SPEAKER_00Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of Inner Creek with Danny Kevin, a coast-to-coast discussion with Each Team Member Fox. I'm your co-host, Kevin Stenham, and with me as always is the Mei Kao of D2 Lacrosse, Danny Moran. Hey, Danny. Okay. I have no idea what that means. So I'm back in Hawaii for work. My mixture's not working, but that is actually Hero Goat in Hawaiian.
SPEAKER_03Hero goat in Hawaiian.
SPEAKER_00Now I don't know if I said it correctly or if it's in the right order or whatever. Say it again. Say it again. Me'e kao. There's not a lot of syllables, a lot of vowels in in the Hawaiian language.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it's actually just you and me, Danny. Me with a bad, bad mixer, you look sounding good. Um, but I figured it was just us today because we have to face the music of whether we were here or a goat on on most of our calls last week. And I have to tell you, I'm I mapped it out. We actually were pretty accurate. We were hitting about 70% correct.
SPEAKER_03That's not good enough. 70% is not good enough. Stenstrump.
SPEAKER_00It's just well, believe me, sometimes I feel I'm at 30%. So when I saw that, I was feeling pretty good.
SPEAKER_0370%'s good if you're a goalie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And what's funny about these finals, Danny, is that most went chalk and really went chalk big time. Not the semifinals, all of them, but the finals. Who you who you thought would probably, who we thought would probably win it, except for the sack final.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That was a good, that was a good game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they that was probably out of all the games, the most exciting game and and somewhat the closest. I mean, there was a four-goal difference in the end, but I think that was one that was not already figured out in the first quarter, like some of the others.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, I would agree with that for sure. Good game, though.
Week in Review
SPEAKER_00All right, but are you ready to get into them? All the different ones? All right, we'll touch base on some of the semiscore the scores, maybe some interesting notes there really quickly, but we'll basically talk and dig into each final. You ready to go?
SPEAKER_03It's dance time. It's the NCAA's, baby. Who's gonna go dancing?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we will get to that. I'll have to say this right up front, Danny. So uh I posted, I made a comment on uh on an Instagram post as us, as in the crease, because that's what I am on Instagram. I'm not uh Kevin Sentrum, I'm in the crease. And uh there were some interesting comments after what I said, and I think a lot of it has to do not so much of maybe who got in, but the seeding, especially in the South.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I saw some of those comments. You know, I'll tell you right now, you know, there's some some some of those are like burner accounts, guys just go on there and just shoot trap, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, but some interesting points, and we'll get to it when we get to that, because to me, it it's when you figure all that out, and we'll get to that after we get through the games, we'll hold on to that. But it does come out to be something that's based on head-to-head and other things. I'm not sure you could have done anything different in the in the seating.
SPEAKER_03No, I thought the I thought the uh I thought the committee got it right in in in the South and the North, actually.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I do too. All right, we'll but we'll I I digressed already off the bat. That's my fault. Let's start off. Why don't we start in the CACC, Danny? Okay. All right, so let's talk about the semifinals on Wednesday. Holy Family versus Wilmington. Wilmington pulls it out 10-9. We both said Wilmington would win. But here, the interesting thing about this is Holy Family led this game from the end of the first quarter until 8 47 left in the fourth. So they made this one really close.
SPEAKER_03It was a close game, all game.
SPEAKER_00Yes, all game. All game. Wildcats scored two more goals in the last 50 seconds to take a two-goal lead, and that's how they won. So they won 10-9. Chestnut Hill took care of Bridgeport.
SPEAKER_03Yep, beat up Bridgeport. Yep. We knew that was gonna happen.
SPEAKER_00We figured that out was gonna happen. And now, so now the finals. It's Wilmington against Chestnut Hill. And we both got this one right. Wilmington winning 9-5.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Wilmington won, but I don't know how good they're gonna do in the in the uh in the tournament, to be honest with you. I mean, they won they won their automatic call. It was a 9-5 game. It was a close game, more defense than offense. Nothing exciting about the game. It was kind of like a ho-hum type of game, if you if you watched any of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I watched it. I think um Wilmington was winning the 50-50 ground balls early. I think they controlled the possession time in the first quarter. It was 3-1 after one. I do think both D's are playing pretty well in the second, but at least that was the beginning of my note, and then Wilmington really scored four unanswered goals to go up 7-1, and that was about it. And then it was just it was just that way. It was 8-2 at half. I thought Wilmington had control of that game, and it was 8-8-4 after three. So Chestnut Hill held Wilmington to zero goals in the third, but they couldn't generate enough offense, and that was the same thing in the fourth, and it was just a goal apiece to make it 9-5.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, once they answered, once they kind of rattled off those four unanswered, it was you know, I felt Wilmington was in command at that point. You know what I mean? I just didn't think that they were gonna give it up, but you know, in the fourth, Chestnut Hill brought it to within three when Zach Wright buried one on a man-up. There was a couple of man-up goals for uh for Chestnut Hill. So and uh then Ian Betts buried a dagger on another man up for Wilmington, and that was it. And Wilmington's going to the dance, Kev. 9-5 win over Chestnut Hill. Wilmington ends up 12-4 and 8-0 in conference, and Chestnut Hill was 9-5 and 7-1 in conference. Not a bad year.
SPEAKER_00No, they both uh what Wilmington was able to do in conference, that's what you want to do. They they controlled it the whole time in the regular season and then in the in the tournament. Holy Family gave them a scare, that's for sure. But we'll see what Wilmington can do, and we'll talk about their matchup uh later. I think it's gonna be pretty tough. All right, let's move on. Rolling, rolling. Yeah, yeah. Let's move on to the ECC. Okay, the ECC. Yeah, so here's the interesting one. This is where we turn into a goat a little bit. First of all, Malloy against Roberts Wesleyan. We both picked Malloy and they won 11-7, exactly what you would would think, and they did it. But Frostburg beats Mercy twice during the season, and they went in overtime 9-8. Yeah. But I I didn't watch the game. I went back and looked. Frostburg scored first, but then Mercy led until Frostburg ties it with seven seconds left in the game. Mercy was up the whole game practically. Yeah. And then Frostburg ties, and then they win it in overtime, with only one second left in that first overtime.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yep. Yeah, close game. Mercy's okay this year. You know, they they're not what they were in the years past. And and and Frostburg kind of got better as the season went on. They started a little slow and got a little better as the season got on. So yeah, they they squoked that one out a 9-8 squeaker, and then they had to go face the Lions in the championship.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And that's where the difference really was there in the championship. Malloy pulls this out 20-8. Like, there was no question mark on who the top team in this conference was.
SPEAKER_03They were just really, really good against Frostburg State. Malloy, fast two goals, the first two goals in two minutes. Then Krug buried one, it was three-nothing. Then Taylor Kid with a wraparound from X made it four-nothing. Simic ten seconds later made it five-nothing. Then Rocka Hogan on a transition goal made it six-nothing in the first four minutes. Yeah. It was like a freaking tornado.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I was watching that, and they scored five in the first two and a half minutes, and then they put in that six, just like you said, in four minutes, and you're like. It was over. It was over.
SPEAKER_03It was over early. The Lions outscored them nine-nothing in the first. And face-offs were just Frostburg struggled at face-off. Yeah. Bad. I mean, Malloy had the ball all game. So the Lions just 14-3 overall. Another really good season for Coach Dunn and the boys up there in Rockville Center, Long Island. They go undefeated 7-0 in conference. And uh Frostburg winds up 11-7. They came on strong at the end of the year, like I said, Kev.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think some of the stats really point to, I mean, shots. 57 for Malloy, 19 for Frostburg. That will also tell you the defense that Malloy has. 19 shots. Yeah. Only 19 shots. Now they had 15 on goal. Yeah, 15. Which is great efficiency, but you need a few more than that.
SPEAKER_03You gotta pop. Yeah, yeah. 57 and 19 is a beat down.
SPEAKER_00Right. And when it's 9-0 after one, I I'm not sure who comes back from that.
SPEAKER_03It's over. Frostburg was just like, what are you gonna do? Malloy looks fast.
SPEAKER_00And look at ground balls. Oh, go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Malloy looked fast and strong and just really well. They were they were a much better team than Frostback.
SPEAKER_00I think the ground ball stat kind of shows it too. Now, some of it had to do with the face-off, yeah, but 51 for Malloy to 27 for Frostburg.
SPEAKER_03Mr. Kufan out there just wreaking havoc out there. They're good. Malloy's good, man. They're a good team. They're well put together. They they are very well balanced. Their defense is good, their goalies good, their pazienza. That's what I was saying, which, yeah. He's really, really good. I mean, Malloy, Malloy can go semi-deep, I think.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they have a shot. They have a shot. It was it was a beatdown that day for sure. All right, let's move to the G-Mac. G-Mac. In the semis, Northwood versus Davenport. Davenport pulls this out 16-15 in overtime. That was the one you thought Northwood. I I rolled the dice and said Davenport. And once again, these two teams were so close. There were eight ties in this game and six lead changes in this game, Danny.
SPEAKER_03Really balanced team. These two teams are so close together, it's unbelievable.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like they're almost like the same team. They play the same style of all. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I think that was the game was like in horrific weather, too. If I recall. It was raining. But it that was a it was a it was a really, really close game. And then the second semi, it was all Seton Hill over Walsh 20-5, which we both predicted right. Right. Now you're going into the final, it's Seaton Hill against Davenport. Seton Hill wins this 16 to 10.
SPEAKER_03I wonder, was this Davenport's first time to the GMAC championship?
SPEAKER_00Well, yes, it was because they had been in the GLVC before that. And I don't think they've been to that championship.
SPEAKER_03That's right. Okay. All right. I forgot about that. You're right.
SPEAKER_00So they they made it there, and they made it close in the first, in the first half first quarter. They kept it close, but after that, Seton Hill just scored four straight, and it was seven, three at half.
SPEAKER_03Now, the USILA has Seton Hill at three still. And I don't know, man. I don't know if they're a third team in the country. I'm being honest. I want to see them play somebody.
SPEAKER_00Well, here's yeah, I'll get to this once again uh when we get to their who they're playing against and everything else, is they haven't been tested in a while against a really tough team. Now, Davenport, it was interesting. Davenport's start out was 3-2 after one. It was a back and forth first quarter, but then after that, it was all Seaton Hill still. It was 12-7-3 after at half, 12-6 after three. I mean, Davenport made three in a row, one at the end of the first half, and then two more to get it to 12-8. But then, and then it was then Carter Green silences the silenced the streak to make it 13-8. Davenport tried to make it in the screen and made it 13-9 uh with a goal by Tommy Becker. But then Seton Hill scores two in a row. It's 15-9, and it's and and then they both traded goals. So it was really all Seton Hill after that first quarter.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and I got news for you. They're they're Seton Hill, the Griffiths, they struggle at face-off. They struggle. You know, and they they caused 12 cause turnovers in that game. They lost the face-off battle by a lot. They got beat beat down on the face-offs. Yeah, I had 19 for David Davenport and 11 for Seton Hill that they, yeah, but Tucker Zostant was 5 for 12 at the dot, and Adrick Burley was 6 for 17 at the dot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Not a good day. But they caused so many turnovers and got the ball back, and then with the ground ball war, you know, I mean, they won the ground ball war.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I think, you know, the difference in that was the cause turnovers. They caused 12 turnovers. So I think if it wasn't for Seton Hill's Griff, uh the Griff's turnover ratio, it might have been a closer game. So I'm really, I'm really concerned about the Seton Hill Griffiths. I really don't think that they've played anybody in a long time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I and they struggle at the dot against Davenport. You know, I don't know. I think they're gonna struggle in in the tournament. Because in the tournament, you gotta win face-offs, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the only team who hasn't had to do that was two years ago in Adelphi. Yeah, well. And this year they don't have to worry about that. They had Dylan Renner in goal, you know. Yeah, yeah, and they had other pieces too. Um, that was the the missing piece.
SPEAKER_03Uh so Dexter Hannigan had a good game. He had three goals and assists. Carter Lee had four goals, and our man Nate Herbster again, uh, three goals. Carter Green, like you said, two goals and three assists. Righty Grudy. All these guys are really good contributors, and they all they all share the rock. They're a good team, Griffiths, but I think they're gonna struggle a little bit because of what's going on on the Faceoffs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're their first matchup is an interesting one. We'll get to that when we get to it. I think that's gonna be a really fun game to watch, actually. All right, let's move on to the NE10. Let's go to the semis. The granddaddy of them all. There we go. Assumption versus a Delphi. A Delphi wins us easily, 21-4. We were heroes on that one, but we were GOATs on the next one. Pace versus St. Anselm. Pace pulls us out 8-7.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And you know, St. Ace was missing Turpin and Claflin, too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, but but Pace, yeah, Pace played a great game. The thing that I did not know until after the game, this is the first time in 23 years that Pace was going to the finals of the N-10.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I'm happy for Coach Mariano. But, you know, you got to call Spade a spade because they didn't have two of their big boys. Ben Turpin's been lighting shit up, Kev.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I I knew they didn't have Claflin. I didn't I did not know they did not have Clay.
SPEAKER_03And they did not have Claflin in the game. So two of their offensive stars were not playing. I think that says a lot.
SPEAKER_00You know So then let's go to the final. Adelphi and Pace. Adelphi wins this 17-4. And this is kind of the same sort of game as Malia. Shocking?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Were you shocked by that score? Well, I know what I'm saying. The first time that I when a Delphi came right out and and made a goal right off the first face-off, I'm like, wow, that's a statement. But I didn't expect it to keep rolling like that and it'd be 10-1 after one.
SPEAKER_03They dog walked the pace setters. They dog walked the setters. I was in shock at how Adelphi looked in that game. Oh, me too. Against a really good pace team that just gave them a game two weeks ago.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03And like I like I said in that podcast, if Pace just cleaned a few things up in the fourth quarter, they win that game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But Delphi was like, not today, boys. Not today.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that we talked about statement wins, Tampa against Florida Tech in their final, right? And what they did. This in a lot of ways was the same way, in my opinion. Pace scored one goal per quarter. Yeah, I know. I mean we we would never have predicted that.
SPEAKER_03I tell you, I was in shock.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because again, two weeks ago was a really good tight game. But you know what? Adelphi, I watched a lot of Adelphi games this year, Kev. A lot of them. That was their best game from beginning to end, from top to bottom. There's no holes, there's no weaknesses, there's no bad spots, there's no wrinkles in the in the laundry. They are a well-oiled machine, and they looked phenomenal against Pace the other day.
SPEAKER_00I totally agree. I could not say anything different. I mean, you could add other words, but like, you know, dominant. You and I kind of text a little bit back and forth on this during this game. But you're exactly right. This was a textbook game for them. There was, like you said, no weakness. And when you saw the one moment, ball movement, ball movement, ball movement by them, and even getting their polls in it. You got Bauer and Linkletter on the offensive side, passing the ball and then finally giving it to a short stick when they score.
SPEAKER_03And then you got these two guys that have been kind of playing a little bit later uh lately. Tito Woodland. Yeah. He's got a goal. I mean, he they've got a couple of other guys coming in and they're contributing now because it's like you try to lock down McDermott, or you try to lock down Kyle Lewis, or you try to lock down Danell and no one's locking down that kid. He's a real good quarterback back there, man.
SPEAKER_00And Dunellin's Well, you get him and Kyle Lewis that can't really good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know what? I don't think Kyle Lewis is having the best year. I think he's having an okay year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but he's still a good another uh option for quarterback, the way I look at it, from up top, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03He was scoreless the other day.
SPEAKER_00The the other thing is like short stick D Mini for them. With guys like Herzog. I mean, they they just there there isn't a weakness. And then you add in we talked about this, we just said this a little bit ago, about two years ago. They won the championship with only winning about 30% of the face-offs, and now you got a guy like Will Greaves.
SPEAKER_03Who's winning like 68% like where where there's good luck against the Delphi, whoever's got a Delphi in the and just good luck. I don't see anybody beating them. No.
SPEAKER_00I see them walking, I I see them winning North regionally going to the final.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the North's kind of like a little weak, if you ask me.
SPEAKER_00So I I I think I I I just think if the if they b if they play like that every game in in the NCAA, it's it's over, yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, I know. They're right now the white one like that game was said to I said that's the best team in division two right now. Oh yeah. Top to bottom. No one's played like that, no one's been like that. I've watched a lot of games this year, Kev, as you did too. And I've watched a lot of Adelphi because they intrigued me. I don't know why. Just a team that intrigues me. And I I like watching them play. They're so well coached and such a high IQ team. You're kind of waiting for them to slip up a little bit. Typical American, right? You build a team up and then you want them to see them fall. But you want to see if they can keep that up. You know what I mean? And and and they sure, they sure showed the country the other day that they are ready. And base is a good team, too, man.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They've got they're solid on all sides as well.

SPEAKER_00And that's what it is. Like you said the word shocking, and I did not have that word, and I should have had that word. That is exactly what it is. I did not expect that.
SPEAKER_03It was like 4-0. I was like, oh boy, okay. And then I was like, wow, five-nothing. Then I'm like, oh, she's six-nothing. I was like, oh boy.
SPEAKER_00I know.
SPEAKER_03And then, you know, Pace was just having trouble, you know, just finding open looks. I mean, the defense was so good. It was great, you know.
SPEAKER_00It was interesting. It was 13-2 at half. Pace came out and scored a goal in the first minute in the third. I'm like, okay, not that they're going to be able to come back all the way. I just didn't see that happening. But can they make it? No, that was the only goal they scored in the third. Was that first one in the first minute?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.

SPEAKER_00Just yeah. Amazing, totally complete game. All right. Last one to go over, the last final that happened that was supposed to be on Saturday, but moved to Sunday because of torrential downpours in North Carolina on Saturday, and that was in the SAC. In the semis, Anderson versus Wingate. Wingate wins that one 18-13. I called it a pick'em. You called it Wingate. I thought Wingate controlled most of that game, and they had a pretty it was it seemed to be their game the whole time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they had a good game plan. They did well at the dot, and uh quad played good in goal, and and the dogs looked good in that game. You know, anderson's a good team, too, man. Yeah, they are. Then they'll see the ones. But they started Devonport again. And he struggled.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's two games in a row that Coach Mitchell has started Devonport in goal. I don't get it, man. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, maybe I don't know.
SPEAKER_03There might be something there. I have no idea.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. In the second one, Lenore Ryan versus Newberry. Newberry pulls this out 16-15.
SPEAKER_03It was a great game, man.
SPEAKER_00That was a great game. I did not watch that live because it was the same time as Anderson. I had to go, but I had to go back and watch it because I was watching the scores, right? I had the scores on Inside Lacrosse going as I'm watching the other game. And I'm and I'm watching them, watching them, and the whole time, for most of the game, Lenore Ryan was up by like three goals.
SPEAKER_03They were up, they were up, they were up four goals at one point. Then it was and then with like four minutes left, they were still up two.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They held the lead until two minutes to play, and then Newbury scored four goals in four minutes to win. Yeah. It was a great job by then. They would it was.
SPEAKER_03They were scooping up ground balls too, man. They were like beating LR. They were more aggressive than LR. They went after it. They really did. They wanted it more.
SPEAKER_00I I was impressed with that in the sense of when a team like LR has that lead for so long, I I would think after a while, it it just starts to weigh on you, right? And they they stuck to it and they turned it around. And once they got on fire, it was all them. The last four minutes was all Newberry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Newberry's a good team. They're they're feisty, they're fast, they're aggressive, they're aggressive on D. They got a good, really good keeper in McMullen. Yes. Um, you know, it's it's their defense is okay. Okay. They're not great, the defense. They're okay. But their offense, they get out in transition, they get out fast. Well, and let's move to they got them Canadians in there, man. They attack, and those kids are good, man. Those are those kids are good. Liam Bollins and those boys.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Let's go to the final, wingate against Newberry. Once again, I said a pick'em game, but if it was, if I knew it was going to be Wingate, Newberry in the final, I probably would have picked Wingate to win and beat Newberry. They beat him by four last time. But I said early on, and we talked about this since the conference preview, that at the top, and we talked about it in these finals, right? In the in this championship tournament, in the semifinals, it was going to be a bloodbath. And it was going to be a bloodbath all the way through. Newberry is the one that came out on top 15-11 in this final. And I will tell you that I really felt Newberry came out right off the top, right at the beginning, very aggressive. Almost, I almost felt like they were ready, more ready or ready at the at the whistle and came out. And Wingate had to get up to on the on the treadmill. They had to get up to speed a little bit because it was like 4-0 Newberry to begin with. And not that Wingate didn't come back and look good, but that four-goal buffer was all they needed.
SPEAKER_03Well, the a big difference in this game, if you ask me, was McMullen and goal.
SPEAKER_01I agree.
SPEAKER_03The kid was ridiculous because Wingate outshot him. They outshot on gold. They uh had a lot less turnovers, they did better in the in uh in face-offs. Like Wingate's a good team, man. Like, they got their looks, they got their shots off. They shot 47 to 25. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I will tell you that. What's funny? So, Danny, I wrote notes. I'll tell you, you're exactly right. I wrote several notes of the doorstep saves that McMullen had. And it wasn't just doorstep saves. And he had back-to-back saves. Not bang bang all the time, but you know, rebound, they get it again, he would save it again. And you forget when that's happening, I'll start tallying up all the shots and the shots on goal. So when I went to the stats and I saw that, like you just said, Wingate had 47 to Newberry's 25, shots on goal, wingate 27 to Newberry's 19. All of a sudden, that that just kind of flips my mind a little bit, and you go back to how good McMullen was playing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I I really believe he was the difference in the game. He really played outstanding. I thought he was really good. He made a lot of really good stops. Wingate is a good team, Kevin. They are really good on offense. They have multiple guys that can score. I mean, it's just amazing what they can do. And McMullen had a day. He had a day. And you know what? It happens, Kev. You run into a hot goalie one day. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I will say, I'll add to that though. And we said this before. I think like the top four teams in the sack are really, really strong. I think if you look at ground balls, Newberry had 44 to Wingate's 27, and Wingate won the face-off 16 to 13. That was a good battle in there. Great battle at their face-off. They won the middle of the field a lot a little bit more than.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they did. They won the ground balls in the middle of the field. They definitely won the ground ball war. But again, I think the whole difference was McMullen because Wingate got their shots. They got their looks. They were able to get the ball inside to Clark. I'll tell you what, I thought Kyle Spence had his probably his worst game as a bulldog. He was one goal and one assist, a couple, maybe four or five turnovers, got the ball checked out of his stick a couple of times. Not his best day. And you know what? You need your best players to kind of step up on those big games. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then you see the on the other side with Newberry guys like Liam Vollins, you already said, and Scott Williams. They played really well. I I my hat's off to the Newberry and how they played that game, too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Matt Matt Bird had four. Mason Carrafello had three. Liam Vollins, really good player, man, three and two. Scott Williams had three and one. Ian Jackson added two. Houston Horton at the dot, 11-25. Let me tell you something. I said to myself, boy, oh boy, those two face-off guys are going to need ice. They are going to need oxygen. They're going to need a medic after that game. These two really went at it. It was probably one of the best face-off matches I've seen all year. Just head-to-head face. These kids were going at it, man. They were it was very physical, the game.
SPEAKER_00It was very fast and it was very physical and very fast.
SPEAKER_03It was one of the better, more exciting games, I think, out of all the conferences.

SPEAKER_00And both teams deserved to make it into the NCAAs. I think Newberry even beating LR, if they had lost to Wingate, should have been in too.
SPEAKER_03Yes. I don't know. It depended, you know, if they if they would have lost to Wingate, they may have gotten in or maybe not. It might have gone to Meryville. Because they had five losses.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You know, Maryville, so we'll get we can get to, yeah. Maryville was probably the one on the outside after Newberry won that. Yeah. I just felt that Newberry. It's interesting because I went back to that. I went back to their record after seeing those notes. And like Newberry lost to Lewis, lost to Anderson in the regular season, and lost to Wingate. And they turned around and beat Wingate. Now they beat LR twice, which is really phenomenal. Phenomenal. And they had some money, you know, so it's those head-to-heads that make it really kind of strange. Now you look at Meryville, right? Merryville beat Lewis in the regular season, but lost to him in the championship. Fairly handily, they lost, right? Right. Lewis took care of that game. Once again, it was home for Lewis. So it really becomes kind of like uh it was just interesting how it happened. Now, I I I guess maybe I don't maybe I'm I I have a little bit of recency bias when I watched a game like Newberry playing LR and then Newberry winny, but even if Newberry didn't win and they made a close up wing gate, I think they would have but you know I've gotten it wrong before on the on the bracket. So you want you want to go into the bracket now and where hold on, I want to tell you a story.

Now, interestingly, eight teams are in the north versus ten teams in the south, and that's because of the NCA in the end, other than like last year, because they're they had the same amount of automatic qualifiers with RMAC and Peach Belt. Peach Belt having one. They both had five. Now there's six in the south and four in the north. So they gave, you know, they gave each four at large. At large. Thank you for that. Yeah. So that's how it works eight to ten. So in the north, a Delphi is a number one seed playing number eight Wilmington on Sunday, the May 10th.

Now, there's both Carter Wilcox and Jack Kern for now for Pace. Pace had Carter Wilcox in for the Adelphi game. I don't know if something's going on with Jack Kern or sometimes they pulled Kern.

SPEAKER_00Um, and then you got guys like Nate Herbster, Carter Green against like Will Donowski and Lamore. There's there's both teams have really good players on all sides of the field. Pace, like we talked about, Seton Hill's not tested yet. Has not been tested in a while. Pace has been tested, but my question is, are they going to be fresh?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think they'll be fine. Pace, you know, I think they've been playing really good all year. I mean, except for the one game against the Delphi in the championship. I mean, I mean, it's a Delphi. There's that's Oh, yeah, yeah. There's Division I players all over that. Yeah. They're all in black and gold. They're all like Division I players. So you know what? I think Pace is definitely a lot more seasoned than Seton Hill at this point of the season. Again, Seton Hill hasn't played anybody in a while.

SPEAKER_03And they're going to face a team that's gone against St. A's and Pace in the last two weeks. In the last week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You know, so I don't know. What do you who do you like in that game?
SPEAKER_00I think this one's going to be close. Now, I've said that before and been totally wrong, so who knows? I think I've got to go with Pace. Yeah. Also, just because of them having, like you just said, they've been through more of a gauntlet than Seton Hill is. And as long as they are they're healthy enough, I think.
SPEAKER_03The more battle tested, the more hardened. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. All right. Next one. Number two, St. Anselm against number seven, St. Michael's.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, I agree. Good to see St. Michael's get in for them. They had a good season, but I don't see them matching up. I think St. A's is just too strong.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're not on the same level. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, St. Michael. You did have a good year. You're very lucky that you're in there, to be honest with you. And uh just good luck against St. A's because they're they're a very good team.
SPEAKER_00Now, you have to give them credit too, though, because they've played a lot of teams in the N-10 closer than I would have expected. They had a good year. And it's kind of nice. Assumption's in the next game. Can you imagine if they put Assumption against St. Mike's again third game? That would be just a barn burner for the third game because both of those games went to overtime.
SPEAKER_03It would be an amazing upset on both sides of that coin there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know, I I liked Assumption all year. You know, they're in the what? They're in the top 20. They've been in the top 20 for a while now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and they're playing Malloy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Malloy number three against Assumption number six.
SPEAKER_03Braden Pazenza.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. That that's what I said. Pat Brandon Panzienza, I say, is I think is a huge difference in that game. They both have got great players on offense with like Taylor and Hammond for Malloy and Stanton and Lowenberg for Assumption. Goalies are pretty even, I think. They're both very solid in that with Shane Corcoran and Basile for Malloy. I think that's and I think I know more of the names of some of the defenders, like we've Tom Skofa and others on the Malloy side, but Assumption is pretty solid. And McCabe, yeah, exactly. I think I think it's at at the I'd give a little bit of a nod to the defense on Malloy and at face-off.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I like Malloy. I just think they're they're they're very another balanced team, really good coach uh on offense and their defense coordinators, a very good coach. Yeah they're just they're tough. I think they're gonna go deep, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER_00I think they can. So that's those are on Sunday. Interestingly, in in that bracket in the North region, five teams from the NE10. I think we discussed this a couple weeks ago. Like, who did we think would come in? And I think that kind of shows that the the strength right now in the other region, in the other conferences this year, weren't as strong like you looked like last year. Like Georgian Court didn't have a good season this past year. Chestnut Hill was good, but it wasn't great to be into that to be getting at large. Same thing with ECC. I mean, teams like Mercy and Frostburg, they were in that in that mix to be looked at. But when you look at it in the end and how it played out, it it just didn't work.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they didn't have the body of work, they didn't have the wins and the strength of schedule and whatnot. So I tell you, man, Malloy's got a good chance of going to the final four.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think you're right. I you know, I it'll be really interesting to see the matchup. I I think they have a very good shot. All right, let's move to the south region, Danny. This is where both number one and number two wait for a play in. So number eight and number nine, Concordia University number eight against number nine Flagler play tomorrow, Wednesday, the sixth.
SPEAKER_03This is an intriguing matchup to me. Yes.
SPEAKER_00They end up whoever wins this, I'll let you finish in a second. Whoever wins this plays against Tampa, who's never won, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_03I'm liking CUI. I don't know why. I keep, you know, I'm like, I don't know. Something tells me that, you know, they're they're ready to take that step.
SPEAKER_00This is really interesting. Coach Foss, you're right. He d has done this the first year, the first season they ran, you saw them get better and better throughout the season. Last year, they were pretty solid all the way through. You know, they beat Westminster twice last year. And they almost beat Colorado Mesa in the final. I think that went to overtime. This year, they didn't start off great. And then they got better and better. We talked about this last week. They continue to rise. Flagler has been really good, not as good as what we saw last year. They lost to Colorado Mesa in that kind of that two-team, two conference play-in for the automatic qualifier. Flagler has to fly out there.

SPEAKER_00I think this is gonna be a barn burner of a game.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, this is an intriguing game. An intriguing game to me. I think it's gonna be a close game. I like Concordia at home.

Kind of reminded me of like that Wingate Bulldog team from last year that was the fifth seed and just avenged all those losses and just outplayed teams, and that's what Newberry looks like to me right now. SPEAKER_00Yeah. I went back and forth on this one. Back and forth. I totally agree with you there. I think your analogy of Newberry look being like Wingate last year when they were the fifth seed. Couldn't they basically played away the whole time and they won it all in a lot of close games, some overtime. Newberry, I think you're right, they're on a mission. I just I can't bet against Lewis at home.

SPEAKER_00And this was the whole this is the whole banter back and forth on those comments. Like people are like, well, what about Lewis? Lewis, you know, and you add in Florida Tech there, and you start adding Florida Tech lost in North Greenville, but they they played really well. Because I said, like, well, maybe Newberry could have been the three seed over Florida Tech, but that's like, yeah, but they lost to Lewis. You get all those head-to-head matchups, and you look at who what where teams lost and and lost some of their now you got to go to strength of schedule at that point.
SPEAKER_03Yes, yeah, you know, and that's the one that's gonna be. You got four, five teams, six, five or six teams in the sack in the top 12, Kev. With Kataba, Newberry, Anderson, Wingate, and LR. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00And you talk about those teams when iron sharpens iron, and we talked about them not, you know, at any time, one of any team can win, which I still believe between those four teams, add Cataba in there at the end of this year and will be there next year.

I think I think Coach Paradine's a great coach. I think their offense, you know, Donnie Powell and Morgan Maddish. I think their defense is stout now. And they got Matt Mancini at the dot. And that kid is he's just, you know, he's he's really, really good, Kev. He's hard to he's hard to stop. LR is going to get their possessions.

If their defense is dialed in, offense is better than Florida Tech's offense.

SPEAKER_03Okay. Well, they better be. I mean, LR's a really good team. Paradigm's a good coach, and he makes great adjustments. So it comes down to possessions in a game like this. You know, you want the ball, man. You know, you want to keep I'd rather have the ball and play against a good defense than give up the ball and worry about defense. You understand? Yeah, yeah. You know, and I think LR is the type, and with Coach Paradine, it's the type of coach that makes really good adjustments. And I just think, like you said, and you hit the nail on the head, man. They've been there, done that. These kids have been there.

SPEAKER_03You know, and they've been in big games. So uh, will the bright lights be too bright for Florida Tech?
SPEAKER_00I I think the experience just tips the scales for me.

That's not a takeaway from the North, but I just I don't think this year, if if you look at look at past years, I think they had a stronger North had had a a good resume and you could match up a little bit better.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I agree, you know, and they had Lemoyne in the in years past and you know, kind of made in a mercy aggressive.
SPEAKER_00And then you had and look look at we talked about this with uh Seaton Hill when you had Mercyhurst in the in the mix, whether or not Mercyhurst made it or Seton Hill made it, one of those two is usually making it. That's right. Yeah, and so it just it's a little more interesting. I I really want to see in the next few years other teams in the North start to bump up their level. I'm hoping that these AQ start to do that. So other teams in the CACC or the ECC, other than now we've flipped in the ECC, Malloy, does Mercy come back? Does Frostburg keep on improving? Those are the things I'd like to see them where you have a bunch of teams in each conference that are really tough. You look at Sunshine State, right? There were four that we kept on talking about this year below Tampa that you didn't know what was going to happen. Right. Anytime you got the same sort of thing with pace and it and now assumption, even set through a little bit of St. Mike's, but Assumption, St. A's, in the other conferences, not as much, right? Yeah, yeah. In the North.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there's like one or two teams in each conference, and other all the other teams are mediocre. You know. So and so hopefully. Yeah, I just I'm sorry, but I just think the north is thinning out. It just it needs something. Again, like I look at the north and the south, like that south region, holy mackerel, man. You know, that's a that's a tough, yeah, that's a tough way out. I mean, yeah. Tampa obviously number one's got the easy road, but still, it's not gonna be easy for them. Tampa's not, you know, the phenomenon most phenomenal team I've ever seen before. I've seen better Tampa teams. And uh I think I think that those coaches would even say that. You know, we've had better teams here, and you know, they're doing the city.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I think the North would say the same thing in in some years past across. So we'll see. But I I agree with you in the South right now. If you look at who's in the in the bracket of NCAAs, it's it's a gauntlet for the most part.
SPEAKER_03Even the SAC tournament, just the South Atlantic Conference, just that tournament alone. Yeah, you have four, you have five teams in the top ten. Yeah, yeah, you know, and each one can beat every each other, and they all have, you know, it's kind of crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but now it's yeah, it's a great conference.
SPEAKER_03It really is. I think personally, I think it's the best conference. Just you know, just the top five teams are just really, really good.
SPEAKER_00I I would say this year, I would agree with that. This year, definitely. We've had this debate uh a couple years in a row. What's better NE10 or the SAC, Sunshine State. It'd be interesting to see what Sunshine State is close as far as the top few teams playing, but if you look down the the the top five or six teams in each conference, I think in the the sack wins out if you match up the for the top five teams in in each conference, right? Against others. It it just does.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I agree. Sunshine State's tough too. They, you know, the strength of schedule over the year, you know, they all beat each other up, and the strength of schedule is pretty good.
SPEAKER_00I mean that's another one where iron sharpens iron when they play each other like that. Yeah, the flaggler in there all the time, although most teams play him anyway out of conference.

SPEAKER_03And so they're gonna make a difference in that conference, too. You know, they're they're gonna push teams around, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, I agree. So it's gonna be a great dance, especially in the South. Things kick off tomorrow night, Wednesday night for these play-in teams.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And uh it's it's here. It's awesome. It's like the best time. It is the best time to watch. Unfortunately, they're always at the same time. Yeah, I know. So I'm we're you and I are gonna be playing catch up a lot to figure it out, and maybe we just have to split up some games, and uh I'll I'll have to I'll owe my wife big time if I get to watch some of these games.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm gonna be at graduation, so I'm not gonna be able to see really any.

SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'll be down there, so I'm not gonna be able to really see any games. I'll have to watch them on replay. And uh well, I'll be back down there this weekend to watch my son graduate and walk with his class. I'm very proud of him and looking forward to that. Can't believe it's come to that already.

We did this last year, Danny, and it really goes out to all the teams whose season has now ended. I just want to thank them for the show. Thank them for balling out, thank them for playing the D2. It has been great watching a lot of these teams. We're down to the last few in the NCAA bracket, but I think all the Division II teams need a shout out.
