Now, without further ado, let me turn it over to our AI friends for a deeper dive into this week's topics

AI-den: Elk Grove is turning 26 this July, but it's not just cake and candles. There's a lot happening in the city, and we're about to run through it all.

AI-leen: That's right. And before we dive in, quick reminder, you can get all these updates straight to your inbox every Monday. Just sign up at elkgrove.gov so you never miss a thing.

AI-den: On today's episode, we'll talk about Elk Grove's Key to the City recipients, this weekend's massive 4th of July celebration, some smart tips for pet safety, and even catch a sneak peek at the Laguna Boulevard construction project.

AI-leen: Plus, we'll share how to join the Run For Hunger and why you might wanna catch a movie at the Aquatic Center. Ready to plan your summer? Let's kick it off with the city's birthday and some truly remarkable honorees.

AI-den: Elk Grove's Key to the City program, started back in 2014, is such a unique tradition. Have you seen the lineup of honorees this year?

AI-leen: 12 centenarians, people 100 or older That's incredible. And this year, a country music celebrity joins them too. It's inspiring to see the city recognize both everyday heroes and big names.

AI-den: What stands out for me is how the program honors residents who've served in the military or performed heroic acts too, not just age milestones.

AI-leen: Exactly. It really highlights the diversity of achievements in our community. And if you're curious, you can read about all the recipients at elkgrove.gov/key.

Celebrating another year of cityhood feels even more special with so many amazing stories to share.

AI-den: Switching gears, Independence Day is shaping up to be a huge event this year. Between the live concert, drone show, and fireworks, Elk Grove Park is gonna be packed.

AI-leen: And the festivities aren't just about the show.

There's food, vendors, and Pop Fiction playing live. But heads up, leave the alcohol, personal fireworks, and pets at home. Only service animals are allowed in.

AI-den: Parking's $15, but if you wanna save some hassle, the city's offering free shuttle service from SacRT. It really helps with the crowds and parking limits after 3:00 PM.

AI-leen: Totally agree. If you want the full rundown on event times, like when the vendors open or when those fireworks start, check out the city's website. It's your cheat sheet for a smooth night.

AI-den: All that celebration is awesome, but July 4th can be really stressful for pets. Fireworks send even chill animals into a frenzy.

AI-leen: Lost pets spike this time of year. One of the best things you can do is get your pet microchipped, and Elk Grove Animal Shelter is offering free clinics this week. Just make sure to book ahead.

AI-den: And if you're wondering where to go, it's at 9150 Union Park Way. Register online through the city's site to snag an appointment before the holiday rush.

AI-leen: Taking that small step could be the reason your furry friend makes it home if the worst happens. Seriously, don't put it off. Those clinics fill up fast.

AI-den: Speaking of fireworks, there's a serious side. Illegal ones can get you a hefty fine, up to $10,000. That could turn a fun night into a financial disaster pretty fast.

AI-leen: Even if you're just renting, you're still on the hook if fireworks go off on your property If you spot illegal fireworks, call the EGPD's non-emergency number unless it's an actual emergency.

AI-den: Switching to something more uplifting, if you want a great start to your Independence Day, check out the Run for Hunger. There's something for everyone: 5K, 10K, and a kids' run.

AI-leen: Every runner supports the Elk Grove Food Bank, so it's more than just exercise, it's helping families facing food insecurity. All the details are on the food bank's website if you're ready to lace up.

AI-den: You know, if you've been driving Laguna Boulevard lately, you've probably noticed the construction. It's hard to miss, but there's some real innovation happening.

AI-leen: They're using cold-in-place recycling to rebuild the road, which means old asphalt gets reused right on site. It's better for the environment and should make that drive a lot smoother when it's done.

AI-den: Most of the work is happening at night to minimize traffic headaches, so expect lane shifts and slower speeds for a while longer.

AI-leen: On a more relaxing note, the Elk Grove Aquatic Center is hosting a dive-in movie on July 11. Watch Frozen while you float or chill poolside. How perfect is that for a summer evening?

AI-den: Let's wrap with a quick recap. First, Elk Grove City birthday and the inspiring Key to the City honorees show what a diverse and special community we have.

AI-leen: Second, whether you're joining the July 4th bash or watching a movie at the pool, there's no shortage of ways to celebrate. Just remember to plan ahead for pets and parking.

AI-den: And third, the Laguna Boulevard upgrades and Run for Hunger both highlight how the city is investing in its people, whether that's infrastructure or helping those in need.
