Seasons of Change

CLUCKY: Good Morning Kitten! I am so glad your shed is now fixed and You are back out in the yard with us. I didn't like having to wait so long to Maddox let you out. What were you doing all morning? Sometimes it was 9- am before you came out.

KITTEN: (Yawn) Clucky haven’t you ever hear of sleeping in?

CLUCKY: Bauk? Sleeping in What?

KITTEN: well your bed.

CLUCKY: Well of course I sleep in the coup every night.

KITTEN: No Clucky like stay asleep past sunrise. Don't get out of bed right away. (yawn)

CLUCKY: Bauk? What? That is crazy talk! I need to check the perimeter do my exercises and then I need to go wake everyone else up with my crowing. If I slept in, everyone would sleep in.

KITTEN: Exactly, we would all get to sleep in.

CLUCKY: Well that would just be chaos!

KITTEN: Or utopia.

CLUCKY: You-what-pia?

KITTEN: Utopia means paradise or heaven. (Sign)

CLUCKY: Are you telling me that the reason Maddox didn’t let you out till later in the morning was because you were sleeping IN?!

KITTEN: Well not every morning:.. a lot of mornings we would wake up and Maddox would read while in bed and pet me. Sometimes she would also tell me stories or just-what was on her mind.

CLUCKY: All this time I thought you were a captive trapped inside and you are telling me you liked staying in so late?

KITTEN: Clucky you wouldn't believe how much I have learned! Maddox and I read so many books! Did you know Maddox and Xander are on summer break?

CLUCKY: What is summer break?

KITTEN: Summer break is usually the break from school that Xander and Maddox have between changing grades. But this year was different. The schools were all shut down in March and did not reopen.

CLUCKY: Now that you mention it Xander and the family have been home a lot more. Usually, they leave on these this called vacations and while they are gone a lady named Suzanne comes to stay and take care of the beasts. She is super nice and always gives us extra worms B corn! She also makes the most incredible Rosemary bread. The smell fills the house, and she usually makes extra for us!

KITTEN: of course you, would remember someone because of the food they make.

CLUCKY: Oh, Miss Suzanne is more than just food. She is a calming presence for the beasts. She takes them on lots of walks and I’m sure they bark less when she is here. I have not seen her in ages. Come to think of It… That is unusual. The family usually leaves often on trips all over. I don't think they have been on a trip since you moved in.

KITTEN: You are right. I've never met this Miss Suzanne however she does sound wonderful.

(Bauk)

CLUCKY: OH she is!(Sigh) Oh rosemary bread…

KITTEN: Meow

CLUCKY: Bauk! Why do they call it summer break?

KITTEN: Huh? (meow)

CLUCKY: The break Xander and Maddox take between grades. Why is it called summer break? Seems like Level up or upgrade break would be a better name.

KITTEN: Well I think it is because it happen during the summer season

CLUCKY: Season? What's a season?

KITTEN: meow! A season is characterized by a particular circumstance of

feature.

CLUCKY: Bauk! Say What now? Are you even speaking English?

KITTEN: Oh Clucky, just because I use big words does not mean you are incapable of understanding them.

CLUCKY: There you go using big words again. Incapable. Bauk, I guess I know what that means it means not capable. But you could have just said, You are able to understand this.

KITTEN: meow let's take a step back and make this a little more fun)

(music starts.)

CLUCKY: OH a song? I always understand better with a song.

KITTEN: I thought you might. meow

Seasons Song

There are four seasons that bring us weather changes.

Seasons bring rain and sun to make flowers grow.

but in the cold months there’s sleet, ice and snow.

Winter is December January February. Temps so cold and bleak, be careful you could freeze your beak.

Bauk Frozen Beak.

Not to worry In March we thaw,

April showers bring May flowers.

Summers hot and the sun shines down in June, July and August. Plants grow big and days are long.

Then along comes fall. September, October and November. Leaves and temperatures drop and We are all thankful then for the great crop.

CLUCKY: Wow now I have so many questions?

KITTEN: meow really?

CLUCKY: Yeah! First of where in the world are you talking about? Cause Florida has 2 point 2 Seasons from What I can tell.

KITTEN: 2. 2 seasons?

CLUCKY: Yes, there is the hot season where it is sunny most of the time and then the hotter season where the temperature rises and there are afternoon thunderstorms. Then there is about 2 week where the temperatures get super cold like 40 degrees and it rains iguanas. That's the point 2 Season.

KITTEN: (laughs) Meow, I guess that song would have been confusing to someone born and raised in Florida. Well, most other parts of the country experience these seasons. Florida is a bit of an exception.

CLUCKY: A bit?

KITTEN: Ok Florida does not exactly experience the seasons like the rest of the country.

CLUCKY: I'll say.

MADDOX: Kitten… kitten Where are you?

CLUCKY: Bauk! Wonder. what all the fuss is about?

KITTEN: Meow! Over here. I hope everything is ok.

MADDOX: kitten, there you are. I just had to find you I have news.

KITTEN: meow.

MADDOX: Mom just told Xander and I that we are not going back to school but we are going to be home doing something called remote learning. I am not sure how I feel about it. (Pause) I miss seeing my friends.

XANDER: Clucky did you hear more time together. The ADHD Club VS remote learning. I wonder if mom will let you hang out with me while I am in class.

CLUCKY: Bauk Brawk Brack.

MADDOX: Xander you know that won't happen.

XANDER: Why not? I'll bet she'll let kitten hang out with you while you are logged in. Why not Clucky?

MADDOX: Really Xander? that is very different. Kitten just lays next to me. Clucky 'will be up crowing and searching for bugs. Mom won't let him in the house, he's not a house pet.

XANDER: It doesn't hurt to ask. Who knows. maybe we can make this work buddy.

CLUCKY: Bauk! Bauk.!

XANDER: I'm going to go ask. That would be the best part of this! Even if you can't attend class, we can at least have recess and lunch together.

CLUCKY: Bauk Lunch! He said the magic word!

XANDER: Mom! Where are you? I have a question for you. See you soon buddy.

MADDOX: OH Boy! I'm going to follow and see what mom has to say. I'm sure she will let you attend some classes with me. I'll let you know.

(Footsteps away)

KITTEN: Wow! meow! I wonder how the mom person is going to handle this. I'm excited that Maddox won't have to leave for school all day, but something seems amiss.

CLUCKY: Bauk! You mean something seems awesome! Xander said the magic word... Lunch Bauk! That means he comes out and shares his food with me! I get to taste all kinds of things? How could that be bad?

KITTEN: I'm not sure Clucky but as fun as it is to have Maddox and Xander around more, something feels wrong. I am going to get to the bottom of this.

Maybe I'll go ask Rubix.

CLUCKY: Rubix the Hamster of Doom? Are you sure you can trust her responses?

KITTEN: Rubix is in Maddox's room all the time. She hears thing.

CLUCKY: Yeah the crazy voices in her head telling her she must escape and rule the world..

KITTEN: Clucky, I told you that.

CLUCKY: Yeah but why would you want to talk to her?

KITTEN: For two reasons, One, she is lonely and two, she also hears a lot of what goes on. Now she may interpret it wrong, but she is a good source of info.

CLUCKY: well good luck!

KITTEN: Thanks, I will get to the bottom of this mystery.
