The Move Part 1: Freedom of Change

The cat is out of the bag!  No, no one put Kitten in a bag.  The pets find out they are moving to Washing Machine... I mean Washington!  How will they react?  Will there be excitement? Panic?  Plus 2 new songs! Tune in and get the answers to all these questions!

The Move, Part 1: Freedom of Change

CLUCKY: Cock-a-doodle doo! Good morning Hamster of Doom. 

MADDOX: Yawn. OH I wish Clucky would not crow outside my window. Doesn't he realize it is Saturday? We get to sleep in today. 

KITTEN: Meow 

RUBIX: Squeak squeak squeak. 

MADDOX: Look kitten he has even got Rubix squeaking. 

K'. Meow, If only you knew what he was saying…

RUBIX: OH just you wait rooster. Someday I will get you back for taunting me. squeak squeaky squeak. 

CLUCKY: Brauk Brauk Hamster of Doom so fluffy and small. Too bad you can't get out of your cage. Cock a doodle doo. 

RUBIX: Squeak Squeak! Your days are numbered rooster. 

MADDOX: Huh, the way they are squeaking and crowing you would think they are almost having a conversation. (stretching, yawn) Alright kitten it seems like we had better get up. If nothing but to shoo Clucky away from my window. (opens windows)

CLUCKY: Brank Branch! 

MADDOX: ok Clucky we are awake... go back to the hens now. 

CLUCKY: Bauk Bauk mission accomplished. I get so bored when Kitten sleeps in. 

MADDOX: OH thank goodness, he is gong away. (sigh)  

KITTEN: meow. 

MADDOX:(Flops down on the bed) Awe a little peace and quiet... (yawn) maybe we can rest a little longer. 

KITTEN: Meow. (yawns) that would be lovely. 

RUBIX: (hamster wheel squeaking) Why that loud, good for nothing rooster has got my fur all on edge. I will show him. He will rue the day he decided to taunt me. When I take over the world he will be the first to feel my wrath. 

MADDOX: Rubix, I know you really like your exercise wheel but must you run so much right now? Kitten and I are trying to sleep in. 

KITTEN: meow, come on Rubix there is no need to get so worked up. You know Clucky is just teasing you because he is bored. He does not mean any harm. meow. 

(wheel still squeaking) RUBIX: He needs to learn to keep his beak shut. (squeak) However, I have run off most of my anger at him. (Wheel Stops) I know his small brain cannot handle the big plans that I have. (Whaa ha ha squeak, squeak squeak) 

MADDOX: Well all the animals this morning seem to be very vocal. Maybe I can join in and tell you some of the thing that have been on my mind lately. 

KITTEN: Meow. 

MADDOX: I am getting a little nervous. There are lots of changes ahead and I am not sure how I feel about them. 

KITTEN: Meow, Go on. 

R'. (squeak) changes that could mean escape opportunities... 

MADDOX: Ha. It almost seems like you can understand me. Well even if you can't it just feels good to say things out loud. Mom and Dad recently told Xander and I that we are moving across the country to a state called Washington. 

KITTEN: meow! Washington! 

MADDOX: Kitten are you ok? Did I accidentally pull your fur? Why did you jump up? It's okay. Lay back down. 

KITTEN: Meow, calm down Kitten you need to find out more. 

RUBIX: (squeak) Yeah lay back down on those murder mittens so I can devise a plan. 

MADDOX: Good Kitty. 

KITTEN: Purr. Come on please tell me more. 

MADDOX: (sigh) I don't know where to start. I've grown up in Florida, all my friends are here. Sure we have visited family out west but never more than a couple of weeks.  What if I don't like it? What if it is too cold? What if I don't like my new school? 

KITTEN: Meow that is a lot of what ifs! 

RUBIX: (squeak squeak) Blah Blah blah When is this happening? How far away is Washington. 

MADDOX: Kitten, what it you don't like the rainy days? You don't like water... 

And it is so far away. I looked at the map and it is just over 3000 miles away! I don't know if we will ever make it back to visit. 

RUBIX:(squeak!) 3000 miles. plus packing up to move. My escape is almost a guarantee! 

KITTEN:(Meow, purr, meow) So many questions… Don't worry it will all work out. I'll be here beside you the whole time. 

MADDOX: Thanks for the snuggles kitten. I knew I could count on you to help me feel better. 

RUBIX: (Music) Moving means Freedom.  Pack the boxes and I’ll nibble my way out.  Moving Means Freedom.  It’s so close, I could shout! Squeak!

(Music transition) 

(morning birds) 

KITTEN:(Run)  Clucky! 

CLUCKY: Finally! Man, I thought you were gong to sleep the day away. Did the H.O. D like my greeting? 

KITTEN: Clucky, you really shouldn't taunt Rubix like that. I know it hurts her feelings.. 

CLUCKY: Brauk! You are joking right? She actually said she like the nickname hamster of Doom. 

BELLA: Bauk! Oh kitten it is so good to see you! Clucky has been so bored this morning without you. 

BRIGIT: Yes, he has been making us do drills and exercises while we waited. 

BRIGITTA: If I had to do one more lap around the perimeter, I was going to crow. I'm a hen, it is very hard for us to do that. 

KITTEN: Good morning Brigit, Bella and Birgitta. 

CLUCKY: I'm so bored Kitten!

KITTEN: That's wonderful! 

CLUCKY: Wait, What now? Didn't you hear me correctly? I said I’m bored...

KITTEN: I did hear you and I still think it is wonderful. Borden is so full of possibilities. 

CLUCKY: Did you fall out of a tree and hit your head recently? 

BELLA: You don't seem to be talking sense. 

BRIGIT: I don't care if you talk sense or not as long as you make Commander Clucky take a break from all the drills. 

KITTEN: (Music starts) When you are bored, your mind takes a break. It is free to wander and explore. 

CLUCKY: What is there to explore? We are in the yard like we always are. 

BRIGITTA: We have done drills all morning. 

KITTEN: Open your eyes 

Take a look around 

You'll find things 

you've never found. 

CLUCKY: (talking) All I see is a pile of dead leaves over there. 

KITTEN: (singing) Let's dig a little deeper

And discover something new

It’s an adventure for me and you.

A free pass to roam the grass.

Wonders abound as we look around

CLUCKY: well that was a nice song Kitten and Ladies but I'm not sure I'm a believer. 

KITTEN: Open your mind Clucky, lets go check out that pile of leaves. 

CLUCKY: Are you serious? Bauk! 

KITTEN: of course (meow) 

(footsteps) 

CLUCKY: See Kitten it's just a pile of leaves that has started to rot. 

BELLA: It does not appear to be a great discovery. 

KITTEN: Why don't you scratch at it with your claws. 

BRIGIT: I'll do it. OH I scratched off the top few leaves. Do the lower leaves appear to be moving? 

CLUCKY: OH no Kitten! It’s not another snake is it? I can 't handle another Severus? 

BRIGITTA: Should we flock back to the coup for safety? Brauk. 

KITTEN: Don 't panic. Discoveries require courage. Why don't you take one more layer away. 

BELLA: You do it Bridget, I'll be brave next time. 

BRIGIT: ok but don't abandon me if it’s something sinister. 

CLUCKY: We've got your back! 

BRIGIT: Ok, her goes (scratch) OH my! There are bugs! Lots of huge bugs! 

CLUCKY: Coach roach Creams!!! Oh those are my favorites! (crunch) 

BRIGITTA: Oh save some for me. 

BRIGIT: They are so crunchy! (Double Crunch) 

CLUCKY: Oh, They can fly! Nothing like a snack on the go! (Crunch)

BRIGITTA: Flying Fast Food! (Crunch) Yum!

KITTEN: In Florida, they are called Palmetto Bugs.  

BELLA: Palmetto bugs?  But aren’t they just flying cockroaches?

KITTEN: You are correct but I think Floridian’s just like the sound of palmetto bug better.  

BRIGIT: Did you know these delicious treats were here? 

KITTEN: Actually I did.  There was a palmetto bug in the house and the mom person thought it may have crawled in from a pile of dead leaves.  

CLUCKY: Are you saying that these delicious treats can be found in all pile of dead leaves?

KITTEN: Yes, most of them.  Their preferred food is decaying plant matter. 

BELLA: Decaying plant what?

KITTEN: Decaying plant matter.  Matter is a general term that means anything that takes up space or can be weighed.  

BRIGITTA:  That sounds so scientific!  (Crunch)

CLUCKY:  That’s our Kitten, always learning new things with Maddox.  (Slurp)

KITTEN: Oh Clucky, that reminds me I have news!  We are moving to Washington! 

CLUCKY: (Splutters, coughs) BRAUK!  Cough!  I must have heard you wrong, did you way we are moving to Washing Machine?  

BELLA:  What is that? 

BRIGITTA: I am dry clean only!

KITTEN: Not Washing machine…. Washington.  It is a state in the pacific northwest about 3000 miles away from here. 

CLUCKY: Washington that is where Piper the pelican was from. She said they had snow there. 

KITTEN: oh yes, you are right. 

CLUCKY: She said it was an evil white fluffy blanket that covers that land and should be avoided at all cost. Her family flew 3,000 miles away to avoid it. 

(Gasps from the hens!) 

BELLA: Do you think we will migrate every year after we move? 

BRIGITTA:  We can’t fly!  Will we have to take flying lessons?  

KITTEN: Chickens are not birds of flight, I don’t think lessons will help. 

BRIGIT:  How will we survive the fluffy white blanket of cold?  

CLUCKY:  This is terrible news!  We must panic! Cock a doodle 

KITTEN: Oh no you don’t! Everyone calm down right now!  There is no need to panic.  (Bauk!) There is never a need to panic!  Now Maddox told me this and she is very worried.  She needs me to be strong and help comfort her.  I am sure Xander will be coming to all of you too.  The kids are worried and afraid of the unknown.  We might be too, but it is our jobs as pets to be there for our kids!  We must snuggle and be silly to keep their spirits up.  

This move has the potential to be a grand adventure.  Adventures just like discoveries require courage. We need to have courage for our kids.  

CLUCKY:  You are right Kitten.  I’m sorry I started to panic.  That is so unlike me. 

BRIGIT: Sure you never panic. 

KITTEN: Well, thank you for pulling it together.  Now don’t fret about the snow.  Xander has always taken great care of all of you.  I’m sure he will have a solution for the snow.  It will be a long time before we have to deal with that.  

CLUCKY:  What do you think we can do to help Xander and Maddox feel better?

KITTEN: What does Xander like to do? 

CLUCKY: He loves battling and guarding the perimeter.

BELLA: He loves to pretend that he is battling fearsome beasts.

BRIGITTA: Remember the time I pretended to be a large dragon and I stood on top of Brigit?  Brauk Brauk Brauk.  

BRIGIT: How could I forget, I could not walk straight for 2 days. That was no fun!

KITTEN:  It was certainly fun for Xander. 

CLUCKY: I like we’ve got the idea.  Ok Ladies, lets call it Operation Fluffy Feathers.  We’ll keep Xander’s spirts up while we tackle this move.  

BELLA:  Operation fluffy feathers?

BRIGIT:  Why not operation soft landing? 

BRIGITTA: Yes, I vote Operation Soft Landing.  We are landing in a new location after all. 

CLUCKY:  Alright, Operation Soft Landing it is.  Now let's go find Xander and play some games!
