Hey, ellie.
Speaker 2:Yes, andrew.
Speaker 1:Would you rather have to write everything you say out by hand, or only to be able to speak in rhymes?
Speaker 2:Look, I actually love a bit of handwriting, so I think I'm going to have to say that I would write everything out by hand, every single thing, every single thing.
Speaker 1:I feel like you'd have to be a bit more concise in conversation too, because you talk heaps, You're like, oh, I don't want to do that, oh yeah you're just going to dot point that shit.
Speaker 2:You are just going to literally cut every single explaining description word out. What about?
Speaker 1:you. I reckon I talk in rhymes. Oh really.
Speaker 2:You're so good at it.
Speaker 1:But my assumption is that I would actually be good at it.
Speaker 2:So would you rather?
Speaker 1:if I'm good at talking rhymes, let's fucking do that shit.
Speaker 2:I reckon you would be amazing. Maybe we should do the whole podcast in rhyme. That is a. That's your challenge. I'll write it out. I'll write it out and you can do the rhyme.
Speaker 1:You can write it and I'll rhyme it. It'll be sweet, All right let's go to the theme tune and we're going to come back in our special episode. We're hanging out at Zero Con. It's so amazing. All right, ellie. So we've been hanging out, we've been talking about gatherings we're in a combi right now.
Speaker 2:It's so cool this is a wild environment.
Speaker 1:It's a wonderful environment.
Speaker 2:It's a wacky environment it is.
Speaker 1:Is that rhyming? Wild, wacky and wonderful.
Speaker 2:I guess so Like rhymes can be whatever you want them to be.
Speaker 1:Is that what you call alliteration, alliteration, alliteration? I don't know. Isn't it alliterate where you can't Alliterate?
Speaker 2:is where you can't sort. I'm a numbers guy, yes, and a great numbers guy. We are.
Speaker 1:So we've the biggest of accounting gatherings.
Speaker 2:Oh, it's the.
Speaker 1:Coachella. Isn't that what they're talking?
Speaker 2:about.
Speaker 1:It's the Coachella. There's 3,500 people. I liked how they said it's the biggest, one by three, because there's 8,000 people online apparently.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so that's 12,000.
Speaker 1:There's a lot of people theoretically connecting here, which is kind of big, and it's in Brizzy.
Speaker 2:It's in Brizzy, so the weather is good. The my voice is already kind of shot Well you had a big Ignition Con.
Speaker 1:It was a big day yesterday there was the Ignition Con.
Speaker 2:Oh, talk about all the things before and after. There was Fuse Collective, there was Access Group Mini Golf, early Adopters Hub, early Adopters Hub drinks. We've got MidCon X-Pac Alumni.
Speaker 1:Mayday Air Warlocks the day before.
Speaker 2:There's Breakfast Galore, there's Netwalking, there's networking there's the after party, like it's intense, right, and I think because we haven't had it for two years, you haven't seen everybody for two years, and so it's kind of like the day before Christmas when you know the presents are under the tree yeah, and you kind of roll on in and it's super vibey what were you like in the lead up?
Speaker 1:because I feel like for me the lead up to it was like I was like no, no crap, hold on Zerocon. And then, like the few days before, it was like the build up quite big. Do you have a long or a short build up?
Speaker 2:look, mine was incredibly short, but that's my life at the moment, so I just look at the next day, right? But, if I look at how other people were experiencing it, because I'm not Everybody was on the WhatsApp group going off saying how excited they were they were coming in early. There was talk about Bonkers.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it was absolutely bonkers. I'm not on any of those groups. Oh my gosh, I'm actually kind of. There's lots of women's ones, right.
Speaker 2:But it was absolutely bonkers. So I think from how everybody else was feeling, I definitely think that they were excited.
Speaker 1:Also sold out Like super sold out super early, In like 37 seconds.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and it's very difficult at the moment to actually get a ticket.
Speaker 1:It's like the golden ticket. If you got one, you're selling those things. You're making profit. They sold an early bird. They sold out early birds.
Speaker 2:And that was because there were actually less attendees 3,500, than there were previously to Sydney. But, I mean still big numbers, big numbers. People are super excited Big vibes and we had a lot of those events before and it was totally packed out, I feel like the whole build-up, with everybody else kind of getting excited for it.
Speaker 1:It kind of lifts everybody around. It's like that whole rising tide, and so I remember we rocked up. So my family is here with me.
Speaker 2:I know which is so good they're not here right now.
Speaker 1:My wife's best friend and her sister also live in Brizzy, so they're hanging out with them, but I'm going to bring the kids in tomorrow.
Speaker 2:There's so many cool things too, oh.
Speaker 1:I can't wait, it's gonna be great. But coming here and then all of a sudden walking into an event and being like, oh, there's like 50 people that I haven't seen for a year or two, that I really enjoy their company, their presence, it was.
Speaker 2:It was very, very life-affirming and very positive vibes, right look, there are many different reasons why you go to a conference like say for instance, for zero con? Do you come for the content, do you come from the apps or do you come for the people?
Speaker 1:and for me, lots of beer for me the content.
Speaker 2:I've most probably heard it before yeah I'm looking forward to some of the day two stuff where there's some different stages you're not quite a thought leader.
Speaker 1:No, I've never been a thought leader.
Speaker 2:No, I've never been a thought leader, unlike you. But to the apps, I know most of the apps now too, and I'm using most of the ones that I need. I don't really have any more pain points in the business that there aren't apps out there to solve already.
Speaker 1:Yes, okay, that's interesting. Ali has no pain points. No, no, no.
Speaker 2:Never tech able to fix, as in there are pain points but tech hasn't been built to fix it yet there's nobody actually fixing my pain points.
Speaker 1:What are your pain points in your business?
Speaker 2:It's definitely around practice management workflow. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1:There are a couple of apps here, I think, that are newish in that space.
Speaker 2:On boarding is massively a huge issue for us. I just want one place to put my staff data and then just no everybody to just get client to get it on and then just have it, because there are so many places that you need to fill in and then update, so massive pain point there for me.
Speaker 1:But that's not what I come to Zero Comfort for. I come for the people.
Speaker 2:I come because this is my community, this is my vibe, this is my joy, my happy moments.
Speaker 1:I don't find it very hard to come here.
Speaker 2:No, it has lifted my spirits Like I feel good, I feel really good.
Speaker 1:You didn't fall for my joke. No, I didn't. It was good, just don't think back over it.
Speaker 2:Listeners might be giggling about it.
Speaker 1:You went well into the gutter.
Speaker 2:my friend, I can't believe that.
Speaker 1:I feel right into the gutter, david might have to edit that one out. We'll that. I feel right into. David might have to edit that one out. Um, we'll see how we go, but but um, what I love here.
Speaker 1:So this is this is about the big gathering, this is about bringing thousands of people into a room, so we've done a hard job we've done small gatherings, we've done kind of like you know, uh, you know specific branded, one kind of like roadshow style things, and now this is the big fuck off, huge everybody in and the amount of work that it takes to put something like this on the thoughts like the, the, the consistency in branding through the whole space the way that all of the zero things put together, but then all the apps as well.
Speaker 1:Like, look like I'm looking out and I'm seeing there's like a grab cash grab one. I was playing a game before where, like the um, the things drop and you got to catch them and oh so good, oh so good.
Speaker 2:I know BGL's got a claw machine. I'm currently leading that one. Oh really, Wow, wait. So watch out. And the merch.
Speaker 1:There's so much there, there's so much merch, and it really does bring it in. And then there's the stages, and there's about 12 stages. I think, yeah, it's crazy, are your jump on stage? Yeah, partner stage, it's just a partner stage.
Speaker 2:Well, it was meant to be discovery. So there's discovery stages, partner stages, the supercharged stage, and it's slightly different this year. There's not as much main stage stuff. I found that interesting that there will be no ending.
Speaker 1:You know what we're going to pause. We're going to go listen to from amazing sponsors of all of them who are here today, yes, which I'm very stoked about. We're going to come back and I'm going to talk about the way they've put together the agenda and the stuff here. We're going to feel like why is that an important thing for a big conference? Yeah, love it all right, let's listen to the, the sponsors. Thank you, sponsors. Hey, ellie um, who do you use when it comes to additional resourcing for your accounting business?
Speaker 2:100% Tower Global. They're the bomb and you.
Speaker 1:Yeah, me too. Oh will we.
Speaker 2:We are both the best. Why do you use them? Elite talent, my friend for an accounting firm and people are job ready.
Speaker 1:Ready to rock and roll. I love it. I think it unlocks firm potential. I think it's really good potential. I think it's really good and I think it allows you to build a strategy to grow your business and service your clients better 100%. Get onto it, get amongst it. Friends Tower Global that's where the good stuff's at. If there's one thing that I know, ali, is that I need a lot of help Now, outside of personal life stuff. It's when I'm running my accounting business. I can get stuck in my head.
Speaker 2:I'm going round and round in circles, but you know there is someone out there who can actually help you, as an accounting firm owner, to do good stuff, and it sounds to me like you need to hit up Planet Consulting. They are tailored solutions for professional firms and their purpose is to enrich your life.
Speaker 1:I love an enriched life.
Speaker 2:I really do, they do?
Speaker 1:workshop facilitations, professional coaching and mentoring. So, no matter where you are, get on the planet consulting.
Speaker 2:So we're back. Yes, thank you sponsors. Yes, they are, they're very good.
Speaker 1:I love our sponsors, so do I. What I love about them is not just the fact that they allow us to have the conversations, but whenever I see them physically which I have over the last day it's just a lot of hugs, a lot of like it's very a lot of closeness. They're good, good people they are very good.
Speaker 2:I like that about them and that's why they're sponsors. No, shitheads, we don't let anybody in.
Speaker 1:No, it's got to be top of the pops let's talk about being good at what you do Now. Obviously, putting an agenda together and putting a theme together at a big conference is really important right, and so the theme here, I think, is supercharged.
Speaker 1:Yep, that's right, or supercharged or something like that I was trying to think of a joke about supercharging but, like all the jokes that came up were very chauvinistic and I was like maybe I won't, good call, I'm not in the mood for that. Yep, very good call. But the big shift in Zerocon this year is that there's only half a day on the main stage.
Speaker 2:Yes, which is pretty much product.
Speaker 1:And it's product. And then, oh, mate Bluey's going to be there. I think he's speaking on the main stage next.
Speaker 2:Oh is he.
Speaker 1:And then tomorrow no main stage.
Speaker 2:No, so there's no. There was an opening with.
Speaker 1:Dragon. There was an opening with Dragon which was like you know what?
Speaker 2:there was about 20 women down front.
Speaker 1:I didn't know who Dragon was, and then played the song.
Speaker 2:I'm like, oh, I know these guys, yeah, yeah, yeah, they know their target market.
Speaker 1:I'm a bit younger than you, ellie, that were one of my favorite bands.
Speaker 2:I don't, I knew the songs, but like so they've got the half day and the big stage, then the rest of the conference is filtered through the, what you call the conference floor or the conference hall or whatever, where there's all the.
Speaker 1:the apps are here, all the zero activation spaces and all the other stages, but there's no, there's no ending to it there's no final thing where we gather together and I feel like for me that's actually been a really important part of zero cons in years gone by is the rally cry that we finish on collectively presentation. I think a couple years ago that kind of helped to finish there. Um, we've had others where it's it's allowed us to really kind of come together before we then go out and party.
Speaker 2:So it's going to be interesting to see how many people will be here on day two. How?
Speaker 1:many people are going to be here at yeah two o'clock on day two. Are they going to go?
Speaker 2:oh, we're done yeah, well, I mean, I mean it's a wonderful space and there's some super cool things like people and all these other things. But I do agree with you I'm not sure if there's enough to keep everybody here for two days because but maybe they dropped it because of that people weren't rolling into that final session, and now they would have been spending big money on getting these people and like the Darryl Braithwaite, I mean you and I could have spoken Well zero.
Speaker 1:If you need zero next year, Ali and I are very happy to jump on the main stage and help to bring a close, to gather the community together to rally them up.
Speaker 2:Absolutely the rally cry.
Speaker 1:And we'll start marching the streets around.
Speaker 2:You know good accounting practices and you know get paid on time and whatever other bullshit we can kind of come up with. And look, if I go back to the theme, I also think, yeah, it's supercharged, but it's also around AI it's. Ai in everything. It's the buzzword, it's everywhere. If you look at most of the conversations being had on stage, there is some level of AI, and what Zero is currently pushing is AI everywhere right?
Speaker 1:Well, they talked about JAX being not just ask, but just do or just done.
Speaker 2:Just done, just done. So it's not just asking Slightly Just done. I'm not sure about, but it's more about the agentic AI.
Speaker 1:It's the idea of what they're trying to achieve with it. It's like we don't want you just to be able to ask a question. We want it to actually be engaged yeah, to actually be engaged in what you're doing yeah, so they're going to have OpenAI and JAX.
Speaker 2:Now they're going to be doing the auto-reconciling. They talked about the OneHub, the tax, xpm and work papers.
Speaker 1:Yes.
Speaker 2:They launched the work papers, which I'm super excited about.
Speaker 1:So, there's actually.
Speaker 2:They've done an enormous amount of work on their platform and product and development, and definitely what was coming out today was the AI flavor and you'll see that.
Speaker 1:Totally. What I also liked, looking through the agenda as well and I'm always big on this is there is a lot of human story-based stuff.
Speaker 1:So, like Nat Lennon sharing her story, which is going to be cool, there's a whole bunch of people that specialize in the human side of things and I like that they've recognized recognized. If all we do is talk about AI and tech, this might create an overwhelming space for people where it's already hard enough in our life and our world to deal with the busyness, the demands, the expectations of, and if we then throw all this technology on top, it's like man, where do I keep up? But balancing that with human, I think, is really smart and I really did like how they had that flavour across the main stage this morning.
Speaker 2:It really was about amplifying the human and really allowing the agentic AI to do heavy lifting for you. Yeah, and so that was exciting. And look, they have put an enormous amount of and from my experience on XPAC, I know that they're putting enormous amount around beta, around tying back into the community, about listening to the community, and so because there's danger in AI of you know, oh, everyone's going to take our jobs, so they're very, very conscious and aware of that, and so I do want to give big props to them that they recognise, that, they see that what we do is add value and, as part of every AI conversation on the main stage, they always have the human element as part of that, as the final piece.
Speaker 2:Yes, To kind of wrap it up to and it's all about relationships and that's what they talked about as well. So they're still very much based in their core um, but I you know, when you're thinking about how they built the agenda, it was around those themes I think that they've most probably nailed them and they put an enormous amount of effort in to kind of pull this together and now enormous amount of effort.
Speaker 1:I'm going to make a massive segue here into the fashion sense of zero con and the and and and the style. So now we've had. Yesterday there was events, there was I was at the access group mini golf day and they had a best dress that someone dressed up as happy gilmore's um caddy full with a white suit, fake beard, wearing one shoe, had a sock on a putter, like it was best dressed there, obviously.
Speaker 1:Last night we had the Ignition Precon, yeah, and then tomorrow night we've got the Rap Party which is a glitter safari, safari glitterati. So which I looked at and I went nah, that just sounds too confusing and annoying.
Speaker 2:Can you see my glittery shoe? Yeah, that's why I feel like it's good for a bunch of people, but for other people, but, I do have a bright green velvet VB tracksuit so I might just wear that, which could be fun. It's very safari and glittery, I guess.
Speaker 1:It's velour would give the shine? Yeah for sure. But I was wearing a special T-shirt yesterday which I had AI designed it for me. It said not an accountant, but spelled K-N-O-T-N and then A-K-O-U-N-T, and then the logo was like a pirate thing so like I like the time of not and I used ai to help me to do that.
Speaker 1:When I say I used ai, I went to vista print because I it was a last minute decision of mine, it was the quickest to get it and I'm like cool, give me a logo. And that's what it came up with and I wanted to be the shittiest looking thing and I think it worked well, did you like?
Speaker 2:my t-shirt. I really liked your t-shirt.
Speaker 1:I always look at your t-shirts. I'm like oh that shirt, this one not an accountant. And the reason I did that is because everyone's like, oh, you run a plumbing store. Now, right, you're like you run a plumbing store. I'm like, no, no, no, no, I'm still an accountant?
Speaker 2:You still run Illuminae? Yeah, I still do the accounting stuff. How many of your team are here?
Speaker 1:We've got eight in total nearby, 57 floors high, with windows that fully open Are you?
Speaker 2:joking.
Speaker 1:Fully open.
Speaker 2:Are you joking? No, how does that say?
Speaker 1:Well, that's a great question.
Speaker 2:I feel sick just thinking about that.
Speaker 1:It's pretty awesome though they're big mechanical windows, You've got to press a button and it does it. Anyway, the bat's been raised Well.
Speaker 2:I've literally just like a one-minute walk from the convention centre, which.
Speaker 1:I feel like for you that's a cop-out. You should be like a 20-minute walk so you can get your exercise in the morning. No, I get my exercise in the morning, you do, and then I just walk here.
Speaker 2:Because I don't want to get lost.
Speaker 1:I'm here by myself. I don't have any Thank you so much, but you're also doing a million other things.
Speaker 2:I've got nothing to do here.
Speaker 1:I've got nothing on other than this. The other thing with fashion today on now, five different occasions people have come to me asking for directions or where to go because I'm wearing a black shirt, black pants and a black hat so I look like I'm like a zero or a tech guy, or I look like I'm an event guy, literally.
Speaker 1:I was standing in the main stage waiting to start and two people from Xero came out to me and said oh, I'm sorry, I was talking to Jared about where we need a seat. Do you know where that is?
Speaker 2:I was like oh, I'm an accountant and then one of them looks at me will you change what you're wearing tomorrow?
Speaker 1:because I've got outfits right. But one of them looked at me and went oh shit, shit.
Speaker 2:Sorry, andrew, they knew who I was, but because I was in the full gear, so hot tip for listeners out there.
Speaker 1:If you want to meet people, just dress in like all black.
Speaker 2:Look like you're an event person and stand near seats or stages, but if I'm talking, if there's a uniform for Zero Con, a uniform is a t-shirt, jeans and some comfy shoes and a bit of a dress.
Speaker 1:Also think part of the unicorn is you've got a uniform unicorn. Yeah, part of the unicorn is you have to have something that stands out. So I think there's a lot of different people here from different businesses. They've got either their business branding or they're. They're really wanting to like you got an x-pack shirt, look at that, that's good. They really want. Everyone wants to kind of like be themselves here and like like just be a bit louder and a bit more freer, because oh, 100%.
Speaker 2:They feel comfortable here. Rarely anybody. I cannot see anybody in a suit and I would be surprised if anybody rolled up in a suit.
Speaker 1:But this is the value of places. People feel comfortable. Now they can be loud and they can be weird. It's like this is my community, this is my tribe, these are my people.
Speaker 2:The other thing I wanted to know is and half the audience three of our team. We knew, yeah, three of our seven, half the people hadn't come to a zero con before, and when you consider how many zero cons there have been, that's many.
Speaker 1:That's a fair number of new people so you can really see. But that's every zero con, isn't it?
Speaker 2:yeah right and I do wonder whether some people have tapped out of a zero con environment because they're like it's really good to see the new people. It's really good to see the fresh new people coming in different ideas, community ideas, and so that is exciting in itself that we can get to meet new people. Totally have some fun.
Speaker 1:Yes, well, look, I've been having a lot of fun, You've been having fun, we are tomorrow, we're going to be interviewing Angad, so that's going to be fun. So you're going to get a little bonus episode. You're going to get a normal Zero Con episode and then a bonus episode too.
Speaker 2:And hey, team, I do want to call out that we haven't been as consistent as we normally are.
Speaker 1:Just bear with us we're going through things, life happens.
Speaker 2:We're going through life things, but we are here. We love you guys and we will have a few Very, very soon.
Speaker 1:I think we've got about 17 episodes. We couldn't get time to record for a while and all of a sudden we have a million things coming out which is good.
Speaker 2:I'm glad that we can do that, because I love spending time with you talking.
Speaker 1:I really appreciate that Ali Same same. And I believe Amy and Jack are also going to be doing an episode on the tech side of things.
Speaker 2:So that's pretty exciting too. So we will hopefully see most of our listeners here, but if not, have a good time.
Speaker 1:Well, if you do listen to this one, if it happens to go out and you listen to it and we're still around, just come and just randomly give us a hug, just jump on Ali's back.
Speaker 2:Just jump on Ali's back maybe give Andrew a hug, maybe say hello to me. I'm probably more open to the random physical interaction. As a female I'm not so open to that interaction unless I know them.
Speaker 1:You can randomly give me a hug and then I will randomly give Ali a hug on your behalf, and then it will be ok excellent.
Speaker 2:Well, hey, ali, thank you we'll get out of this combi we're going to spend a bit more time cruising around.
Speaker 1:I can't wait to bring my kids in tomorrow and let them run around and see oh, this is so exciting, it's so good. And yeah and everybody in the Xero world. Much love to you, Absolutely.
Speaker 2:Thank you, Xero, for putting these things on.
Speaker 1:Thank you people for being here and we'll. Would you rather pans for hands or sweating jam? You would rather have pans?
Speaker 2:for hands, or that you would sweat jam, sweat, jam, absolutely sweat jam.
Speaker 1:I'll leave that. I think I've said that a few times. Jack actually shared me that, would you rather? And it's one that's gone through the what would you say? I would sweat jam, I think, but at the same time I think sweating jam in some areas is great, but other bits. I'm like man if I go for a run.
Speaker 2:Do you think the jam.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but think of other places you sweat. You don't just sweat in your arms, like the below bits yeah, you sweat everywhere. You've got like ass sweat, ass jam. Yeah. Having to wipe clean that You'll be in a shower all the time yeah, we should finish. Oh well, anyway, zero con, that's a great way to finish sweating jam or pants for hands.
Speaker 1:Thank you everybody. We'll catch you later. Bye, wasn't that a fun adventure, my friends, thank you so much, so incredibly much, for hanging out with us today. Ellie, you've been today. Ali, you've been amazing. Andrew, you've been all right. How good is it to be able to have adventures together it so is, and you know what.
Speaker 2:Keep following us. We are all over the socials at accounting adventures. Check us out on the website. Give us a bit of a like.
Speaker 1:You know how much we love that stuff the best thing about the adventure is the people that we do it with. So thank you so much for listening, thank you so much for hanging out with us, and please bring all the ideas, keep them coming. We can't wait to share more cool adventures with you.
Speaker 2:We love you guys.
