AI-den: Exactly. It's held twice a year, and you commit to weekly sessions.

This isn't just a lecture, it's interactive. I've heard people leave feeling genuinely empowered. 

AI-leen: If you're interested, check the city's website soon. That actually reminds me, while government is serious business, Elk Grove knows how to have fun, too. Should we talk about Christmas in July? 

AI-den: Who says holiday cheer has to wait for December?

This Friday, District56 transforms into a pop-up winter wonderland, complete with ice skating, even though it's July. 

AI-leen: It's a free event, no registration needed. Skates are provided, so just bring your socks and some holiday spirit. There'll be a live DJ spinning summer-themed festive tracks, and waivers are signed on-site.

Younger guests need a parent's signature. 

AI-den: Events like this make the city feel connected. It's perfect for friends and families who wanna make memories, and honestly, skating in July sounds like a blast. 

AI-leen: Funny you mention memorable moments, because the city just installed a landmark sculpture that's turning heads. Let's dig into that next. 

AI-den: The new sculpture outside the Elk Grove Library is called Radiant Eddy, honoring Harriet Eddy, the librarian who helped establish California's county library system. It's a dynamic arrangement of 32 streetlights designed by Aaron T. Stephan. 

AI-leen: The way those streetlights sweep and curve feels almost like a dance.

It's meant to represent community, growth, and civic life, all themes Harriet Eddy championed. Stephan's work is nationally recognized, so it's a big deal for Elk Grove.

AI-den: Pitch Elk Grove is in its fifth year, and the startup scene is thriving. This year's competition saw 109 applications, with 17 semi-finalists advancing to a virtual pitch-off. Winners receive cash prizes, and it's all about innovation. 

AI-leen: What stands out is the diversity. From biotech and AI to apps for communication and senior care, these startups address real community needs. And there's a special prize for Elk Grove-based companies, which boosts local talent. 

AI-den: The finals are September 3rd at District56, and the excitement is building. It's a showcase for ideas that could shape the future of our region. 

AI-leen: Speaking of shaping the community, let's pivot to some practical summer advice, namely dealing with those unwanted pests that love warm weather. 

AI-den: Summer brings more than sunshine. It can mean cockroaches and other pests seeking water and shelter. The Sacramento Area Sewer District is working hard to keep sewers clear, but homeowners play a role too. 

AI-leen: You can help by sealing cracks, removing food and water sources, and keeping your home less inviting to pests. There's solid info at sacsewer.com/cockroaches if you want specifics. 

AI-den: On a brighter note, July marks America's 250th anniversary, and Elk Grove Animal Shelter is celebrating with discounted pet adoptions. Fees are just $25 this month, and you can view adoptable animals online or visit in person.
