Hi there and welcome the Voices of Greater Yellowstone podcast, created and supported by the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, also known as GYC. I’m your host, Kristin Kuhn. I’m a cat-mom, avid backpacker, and communications coordinator at GYC. Behind the audio is Emmy Reed, digital communications associate, wildlife aficionado, and amateur rockhound.
We are so excited to start this podcast and highlight the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and the people who love it so much. What is the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, you may ask? Well, you’ve probably heard of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, right? So iconic. The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is one of the last nearly intact temperate ecosystems on Earth, meaning it has most of its original wildlife and plant species and contains mostly undisturbed habitat. It sits on the borders between Montana, Wyoming, Idaho with Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks at its core. The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem spans across over 20 million acres, roughly the size of South Carolina, and is home to rugged mountain peaks, sage-brush valleys, and alpine streams. Grizzly bears, bison, elk, moose, wolves, black bears, and many, many more species call this remarkable landscape home. In short, it’s amazing. If you’ve been lucky enough to live or travel here, you know just how special it is and why it needs to be protected for years to come.
So, come join us on this podcast journey to hear the stories of those who love and protect this wild place. Each episode, we’ll chat with someone awesome, whether it’s a biologist, artist, advocate, photographer, conservationist, or someone on staff at the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and you’ll learn more about the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and what you can do to help keep it remarkable.
If this sounds like something you’d like to listen to on a fairly regular basis, please subscribe to Voices of Greater Yellowstone on whatever platform you use to listen to podcasts and that way you’ll stay up-to-date with new episodes.
