ROSIE:Ruff ruff ruff! People and boxes! Today is the day that the friends are coming to help pack up the house!
Mom: ok doggies out of the way. I need to let in our visitors!
[Barking]
GUEST:[Hola, Chao Chao]
ROSIE: I must go find Maddox. She needs to know people are here! Ruff.
JACK: Ruff, It’s back to my pillow for me. No danger just friends. I'll supervise from my comfy spot.
ROSIE: Ha supervise in deed. I'm pretty sure supervision requires your eyes to be open.
JACK: Harrumph.
ROSIE: Ruff, Kitten, Maddox today is our day!
MADDOX: Hi Rosie, did I hear? Are our friends here to help us pack up?
ROSIE: Ruff!
MADDOX: Good girl thanks for letting us know.
ROSIE: Ruff, off to tell Xander.... (paws running).
KITTEN: meow, she is very excited.
MADDOX: I'm so glad our friends have come to help. It is easier to pack up things with friends to talk to. It helps me to be distracted from the thought of leaving.
KITTEN: Meow. (hop.) I think I'll go check on Chucky.
MADDOX: Are you headed out to the yard?
KITTEN: Meow
MADDOX: I understand, it's probably too much commotion for you. Say Hi to Chucky and the hens for me.
KITTEN: meow
[Transition music]
SCENE 2:
[swords clinking]
XANDER: Get back you visions beast! This is my home and I shall defend it from you and your horde of feathered fiends.
CLUCKY: Cock a doodle doo? Charge Ladies.
HENS: Bauk!
XANDER: Trying to surround me?' It' won 't work. Ha Chucky-I have blocked you with my shield.
CLUCKY: Brank Brank!
XANDER: OH still think you can win?
CLUCKY: Bauk!
XANDER: Look what I have! My secret weapon. Meal worms!
HENS: Food, worms Bank?
CLUCKY: No! He has deployed the ultimate weapon?
BELLA: We are doomed.
BRIDGET: Deliciously doomed.
BRIGITA: He does not fight fair.
KITTEN: meow.
XANDER: OH hey kitten. You are just in time to witness my victory.
CLUCKY: munch munch. He cheated.
KITTEN: meow
XANDER: OH is that people I hear? Guess I had better head in and help with the packing: Thank you Commander Clucky for an epic battle.
CLUCKY: Brank! [Foot steps away]
KITTEN: meow, are now enjoying your spoils of war?
CLUCKY: These worms are not spoiled.
BRIGITA: No they are quite delicious!
KITTEN: Spoils of war refers to the treasures you get for conquering a place, not that the food is bad.
CLUCKY: OH well then yes. Even though we lost the battle Xander always gives us treats.' You don't think he will forget to pack the treats right?
BELLA: Should we go remind him?
KITTEN: Of course he won't forget the treats. Has he ever forgotten treats?
BRIDGET: Well No.
KITTEN: Besides there are a lot of people in the house putting things in boxes. I was afraid my tail might get stepped on so I ventured out to see all of you.
CLUCKY: Xander said it was packing day. He came out here for a quick battle
Because he said he was feeling worried.
KITTEN: What was he worried about.?
BELLA: Lots of things.
BRIDGET: What if he forgets to pack something?
BRIGITA: What it something gets lost along the journey?
CLUCKY: What if we don't like traveling in our crate?
BELLA: What if you and the dogs get in an epic battle on the journey.
BRIDGET: What if one of the animals escapes at a rest stop?
KITTEN: Wow! He is worried about a lot of things. How did you help him? He seemed fine just now.
CLUCKY: Of course, he is fine now. We are advanced in the healing arts of chicken battle therapy.
KITTEN: Meow What?
CLUCKY: Chicken Battle Therapy. We become a monster and we battle.
KITTEN: I don't think that is really a therapy,
BRIGITA: It works for Xander. You see he was much more relaxed and ready to tackle packing after he defeated the, how did he put it? OH yes the feathered fiends.
KITTEN: Are you worried about the move? It seems like Xander had a lot of valid questions.
BELLA: What are valid questions?
KITTEN: It means they are good question to ask. He is logically thinking about the problem and asking really good question.
CLUCKY: Well of course he is. Our Xander is always look for ways to be good ADHD club member. It makes perfect sense that the Amazingly Determined Helpful dudes would ask valid questions.
BRIGITA: You are quite right.
KITTEN: You are all being wonderful pets to help and helping him fight off worry. How do you think the trip will go? Are any of you worried?
CLUCKY: Well I must say I was certainly concerned when we first found out about the move. It’s a big change and none of us know what to expect. But after talking with you, the hens and listening to Xander I realize that no matter what happens we are family it we’ll get though it together.
KITTEN: Wow Clucky! That is so true. We have each other. Sharing our struggles makes it seem like less of a challenge somehow. I am so glad Maddox picked me from the pound that day.
BRIDGET: We are glad you joined our flock as well.
BRIGITA: When you are fending off a foe you want an army with you. And when battling worries friends by your side make it so much easier.
BELLA: Well put Brigita.
[Music Transition]
SCENE 3
ROSIE:Oh my what a horrible day! Woken up by rude little hands pulling me out of my habitat. “Oh look at the cute little hamster” Will see how cute she thinks I am now that she has marks from my teeth. Ha HA HA.
What is this?! Is my door ajar. I can’t believe it they left my door open. This means… I am freeee. Ha Ha Look out world, Here comes Rubix!!! Ha Ha. What will I do now? I know. I will start recruiting my army. I will start with Brownie the hamster in Xander’s room.
SCENE 4
RUBIX: Hey Chubby! Are you awake?
BROWNIE: Huh? Who’s there?
RUBIX: It is I Rubix Olivander! I’ve come to set you free so you can join my army and help me start the Hamster Revolution.
BROWNIE: Hamster What?
RUBIX:The Hamster Revolution. Where I will lead all the hamsters in a revolt to take over the world.
BROWNIE: How will you do that? We are small and fuzzy. Not very scary.
RUBIX: I will teach you to be fierce and to use your teeth.
BROWNIE: Why would I want to? Xander takes great care of me and I have all the seeds and treats I like.
RUBIX: Don’t you want more? Like ultimate power and control?
BROWNIE: Humm, No.
RUBIX:What?!! What is wrong with you?
BROWNIE: I am happy where I am. I love Xander, he takes good care of me. I have a wheel and a little castle to burrow under. I am very happy here.
RUBIX:Bah, a better life is out there! I am offering it to you. One where we make the rules. Come, Join me!
BROWNIE: No, I don’t think I will. I do not want to rule over humanity.
RUBIX: Fine have it your way. I will leave this door open for you if you change your mind. I am off now. Squeak!
[scampers away]
BROWNIE: Bye, Have fun taking over the world! Humm she left my door open. I wonder if I can shut it. I’ll have to crawl out the door to try and pull it up…. Oh… Oh No! I’m slipping. AHHH. Ooof! Oh no! I have fallen out of my habitat. How will I get back in? It is really high and the walls are smooth. What to do? I can not wake Xander, his bed is up high and I cannot climb up there. Oh no! Squeak! [creak] What was that noise? I had better run and hide. I need to find a safe dark spot till morning when Xander is up. [scamper noises]
SCENE 5
MADDOX: Mom! Mom! It’s awful! I woke up this morning and Rubix cage door was open! She is no where to be found in my room! What if something bad has happened to her?!
MOM: Oh honey if any animal could fend for itself, it seems to me that Rubix would be it.
XANDER: Mom, Brownie’s escaped his habitat too!
MOM: Really both hamsters got out? How is that possible.
MADDOX: Well our friends were playing with them yesterday while we were packing. I guess we did not make sure the habitat doors were fully latched.
XANDER: We have to find them! Rosie do you think you can help? Brownie has gone missing.
ROSIE:Bark! I know! I can smell this little guy! Come over here!
XANDER: Mom, I think she knows something. Lets follow her.
MOM: I don’t know Xander she could just be excited about the attention.
ROSIE: Well of course I love attention but I know where the little guy is! Ruff!
XANDER: Ok Rosie, we will follow you.
ROSIE: [scampering noises] [sniffing.] Ruff! Here he’s here.
XANDER: Rosie, this is the bottom of mom’s closet.
ROSIE:Ruff! I know, he is under there.
XANDER: Mom, She seems to think that Brownie has gotten under the boards in the bottom of your closet. Is that possible?
MOM: Maybe, he might have been able to squeeze between the carpet and the bottom boards.
ROSIE: [growl] Ruff!
MOM: Ok, Rosie step back. Let me take a closer look. Xander hold Rosie will you? If Brownie is under there, I don’t want her to snatch him up in her teeth. She may think he is a toy.
XANDER: Ok, I’ve got her. Good Girl Rosie. Let me hold you.
ROSIE: Oh I want to see.
XANDER: Mom, do you hear that? I think I hear some scratching on the board.
MOM: I think you are right! I think I can remove the top board. Hamsters do like dark spots to sleep during the day. [scraping noise as board lifts up.]
XANDER: Brownie!!! You are alive and safe!! Good Girl Rosie! You did find him!
ROSIE: See! See! I told you it was him!
BROWNIE: Xander, Oh it is so bright here. Can you please put me back in my little castle? I need a nap. I have been walking for miles!
MOM: Xander, let me take Rosie and you pick of Brownie and get him back to his habitat.
ROSIE: Ruff! Ruff! Winner! Winner! I found him!
MOM: Come here Rosie. You are such a good girl. Let me hold you while Xander takes brownie back.
XANDER: Come on Brown Brown. Oh what a good little guy, crawling right into my hand. You had quite and adventure. You made it from my room all the way across the house! That is a long way!
BROWNIE: It sure is! I am so tired! [squeak, yawn]
XANDER: Did you just yawn? Poor guy lets get you back to your little castle. [footsteps]
MADDOX: Oh Wow! Great job Rosie, you found Brownie. Any ideas where Rubix might be?
ROSIE: [whines] I’m sorry Maddox, he was the only one I could smell.
MADDOX: No ideas huh?
ROSIE:[sniffing] I’ll sniff around some more…. I can smell her leaving your room but here sent gets lost in the kitchen.
MADDOX: She seems to be sniffing the hall and the kitchen. What do you think Dad?
DAD: Rosie is not a hunting dog. The kitchen also has lots of smells that might distract her from Rubix sent. Don’t worry honey, we will keep looking.
MADDOX: Thanks Dad!
ROSIE: Oh Maddox is sad. I want to help [whines]
MADDOX: It’s ok, Rosie, I have faith she will turn up. She is a very willful hamster. It is getting late in the morning. She may have already found a dark spot to sleep.
DAD: I was reading online and they say hamsters will search out dark spots cramped spots to sleep, like maybe inside washers and dryers or under refrigerators or dishwashers. Brownie did make it all they way across the house to the primary suite closet. Maybe Rubix is in the laundry room.
RUBIX: Ha Ha Ha! [squeak squeak] They will never find me! I have picked my hideout well. Not even the little beast can smell me in here. The kitchen was the perfect hiding spot. All the other food smells will mask my scent. [gurgle] I am hungry… it’s too back I cannot get to any of the food. I was only able to stuff my cheeks with a small amount of food for my journey… I have already eaten all of it. No Matter. I will get some day sleep and come up with a plan when I wake. [gurgle] be quiet traitorous stomach! There will be discomfort when one takes over the world.
Scene 6
[music transition]
[Water running and dishes being loaded in the dishwasher]
MADDOX: Did you thoroughly check the dishwasher before you starting to load it?
MOM: Hey Maddox, of course I did. I did not see Rubix inside at all. Besides it was shut so I don’t this she could have gotten inside of it. With the dishes.
MADDOX: True but maybe she is hiding under it.
MOM: Maybe but we did shine a light under it to check. We could not see anything.
MADDOX: I’m so worried mom! Its been hours! We have not found her anywhere. We moved the fridge, washer and dryer and there was no sign of her.
MOM: I know honey. Don’t give up hope. She may just be sleeping right now. It is almost 6pm, she usually gets up around that time. Why don’t you put some of her favorite treats out near the dishwasher, fridge and washer and dryer? Only put 3 little treats in each spot. That way if she takes one, we will know where she is hiding.
MADDOX: You don’t think she escaped outside do you?
MOM: I don’t see how. She got out of her cage last night while we were all sleeping. You and your brother notices the hamsters were missing right away this morning. The only time the doors to outside have been open is to let the dogs out. I’m pretty sure Rosie, Jack Dad or I would have noticed her if she was trying to escape outside.
MADDOX: Yes, I suppose you are right. But where could she be?
MOM: just because she is not inside the dishwasher with the dishes does not mean she has not crawled under it or up on the side. I thought I heard a faint rustling sound earlier today around here. I am not sure. It could be wishful thinking. I am going to start it. Maybe the noise will wake her up and she will come out if she is under it.
[Dishwasher rack slides in]
RUBIX:AAAHHH! Oh my what is all that racket?! Is there an earthquake? This whole place is shaking? [gurgling noise] Is that my stomach? No, I am hungry, but I am definitely not making that much noise. I wish I would have thought to take more food with me. I only stuffed my cheeks full and I have alas eaten of my reserves.
[Another Dishwasher rack moves in and door shuts]
No more sleep for me! I had better find a new spot. Climb climb. Wait do I smell seeds? [gurgle] Yes stomach I know you are hungry. Oh I do smell seeds and those little dried fruit chucks that Maddox used to give me. I see them! Oh they are very close to the open area… I am not sure I should try to get them… [gurgle] Traitorous stomach! Don’t you realize we are free… [gurgle] fine, I will see if I can snatch one.
MADDOX: Now that you have started it, I am going to check one more time under the dishwasher. Can I borrow your flashlight?
MOM: Sure
MADDOX: Mom, I see her! She is under there!
RUBIX: AhH! What is that bright light! I am blinded.
MOM: That’s wonderful! Quick get some more treats and the little fuzzy sack she likes to hide in.
MADDOX: Yes, if we put some food in there maybe she will crawl in and I will be able to put her back in her habitat. [footsteps]
RUBIX:Ugg! I am seeing spots! What was that flash of light? [gurgle] squeak! Yes, I will get the seeds, I just need to be able to see where I am gong first.
MADDOX: I’ve got it mom and some extra treats!
MOM: Great, why don’t you place them some treats in the sack and tip it on its side. Place it in front of the dishwasher.
MADDOX: Ok, its there. Now what?
MOM: Now we wait. Try to be quiet so she does not get scared back in there.
RUBIX:Blink Blink. Ok, I can almost see again. Oh it looks like something has been dropped in front of the dishwasher. Good, I will have some cover while I investigate those seeds. OOHH, There are a whole bunch of seeds! Perfect, I will be able to stockpile these while I plot my next move.
MADDOX: I think it is moving.
MOM: Yes, you are right. Quick snatch it up and cover the top.
RUBIX:Huh? What? I am moving. NOOOOO! It was a trap! I have been caught! Squeeeek!
MADDOX: Don’t worry Rubix, we will get you back to your home. You are safe now.
