There are stories… and then there are stories that stop you in your tracks. This is one of them.
From a childhood shaped by pain…
To training in martial arts under legends like Chuck Norris…
To a life spiraling into violence, brokenness, and addiction…Barry DeHart lived it all.
But this episode isn’t about where he started.
It’s about what didn’t finish him.
-Addiction didn’t win.
-Brokenness didn’t define him.
-His past didn’t get the final word.
Today…
Barry celebrates 40 YEARS OF SOBRIETY.
In This Episode:
• The hidden pain behind strength and success
• How addiction takes hold — and how it can be broken
• The turning point that changed everything
• What 40 years of freedom really looks like
• A message for anyone still fighting their battle
Why You Need to Hear This:
Because someone you know…
Is still in the fight.
And this story proves:
Freedom is possible
Change is real
Your past does NOT own your future
Hosted by Barry Scott Young
Real people. Real stories. Real change.
Resource:
Steps Toward a Life of Freedom:
1. Get Honest—For Real- Freedom starts when the excuses stop.
You can’t heal what you keep hiding.
2. Decide—No More “Someday- Change doesn’t happen by accident.
It begins with a moment: “I’m done living this way.
3. Don’t Fight Alone- Isolation feeds addiction.
Freedom grows in community—find someone who knows your story.
4. Replace, Don’t Just Remove- You can’t just quit something—you have to fill the space.
New habits. New rhythms. New direction.
5. Build Daily Discipline- Freedom isn’t a one-time breakthrough—
it’s a daily decision repeated over time.
6. Renew Your Mind- Your life follows your thinking.
Change what you believe, and you change how you live.
7. Expect the Fight- Temptation will come. Old patterns will call.
Be ready—not surprised.
8. Get Back Up—Fast- You may stumble. Don’t stay down.
Failure is a moment, not your identity.
9. Serve Others- Freedom grows when you stop living only for yourself.
Help someone else—and you strengthen your own breakthrough.
10. Hold Onto Hope- No matter how far you’ve gone—
freedom is still possible.
Freedom isn’t found in one big moment…
it’s built in small decisions—every single day.
