The Move Part 3: The Journey Begins

EPISODE 8: THE MOVE PART 3: THE JOURNEY BEGINS

RUBIX:

 Of all the bad luck.! I cannot believe I got captured so easily! A sack of seeds!

(SILENCE) 

All quiet now when you are full neck stomach? 

(SILENCE) 

Bah, well with every failure we learn something. So what have I learned? 

1) Eat a lot before next escape attempt. Stomach cannot be trusted. 

2) Figure out a food source or way to carry food with me. Cheeks although helpful, cannot store enough food. 

3) Don 't waste time on Brownie he is no ally.

KITTEN:

Good morning Rubix. who are you talking to? 

RUBIX:

squeak! OH it is you. What do you want? 

KITTEN:

Just came to wish you a good morning and see how you are feeling? Today is moving day. 

(SIGH) 

RUBIX:

Oh I am fine. I am annoyed by my capture, but I am making plans to have a more successful escape next time. With every failure there is a lesson to be learned. 

KITTEN:

You still want to escape after what happened last time?

RUBIX:

of course I want to escape? I cannot rule the world from this tiny cage. I mean look at this new cage. It is so small. It barely fits my wheel, food and water. I can run across it in 2 seconds and climb up and around the whole thing in 7 seconds. It feels like a great punishment. 

KITTEN:

meow, of course it is not a punishment. We are leaving today and your normal habitat is too big to fit in the large metal people carrier on wheels. Can you believe we are leaving today? 

(SIGH) 

RUBIX:

Finally! All of the people in and out moving things around and stirring up so & much dust. Also, stopping to try and pet me. I am ready to go! 

KITTEN 

Won't you miss this place? It's been your home since you were brought from the pet store. 

RUBIX: 

Squeak! my home? Bah! You mean it has been my prison since I was taken from my loyal followers at the pet store. I think the store employees knew a revolt was coming and wanted to get ride of me. I wonder it they had an informant. I bet it was Cheeks. He probably squeaked the plan for more seeds.

KITTEN 

OH Rubix. The world is not out to get you. Maddox truly does care for you. She was so worried when you were missing. 

RUBIX: 

Yeah worried I would turn the tables on her and put her in a cage. 

KITTEN 

Meow Rubix, I do not see how this crazy plan of yours will work? You are a small fuzzy white hamster. How do you think you will be able to take over the world and control humans? 

RUBIX: 

Squeak squeak very tricky kitten I see what you are doing. You pretend to want to be my friend but you are really just trying to get close to me so you can discover my plan. Once you do you will go straight to the humans and betray me. No, No. I will not fall for your tricks. I will keep my plans to myself. 

KITTEN 

meow. Whatever you say Rubix I am ok to go say good bye to the yard.

RUBIX: 

Say goodbye to the yard? It is not alive. I does not have feeling 

KITTEN 

The yard my not have feelings but I will miss it so I want to take one last look before we go. I'll see you in the people mover with wheels. 

RUBIX:

Unless I escape first. Squeak. 

KITTEN 

meow 

(MUSIC TRANSITION) 

CLUCKY: 

hop, hop, 

WINGS FLAP

Whew. I thought I'd find you up here.

KITTEN 

I am going to miss this view. I wonder if the new place will have a view of a pond. 

CLUCKY: 

Xander told me there are lots of huge trees and woods. He also said there was a small pond. Not like this but it has a waterfall. 

KITTEN 

A waterfall. I had not heard that. 

(SIGH) 

CLUCKY: 

I wonder if there will be new bugs out west. You just helped us discover the cockroach creams, I hope they have those! 

KITTEN 

meow! It is always food with you. 

CLUCKY: 

Well I must eat to survive. 

KITTEN 

I do not think your survival is threatened... 

CLUCKY: 

Did you come up here to get away from all the commotion down below?

KITTEN 

Yes. 

CLUCKY: 

Saying your final goodbyes? 

KITTEN 

I just have so many mixed feelings. 

CLUCKY: 

You must have mixed feelings if you are up here in the sun at 7am, in the 85 degree heat, with the air so thick you can almost drink it. 

KITTEN 

Everything is going to change I hear the mornings in Washington are 50 degrees. 

CLUCKY: 

50 degrees! In the summer? 

KITTEN 

Yes, the temperatures can range 40 degrees in a single day. 

CLUCKY: 

Wow, this is going to be different. It is super rare for the temperature here to change more than 10 degrees all day.  Can you imagine it being 50 degrees in the morning and 90 in the afternoon?  

KITTEN 

It is hard to imagine… Are you excited?

CLUCKY: 

Part of me is. Part of me is sad to go. This is the only place I have known. 

KITTEN 

This is the first home, I've ever known. 

CLUCKY: 

Well me too. But the cool thing about home is that it is not a location. It's the loved ones you surround yourself with. 

(MUSIC STARTS)

KITTEN 

All new, we're starting out

 unknown thing to discover

 one step at a time

CLUCKY: 

Long. this road will be winding and long .  So very long

KITTEN 

I am scared 

feeling so unprepared.

This... was home 

CLUCKY: 

Our love ones are home. 

KITTEN 

You are right. 

I won't waste time on fear 

I know you will be here 

CLUCKY: 

Families stick together There's no storm we cannot weather. 

 You have me and I have You

Together we'll get through 

Home, we'll find our new home. 

MUSIC ENDS

KITTEN 

OH Chucky thank you! I just needed to get all those fears out. I feel like they have just been bubbling under the surface for so long. making my tummy feel like it was doing back flips.

CLUCKY: 

Anytime kitten! It's ok to be scared. The best thing you can do is talk to someone about your feelings. I can’t change the situation but I think there is comfort in knowing we are in it together. 

KITTEN 

Meow! Agreed. What are you wearing? I was so distracted I just noticed. 

CLUCKY: 

OH you like that? I am looking pretty dapper in my new threads. 

KITTEN 

What is it? 

CLUCKY: 

It is my travel harness. It clips around my neck on under my wings and has a little hook on the back. that Xander can hook a leash to. I think it looks pretty smart, like I'm wearing a Chicken vest. 

KITTEN 

It is quite dashing. You say a leash can be hooked to it? 

CLUCKY: 

Yes Xander put one on me and each of the hens. This way when we stop for breaks Xander can take us all out for a walk and to find bugs. He said he is not sure if all the places we are staying will have fenced yards and he wanted us to be able to stretch our legs without us wounding too far. 

KITTEN 

How thoughtful. 

CLUCKY: 

That's our Xander super thoughtful. I think Maddox has something similar for you. It's not black like mine but I think it is teal. 

KITTEN 

Teal! I Love teal. I am not sure how I feel about wearing a vest. However it Maddox thinks I need it. I'll give it a try. 

MOM: 

Kids, have you seen kitten and Chucky? It's almost time to go. I've got Rosie and Captain Jack in the car. 

MADDOX:  

I think they are up on their perch. I'll go find them. 

CLUCKY: 

Well looks like we had better head down. Good bye Perch. Germano!.. 

(FLAPPING.) 

KITTEN 

Meow 

(SIGH) 

Goodbye Perch! Adventure awaits. 

(MUSIC) 

KITTEN 

Finally! 

(STRETCH)  

Whoa I feel so wobbly. Like the ground under me is moving. 

CLUCKY: 

Land! Grass! Muah Muah! . OH solid ground! It has been too long. 

BELLA: 

Freedom! Brawk!

BRIDGET: 

(SHAKING OUT.) 

OH my ruffled feathers! 

BRIGITTA: 

Please tell me we are a most there. 

MADDOX:  

Xander, I don't think kitten and the chickens enjoyed the car ride. It almost looks like Chucky is kissing the ground. 

XANDER: 

It is pretty tight quarters in their crate. It appears that kitten is also in need of a good stretch. 

MADDOX:  

Luckily there is a dog park close by for Rosie and Captain Jack. I think Rosie is on her 3rd lap around the park already. 

XANDER: 

I can see Mom and Dad playing fetch with Jack. Even he was tired of being in the car.

MADDOX:  

Too bad they don't have a cat and chicken park where we could let these guys roam free. 

XANDER: 

At least the leashes let us get them out. 

CLUCKY: 

I am sorry to break it to you Brigitta but we have several more days of travel. 

BRIGITTA: 

Bawk What?! We have to go back in? 

BELLA: 

Are you serious? 

KITTEN 

Unfortunately he is. Meow 

BELLA: 

oh this just can't be true! 

CLUCKY: 

Now come on ladies we need to make the best of this. What do you say to doing a few drills to get our blood moving? 

BRIGITTA: 

Really Clucky drills?  after what we have been through today? 

BELLA: 

All the shaking and the blowing wind. in the back of the covered truck bed?

BRIDGET: 

I think Xander opened the windows so we would keep cooler and have fresh air. I'm sure he does not know how noisy it is back there. 

BRIGITTA: 

Can you imagine how hot it would be back there if the windows were not open? I'm sure we would' all swoon. 

CLUCKY:

I’m sure you are right Brigitta. 

BELLA: 

OH a worm! 

(SLURP) 

Well that made me feel better.

BRIDGET: 

Let's see if there are more. 

BRIGITTA: 

OH found one of my own 

(SLURP). 

Yes I deserve a dozen after the torture we were put through 

CLUCKY: 

Yum! 

(SLURP) 

KITTEN 

Meow oh that is not helping my already upset stomach. You all enjoy. I’m going to stretch my legs for a bit. 

(MUSIC) 

MADDOX:  

Come on Rubix, How would you like some time in your exercise ball? I'll hold it at your cage door. You can just crawl right in. 

RUBIX: 

Humm... I wonder if I can push my way through the space between my cage door and the ball...

MADDOX:  

No silly girl. You are supposed to crawl into the ball not on the side...

RUBIX: 

Squeak! I know what you want me to do... 

XANDER: 

Why don't you just pick her up and put her in the ball like I do with Brownie? 

RUBIX: 

Yes, try and lift me out Maddox Wha ha ha. 

MADDOX:  

Um, that is not a good idea. Last time I tried to pick her up she bit me so hard, I bled. I also almost dropped her. I think she is very scared of being picked up... 

RUBIX: 

I am not scared. I want you to drop me. 

BROWNIE: 

Come on Rubix. Don't you want to get out and roll around for a bit?

RUBIX: 

You certainly could use the exercise chubby. 

BROWNIE: 

Hey, that's not very nice. I come from a long line of big boned hamsters. 

RUBIX: 

Sure whatever you need to tell yourself. 

BROWNIE: 

I am just as fit as you. How about we race? 

RUBIX: 

You want to Race me? Really? 

BROWNIE: 

Sure, climb into your ball and we can race. 

RUBIX: 

Your on chubby and when I win, you have to join my revolt the next time I escape. 

BROWNIE: 

I don't believe you will win but if I win, I want you to stop biting Maddox. 

RUBIX: 

Stop biting Maddox? Can I still bite others?

BROWNIE: 

Ok but Maddox is your person and you should not bite her. You are giving hamsters a bad name. 

RUBIX:

My person?! Buh. she is my captor, but I agree. 

MADDOX:  

Good girl Rubix, you made it into your ball. 

XANDER: 

Set her down next to Brownie maybe they will try to play together. 

MADDOX:  

Huh, they are just watching each other. Their wishers are twitching really fast

RUBIX: 

From here to the end of the couch. On three. One 

XANDER: 

It almost looks like they are about to start a race

RUBIX: 

Two. 

MADDOX:  

Ha you are right. They look like they are in starting potions

RUBIX: 

Three! Squeak 

BROWNIE: 

Squeak. 

RUBIX: 

I can 't believe you are keeping up with me. 

BROWNIE: 

I'm just getting started. Oh no, does it feel like the ball is moving on its own? 

MADDOX:  

Wow they are really moving fast? 

XANDER: 

Do they look a little out of control? 

MADDOX:  

Xander I think the flour is slanted. They are losing control 

RUBIX: 

Squeak! I think I am going to flip. 

BROWNIE: 

I can't slow down. squeak!

MADDOX:  

Xander quick we need to catch them! 

(RUNNING FEET) 

XANDER: 

I got ya buddy. 

BROWNIE: 

Ooh! I feel dizzy. 

XANDER: 

I think that is enough excitement for tonight. 

MADDOX:  

OH Rubix are you ok? 

RUBIX: 

I think I am going to be sick. squeak 

MADDOX:  

Come on, into your cage. Next time I'll check to make sure the floor is not sloped before putting you in your ball. 

XANDER: 

So sorry Brownie Buddy.

BROWNIE: 

Squeak. It's ok. Shall we call it a tie Rubix? 

RUBIX: 

For now but I want a rematch when I can see straight again.
