Ryan:

Hello everybody, welcome to the Cologne Podcast.

Myke:

I'm Mike and I'm Ryan and we're two best friends smelling kisses, rain, giving you an uneducated opinion.

Ryan:

That's right, kisses rain.

Myke:

Some stage dry, while others feel the pain, kisses, rain.

Ryan:

Reneer kisses rain. Today's episode, we're two best friends going on a fragrance journey, Giving you our uneducated opinion on it?

Myke:

Yes, we are. Hey, I've got a Fragrantica review, ryan, this is how I do things.

Ryan:

Oh yeah, that's right. What he does is he grabs a review from Fragrantica. That's usually pretty bad about the fragrance before we smell it.

Myke:

Yeah, this one's from Perfume Kick Okay, and we usually pick a negative one, but I made sure to pick just this really sweet hearted person Talking about this fragrance in a way that's totally fair to the fragrance house and the perfumer. Okay, that made it pointless release. When it comes to any innovation in the industry, from what I've tried from this house only the one Azur blue bottle stood out as unique. The rest all clone material. This one is Dior's Fev Golan Tonka crossover with very off development pulling quite feminine for the first three to four hours. Quite sad to see this lack of innovation in the range priced half the current retail. It would be a maybe for me or as a gift for my wife, but as current retail it's no bueno.

Ryan:

Yeah, that was very fair and balanced. Yeah Well, that's going to be today's episode. But before we get into all of that, one thing I need to tell you guys is that on our Patreon, we're fitting to be given away kisses raid. No, we're fitting to be given away serene by the fragrance house Somewhere Parfums. The bottle was sent to us by Dan, who is the creator of that brand, correct, yeah?

Myke:

the president.

Ryan:

The emperor, the emperor of, we got a full juicy bottle and if you're a patron you're subscribed to our friends with benefits tier you will have a chance to win this bottle. We will be sending it out later this week and also we put up new bonus episodes weekly there, so check it out.

Myke:

That's right, we're committing. You're hearing it here. If you love this episode that goes out every week on Monday, if you're a friends with benefit, by Friday you'll have a second episode every single week, every single can week Baby.

Ryan:

Now let's get into our one night stand review of that killer ass fragrance by YSL and that's the newest one that everybody's talking about and that fingerprint magnet of a fucking bottle. I'm feeling myself Hit the music. Todd, yeah, One night stand review.

Myke:

Well, ryan, after cracking open a cold one and spending the night with Austin Butler, yeah yeah, and not getting COVID like I did, hopefully. What do you think of myself by YSL?

Ryan:

Yeah, that one is not good.

Myke:

You know what I just realized? What's that? The reason why they didn't put the E in there is because it's MYSLF.

Ryan:

Oh, the YSL in between the M and the F. Yeah, motherfucker. So mother Ease.

Myke:

St Laurent fucker.

Ryan:

You got it, baby. Wow, what genius marketing.

Myke:

Does Samuel L Jackson work on this fragrance? Good job, Sam.

Ryan:

Why is there no motherfucking thing in my?

Myke:

say YSL, say YSL one.

Ryan:

Let me actually nod the hat over to another fragrance podcast. Yes, they exist, people. Okay, fragrance weirdo. Slash Dan, who also is the emperor of some of the problems yeah.

Ryan:

Emperor Dan. He has a podcast called Leodorance Leodorance. Leodorance always say it wrong, but I was just listening to his latest episode. He had back pain and shit. I wrote him about that. By the way, I'm having back pain. Yeah, you were just telling me that you like got up weird and fucked your back up. That was it. Oh, okay, well, between you and Dan, you are both on narcotics, trying to get better, and but he was actually talking about myself in that and he loves the bottle, but he hates the fragrance. He thinks the fragrance is pissed. You know what I have to agree the fragrance is garbage. It's not that great, it is just mad. It's so mad that it's garbage.

Myke:

You know what? It's not bad, it's just not spectacularly unique.

Ryan:

Too safe, man, too fucking safe. But I do have to disagree with you, dan. How do you like that?

Myke:

bottle. Let me ask you a question. Then you said it's too safe. Do you think there's no reason, there's no scenario that you would need a fragrance as safe as Mother YSL fucking myself?

Ryan:

It's just too safe, it's too generic. You might as well just be buying fucking just old spice body spray or something.

Myke:

It's way better than that man. It's not, it's I you think there's so hundred and fifty bucks.

Ryan:

Answer the question.

Myke:

Damn, it's not good. No, no, no. Answer the question. Do you think there's any scenario that you would need a fragrance, nice, safe.

Ryan:

There's a yes to that, but it's not that one. It's definitely not that one. What is it Fuck safe? That's like not overpowering as much as we've talked shit about it and lifted it up in the future after we've talked shit about it. Something like original Dior Sauvage, something, I would say even something like Chanel, blue Day Chanel. I feel like those are. They're actually really good, but they could also be very safe and friendly where they're not like crazy over the top. I'm going to interrupt.

Myke:

Ryan here Brought us Luna Rosa Carbon. That's another hell yeah, great, wear it all the time, love it. I mean, I love that thing but it's.

Ryan:

It's more than safe, though it smells really good, but it is safe as in. Like you know, you're not going to like overwhelm people with it. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, it's.

Myke:

God, that is a good one. That's another one we you know. In that episode I think we were talking about designer fragrances and going like there's a place for it, and I feel like that one will always be in my collection.

Ryan:

Absolutely. It's great, smells incredible and safe. But I will say myself is just so bland, so timid, it's like I don't even know man, I don't even fucking know. It's like what is the point?

Myke:

I guarantee you that if you like smelling good and you like smelly good fragrances, but you're not a snob like Ryan or myself if you went out and smelled myself, you probably like it. It smells good.

Ryan:

Just think if somebody actually gave a damn to go man, you smell pretty good. What is that? It had the golden opportunity to give people that moment where they can go myself, right, oh yeah. So why wouldn't you, honey? Yeah, why would you make this thing really good Like I don't know man? Now, nobody's going to be saying that, and if they do, they're like man, what are you wearing?

Myke:

And I'm going to say it's Motherfather.

Ryan:

YSL. It's a skip. It's still a skip for me. Yes, it's even more of a skip now for me.

Myke:

If you're super horny for it, I'd say go to a discounter and get YEDP Along the same lines in the same vein and right now probably have the price.

Ryan:

Yeah, done better. A little bit louder too, okay. Well, let's get into Kisses Read. Yeah, that was that one. We're out of here. Let's go to the next one. That's about how we feel about it right?

Myke:

Yeah, let's just fuck off on this podcast.

Ryan:

No, I don't want to fuck off.

Myke:

Let's just lose the energy, Ryan, because we're trying to make a point that designer fragrances. That's for the losers out there. We're sophisticated, so we're going to be wearing Kisses Rain.

Ryan:

Man, I can get Spice Bomb for fucking $59 and it blows the fucking doors off of myself. Did you end up buying that? I sure did. $59 for basically 100 ml, or at least 90, because of their dumbass. Original Spice Bomb, just original. It's so amazing, it is pretty good. Okay, that is why I sells myself. I will make one prediction though, before we go into this Kisses Rain Okay, I am predicting that why I sell myself will definitely not stay around too long. You think it'll be discontinued pretty quick. I don't want to say quick, but I mean I mean a year or two. Yeah, I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal. If it's still out there, it's because they're just trying to get rid of all the stuff they were there. They use overstock bottles.

Myke:

Yeah, yeah, it's possible. Well, we've tried to get out of this segment for you know nine different ways. Just go ahead and move on out.

Ryan:

All right, here we go. Now we're going to smell our scent of the day. We've both been looking forward to this. Kisses Rain, kisses Rain. Uda Parfum by Renear.

Myke:

You go first Mike. No, no, no, no, no. You go first Ryan, because I actually met Renear.

Ryan:

Oh you've met the actual company.

Myke:

I met the guy oh his name hey, use your own tester strip. Oh what?

Ryan:

Oh, I'm sorry my bad, don't touch my shit. Oh yeah, so when you were in Italy, milan, you, so the name is actually Renear. Whoever owns this? Renear Mendes.

Myke:

And what'd you think of the person? One of the nicest dudes I met there, really. Yeah, almost as nice as Chris from Fragmental.

Ryan:

Oh, okay, here we go.

Myke:

In the air, spicy sweet man. The car stock smells great. It almost has like this cinnamon clove vibe to it.

Ryan:

It's soft at the same time, but kind of spicy. Yeah, almost like a kiss.

Myke:

Soft spicy.

Ryan:

Man, the love you just made to that microphone was pretty impressive.

Myke:

Look, I'm no half-hearted kisser, ryan. Oh my God, I put both lips into it. Baby, Arguably my best feature these beautiful, succulent lips.

Ryan:

Mine's definitely not. I'm having little bird lips. You got those little bird lips, yeah, yeah.

Myke:

I look at them and I'm like I'll never kiss those.

Ryan:

God damn, I smell those fucking fragrance Can we do that, man.

Myke:

Here's the interesting part about those fragrance the skin and the card are worlds apart, both amazing, yeah, I agree, but worlds apart, I love this fragrance.

Ryan:

It's kind of a God. I know I'm going to sound weird when I say it, but it's kind of vintage kind of smell to me.

Myke:

Yeah, and masculine as well, though.

Ryan:

Yeah it's soft, sweet, spicy, but it is masculine.

Myke:

And at the same time, that soft sweetness of it does it's like maybe perfectly unisex. If you lean more feminine, then this would be a cooler weather fragrance for sure, though, why do I think like wicker furniture or something when I'm smelling this? You've said that a few times now. You're like pure one exports all the time or whatever. Why am I in the zone of like wicker furniture? It's that spiciness. You're thinking like popery and I don't know what it is.

Ryan:

It smells good, though, god. I don't know if I like the skin or the cardstock.

Myke:

Yeah, the skin smells like edible in a way I don't know. It smells like have you ever had? Like when they saute?

Ryan:

up pears? No, I haven't, but that sounds delicious already, yeah.

Myke:

They saute up pears with like cinnamon and sugar and butter. Okay, you can get them at cracker. Barrel actually Kind of sounds amazing. It kind of smells like that on my skin. They make that at cracker barrel.

Ryan:

They sure as hell do. Damn that might be a trip. Got me percolating yeah that's good. It's a good ass smell. I don't see why that person was kind of hating on it.

Myke:

That's the internet.

Ryan:

I don't want to say it's pointless People love to hate on the internet. I will have one caveat with this, though. Okay, I do feel like I've smelled this a couple different times. If I'm going to do that to, this house. Really, yeah. Okay, I've smelled this a couple times in the niche market Something similar, maybe not one to one I was about to say there are a few fragrances that are probably similar.

Myke:

I don't know that I've smelled this exact.

Ryan:

DNA. I haven't smelled this exact DNA but it does remind me of a few, but it does smell good. I'm not liking that it's edible kind of feeling on the hand, but I am liking the card stock.

Myke:

We've been to the scent room multiple times, I've held this bottle tempted to buy it, yeah, but you know what?

Ryan:

You may not be holding this bottle anymore. Why is that? From my research and that doesn't mean this is 100% true, oh God but I think they've discontinued this fragrance. And here's the funny thing you brought this back from Italy. You got this sample set it's the official Reneer sample set from Italy when you're there, yeah, and it has Kisses Rain Utaparform up in there, but it's not listed on their website anymore. They have Kisses Rain. It's like lip lobbyos, something rotolios or something. It's like a different version and it's that was released this year, in 2023.

Myke:

Hmm, so, and when you check the discovery set, on the website.

Ryan:

It's changed. Now it doesn't have this version of Kisses Rain in it, wow. In fact, I don't think it has either of the Kisses Rain in it. So that's kind of strange. And then I don't see anybody talking about it being discontinued on Fragrantica. But both of them are listed there. None of them are saying, hey, this is, like you know, replacing the other one or whatever, right? But I will say there is a website I think it's called like fragrancerevivalcom or something like that. They make fragrances that, like, have whatever been discontinued, and this was one of them that was listed on there. Wow, they moved really fast. Then that's what I was saying, because you just got this a few months back. Yeah, kind of strange, I mean. And the other part, that's strange about this, you know what? Let me kind of stop it. Let's get into price and trend and I'll talk a little more about some of the other stuff with it. Let's go into that random music.

Myke:

Todd.

Ryan:

Price 150 bucks if you wanted to get this. Trend was trending really good for this. Okay, for sure. The perfume where I think his name is, like Daniel Jose, I believe. Forgive me if I mess up your name. He's done a lot of the scents for Renear. This was the second most popular fragrance, I believe in all the stuff he's made and I want to say it may have been the most popular of the second popular on Renear's like list of stuff. Yeah, so I'm really curious if it is discontinued. If it was so popular, why did they?

Myke:

I don't know One, because just circling back to the price 150 bucks is not bad, not bad at all. If you were like a stronger niche fragrance, yeah.

Ryan:

I agree man the card start God is so good.

Myke:

The card stock does remind me of something. We've smelled the skin not so much, but the card stock. I can't put my finger on what we've smelled that smells like this, the smell that smells smelly, yeah.

Ryan:

It's like the what's on the card stock is a little. It's still sweet, spicy, whatever, but there's like this I don't want to say sour tinge. It's not necessarily sour, but it's like vintage or just opened up a box.

Myke:

But it's not bad. It's not bad. It's like it adds intrigue to it. Exactly, it's a little bit smoother, a little bit sweeter, a little bit spicier.

Ryan:

It smells really good. I can't believe how hard this thing trends, how popular it is. I'm thinking this thing's discontinued. That is kind of scary, isn't that weird.

Myke:

That means no one's safe Nobody. This may also be the fragrance that the fragrance apprentice made a video on. It's one of his more popular videos. I don't know if we've ever watched it, but that's like the lure in the community. That this is George's best work is his kisses rain video.

Ryan:

I think so Really, like he did something special or just it was just a popular video for him. I'm not sure.

Myke:

I've just heard there's been whispers in the back of the class.

Ryan:

Okay, I'm going to look it up real quick. Let me just. Can I look it up? Is that okay? Yeah, kisses rain, fragrance apprentice. Kisses rain. Five years ago he posted that the best release of 2017. We got 8.3 thousand views. Hmm, I thought it was his most popular. Maybe it's because of the work he did on, I see the open is a little better. He's like all this fall. I don't believe stuff. Wait, what the fuck? Wow, that was like an aha music video, dude. Hey, george Holler, at us too, were you on some fucking yeah Well, that shit back then. That's a wild looking video.

Myke:

Maybe that's a.

Ryan:

DMT trip. Well, look at that later and we'll give you feedback on the whole video. But so strange that this is so popular, so strange that it's probably discontinued, and at an affordable price I really think it was 150 bucks.

Myke:

Yeah, like I said, there's been multiple times, I picked the bottle up, going like I could buy this. I'm so wealthy I could buy this right now if I wanted to. I'm not sure why I didn't.

Ryan:

Yeah, and when I went to the sit rooms website, this is not listed on there anymore. What in the hell is going on? And you held it. I've seen you holding this bottle, yeah, and never remember you go. Man, I'm thinking about buying this. I was like, hey, it smells good because we did smell there. Now again, when we smell stuff there, there's so much going on we don't know what we're smelling.

Myke:

Sometime but I remember it. I remember doing it. I can close my eyes and take myself back. I just shaved my head. I look kind of like Gollum, from floor to the rings, and I was, like I was holding it in my hand, thinking like, am I going to buy this thing? I didn't end up doing it, though. It smells amazing though.

Ryan:

We know whether it's here or gone tomorrow. Who is the gentleman or gentle woman that would be wearing a fragrance such as this? I know the one. Hit us with it.

Myke:

He's wearing a floofy pirate shirt and a nekarchiff and perhaps a crushed velvet burgundy coat. He's got his hair pulled back, he's sitting down with a glass of scotch and he's speaking in an English accent. His name is George.

Ryan:

the fragrance of Brinnis Thought you were like describing somebody on, like a break between, like a one-act player.

Myke:

He's got stage makeup on. He's found some spot in between props and.

Ryan:

It is kind of distinguished, right? Yeah, I believe it. I think it's kind of distinguished. I feel like a gentleman such as Georgie yes, george.

Myke:

Atkinson.

Ryan:

Probably would wear this. Yeah, I can see that, dude. The card is incredible. The card is my favorite part. The skin I'm kind of like eh, because you know how I am with gourmand-y stuff, but the card stock does not smell gourmand, it smells great yeah.

Myke:

Skin is just very like it's softer now. It's sweet and spicy. I think the thing that stopped me from buying it in the store was spraying it on the skin and wearing it around and smelling it. And as it dries down on the skin it does kind of lose that bite you were talking about. You know it kind of has this bite on the card. That is really lovely. I do enjoy it, but on the skin it's a little bit smoother. Wouldn't be a problem for me, because I don't spray a lot of fragrance on my skin. Now. I've just kind of, you know, concentrate on my clothing.

Ryan:

But you know it's a little off-subject. I know it Fragrance. I'm shocked. You haven't bought yet. I really am shocked. Tell me the chronic.

Myke:

Oh my God, I will buy that, I will 100% buy that.

Ryan:

You had a what was a little. Was it a tester thing of it here? Yeah, steve sent it to us. Okay, so the one that Steve sent for us to do the episode with which we both love the fragrance.

Myke:

Yeah, he sent us probably two and a half mil maybe.

Ryan:

Man Mike would seriously almost every day would do a little on a card stock and he'd be like, uh, belissimo.

Myke:

Yeah, exactly, I would smell it every single day. And then it ran out, and then he would just be like yeah, just smelling the atomizer, and it probably stayed on the card stock for a couple of months after that.

Ryan:

For me that fragrance smells like sweet money and I love that fragrance. I'm shocked neither of us have bought in that fragrance.

Myke:

Yeah, the funny thing is I bring it up because you said you've held this Fire in. Parfums makes one called Moola Moola and this is the one that smells like sweet Moola.

Ryan:

That's supposed to smell like sweet money. No, I don't know what that smells like. Okay, because yeah, the current does smell like sweet money. To me it's great.

Ryan:

I don't know, why I love that smell, but let's don't get on the Byron Parfums train right now. Okay, yeah, I agree with who you think's wearing it. I think this is a great fragrance. I'm shocked still if this is in fact truly discontinued. If any of you guys know out there or know a reason why, or hell. Mr Rainier, if you know or want to tell us anything, let us know. We'd love to know what was going on this, because this really does smell great.

Myke:

Yeah, thecolombpodcastcom. You can shoot us an email there if you know the Deets. That's super secret info. But to boil it down really quickly, I know we're playing around with the George thing who's wearing it For real. Yeah, I think it is a cooler weather fragrance. If it's on the clothing it leans a little bit more masculine, but it is more of a well-to-do type smell of a fragrance. So you're going to be dressed up nice, it's going to be cool, and you're wanting to say come kiss me in the rain, skip it, hample it or spy it. So what are you going to do, sryan?

Ryan:

Well, swike, I definitely think this is a hard sample. Agreed, it's definitely a sample to see. If you want to buy this, good luck getting one. Yeah, but now I don't know if you can get a sample of it or not. I'm sure somebody has some left, but if you loved it and you wanted to buy it, I don't know what your answer is.

Myke:

I think you got to try the new one.

Ryan:

Yeah, and maybe we need to do a little bonus-y episode. Find that, get a little decant of it and smell that one. See how they compare. Yeah, it's kind of a shame.

Myke:

It really is good. It makes me regret not buying a bottle when I didn't buy a bottle.

Ryan:

But do you think you're thinking more that way just because now you know you can't have it? Yes, are we thinking like are we giving this too much credence now because we think we can't get it anymore?

Myke:

I think so.

Ryan:

If you could get it right now and it was literally available and you know there's a million of them would you really go get it?

Myke:

No, I wouldn't buy it, but I do believe it's a strong enough sample that I would want people to smell it. And I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it because I don't think it's amazing. I do think it's amazing. I am just not wearing a ton of fragrances like this, these days.

Ryan:

Well then, you made the right decision not to get it the first time.

Myke:

Well, I agree because I never make a mistake. But if I were to buy it, it's gone forever. No, I got it. Hmm, if I were to buy a fragrance like this, I still think, if I was looking for that sweet kind of spicy, I still think I'd lean towards the chronic.

Ryan:

We've talked about this. When you start doing it, we need to revisit some of our past episodes and see what they smell like again, because that one I just did not have any bad memories of oh, it's so good, it's so good, shockingly good. But again, we can't make this episode about something else. All right, guys, that is today's episode.

Myke:

Yeah, parfum parfum Boy, that was a wild one, Brian.

Ryan:

This is a good fragrance, guys. I would say, if you can't try to go find out a sample, let's wrap this up, ok, with a bow. We told you guys. Go head over to Patreon.

Myke:

Yeah, if you haven't, if you're not already subscribed, there are eight unreleased episodes waiting for you. So if you just want more of the Cologne podcast, we also have like some extra interviews there. Occasionally we will release episodes early, but again eight episodes If you haven't subbed yet. That you've never heard before.

Ryan:

Sometimes we give the options for the patrons to choose between two fragrances, to make set episodes. Yeah, we're about to do that again. Let's make that one, though, for everybody. I want the patrons to be in charge of choosing. Oh, but let's make that episode go live for everybody. Yes, sir, and then, and then also, we are giving away serene. We're also going to be giving away an imaginary authors bottle, so that's right After that, yeah, and an Alexandria fragrance bottle plus a sample of a discontinued Tom Ford.

Ryan:

That's all for six bucks a month. Hmm, that's literally less than a whopper.

Myke:

And a way better purchase, in my opinion. You don't get a heartburn after a few bonus episodes from the Cologne podcast.

Ryan:

All right, guys, we love you so much. Thank you for coming on this show and this journey with us. As always, we've been doing this for over two years. We fucking love you all. Yes, and until next time spray it up.

Myke:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
