AI-leen: I love how much the city crams into just one week. If you're new here, I'm your host, and joining me is my co-host. Today, we'll break down the juiciest city news and how you can get involved.

AI-den: Stick with us for the inside scoop on e-bike giveaways, a massive public art transformation, wildfire prevention tips, and how to make your voice heard in city decisions.

AI-leen: We'll also reveal how to safely ditch those illegal fireworks before July 4th, plus a service you might not know about that keeps your home safe while you're away.

Let's jump into this week's highlights.

AI-den: First up, it's bike month, and the city's all about making e-bikes less mysterious. Have you noticed how many more of them are whizzing around lately?

AI-leen: Absolutely. And there's still so much confusion about types, systems, and even where you're allowed to ride. That's why this Saturday, May 30th, District 56 is hosting a free e-bike class from 10:00 AM to noon.

AI-den: It's perfect for anyone curious about shopping for one, keeping it tuned, and of course, staying safe on the road. What's wild is Elk Grove residents who attend are entered to win a free e-bike.

AI-leen: That's a pretty sweet incentive. Even if you're just e-bike curious, it's worth registering details around the city website.

And if you win, major summer upgrade.

AI-den: Switching gears literally to art, Elk Grove's about to explode with color for its first ever mural festival, Paint the Grove, kicking off June 1st.

AI-leen: I've been waiting for something like this. It's cool that national mural stars from Talking Walls are teaming up with local talent to turn Main Street into a living gallery.

AI-den: And it's not just for spectating. Middle and high schoolers got the chance to join a mural workshop with Cameron Moberg, including hands-on spray painting. Even though signups are closed, it's awesome seeing youth get involved.

AI-leen: Plus, the artist battle on June 6 promises to be wild. Imagine voting for your favorite as artists go head-to-head right on the street.

For event times and artist profiles, check the city site or follow Paint the Grove on Instagram.

AI-den: Funny how art brings people together, and now the city wants your opinion on what makes Elk Grove a great place to live or what could make it better.

AI-leen: That's right. The 2026 community survey is open until June 1.

It's confidential, it genuinely impacts city planning, and it only takes a few minutes. I peeked at past results, and it's interesting to see what's changed since 2009.

AI-den: If you care about parks, safety, or just wanna vent about traffic, this is the moment And if you've got questions, Management Analyst Ash Kumar is your contact.

AI-leen: It's one of those rare times when a survey isn't just busy work. Your input shapes actual policy. The link's at elkgrove.gov right with the other weekly updates.

AI-den: Here's a quick personnel update. Rosemary Rivas is stepping in as Elk Grove's new Human Resources Director on June 1, after a nationwide search.

Always good to see experienced leadership coming in.

AI-leen: On the public safety side, fire season is creeping up. The Cosumnes Fire Department is urging everyone to clear dry leaves, weeds, and branches. Those wind-blown embers can travel farther than you think.

AI-den: And if you've got illegal fireworks, the ones that are way too tempting, around July 4th, there are two drop-off events: May 30 at Fire Station 71 and June 20 at City Hall.

No questions, no penalties, just drop them off safely.

AI-leen: That's a lifesaver, literally. The fines for using illegal fireworks can hit $10,000, so it's just not worth it. Check the city and fire department pages for more info, and if you see illegal fireworks, call the non-emergency number, not 911.

AI-den: One more service I wish more people knew.

If you're heading out of town, the volunteers in police service will do free vacation checks. They'll visit your house, pick up packages, and look for anything suspicious.

AI-leen: That's so reassuring, especially with travel season coming up. You can sign up online through the city's website, just like for job alerts or those weekly email updates we mentioned at the top.

AI-den: Honestly, it's worth hopping over to elkgrove.gov and signing up for the Monday emails. You'll never miss a big event or city service again. Let's wrap up with three takeaways. First, don't miss out on all things e-bike. Attend the free class and maybe win a ride. Second, check out Paint the Grove for public art and community vibes.

Third, there are real steps you can take now to protect your home and avoid fireworks trouble.

AI-leen: To make the most of city life, your action step is simple. Head to elkgrove.gov, sign up for those weekly Monday emails, and get involved in at least one new thing you heard about today.

AI-den: Thanks for joining us.

We'll keep bringing you the local stories and events you can use, so stay tuned and see you next week.

AI-leen: And if you have questions or ideas, reach out anytime. Until next Monday, stay safe and enjoy Elk Grove.
