Hey welcome. Domain Dave, cheapwinefinder.com. Another um, well, this is a value-priced wine. Today it wasn't always. I'll explain that one. This is a$9.99 Chardonnay. It's the thesis Russian River Chardonnay 2024. It's at Costco. That's where you want to buy it. I wasn't expecting anything. A$10 Chardonnay from Costco is usually a pretty good um bargain. You know, it's um they have great prices. So I go online, I'm looking at it, and I'm finding out that this is a wine that has sold for$35 to$50, and there are websites on the internet that have that price. I think$54 is the most I've seen. And uh, you know, case prices in the 200s, and it's like, ooh. Um so here I am with a$9.99 Chardonnay that is from a supplier, Fear du Sol, Flower of the Sun. Fanly uh owned winery in Napa. They're on the Silverado Trail. I think it's Silverado Trail. Yeah. Um they do wines for Trader Joe's, Aldi. I've seen them do, I think they've had Costco wines before, but this isn't a Costco wine per se. It's just the right price at Costco. And it's a Russian River Chardonnay. Russian River Sonoma, even though the winery is from Napa, the Russian River uh went east-west until long, long time ago, you know, with all the uh platonic things going on in Napa. Um took a right turn, or left turn, I guess, north, and depending on which way it runs, but ran north along the uh not too far from the coast. It's the second closest AVA in uh better take a sip. It's the second um closest AVA in Sonoma to the coast, the Sonoma coast, I'll go figure, is the closest, and that too does a lot of um Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. And the lower Russian River Valley is one of the premier Chardonnay and Pinot Noir areas, and it can get uh as you go north, it actually goes all the way through Mendocino, but as it goes north, it can get uh warmer in places, and then you you might get cabernets and that kind of stuff up there. So there isn't a lot of information, it's not on the the Fair du Souls website, which I'm shocked because if they're selling it for 35 to 50, you figure they'd put a little bit of effort in the marketing, but no. Um and it and well, why is it$10 a Costco? And wine and spirits, beer, all that stuff is down 14% or more for the last two years. And there's gotta get rid of some of these wines, they're not selling, people aren't ordering them. You know, it used to used to be uh liquor stores would or you know, wine shops would order huge amounts and you know, and and sell it all out and resell it again, you know, when they reordered, but that's not happening, and some of those wines, especially this Atheus thing, it might have been a different brand at one point and they put a different label on it. I'm saying it might have, I don't know that. Just so if things get better, they can still go back to the old brand. Because I've never, you know, as I said, why isn't there any information on this wine? That is curious, but I'm speculating there. I'm gonna take a sip of it. This is a wine that's got some weight to it. There's weight on the palate. Um, it's smooth, it's got good mouthfeel. There's vanilla in there. Uh um since they had no information, uh uh uh the the uh Google AI said it had 10 months in uh French oak. Okay. Um if it uses French oak, that means it's going for the more French, the uh burgundy style. Maybe a more feminine style where the um you know the a lot of the American Chardonnays are are a little bit huskier and they use some American oak too, which adds a few flavors. So this is more balanced and um well, I don't know if it's a feminine style or whatever, but it is it is nicely complex and it's got good weight to it. You know, one thing about$10 Chardonnays is they don't normally have weight to them. They hit you and they're fine, they taste good, but this one is um a different. I mean, they're just the way they made it had to be different. If it actually is a$35 to$50 Chardonnay, they don't make them the way they make$10 Chardonnays, even though this is a$10 Chardonnay at Costco. Container sip. Yeah, it tastes great. It's a nice Chardonnay. I mean, this is nice. Um, I do believe that it was three to five times the price. It does taste that way. I don't know if they could sell it at that price. I don't know if it's competitive at that price, but it's more than competitive at Costco's$9.99 price. So there you go. This is the thesis Russian River Chardonnay 2024. It is a wine that's from two-thirds off to 80% off the list price. Grab one of these. I mean, even if you don't, even if you just want to just try to find out, or maybe you never actually tried a$35 to$50 Chardonnay before. It's not your price range, and you do very well with what you got, give it a try. So, audios, keep it cheap. This is Domain Dave. I've got a Russian River Pinot Noir, another Costco wine, uh, not from the same people. But seems like Russian River is uh is hot right now. So we'll do a little bit of Russian River, we'll talk about that, and I'll see you in a couple days or talk to you in a couple days. Adios, keep it cheap. Bye bye.
