There's Breakfast Galore, there's Netwalking, there's networking there's the after party, like it's intense, right, and I think because we haven't had it for two years, you haven't seen everybody for two years, and so it's kind of like the day before Christmas when you know the presents are under the tree yeah, and you kind of roll on in and it's super vibey what were you like in the lead up?

because I feel like for me the lead up to it was like I was like no, no crap, hold on Zerocon. And then, like the few days before, it was like the build up quite big. Do you have a long or a short build up?

look, mine was incredibly short, but that's my life at the moment, so I just look at the next day, right? But, if I look at how other people were experiencing it, because I'm not Everybody was on the WhatsApp group going off saying how excited they were they were coming in early. There was talk about Bonkers.

Yeah, it was absolutely bonkers. I'm not on any of those groups. Oh my gosh, I'm actually kind of. There's lots of women's ones, right.

But it was absolutely bonkers. So I think from how everybody else was feeling, I definitely think that they were excited.

Yeah, and it's very difficult at the moment to actually get a ticket.

And that was because there were actually less attendees 3,500, than there were previously to Sydney. But, I mean still big numbers, big numbers. People are super excited Big vibes and we had a lot of those events before and it was totally packed out, I feel like the whole build-up, with everybody else kind of getting excited for it.

It kind of lifts everybody around. It's like that whole rising tide, and so I remember we rocked up. So my family is here with me.

My wife's best friend and her sister also live in Brizzy, so they're hanging out with them, but I'm going to bring the kids in tomorrow.

It was very, very life-affirming and very positive vibes, right look, there are many different reasons why you go to a conference like say for instance, for zero con? Do you come for the content, do you come from the apps or do you come for the people?

I've most probably heard it before yeah I'm looking forward to some of the day two stuff where there's some different stages you're not quite a thought leader.

No, I've never been a thought leader, unlike you. But to the apps, I know most of the apps now too, and I'm using most of the ones that I need. I don't really have any more pain points in the business that there aren't apps out there to solve already.

Never tech able to fix, as in there are pain points but tech hasn't been built to fix it yet there's nobody actually fixing my pain points.

There are a couple of apps here, I think, that are newish in that space.

On boarding is massively a huge issue for us. I just want one place to put my staff data and then just no everybody to just get client to get it on and then just have it, because there are so many places that you need to fill in and then update, so massive pain point there for me.

So this is this is about the big gathering, this is about bringing thousands of people into a room, so we've done a hard job we've done small gatherings, we've done kind of like you know, uh, you know specific branded, one kind of like roadshow style things, and now this is the big fuck off, huge everybody in and the amount of work that it takes to put something like this on the thoughts like the, the, the consistency in branding through the whole space the way that all of the zero things put together, but then all the apps as well.

Yep, very good call. But the big shift in Zerocon this year is that there's only half a day on the main stage.

the apps are here, all the zero activation spaces and all the other stages, but there's no, there's no ending to it there's no final thing where we gather together and I feel like for me that's actually been a really important part of zero cons in years gone by is the rally cry that we finish on collectively presentation. I think a couple years ago that kind of helped to finish there. Um, we've had others where it's it's allowed us to really kind of come together before we then go out and party.

You know good accounting practices and you know get paid on time and whatever other bullshit we can kind of come up with. And look, if I go back to the theme, I also think, yeah, it's supercharged, but it's also around AI it's. Ai in everything. It's the buzzword, it's everywhere. If you look at most of the conversations being had on stage, there is some level of AI, and what Zero is currently pushing is AI everywhere right?

Well, they talked about JAX being not just ask, but just do or just done.

Just done, just done. So it's not just asking Slightly Just done. I'm not sure about, but it's more about the agentic AI.

It's the idea of what they're trying to achieve with it. It's like we don't want you just to be able to ask a question. We want it to actually be engaged yeah, to actually be engaged in what you're doing yeah, so they're going to have OpenAI and JAX.

Now they're going to be doing the auto-reconciling. They talked about the OneHub, the tax, xpm and work papers.

They've done an enormous amount of work on their platform and product and development, and definitely what was coming out today was the AI flavor and you'll see that.

Totally. What I also liked, looking through the agenda as well and I'm always big on this is there is a lot of human story-based stuff.

So, like Nat Lennon sharing her story, which is going to be cool, there's a whole bunch of people that specialize in the human side of things and I like that they've recognized recognized. If all we do is talk about AI and tech, this might create an overwhelming space for people where it's already hard enough in our life and our world to deal with the busyness, the demands, the expectations of, and if we then throw all this technology on top, it's like man, where do I keep up? But balancing that with human, I think, is really smart and I really did like how they had that flavour across the main stage this morning.

AI Everywhere & Human Connection

It really was about amplifying the human and really allowing the agentic AI to do heavy lifting for you. Yeah, and so that was exciting. And look, they have put an enormous amount of and from my experience on XPAC, I know that they're putting enormous amount around beta, around tying back into the community, about listening to the community, and so because there's danger in AI of you know, oh, everyone's going to take our jobs, so they're very, very conscious and aware of that, and so I do want to give big props to them that they recognise, that, they see that what we do is add value and, as part of every AI conversation on the main stage, they always have the human element as part of that, as the final piece.

Yes, To kind of wrap it up to and it's all about relationships and that's what they talked about as well. So they're still very much based in their core um, but I you know, when you're thinking about how they built the agenda, it was around those themes I think that they've most probably nailed them and they put an enormous amount of effort in to kind of pull this together and now enormous amount of effort.

I'm going to make a massive segue here into the fashion sense of zero con and the and and and the style. So now we've had. Yesterday there was events, there was I was at the access group mini golf day and they had a best dress that someone dressed up as happy gilmore's um caddy full with a white suit, fake beard, wearing one shoe, had a sock on a putter, like it was best dressed there, obviously.

Last night we had the Ignition Precon, yeah, and then tomorrow night we've got the Rap Party which is a glitter safari, safari glitterati. So which I looked at and I went nah, that just sounds too confusing and annoying.

Also think part of the unicorn is you've got a uniform unicorn. Yeah, part of the unicorn is you have to have something that stands out. So I think there's a lot of different people here from different businesses. They've got either their business branding or they're. They're really wanting to like you got an x-pack shirt, look at that, that's good. They really want. Everyone wants to kind of like be themselves here and like like just be a bit louder and a bit more freer, because oh, 100%.

They feel comfortable here. Rarely anybody. I cannot see anybody in a suit and I would be surprised if anybody rolled up in a suit.

But this is the value of places. People feel comfortable. Now they can be loud and they can be weird. It's like this is my community, this is my tribe, these are my people.

The other thing I wanted to know is and half the audience three of our team. We knew, yeah, three of our seven, half the people hadn't come to a zero con before, and when you consider how many zero cons there have been, that's many.

yeah right and I do wonder whether some people have tapped out of a zero con environment because they're like it's really good to see the new people. It's really good to see the fresh new people coming in different ideas, community ideas, and so that is exciting in itself that we can get to meet new people. Totally have some fun.
