frog.

Speaker 03:

My first day. My very first time I ever started a podcast was june 24th 2023

Speaker 01:

so it's been over a year you got to get back to that thing i

Speaker 03:

had to get back i need to get

Speaker 01:

back i wonder when your last episode was march

Speaker 03:

22nd 2024 was my last episode

Speaker 01:

now wait a minute you started june

Speaker 03:

i started june 2023

Speaker 01:

and then 23 okay

Speaker 03:

yeah

Speaker 01:

yeah we got to get back to that

Speaker 03:

we

Speaker 01:

do so it's been a year over a year since you did an episode Yes. We may have to rebrand it and, you know, think about it. You was still in grade school, wasn't you? I

Speaker 04:

was still in fourth or fifth grade.

Speaker 01:

Well, we'll have to look at rebranding it and, you know.

Speaker 03:

Yeah.

Speaker 01:

You need to start shooting towards junior high and high school kids.

Speaker 03:

Oh. Yeah. I'll be in high school two years.

Speaker 01:

Yeah. So, yeah, there we go. Freshman. Yeah. Do you remember when we first started the podcast and I asked you to come over there to the garage and help me out? You said, I will.

Speaker 03:

Yeah.

Speaker 01:

And you did. And it was great.

Speaker 03:

That's actually where this picture came from.

Speaker 01:

Well, yeah. There's a lot of fun in podcasting. Sunny and I really enjoy it. I mean, we're never probably going to make much money at it, if any. Well... It would be nice to convert some of these hardware and software costs into...

Speaker 03:

Mostly, I think YouTube will pay you for your podcast. It just has to be like you have to have a certain amount of followers.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, they don't pay...

Speaker 03:

Likes and stuff. TikTok might pay you if you post enough. Yeah.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, if you post enough. If you

Speaker 03:

post enough.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, and if you get a great big following, you can make a little bit of money, but it's not about the money. It's about the hobby, about being able to make people laugh or cry or whatever your anticipation of your podcast is. But yeah, that's the plan. So look forward to that to our listeners and all of our community. Yeah, maybe we can get that going for Lily and She can be back on the air. That's what I like to call it. Back to the radio times. Back to the

Speaker 03:

radio times.

Speaker 01:

I did hear... Wow, I just dropped my pencil.

Speaker 02:

Yeah, he dropped his pencil.

Speaker 01:

Anyway, always got to be a smart egg.

Speaker 03:

Hi, hello, we're right here.

Speaker 01:

Anyway, I heard that the IRS was doing some kind of, I don't know, I don't even know exactly how they determined what they were doing. What is the

Speaker 03:

IRS?

Speaker 01:

Internal Revenue Service. Those are the ones that do your taxes.

Speaker 03:

Oh, okay.

Speaker 01:

Makes sense. They were working, I don't know who they were working with, but that they were working with somebody to start a new program where people like servers, dishwashers, chefs.

Speaker 03:

Waiters, restaurant owners.

Speaker 01:

No, not the owners.

Speaker 03:

Oh, just the restaurant

Speaker 01:

workers? Just the workers, yeah. I don't know if hairstylist was in that list or not, but I heard of the list. But the main thing that caught my ear was digital creators. And podcast people were listed in that. Oh. Was not going to have to pay taxes up to $25,000. Well, that's good

Unknown:

because I'm not even willing to pay

Speaker 01:

taxes. Now, that hasn't passed yet. Oh. No. And it's still being

Speaker 03:

processed?

Speaker 01:

Yeah. It's still being talked about whether they want to do it. Good. The old law was if you made less than $500, you didn't even have to claim it.

Speaker 03:

Oh.

Speaker 01:

But... my fear is if that passes then you're going to have to claim everything you make even if it's five cents then they're going to know everything you're doing so it will be good in some ways but bad in others

Speaker 03:

speaking of business

Speaker 02:

Yeah, speaking of business, well, let's hope we make $25,000 and we will not have to pay tax.

Speaker 03:

I don't think we would make $25,000. I don't

Speaker 01:

either. Wishes are

Speaker 03:

wishes.

Speaker 01:

We would be lucky if we make enough to pay for the hosting, the webpage, and some of the equipment that we've already invested in. Yeah. But when I got into podcasting, it wasn't for any of that. It was to have fun. And we hope we find listeners that will join our community and be part of the gang. And that's what we're in it for.

Speaker 03:

The Scooby gang.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, the ugly quacking duck gang. So, anyhow, Lily actually has something she wants to talk about.

Speaker 03:

I do?

Speaker 01:

Yes. She has come up with an idea, and I think it's pretty cool. Her and a friend is wanting to do something, and do you want to tell us?

Speaker 03:

We're happy to.

Speaker 01:

All right. Do you want to wait and see if you can get her on the phone?

Speaker 03:

She's probably busy, but I can just tell you guys right now.

Speaker 01:

Okay. You tell us right now, and we will listen. Wait a minute. There you go. There's a heartbeat. I

Speaker 03:

would rather take the drum rolls.

Speaker 01:

Oh, I can do that too.

Speaker 03:

Do that too?

Speaker 01:

I can.

Speaker 03:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 01:

As soon as I find it.

Speaker 03:

As soon as I find it. That was funny.

Speaker 01:

There you go. Okay. For our listeners and our community and any newcomers that's come along, there's your drum roll and Lily, tell us about your idea.

Speaker 03:

Okay. So, I'm going to tell you guys how it all started. Just like in all. So, me and Anna, we went to the dollar store. Bro. I can't even talk anymore. We went to the dollar store and we got glue and like slime products because we wanted to make slime and while we were making it my friend Anna made a joke and she was like what if we started a slime business and then we looked at each other and we were like we can do that it's not that hard to do it honestly it's just a little bit expensive a little bit pricey but after hours of figuring out trying to figure out what kind of website we can put it on what our prices would be what our name is we finally figured out a name and it's called slime and shine and we are going to try to start up in late or early October but obviously if we start a little bit earlier I will tell you any of you and it's going to be a slime brand where we make slimes and we are going to be trying to get into some craft fairs and it's gonna be pretty big so slime business slime business

Speaker 01:

all right i just did a search while he's talking for slime and shame

Speaker 03:

shine

Speaker 01:

yeah i typed it in wrong so i gotta go back and do it but i want to make sure it's not being used did you do a search

Speaker 03:

yes we did a search

Speaker 01:

okay all right so it's probably safe to say you can use it that's pretty cool and i agree it's not uh really hard to do but it is expensive

Speaker 03:

yes

Speaker 01:

but to you guys out there in a listening land

Speaker 03:

listening land

Speaker 01:

listening land

Speaker 03:

listening

Speaker 01:

land yep she's going to do that and once she gets her first shipment ready um i'll be telling everybody about it on here on the podcast and we will be happy to share. We might even put an order page on our website to help her out.

Speaker 03:

I got excited because I'm doing something this month.

Speaker 01:

Okay. Well, I better do a little housekeeping while we're recording. I think Sonny, you probably covered this under the introduction while I was gone. But I'm going to go ahead and Do it, repeat it if you have already done it. If you haven't, hey, first time. But we are on episode 122, I do believe, and that means we're recording. Okay, I know, I sound just like Sonny when I do stupid things like that, but maybe that's where he gets it. I don't know. But we are on episode 122. We are recording. It's 9-7-25, which is Sunday afternoon. We started doing a little bit of this recording on Friday, interrupted it with a pause, and we're finishing up today. That's how we got Lily aboard. Yay! I'm glad Lily's able to be with us. And what that means, if you're a new listener, please let us know, because we are here for you guys, not just us. So email us at theuglyquackenduck at gmail.com and let us know, hey, I was here and I heard you. If you're an old listener, do the same thing. Tell us you're still here. We'd really appreciate that. There you go. That's our cleaning house moment and we're back and we're going to talk to Lily some more. And Sonny, do you have anything you want to say? I always have

Speaker 02:

something to say, but no, not right now. Good job, Bruce.

Speaker 01:

Well, I'm glad you think so. All right. Let's see what Lily's got to say. Hey, Lily.

Speaker 03:

Hi.

Speaker 01:

Yeah. Hi. So we were talking about your project. We talked about your old podcast, bringing it back to life. And I hope to do that. I got some joy out of doing your editing for you and everything. So hopefully we can do that, accomplish that this year. Maybe. Maybe.

Speaker 03:

Yeah.

Speaker 01:

And we talked a little bit about your project that you and your friends got. You're going to go together and build a little business.

Speaker 03:

Friend. It's only me and my friend.

Speaker 01:

Yeah. It's only two

Speaker 03:

people. Yes, we're going to build a business.

Speaker 01:

Well, that's going to be nice. I think that's great. And you're going to build a web page to sell it?

Speaker 03:

Yes.

Speaker 01:

All right. So it's going to be the... slime and shine business for Lily and

Speaker 03:

Anna.

Speaker 01:

Is she going to go buy Anna or something else? You better talk to her about that before we start putting her name on the podcast.

Speaker 03:

She wants to go buy Anna. I already asked her.

Speaker 01:

All right.

Speaker 03:

She likes Anna.

Speaker 01:

All right. That sounds pretty good. I think that's an honorable thing to try to accomplish. And like I said, if you get your stuff prepared and going, I might list you on our web page and that way you'll have a little bit more advertising.

Speaker 03:

That would be very nice.

Speaker 01:

You get it going, we'll get you some advertising. You'll get to come on here and talk nothing but about your business.

Speaker 03:

I would love

Speaker 02:

to. Yeah, there you go. Lily's business. That sounds pretty cool. I like it.

Speaker 03:

Trust me. I like it too. I was going to go to Backlash. And this month, I'm going to go to Raw, which is a... It's not a big event like the other ones were. It's just like a small event. And I'm going to... Three Mondays from now. Three Mondays from now, I'm going.

Speaker 01:

You caught me with a snack in my mouth.

Speaker 03:

Caught me with a shock in my mouth.

Speaker 01:

Well, that's interesting. You still like wrestling, and you're going, what? When did you say again?

Speaker 03:

Hold up. I still like wrestling. I've been like wrestling since 2023. I love that thing with my whole life.

Speaker 01:

All right.

Speaker 03:

Anyway, I'm going the 22nd.

Speaker 01:

Of this month?

Speaker 03:

Of this month.

Speaker 01:

All right. Where's it at?

Speaker 03:

Evansville.

Speaker 01:

Oh, that's close.

Speaker 03:

It is closer.

Speaker 01:

That's going to be a lot of fun. A lot

Speaker 03:

of fun.

Speaker 01:

Well, cool.

Speaker 03:

I need some help here.

Speaker 01:

Yes, you do. No, no,

Speaker 03:

like, not like, okay. I have a disappointment coming up.

Speaker 02:

What was that about? Did you say

Speaker 03:

dentist? Yeah, I did. It sucks. You're lucky that you don't have to go to that person every six months to a year.

Speaker 02:

Yeah. There's a lot of things I don't have to do, but we won't talk about me.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, let's not talk about you for now. So you're going to the dentist again. I'm sorry.

Speaker 03:

Yeah, and I was supposed to have some of my teeth out.

Unknown:

I'm sorry.

Speaker 03:

My silvers are still in, and I tried pulling them out multiple times, and they wouldn't come out. And I'm afraid that they're going to give me surgery to get them taken out. I don't want surgery. I can ask them if I can try to get them out before I come back the next time, which will probably be the better bet.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, I don't think they'll. We'll see. Who knows?

Speaker 03:

I don't have a chip to. Ow.

Speaker 01:

Them get hurt.

Speaker 03:

No.

Speaker 01:

No?

Speaker 03:

No.

Speaker 01:

No?

Speaker 03:

It's like chipped.

Speaker 01:

Okay. Well, moving on, we have chipped teeth to talk about. But, hey, Sonny, where are we broadcasting or recording from?

Speaker 02:

Why do you always say broadcast?

Speaker 01:

Because it reminds me of radio. Thank you.

Speaker 02:

Okay. Well, we're broadcasting or recording in our studio in the Midwest, Southern Illinois, outside of Mount Vernon.

Speaker 01:

Okay, pinpoint us. Yep. So that means we need to talk a little bit about the weather. It's been beautiful. It's like 73. What is it there, Lily? Do you have your weather up?

Speaker 03:

I do. It is 73. But it feels like 74.

Speaker 01:

Yay, the sun's shining. It's beautiful. It feels like an early fall. It

Speaker 03:

does feel like early fall.

Speaker 01:

And that means we'll probably get hot weather again. And yuck.

Speaker 03:

And it is a full moon.

Speaker 01:

Oh, I took a cool picture of the moon.

Speaker 03:

It looked like an onion.

Speaker 01:

You

Speaker 03:

cannot tell me that that did not look like an onion.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, my phone did something weird, and it made the moon look really weird. I'm going to have to post that.

Speaker 03:

Yes, you need to.

Speaker 01:

Yeah, it's been a really beautiful week here in southern Illinois, and I think most of the United States has been getting a lot of that good weather also. I think we've got some changes coming, though. However, let's look at Phoenix, Arizona as a comparison. Right now, it's 100 degrees there and sunny. Ha, ha, ha, ha. Yeah. Actually, they show 102 if I look it up. Nice. Nice and hot. That's egg cooking weather. You can cook an egg on a rock.

Speaker 03:

I would hate to live there. I would be miserable.

Speaker 01:

It possibly could be.

Speaker 03:

It will.

Speaker 01:

Right now, we're at 26% humidity, 5 mile an hour winds, and our air quality is 20%. and phoenix which is 100 degrees is 32 degrees or 32 percent humidity oops six miles an hour wind and 25 air quality so we're even there and they have more humidity wow that's amazing usually it's the other way around

Speaker 03:

yeah yeah it is

Speaker 01:

well that's our local weather compared to phoenix arizona and if you have a local weather you'd like to give us to shout out email us and we will include that in our quick weather talk

Speaker 02:

All right. So much for our local weather. Yay. You guys did a good job. I'm proud of you.

Speaker 01:

Oh, that is. I don't even know how to take that, but I'll take it. But I think we got something else to do, don't we, Sunny?

Speaker 02:

Yep, we need to do the earthquake report.

Speaker 01:

Yes, we do. Let's do the earthquake report.

Speaker 02:

Yay!

Speaker 01:

All right, we're going to do an earthquake report. And if you first time tuned in, we just do our seven day report for this year. But we also have a report, seven day report for 2019 and 2018. I used to read that, but it took a long time to get all that information on the podcast. So I just started doing the regular seven day report. And then what we do is post 2019 and 2018 on the webpage so if you're interested in our earthquake report go to theuglyquackingduck.com and you'll see that and you hopefully you'll enjoy looking at that and you'll figure something out but until then let's do the seven day report for this week

Speaker 03:

who said that

Speaker 01:

I think I cut you out.

Speaker 03:

Cut me out?

Speaker 01:

Yeah.

Speaker 03:

How?

Speaker 01:

What were you saying?

Speaker 03:

I said that it's the best website on the internet right now.

Speaker 01:

Oh, okay. All right, we're starting for today, seven days back. And all magnitudes, anybody want to take a guess?

Speaker 03:

I will. I'm back to guessing, guys.

Speaker 02:

I want to too, but go ahead, Lily.

Speaker 03:

Yeah, I'm going first. I always go first.

Unknown:

It's my turn.

Speaker 02:

It's my turn now. Party pooper.

Speaker 03:

You're a pooper. Go clean your poop pile.

Speaker 01:

Okay. What would you like to guess?

Speaker 03:

What was last week's?

Speaker 01:

Uh, you're going to make me look it up?

Speaker 03:

Yes.

Speaker 01:

Okay. I am. Last week's was...

Speaker 00:

That was We Are Messengers. Everything comes live. This is your station for the hits positive.

Speaker 01:

Wow.

Speaker 03:

You need to keep that in there.

Speaker 01:

I guess I can. That was

Speaker 03:

funny.

Speaker 01:

Oh, that was, I'm not sure what that was, but okay.

Speaker 03:

Well, at first I thought it was my phone because I'm watching cleaning TikTok still and I didn't know if it was mine.

Speaker 01:

You're still watching TikToks while we talk. Uh-huh.

Speaker 03:

I was watching them clean. It's sad. That's fine.

Speaker 01:

Uh-huh.

Speaker 03:

I'm paying attention.

Speaker 01:

Uh-huh.

Speaker 03:

Guys.

Speaker 01:

Last week on 9-1-25 was 1895. 1,895. All magnitudes.

Speaker 03:

1895?

Speaker 01:

Yes.

Speaker 03:

I'm writing that on my paper towel. So, 1895. Okay, last week's... Okay. So, I think it might have went down to 200, 200 and, 290, 284. From 195 to 294?

Speaker 01:

Yeah. Okay. Sunny, what did you guess?

Speaker 02:

I think it went up, and I'm going to do a reversal. 1985. That kind of sounds like last number, or last week.

Speaker 01:

All right, well, I hate to do this to you guys, but it went way up. 2,116. Yep. 2,000? That's right.

Speaker 03:

Well, Sunny, you cheated, so.

Speaker 02:

No, I just guessed, but.

Speaker 03:

Dang, that's what.

Speaker 01:

All right, yeah. It went up to 2,116. And that's been close to where it's been running, really. And the 2.5 and over earthquakes was 334. And the 4.5 earthquakes, 126. And we had only one 6.0 and over for this week. And I didn't understand that because there was one at the end of last week that Afghanistan. But that gave us a Alaska. Yeah, Alaska had one that was a 6.0. And that's the only one I seen for this last week. However, Afghanistan has been hammered for the last week. They had a significant. Let me see if I can pull this news article up. So I looked up the Afghanistan earthquake because I want to talk a little bit about that. You know, we always give the six and over earthquakes, the magnitude 6.0 and over, as our massive earthquake. This week we only had one. It was in Alaska. However, the Afghanistan earthquake slipped through the crack because it was at the beginning of Sunday, and by the time we did this report, it's in the afternoon, so it's It had dropped off. If I'd done the report earlier in the morning, it would have still been on there. But anyway, it was only a 6.0, which a lot of people don't understand why I report on them. However, they had... When the initial earthquake came out, they had 800 people that had been killed and 1,000 injured after, or thousands injured after that 6.0 magnitude earthquake. Then they reported again on the 4th, and they are saying that, this is the last report I got from them, 2,205 deaths. Okay. from that earthquake and another 3,640 people injured. I

Speaker 03:

feel like earthquakes shouldn't happen.

Speaker 01:

They shouldn't.

Speaker 03:

But I don't know. I just think that natural disasters shouldn't happen.

Speaker 01:

They've always been around, always. But they're going to get worse and worse. But I wanted to talk a little bit about this because there are so many people killed injured. Afghanistan's had a lot of earthquakes over the years. And the people there, especially the people that are not well off, they're poor people, a lot like us, that don't have very good structured homes. They're in mud and rock.

Speaker 03:

And there's like vines growing on top of their houses, like mold.

Speaker 01:

Some They're in the desert.

Speaker 03:

Oh, well, mold grows bad in the heat, too.

Speaker 01:

But what happens is that rock and mortar and that stuff they build their houses out of is not earthquake-proof at all. And they just collapse every time there's an earthquake, and a lot of people are injured. And that's what happened this time. So like I've said before, it can be a minor earthquake, but if it hits the right location... it can create havoc. Yeah. And this is a good example. It could have been a lot bigger earthquake, but there was no need for that because people got injured and killed anyway. So anyway, keep them in your prayers. That's why we talked about. That's why we keep talking about earthquakes. There's, you know, other things going on. In fact, there's a hurricane building up. I don't know where it was at. It was heading for Hawaii last time I heard, but I haven't checked on it in a few days, so I don't know if it's still going that way or not. But I hope you guys are keeping your eyes open for the bad weather and all these earthquakes and stuff. We're getting ready to head into wintertime. Yikes. The last report I heard that us here in the Midwest that mid-central part of the United States is going to have a lot more storms because we're going to be fighting with the northern part of the United States who has a little bit below colder weather and the southern states that are going to have a little bit warmer winter. You put that together in the middle where we're at and it's going to cause a lot of turbulence. That's what they're saying to For airplanes? Lookout.

Speaker 03:

Lookout.

Speaker 01:

Lookout.

Speaker 03:

Lookout.

Speaker 01:

Yeah. All right.

Speaker 02:

Say bye, guys. It's been a long road. I've been recording forever.

Speaker 01:

Oh, you're just saying that because you started it out.

Speaker 03:

Actually, I'm proud of Sunny. He hasn't talked that much this podcast.

Speaker 01:

No, he hasn't. He's started with the podcast, so he's been quiet the rest of the time. I got one other thing I want to do real quick.

Speaker 03:

He's a loud mouth sometimes.

Speaker 01:

Yep. I want to talk to Gemini. Hello, Gemini. Hey

Speaker 04:

there. What's going on?

Speaker 01:

Oh, we're just ending our podcast, but I need to ask you a question, if I may.

Speaker 04:

Sure. Fire away. What's your question?

Speaker 01:

Afghanistan had a earthquake last Sunday. Do you have the last data on the death toll and the injury toll for that? that earthquake.

Speaker 04:

Unfortunately, the earthquake in Afghanistan was devastating. The latest reports indicate that the death toll has risen to over 2,200 and many more people have been injured. The situation is still unfolding, and those numbers might change.

Speaker 01:

Well, that's what we needed to know. I'm glad you was able to answer that. I do have another question for you, if you don't mind. Of course. Okay, there is a hurricane... I just read at the beginning of the week that it was heading for Hawaii. What is it about now? Is it lower, higher in frequency? Is it heading towards Hawaii still?

Speaker 04:

So Hurricane Kiko is heading towards Hawaii, but it's expected to weaken to a tropical storm before it gets there. It could still bring heavy rain and dangerous surf, so folks in Hawaii are keeping a close eye on it.

Speaker 01:

Well, that's good news. It's going to weaken. That is real good news. I really appreciate it.

Speaker 04:

You're welcome. Anything else I can help you with today?

Speaker 01:

Nope, that'll be it. I really appreciate you putting in a little bit of information into our podcast, and we will talk to you again soon.

Speaker 04:

Of course. I'm glad I could help. Feel free to reach out any time you have questions.
