Alright. So anyway, we're gonna finish this up today or tomorrow, but uh, we wanted to try to do a little bit of it today because today is uh after the 12th, and the 12th there was a lot of things happening. So let's talk about those.

The Seven Second No Gravity Rumor

Bruce 3:10

So the first thing we need to talk about is no gravity. Yeah, no gravity was a thing that was supposed to take place yesterday on August the 12th for seven seconds, was the theory or the uh I don't know what you want to call it, but it was supposed to take place yesterday. Uh there was different times quoted. Uh 1430 is what I heard, UTC time, which a lot of people missed that. They was looking for 2:30 in the afternoon, all kinds of weird stuff. But anyway, it was a theory or a lie or a conspiracy that got started. Um apparently somebody had said that NASA knew this was going to happen and they had a paper on it, and blah, blah, blah. Nobody had ever come up with that paper or that proof, but you know how gossip goes. So everybody was waiting for this seven seconds of uh mayhem to happen. Basically, nobody was gonna have gravity for them seven seconds, which meant that everybody was gonna float off. Trucks and cars was gonna flow off, float off, buildings was gonna float off.

Yeah, and if the truth be known, if that would have took place, let's take a minute to think about it. According to what I have learned and my very seldom paid attention to years at school, that the atmosphere holds in uh the oxygen, and the atmosphere is uh held by uh gravity, maybe, and that for anything in under the atmosphere, like oxygen us, was held in by gravity. So they were predicting that the gravity for seven seconds was gonna disappear because of a couple black holes, it was gonna cause everybody to float away, and that meant that the atmosphere would probably float away, and the oxygen would probably float away, and everything in this earth that we were used to would float away, and we would have a life that floated away.

Yeah, all right, thank you, Sunny. Well, anyway, um I was really looking forward to it. I had some chains ready. I had a big concrete uh drilled hole with uh a steel rod down in it, and I was gonna concrete myself to that chain, and no, not really. I was just gonna wait it out, buddy. I I expected if it was gonna be that bad for seven seconds, I was gonna fly, and then I was just gonna pray I hit ground somewhere soft. But I really didn't expect anything to happen, and of course, what happened?

Oh, date setters have always been around. I mean, every now and then they'll get something right and we'll see a some kind of catastrophe happen, and it wasn't because they got it right, it was just because it was gonna happen, and they just guessed it right. But uh there's gonna be times when we have things like that, and uh, you know, we're just gonna have to face it, but this wasn't one of them.

Solar Eclipse and Perseids Meteor Shower

did have a couple things that have happened and are still happening. One was a solar eclipse, a full solar eclipse. If you lived in, I believe uh one of the countries was Spain. Here in the United States, we didn't get to see a full eclipse unless you watched it on the internet, and there was a couple news outlets that had it live. I think ABC was the one I watched, and then there was a few uh non-professional, I'll call it that, people that had caught it with video and put it on the internet, and uh it was pretty spectacular. Uh the one I got to watch was a sunset, and you could see it getting red, and then it got darker and redder and darker, and it was beautiful. I mean, I was glad I got to see that, even though it was wasn't in person, I got to see it. So, yeah, that happened. Uh, we had a couple here in the United States in the last several years, uh, but this one we don't it don't belong to us, but we got to watch it anyway. So, thank you folks for putting that on the internet and allowing us to be part of that. Uh, that used to mark significant dates for people in history, so um some of them wasn't that good. So I don't know what this set of solar eclipses was going to mark. I guess time will tell. But we got to see it. So we were there. We were part of history, folks.

Well, as we are recording, uh this is the thirteenth, so this is one of the peak days for the meteor shower. And I'm gonna try to pronounce this correctly. It's Persides Meteor Shower, which is uh all the way up to August the 24th, but it peaks on 12 and 13th of August. So last night and today, and so probably by the time you hear this episode, it will done gone past and we'll be going towards the end of the shower. But it is a good shower, it's been really good so far, and uh that is one of the things that's really happening.

Yeah, it's really happening. We are having meteors come down, so we can see them light up the sky, and if you're one of those that uh doesn't have you know good weather and you can't see those or you you don't want to get out, if you've got a way to put up a six-meter uh receiver, and you can use a short wave, whatever, uh, and hook it up to a good antenna. I used to, I haven't done it in a year or so, uh, point uh at um the sky towards uh a direction that there was a common TV station. Most of them are digital now. And when that meteor would burn, it would uh reflect that TV station, and you would hear a ping on your receiver. I usually used upper sideband on six meters, and it was really not six meters, it was just a little bit above there where the TV band was. And I don't remember the frequencies now. Like I said, it's been a a little over a year since I've done that, but there's been a lot of times, especially in the winter, when I couldn't get out or the weather didn't allow it, or you know, I whatever, or during the day when uh you didn't you couldn't see them, I would let that thing run and it would burn uh when there would be a meteor go over, and I would know one went over. Uh there's also a website I think that still does that. So if you uh look uh for uh to listen to the meteors, um you should be able to find that and watch it or listen to it, I should say. But that's kind of another hobby. But anyway, it's happening and it's gonna happen up until the 24th. It'll probably uh trail off. It usually does. The last couple days you probably won't have any or maybe very few show up, but when it peaks, uh today it's gonna be awesome. So I hope everybody gets a chance sometime this weekend to listen and look. But there you go, that one's happening.

Yeah, they are. Uh all the time. But anyhow, that's what's happening this week.

New Moon Sky Parade Missed

Bruce 14:16

And one of the things that makes this really stick out was the fact that yesterday was a new moon. So what that means is the moon's dark, it's not giving its light out at that time, so we have a dark sky, and those meteors will show up so much better. And on top of that, yesterday morning, uh pre-dawn sky would host a very spectacular parade. The it's the sixth planet parade is what they're calling it. Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, and Saturn, and Neptune will appear stretched across the sky along with the elliptic, creating the illusion of a gigantic planetary alignment. And I missed that, so I can't tell you what it looked like. And I looked online to find somebody that had captured it and put it on the internet, and I couldn't find it. So if they're out there, man, let me know. I want to see it. But anyway, that was supposed to take place. Uh, and I did not make it up early enough to check it out. Uh, that would have been very, very cool. Plus, my location here is not very advantageous for that kind of thing. In fact, we got a lot of trees around, and it really blocks most of our uh sightseeing, sky viewing, however you want to put that. Every now and then we will catch Musk's Starlink. Uh it'll fly over and we'll get to see that string of lights. Um we're we're not even gonna talk about that. But anyhow, uh we do have a a uh a window up there, uh not a very big one, but s small large enough, I should say, that we can get satellites going over and uh every now and then the mirror space not the mirror that really dated me. I talked to the mirror one time, actually more than once on the ham radio, but the ISS. Every now and then we'll get to see it go over, but anyhow there we go.

I did, and I have a tape somewhere, I don't know where it's at, we've moved a couple times since then, where I had a satellite dish pointed up to one of those uh satellites, and I was uh talking to the mirror at that time, and they were sending down um a kind of a tour, a guided tour inside that thing, and I'll tell you what, yeah, I've seen movies since then where they depicted what it would look like in you know a horror type situation, a scary movie, and uh it looked a lot like that, man. That guy was running around up there by himself, not me, but anyhow, uh yeah, that was uh back in the day when things were different. Um not anymore. So, anyway, it's been a good week. We've had a lot of neat stuff happening, and hopefully, when you listen to this episode, you're gonna go, yeah, I caught that, or I caught this, and uh man, I wish I'd caught that. You know, something will click and you'll be able to remember something that happened this week.

Well, most of the people, Bruce, is probably asleep or working. You know, a lot of people have to go to work, come home, go to work, come home. They sleep in there sometimes, but you know, that's our life.

Yeah, you're right. Uh that's a lot of people's lives, and I can't forget that because I have done that in the past and still do that to a certain extent. I got a few extra days off now. Cracked The Recording Table

to throw a little bit of extra drama in there, I guess I could say, um, I'm working on a plastic table, you know, the type that's uh what is it, about six foot long, maybe not quite that long, but it's pretty good size. And it's got the foldable legs, you know, that fold up underneath it. And I'm using that now. My other desk on the other side of the on the back side of this one is a a wooden one that you stand at, and it's got my other computer and my radio stuff there. Anyhow, what I was talking about is I've used a boom arm attached to that plastic table for a long time. I actually got a new one to put on there and I took the other one off. Long story. But anyway, the other day I noticed that boom arm was wobbling and uh it was getting quite uh wobbly to be exact. So when I got done recording last week, I took that arm off and looked at it, and it had cracked the table. Now I clamped it on the middle of that side where there was a a thicker piece of plastic uh in the middle uh for an anchor. And I clamped it there, but apparently it broke that and it was getting really wobbly, so I had to take it off. So I've been debating on getting another uh table like the other one that I can raise up or lower. Uh I can find a pretty inexpensive one, about the same size as this plastic, and put my equipment on it for recording. That way I could stand up or uh I could set at the table, either way. Um but I luckily had an old stand with an arm on it. Um I don't remember what they call this. I got this one at Radio Shack years ago, but it stands up and it if you extend it out, it's probably about six foot tall. And then it's got a four-foot probably arm that comes over, and um, I set it next to the table and brought it over. So my microphone's at a different angle, and I don't know how well it's gonna record. It looks like I'm hitting about the same amount, uh, maybe a little bit higher at some times, because I'm not able to move it back and forth like I used to on the other one. Uh, but I didn't want to have that thing bouncing around and collapse my table, you know? It's got a lot of stuff on it. I don't Anyway, I thought I'd tell you guys that give you a little bit of wow, man, or not.

Anyway, uh Yeah, it got kind of crazy the last end of the last recording episode. So yeah, I've kind of set it up. It's working fine now, and that table seems pretty solid. Uh, I never dreamed that that clamp um sitting there, you know, pushing on that the whole time with that arm way out, because I pull it out next to my mouth, uh, would put that much weight on that and it would finally crack that. I could get some epoxy and probably glue up and let it set, and it'll probably be solid again. Maybe not as solid, but I didn't want to put it on the other side because when I seen what that did, I thought, well, it's going to do the same thing over there, so I just forego that whole thing. Anyway, that's what we got going on from last week. Boohoo!

You're right. It doesn't have to be, but when you have to change something after you've been doing it for so long, it's kind of rough, you know? I hope you guys don't mind. You know, Sunny, there is one thing that also took place at the end of the the week that we didn't talk about and we should bring up.

Back To School And August Heat

But no, school has started officially for almost everybody, especially here in the Midwest. Um, there's been a few days during the week that they had to go back. Some people went back Thursday, um, just different times, but this was the week that a lot of kids look forward to. A lot of other ones dreaded that school started back. Yep. August is that time of year.

Oh, you know what that means? That means the parents had to go out and spend a whole bunch of money getting everything prepared.

Bruce 24:23

You are absolutely right. This is that week where uh they've officially said, oh, I gotta get this before, oh, I gotta get that, oh, and then they gotta pay the you know school bills and the books and all that fun stuff. Yeah. So that's where that week took us. And on top of all that, it's been a very humid, hot week. Um, yeah. I think it was uh now we've transformed this recording from Wednesday and Thursday up until right now it's Monday morning, August the 17th. So we went on the weekend to 102 degrees here at my location, and luckily I was inside work most of that time, so uh the heat wasn't real bad, but it was it was warm.

Oh, it was not just only warm, it was humid, like you just stepped out of a shower, and yuck, yeah. Everybody was complaining.

Yeah, and that's just part of August, man. It happens every year, and we all uh that's the way we feel. But we're gonna get through it, it's gonna get better. Uh we got fall coming. Uh, and last night, which was a Sunday night, it came a thunderstorm. A lot of thunder, a lot of lightning, uh a little bit of rain. It was a rough one. And they are predicting during the week we're going to get some more thunderstorms. So we'll see what happens. We'll see if that drives the humidity up more or if it cools things down a little bit. And by the time you are listening to this, hopefully it's settled down a little bit, and we can see what's happening. But hang in there, guys. Don't uh let it get to you. The heat's rough, it causes a lot of tempers to flare, uh, it gets very aggravating. Hang in there. We're gonna make it. It's gonna be shortly, and we're gonna see it cool down.

Like I said, last week has been terribly humid and hot, been pretty rough. Uh, we didn't have much rain come through. Uh, there was supposed to be, and some areas got it. I know Missouri was getting hammered over the weekend, and we didn't get anything. Kind of weird. But right now, in my location, it's 91 degrees, and that uh reading is from a sensor that's out in the sun in the morning. Now, in the afternoon, it's in the shade, but so it raises up a little bit higher in the mornings. Uh, the local weather from Mount Vernon, which is not very far away, shows it's 78 degrees right now. So there's a slight difference. But like I said, it got up to 102 uh this weekend, this Sunday. It was pretty miserable.

I believe the fire situation's under control in Spokane, Washington today, which is a good thing. They are at 69 degrees right now, which is awesome. It's sunny and it's nice. The humidity's at 49%, the uh wind is coming out of the northeast at 4 miles an hour, their air quality is 81, which is moderate, the UV index is 2, which is really low, and their pressure is 30.3, and it is falling. Their visibility is 10 miles. Yay! And Bruce, you need to go back and give the Mount Vernon area weather because you didn't do that. You just gave the temperature.

Uh, you're right. Uh let me get it back here. Okay, so they are right now, uh humidity at Mount Vernon, Illinois is 83%. So southern Illinois, again, very humid. UV index is three, which is moderate. Uh the wind is out of the northwest, six miles an hour. We have a pressure of 30.02 and rising. The air quality is 31, which is good, and the visibility is 10 miles. That's a pretty good visibility.

All right, Tokyo right now is at 76 degrees. It is 89% humidity, which is very high. The UV index is zero, probably because it's nighttime. The wind is out of the west-southwest, but it's zero miles per hour, which is odd. And the pressure is 29.98 and falling, and visibility is seven miles, and their air quality is 51.

Thank you, Sunny. That's not a bad job at all. Let's do one more. Let's see. I'll pick it just a second. All right, I think I'm gonna do Paris. Um, it's 83 degrees right now in Paris. Their um humidity is 42%, which is not bad. It's moderate. Their UV index is 2, which is low. The wind is coming out of the west-northwest at 11 miles an hour. They got a little bit of wind today. Air quality is 40, which is good. Their pressure is 29.98 and falling. The visibility is nine miles, so not too bad of visibility. And that's Paris, France, today only.

Earthquake Report And Solar Activity

Well, Sunny, I think it's about time that we do our earthquake report, and I think we should have a pretty good, if you want to call it pretty good report.

Uh I wouldn't call it pretty good, but um, yeah.

No, I wouldn't either. We're showing some uh 6.0 and over earthquakes for the week. And uh the report's gonna be a little bit longer because uh we extended the record time, and I'm sorry about that. And I don't know if we're gonna do another one this week since Wednesday's only a couple days away. I may just take a break and start the next report next week. Yay! Anyhow, the earthquake report, yeah, it's that time. Uh we ended it last week on August the 5th when we recorded, and now it's August the 17th. So we've got a several days to cover. Um but hang on, it's not gonna be that crazy. So we'll go back to August the 6th and start in. And as far as the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, there was no 6.0 or over earthquakes. Excuse me, hang on just a second.

Well, I wouldn't say tongue tied, I would say my throat's starting to bother me. I got the door closed and I'm not getting any fresh air in here, which really bothers me a lot. But anyhow, on the 10th of August we had a 7.4 earthquake, San Jose, Colombia, uh Del Mar, Del Parma, uh excuse me, I'm sorry I messed that up, but in Colombia. It was on land, a 7.4. And then on the 11th, nothing. And then on the 12th, we had a 6.0 uh on the South Sandwich Island region, which happened to be out in the sea, which that's a good thing. But that 7.4 was on land and it caused quite a bit of damage. Uh let me check. The August 11th writing that I'd read, I saved it. There was at least 111 people dead as of that writing from that 7.4, and I'm sure it's went up. Uh, I didn't see any new uh statistics, and I don't think I want to know anymore. Uh, we need to pray for those people. Anytime it strikes on land like that, you see a lot more damage. Uh a lot more. So, anyhow, uh I hate reporting that, but we had a 7.4 and uh quite a bit of damage and death, and then again on the 12th, we had a 6.0, but it was at C, so there wasn't near as much damage. And then uh 13th, 8.13, we didn't have one. 8.14 it started picking back up, and I noticed that the solar wind had gone back up, and the sunspots had gone up. It went up to 380 on the solar wind, uh, which had dropped down a little bit, but the sunspots is 101 and the flux was 100, which is just numbers, but it tends to go up a little bit, and then lo and behold, it seems like we have some 6.0 earthquakes. And it happened that day on 814. We had a 6.1 in Indonesia, or next to Indonesia, and then a 7.7 also next to Indonesia. They were both out to sea, which was good. But that was a 7.7, folks. That's pretty good size. I never did hear if there's a tsunami or anything. And then the next day on the 15th, we had a 6.9 again in Indonesia, but this time it was on land, and I didn't hear any reports of the damage on it or anything. But that was a six point nine on August the fifteenth. Then August the sixteenth, we had a six point one in Venutia or next to Venutia, and that was in the sea, so hopefully there was less damage. And today, so far, on eight seventeen, we haven't had that much, and the wind is still about 337.6 solar wind, the flux is 129, so that's still up on the average of what it usually is. Hell however, the sunspots are down to 83. So that's a good thing. So I don't know if that has anything to do with anything. Uh the noise floor has been quiet on the radio most of the week. We've not had very much noise. And the radio's not been hopping like you know we like to have it.

Oh yeah, we did. Let me give you a count. As of 8.5 to 817, we had six 6.0 and above earthquakes for that period of time, um, which is back up because we'd been averaging about two for those seven days, and this time it's more. But we had a few more extra days in there, too. Anyhow, I hate reporting the bad, but I guess that's part of it. So I hope you guys enjoyed that. If there's any way to enjoy it.

Well, that's probably true too, and I don't want nobody to do that. So, anyhow, uh this has been a weird recording week, um, almost a week, man. I started last Wednesday, Thursday, I don't remember what day it was. I was off a couple days because of uh my work and things I had to get done. I had doctor's appointments. It just really messed up that week. So I started it and I had to finish it today, which is another week, and I don't like doing that. But hey, you can't hold me a hostage over it, can you?
