Honey Moon Viognier 2024
Viognier is a Northern Rhone Valley (France) blending grape.
It has a very fragrant scent and excellent natural acidity.
It can help both Red and White wines that need a little boost.
But when you put a chill on it, it makes a seriously good summer wine.
Six bucks for a really good wine is awesome.
Let this unassuming Trader Joe's White show you what cheap White wine can do.

Hey, welcome. Uh this is Domain Dave again always uh cheapwinefinder.com doing a um value price wine review podcast. We actually write up a review with pictures and links and all that stuff on the cheapwinefinder.com website, and this is the well let's let's talk about it because talking about it's more fun than writing about it. That's what I think, anyway. So today we've got a really cheapy but a really good one, and it's a Trader Joe's wine, it's been around for a while. I think we first reviewed it in the 2019 vintage, and this one is the Honeymoon V 2024. It's uh VA is V-I-O-G-N-E-R, and E I N N I E R. So it's not Viagner, it's uh V and A. It's French. It's from the Rhone Valley. At least the grape is originally from the Rhone Valley. Uh so um in California, Rhone grapes are tend to be in the central coast. There's no rule that says that. Um who made it? Uh there's a bunch of moon wines, moon axe moon, this type of moon, that type of moon. They've been around for a while, and they're made by uh a branch of Delicado wines from Lodi. They're a big company. They they're so big they recently bought out Copla wines, and they have so they've got Lodi grapes, they've got Sonoma grapes from that, and then they also have I think Napa and Central Coast wines grapes, and um they've held this$5.99 price for since the 2019 vintage. It's been a while, and there's a lot of pressure to make things more expensive, and they haven't. So we're gonna take a sip of this and and we'll talk about VA. It's nice. Um VA is usually a blending grape. It is typically um added because it has a really fragrant nose, and it has a lot of um uh good acidity, natural acidity. And if you got a wine that uh could use a little oomph, you know, both in the scent and in the body, or a little bit of VNA in there. And actually, it's one of the few white wines that are uh added to red wines. I mean in Australia, it's a lot. You got like I said, if you need a little help with the red wine, VA is your uh is your grape. So this is a good wine. It doesn't always come out as a single varietal, uh, but when it does, it is really kind of nice. It's got a kind of melon, anjou pear. Anjou pears are not the juicy ones and peachy kind of thing. Maybe dried pineapple, um good acidity, kind of maybe a um a sugary spice. This is a dry wine, but kind of a you know, a nice candy spice going on. And it sips real well. Put a chill on this thing, and it you it just it's just a really nice wine. I mean, it's it's a a great experience for drinking. It's$5.99. I mean, you can spend more on these things, but I think this kind of lighter style, um, you know, they're not trying to show off, it's just it is what it is. I mean, uh how I don't know how many vineyards is, how many VA um vineyards are there in California, so you know who knows where it's from. But they make it, you know, it's been there's gotta be enough of it around that they can keep the price uh where it needs to be, and keep the flavor where it needs to be too. I don't think I think this is kind of this is kind of like Savion Blanc where you pick the grapes, you crush them, stainless steel tanks, add the right yeast to get to bring out the right flavors, put it away for just a little bit of time, not too much, and then you got yourself a nice little white wine that really drinks well during the summer. That though you can drink it in the winter time, but this is outside, nice night, you know, just watching the stars or whatever. That's all I gotta say about it. It's$5.99, it tastes great. It's not your same old, same old. It's you know, if you're getting tired of Savion Blanc and Chardonnay, well, here you go. You've got a VA and it's five, you know, it's it's it's inexpensive. You don't have to, and it's uh even though it's six bucks, you don't have to apologize to anything anybody. This thing tastes great. It is just what you might want in a wine or that night. Like I said, and keep a nice chill on it. It would pair with maybe cold shrimp, you know, a nice salad, nothing too complicated, but just a nice salad. This would probably be, you know, this crisp acidity would help that. Uh maybe a little bit of um spicy Asian, if it's not too spicy, because it doesn't, you know, you don't want it to put it up, but have to put the fire out. You just want it to complement things. So there you go. Honeymoon VA 2024, Trader Joe's$5.99. It's five, it's six bucks of good. So there I go. We I think we got another wine in us before the we take a little break for uh Easter, but adios, keep it cheap, and I'll be talking to everybody in a couple of days. Adios, bye bye.
